FYI, the “first cut” would be the assembly cut, which is an assembly of every scene and line in the script, which may even include repeated shots from different angles/takes. There’s no polish whatsoever to an assembly cut, it’s just everything thrown into a timeline and put in script order.

My guess is the first “polished” cut was around 2h45m or so. That would probably still include every scene in the script, but in an edited, watchable form, rather than as a rough assembly.

I miss being a pizza delivery guy. I liked that job.

I might have to try my hand at applying some of these techniques to the first 4 volumes of Futurama as well. I got decent results from Handbrake’s decomb filter when making a 23.976fps encode, but there are still issues here and there in each episode.

Well, video quality would be the same since you’re not reencoding, and assuming you already have the MKV itself, it would be significantly faster to download. You’d just lose out on the extra stuff included in the BD50 version.

Of course, you’d have to make sure you remux the MKV to include the same audio and sub tracks that are on the BD25 version before you patch it in, otherwise you’ll probably run over on file size and the menus won’t point to the same tracks.

I think the question is, could the files for the 25GB version be posted with the video m2ts stream removed so people could download that and use the multiAVCHD method to patch in the MKV video. That way they can make the 25GB discs from the MKVs they already have without having to essentially re-download the entire video/audio portion.

Of course, if the video was compressed for the 25GB version, that won’t work, but if the video is untouched from the MKV, it should, right?

Yeah, I always thought the main reason most of us were here was because we can’t get the unaltered original trilogy in acceptable quality through official channels.

But hey, what do I know, I only joined the site 13 years ago, I’m still learning the ropes. 😉

Okay, so here’s where I’m at now:

Nothing’s worked, and I’ve wasted a bunch of cash using paid versions of some of this software in the hope that the Hulu recording functionality was behind a paywall, to no avail.

Software I’ve tried that has not worked:

1. KeepVid
2. Freemake Video Downloader
3. RTMPDumpHelper
4. GetFLV

At this point I’m unfortunately thinking I might have to use a screen recording program (which I really didn’t want to use as it’s going to reencode, might not capture the correct framerate so ghosting is a risk, and won’t grab the highest resolution) to do this, which would mean I’d definitely be using the 1080p iTunes copies for movies 1 and 2 and Blu-Ray rips for movies 3 and 4 as a base, only using Hulu video and audio when absolutely necessary.

If anyone has any ideas for programs to download the video stream itself directly from Hulu (GetFLV almost got me there, but I ended up with a bunch of useless empty “video files”) instead of recording the screen, please, I’m all ears!

Aliens has some serious revisionist color timing going on.

Alien looks a little different from the earlier home video versions some grew used to, but it’s not obviously wrong the way Aliens clearly is. It’s entirely possible that it’s actually very close to what it would have looked like in 1979.

I do have a copy that was color-matched to a 90’s Laserdisc that I quite like the look of, but IMO there’s nothing actually wrong with the BR color timing for Alien.

I learned long ago to give money, not lend it. If I get paid back, it’s a nice bonus. But if not, well, I never expected to get it back anyway.

Or just don’t give people money at all, which is where I’m at right now.

As Leela used to say “if you are wounded, find a man with scars” so keep the thread going because there seems to be a lot of need for it at the moment. And we can all help each other by breaking down stigma.

Sounds like you’re taking some positive steps. That’s great to hear. It’s scary as hell, of course, but the right way forward often is.

And agreed, big thanks to Ender for creating this space for us. It’s been very helpful to me since I’ve come back, even though it probably doesn’t seem that way.

I know you’re not. But the real answer is probably “get better friends,” but I don’t have the emotional capacity right now to weed through the 98% that are self-absorbed leeches to find someone from the 2% of decent human beings to befriend.

None of my friends talk to me anymore unless they need something from me. They’re also never there for me when I need them, and dodge my attempts to simply hang out 9 times out of 10.

It’s been like this for a few months, but I was giving them the benefit of the doubt until the two biggest culprits pulled some bullshit this morning that absolutely infuriated me. Straw that broke the camel’s back and all that.

Going back into hermit mode for a while. I can’t fucking deal with people anymore. I tried convincing myself that I was better off with other people, but I think I was right before - I don’t need anyone but myself because everyone else is a black hole of dysfunction and neediness without an empathetic bone in their body.

(This is not me saying I’m leaving the forum, mind you. This is all about shutting myself away from in-person relationships. I just needed to vent after thinking about this all day.)

That’s the hope, but there’s no guarantee. It’s close to being done though from what I gather.

Shit, that’s a thing? I’ve just been throwing them out. I make my own rips for my hard drive media player, that way I can control the quality to my liking and keep commentaries and the like.

Though really, I rarely use the physical disc after I make my copy, since my media player does almost everything I want it to (1080p24, DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD passthrough and decoding, among other things), and it’s just more convenient than getting up and picking out a disc.

They look nice on my bookshelf though, so I rarely get rid of the discs once I make my own digital copy.

For those of you who have a username that’s not particularly pronounceable - like yhwx - how do you say it/hear it in your head? For example, yhwx, when I see your username, I read it as “Why-wicks.”

Same goes for those of you with long or compound usernames. Do you use a chunk of it, like I do for my own username (“Ash”)? Do you initial-ize it, like I do with moviefreakedmind (“MFM”)?

Or is it just your online handle and you don’t think about it at all beyond using it to log in?

Always wondered this about other forum users (here and elsewhere), but MDOYS (or Mark’s? Syntax? Mark’s Down?) ending her post with “Silly yhwx” brought it to the forefront of my mind just now.

Doubtful anyone outside of the hard core EU SW fan would even know what they were, even after their cartoon spin off appearence. And, without adding a line to explain what they were, they would be a pointless addition, especially when you take into account that Ackbar wants to retreat but Lando convinces him to move the ships in closer to the destroyers. If they had Interdictors there then Ackbar would have known that they couldn’t really retreat. Take away their option of retreating by adding those , then it takes away the whole heroic “stay and fight” angle

Actually it is supposed to be the same. If it isn’t, or you’re having trouble, send a PM to Q2.

I fixed it, so it’s all good now. Not sure what happened exactly - think when I came back to the forums earlier this year I did a password reset on FE since I forgot my old one, but didn’t realize that IFDb was a separate account, so never did it for that.
