I guess I just don’t get why Obi-Wan needs to make an appearance at all. If he was going to show up in any capacity it should have been the tree scene with Yoda.
That gave me an idea.
What if Rey simply doesn’t answer the “Rey who?” question? As in, the question is still asked of her, but instead of saying “Rey Skywalker,” she just takes a beat to consider it, then smiles, we get the binary sunset, and the movie ends. Or she answers with, “Just Rey.”
The reasoning being, it highlights that she’s free to decide who she wants to be from now on. She doesn’t have to be beholden to either her family (Palpatine, or if it’s a Rey Nobody edit, her parents who did nothing with their lives) or her “adoptive” family (Luke/Leia/Han) - she’s just Rey, and she gets to decide what that means for herself.
I think this does a good job of wrapping up her arc, since throughout the trilogy she’s been looking for meaning through others (her family, then Finn, then Han, then Luke, then Kylo, etc), but now she’s accepted that she can create her own meaning. Leaving Luke and Leia’s sabers at Luke’s childhood home and moving forward with one of her own creation (with a symbolic new color) also accentuates this.
What do you guys think?
I think it would feel out of place for pretty much zero benefit beyond fan service.
But I’m willing to eat my words if a proof of concept of the idea works.
Any chance of adding a faint “let go” from obi-wan as Luke becomes one with the force?
Seems unnecessary, and like it might distract from the emotional core of the scene.
Poppa, love the new particle effects in the shuttle scene! Really helps to sell it and make it feel seamless.
They didn’t, though. The Doctor mysteriously showed up at a dimensional rift, nobody knows where they came from before that.
I don’t have major problems with the lore changes, though they’re not great, but that episode was literally just the Doctor being monologued at for an hour. Terrible.
And I was just about to actually sit down and download V4 after clearing a bunch of hard drive space - guess it’s a good thing I came here before I ate up too much of my monthly bandwidth!
Some of the non-Palpatine related things could potentially be used to update the V2 if there’s interest, but my priority first is to get out the V3 with the Palp teases.
I’m down with that idea, but that makes it even more necessary to come up with some way to communicate to the audience at the end that Palps is 100% for realsies dead this time, you guys - otherwise it’s just, “Well, we saw all his clone bodies earlier, clearly he’s just gonna get cloned again.”
I actually used to use DVD commentaries the same way once upon a time. Now I use history podcasts instead.
You know, I didn’t even think about the planet/starfield being fixed to the window frame, but after seeing your fix, that’s 100% what was bugging me about that shot without even realizing that was it!

I do think some more window reflection/enhancement would be welcome if it’s possible, but it’s not massively distracting as is IMO.
Please keep the Finn/Rose shuttle scene. The pacing doesn’t work with that and the Phasma fight gone.
Since you removed Luke referring to Jakku as “pretty much nowhere”, are you going remove the “…from nowhere?” part from his “Why are you here, Rey from nowhere?” line?

It’s because the v1.0 DNR version is basically an entirely different “fork” from the v1.0 No-DNR version with an entirely different base color grading, so any color corrections which are done to one of them can’t be applied to the other.
If Williarob pops in here, he can explain better than I, since he’s the one who did v1.0 DNR in the first place.
There is a new version in the works which uses DrDre’s new reel-by-reel color grading that should finally give us a new DNR version and bring DNR and no-DNR into parity so future updates to one can be applied to the other, like 4K83.

I think NJVC had to force it to go through warning and all, and then somehow remux the untouched .264 stream from the MKV into the BDMV folder, replacing the one Encore transcoded. I don’t know what he used to do this, maybe MultiAVCHD?
Yep, tsmuxer. Also, there’s a whole technical help section of the forum. I try to pop in there and help where I can whenever I remember to check it.
Yes, I rip the BR then find the .m2ts file that contains the movie in the STREAM folder, then use tsmuxer to demux that into its .264 and .ac3/.dts streams. I then import the .264 file directly into my Premiere project; what I do with the audio varies greatly depending on the project/source format.
VC1 isn’t too popular anymore as far as I can tell. Nothing I’ve attempted to work with has started out as VC1, at any rate.
