Blu-Ray and other HD box size STAR WARS covers
Time

Oh, and by request I’ve made an alternate set for ANH where the front/back art is swapped. All three alternate versions can be found here.

I’m considering doing one more variation on ANH with the “theatrical logo” spine that says “A NEW HOPE” instead of “STAR WARS,” but I want to find a better ANH “official logo” than what I’ve come up with before I do that. If anyone has any suggestions for ANH logos that will work well on the front and spine, let me know. Same goes for any alternate logos, especially TFA, TLJ, ANH, Rogue One, and the prequels.

Thanks!

The whole point of these, though, is that simplicity/universality so you can really put whatever disc of that movie you want in the case, so the lack of any description on the back is intentional.

But if you (or anyone else) would like to add some description or special features or anything themselves, by all means! These are already tweaks to existing covers, I feel no ownership over them. If someone wants to use them as a starting point, go for it!

I enjoyed it overall. Don’t like how the First Doctor was treated as a character but Bradley knocked it out of the park with what he was given. Capaldi was excellent, and really given a chance to showcase his Doctor as it was more of a character piece.

I really enjoyed the way the regeneration sequence was shot - we don’t see Whittaker’s face until the newly-regenerated Doctor sees it herself for the first time. The scene from there on out was very similar to Matt Smith’s first scene and the opening of The Eleventh Hour.

She did just fine. I like the vibe she seems to be going for, but it’s like 25-30 seconds tops, so there’s still a lot of ways they can go with her. You really can’t judge based on the outgoing Doctor’s regeneration scene, you have to wait for their first full appearance to get any kind of handle on the performance.

I was really happy that she seemed to have a sense of wonder about her in the scene that has been in short supply during the Capaldi years (though it wasn’t entirely absent).

I feel like a lot of people’s problems with both TFA and TLJ (not all, mind you, both films are far from flawless) - and even the PT to a degree - stemmed from their expectations for how they should be instead of being open to things going down a unique path.

So know that I’m fully aware that I’m setting myself up for major disappointment two years from now when I say this:

Not at least addressing the Knights of Ren in Episode IX would be a massive mistake.

4K restoration on Star Wars

It’s well known within industry circles that the plan was to release the OT’s theatrical versions in new 4K transfers prior to ‘The Force Awakens’ but the 1977 film needed a lot more work than initially thought - Disney even went so far as to ask the Library of Congress for a scan of the print they’ve had in their archives since 1978 - and so it was put back until the 40th anniversary in 2017… But we haven’t seen them yet so maybe 2018 to coincide with either Solo: A Star Wars Story or may come after the 4k release of TLJ cause that would kick ass

Um…“well known?” Sounds like a lot of unsubstantiated rumor and wishful thinking to me.

she didn’t look like an old lady Leia that I would have wanted to see.

And I’m sure you won’t look like an old man that anybody wants to see.
Attacking someone because of their looks is beyond low. Stop.

Agreed.

I’d also like to say that while I had my misgivings about her performance in TFA and I still have my misgivings about TLJ as a whole, Carrie knocked it out of the fucking park in TLJ. She seemed comfortable in her role in a way she hadn’t in TFA and, Space Superwoman Leia aside, she was consistently one of the very best parts of the movie.

It’ll be interesting to see members’ views after Episode IX is released and we’ve all had time to take in the Sequel Trilogy as a whole.

As of right now, a lot of the differing and passionate opinions on here and throughout the various threads… may well change upon completion and reflection of seeing everything in the ST tied together - as a trilogy in itself, and as part of the whole saga overall.

Two down, one to go… 😃

That’s an interesting question indeed. Aside from the ST, I think it’s also interesting to consider how the ST will connect to the rest of the saga. It is meant to be part of a nine part saga afterall. I’m a bit skeptical, but TLJ does make it impossible for Abrams to create ROTJ 2.0, so it may turn out to be the greatest setup in the history of Star Wars.

