TFA: A Gentle Restructure (Released)
Time

So I ripped my TPM Blu-Ray, converted the audio to mono WAVs, then downloaded your PCM track and did the same, and threw the center channel of both into Audacity to swap out the opening theme and…

…they’re not in sync. Which I was very much not expecting - I figured all crawls were probably the same length and the music the same tempo and such, so it would be an easy swap. Turns out that’s not the case.

So I don’t have any kind of an ETA on my “fixed” audio track with a less-shitty-sounding opening theme, unfortunately. That’s going to require more fucking around than I expected.

Also, I will leave the link up for now, and if a mod asks me to remove it I’ll edit the post and start using PMs instead.

…yeah, that’s a bad idea around here. Delete the link.

I would also argue that it falls under preservation, as it is an original unaltered scene that was shot alongside the rest of the film.

It’s adding something from one official released version of a film to a different official version of a film. It’s a fan edit, not a preservation.

I would agree if the scene was loaded with CGI “improvements”, but as far as I can tell it’s exactly the same as it was back in 1977. My color corrections and sequencing revert the scene back to what it probably looked like when it was still included in early edits of the film during the post production process. Deleted scenes deserve to be preserved as well, because at worst they provide insight into the production of the film, and at best they contain something vital to the plot that should never have been removed to begin with (compare Blade Runner: The Final Cut to the original theatrical cut for an example of this).

If you took the scene on its own and restored the part that was cut from it (Red Leader talking about Luke’s father), and released that as its own thing, not incorporated into the film as a whole, that would be a preservation.

Not trying to be a jerk, this is a good idea and something I’m sure a lot of people will be interested in, but it’s definitely not a preservation.

And links, or links to links, are definitely against forum rules. Leaving it up risks a ban (temp or permanent).

Yeah, I don’t think linking to another site that contains a link to download the whole thing is kosher here either. Let people who are interested in your version PM you for a link instead. And you might also want to consider creating your own thread for your version, too (in the fan edits section, since adding that scene disqualifies it from being a preservation).

Neat idea though - I don’t think that scene really works without the Tatooine Biggs scenes, but it’s probably the one change made to ANH that I’m close to being okay with.

kk650's Regraded Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace Regrained Edition V3 (blanket green tint removed from blu-ray) (Released)
Time

He’s said that he’s releasing small files first, and if enough people are interested in those, he’ll then release full-size versions.

Which I think is a mistake, since many (like myself) won’t download a small bitrate version, instead opting to wait for a full-size copy, which might make it seem like there’s less interest than there actually is. But that’s the way kk650 has chosen to go about it.
