But all of that is still kept with what I propose…

Maybe I’ve been wording it wrong, but I’m not proposing that the crawl ends and Kylo is already on Exegol, I’m saying the crawl ends and you pan down to see Kylo using the Wayfinder (already in his possession) to navigate to Exegol. You’d just be excising the parts actually on Mustafar.

I don’t think you need to replace it with anything because it serves no purpose once you replace “Palpatine lives” with “Kylo found a thing” in the crawl.

I also really just don’t like the sequence as it currently exists in the film (which is unfixable without the deleted footage), and I feel it contributes immensely to the hectic feeling of the first act. Jumping to too many locations right off the rip is just so whiplash-y. Cutting one of those locations out would be a huge benefit IMO.

Exactly. Just end the crawl with something like:

Supreme Leader KYLO REN, led by a Sith artifact hidden away by Snoke, races deep into the Unknown Regions of the galaxy in search of his former master’s secrets…

And then pan down to Kylo in his TIE following the wayfinder to Exegol.

Of course, you’d also remove any mention of Palpatine in the rest of the crawl and have our first inkling of him be when Kylo actually meets him on Exegol.

Wowee, 17 years…

We’ve certainly come a long way. Anyone else remember passing around LaserDisc rips on physical DVDs through the mail?

Yeah, I do. Some of you guys might still have my parents’ address from when I was too young to drive but still sent around Dr. Gonzo, TR47 and EditDroid DVD+R copies all over the country with zero regard for my family’s privacy…

Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga 4k UHD -- 27 DISC Boxed Set -- 3/31/2020
Time

Yeah, there really hasn’t been any talk of ohteedee’s D+77/80/83 outside of the 4K77 forums. That is likely to change once the box set comes out and he updates them with rips of the actual 4K discs rather than using streaming rips.

It should also be noted that the project is explicitly NOT a purist reconstruction - plenty of 1997 recomposited effects are left in purposefully, but IIRC anything that was newly created in 1997 or later is replaced. It’s just the redone wipes and effects that were recomposited from original elements or otherwise cleaned up that ohteedee left in.

At some point the farm boy from Tatooine needs to grow up and make his own wise decisions. And finally he did—-when he projected himself across the galaxy, sacrificing his life. Having Ben or Yoda or whoever pipe up and guide him at that point would undercut his final arc.

I think it’s worth a try, if it’s executed well it would be a nice addition.

I don’t see any way it could be executed that wouldn’t feel like it’s out of left field and entirely unnecessary. But again, I’m willing to keep an open mind about it if someone gives it a try and it works. I just don’t see how it could.

I guess I disagree that they “should have” made an appearance at all. That would have been pure fan service. If there was a place in the story for either of them, then sure. But there wasn’t, so trying to force an appearance where it isn’t organic is just going to be…well, forced, and unnecessary. That would have been true if Johnson had decided to toss Obi-Wan in there just because he felt obligated (see: Leonard Nimoy in Star Trek: Into Darkness) and it will be doubly true for any fan edit trying to jam him in there just because the editor thinks he needs to go somewhere.