For a while, we were told that Johnson would also be writing and directing Episode 9. But recently we learned that instead, JJ was coming back for 9. Does anyone know what happened there? I’m wondering if Lucasfilm decided they didn’t like the direction that Johnson took the ST in, and decided to bring JJ back to retcon it?

No, Johnson was hired to write and direct VIII and write a story treatment for IX. He was never slated to direct it or write the script. Colin Treverrow was slated to direct and write it with Derek Connolly and then by this summer Johnson was denying he was involved in writing it at all.

Then after Carrie’s death, Jack Thorne was brought on to rewrite. Finally, Treverrow was let go, Connolly and Thorne weren’t brought up again, and after a week or two Abrams was announced as returning to direct and co-write with Chris Terrio.

Luke did something we’ve never seen any other Jedi do before. He projected a solid version of himself across unimaginable distances and could interact with Leia and even Threepio. That had to come with a price. In the end, Luke saved the day one last time and went out a hero.

I didn’t get that from the movie at all. If that had been communicated more clearly to the audience it might not have felt so insulting to me.

That’s immediately what I thought. Died of exhaustion after that performance.

Yeah, I got this a lot more clearly on my second viewing.

I see Rey’s fast progress as playing catchup to Kylo. Everything she has learned as been from him. He tries to read her mind and then she reads his. He tries to use the force on her and then she uses it on the Stormtrooper. He is skilled with the lightsaber and she uses the same trick. Kylo is her teacher, not Luke. That is why she has what she needs already. Plus the patience. Her conflict is with Kylo, her equal in nearly every area. Yes, she is picking up these incredible powers, but she is facing an adversary even more powerful and practiced. I see that as her character’s main conflict. Luke’s was learning the patience to do things right. Rey has the patience and she just needs the skills and some clue how to deal with Kylo and save the galaxy. I don’t think things are as easy for her as some are making it out. The force powers are not her challenge. Kylo is her challenge. No one else who has faced him has had any impact on him. So I don’t find her fast learning of force powers to make her a Mary Sue because they only put her on equal footing with her adversary. He character journey is defined in other ways, not by the force powers she is learning. When you look at her scenes with Kylo, she has not had it easy at all. Things have not gone her way. She doesn’t have it too easy by any means.

All of this.

TFA: A Gentle Restructure (Released)
Time

Interesting, I’ll check that out and hopefully it’ll work once v2.1 is released (I only have one BD50 left and won’t be able to order more for at least 2 weeks).

EDIT: If it’s this:

For those authoring the BluRay version to disc with TSMuxer, you need to select “Do Not Insert VUI/SEI Data"

I’m 99% sure I did that and it still didn’t work…

Not saying this was the right way to explain it, but Force spirits were explained in the last 3 episodes of The Clone Wars Season 6.

I’m not asking “why did they become Force Ghosts”, but “why did their bodies disappear?”

Oh, right. Yeah, that doesn’t get explained at all.

I really don’t see how it killed him. It was super draining, I don’t dispute that, but I see it as him peacefully becoming one with the Force. Rey even says Luke’s gone but that it was with purpose and intent.

Are Jedi supposed to disappear when they die? The OT suggested so, but the PT explicitly says otherwise.

Why specifically did Yoda and Ben Kenobi disappear? Did Yoda disappear because he died peacefully, or did he disappear because he purposed to give himself over to the Force in his final seconds? Did Ben Kenobi disappear because because he sacrificed himself at Vader’s hand, or because he gave himself over to the Force in the instant before Vader could kill him?

The question about why Obi-Wan and Yoda disappeared but Qui-Gon did not nor did any other PT Jedi ever (or even Chirrut Imwe from R1) has never been answered.

Maybe Luke disappeared for the same reason Obi-Wan and Yoda did, but the OT doesn’t explain why Obi-Wan and Yoda did.

Not saying this was the right way to explain it, but Force spirits were explained in the last 3 episodes of The Clone Wars Season 6.
