Info Wanted: Can anything possibly be improved in ESB?

Wow, I remember being a cringey youngster around here, and now there’s people younger than TPM making intelligent points!

EDIT: I joined as a 13-year-old in 2003.

I’m one year older than you, but your account is one year older than mine. Huh.

(Not sure why I thought that was interesting or worth mentioning. Slow night at work I guess.)

The 'next Movie you have seen' thread...
Time

Blade Runner 2049.

I get off work at 6am, going to see it at 11am, then have to be back at work at 6pm.

I might sleep somewhere in there, but there’s no way in hell I’m missing the sequel to one of my favorite movies on opening weekend when it was made by one of my favorite contemporary directors and has been getting reviewed so well.

And to think when it was announced I was sure it would be awful and I’d just wait for it to come out on Blu-Ray…

Ranking the Batman films
Time
 1. Batman Begins
 2. The Dark Knight
 3. Mask of the Phantasm
 4. Batman 1989
 5. Under the Red Hood
 6. Year One
 7. The Dark Knight Rises
 8. The Dark Knight Returns
 9. Batman Returns
 10. Batman v Superman (Ultimate Cut)
 11. Batman (1966)
 12. Batman Forever
 13. Batman & Robin
 14. The Killing Joke (last place due to the abomination that was the first 30 minutes)

I really need to check out the fan edit of TKJ that conforms the movie to the graphic novel. It would certainly be higher in my list than the official version.

I tried it. It was neat, but ultimately it was more suspenseful and atmospheric without it.

There is a lot more to it than just putting the music in… you also have to put the shots in the correct order and / or add the missing shots to get the proper cues.

I dunno man, the duel music syncs almost 100% perfectly with the editing, down to the scene changes. I’m pretty sure it was pulled out of the sound mix at the last minute and as such there aren’t any editing changes necessary.

I don’t think the same can be said for many other cut music cues from ESB, though - the probe droid music definitely feels off with what’s happening on screen. But the duel music doesn’t at all.

Is the 97 really that red right there?
Jeez. And here we thought the Blu Ray colors were bad. Even the sky is red!

All the home video transfers of the 97 look like garbage color-wise, but supposedly the prints looked great.

No, they don’t. They look like GARBAGE. Adawyn’s looks amazing in comparison. Trust me, I sat through the grossness of the fake(SE) versions of the Star Wars, ESB and ROTJ. They ALL sucked.

Well, I was 8 when I saw the SE in theaters (7 for ANH - ESB was my birthday present), so I couldn’t tell you how they looked, but supposedly the prints were timed to Lucas’ private Technicolor archival prints (at least for ANH) and by all the accounts I’ve heard, the colors were great.

Ha!

I agree that is quite funny. It’s actually the same way I feel for a lot of Amnesiac and Kid A. There were some points when Radiohead got a little too “experimental” for my tastes.

Yeah, pretty much how I feel about those two albums, though Motion Picture Soundtrack was worth all the other weirdness. (Not that it isn’t a weird one in its own right, of course.)

Info: Films re-released with alterations

You replied to a post specifically talking about the differences between the 2003 and 2010 versions of the Alien DC and the fact that there is no comparison for those two versions on that website with a post that basically said “BUT THIS WEBSITE!!!” You even quoted said post in your reply.

The site is a great resource, but not useful for comparing the two things that the post you quoted was specifically talking about comparing.

ROTJ "Pre-film Training" Edit (* unfinished project* - lots of info)
Time

Yeah, definitely. He’d need to be recolored or erased.

I also think this would flow better with the scene of Leia turning in Chewie, even though I agree with a lot of what has been said about the scene itself. Though I do kind of like the idea of revealing Jabba for the first time when Han is unfrozen. I’m just not sure how well the pacing works at the moment.

What did you think of my half-assed approach to “fixing” the rebel briefing scene? I think it could work pretty well with a little more polish. It cuts out pretty much all of the cheesy shit if nothing else.
