Same here, unfortunately. I’m going to reread the series one of these days and I intend to hunt down the original before that happens, though.

I’ve heard that it completely contradicts many of the major plot developments that come later. I’d like to read it also but more just out of curiosity. It’s the original version of the Stand that I’m interested in.

My understanding is that this isn’t really the case other than some mostly minor things, for example the original version making two antagonists unambiguously different characters when later on they’re both different names Randall Flagg goes by. It does weave in some things from later books (the nineteen stuff mainly) and changes some direct references to the book taking place in a post-apocalyptic future into references to “parallel world” versions of the same stuff that were used later on in the series.

Then again, I haven’t read the original, so I’m not entirely sure.

Wouldn’t it be a good idea to take most of the Crawl establishing the imperial capitol and why the rebellion might destroy it and give more information on that end of the story? Considering you probably will be lacking for elaboration upon their attack in the regular film. Which kind of brings me to a question, what do you plan to do with the briefing scene? That could be a place to help lay out some expositon.

The rebel briefing scene will have General Madine dubbed over explaining that there is a major Imperial Weapons Depot on the forest moon of Endor. Successfully attacking this base will both be a major setback for Imperial Forces in the outer Rim as well as supply the rebellion with an extensive weapons supply for the foreseeable future.

Perhaps after the sheild generator blows up a whole bunch of rebel transports go down to the surface to aquire weapons and recover the remaining ground attack force. Madine could have his own cruiser just so he can have some exposition like “The shield is down, send the transports” or something, so that the rebellion has a minor victory.

The vfx of the gr75’s should be easy enough.

Keep in mind that there will be no attack on the capital in this film. It is simply where the Emperor sequence happens.

Wouldn’t be a Little blade runnerish ending

Huh?

Quite a riveting game going on in the Chess thread at the moment.

I actually don’t know anything about chess, but what’s going on looks interesting.

I keep checking it for some reason, even though all I see is a bunch of seemingly-random letters and numbers. Not that I’d be able to truly follow/understand it anyway if it was images or video of pieces on a board, mind you.

You guys can’t even read how am I supposed to fight? It’s the green robot madness all over again.

Yeah, this site gets pretty confusing where people state a perfectly reasonable opinion and all you get as a response is “what?”.

Reasonable?

Whether you agree or not, saying that you feel an actor turned in a weaker performance is a perfectly reasonable opinion, yes.

Coffee I notice you have the despecialized star wars trilogy but unless I’m overlooking it I don’t see the official releases on there. That’s a big no.

If I remember right, his posted list is just what he has out on his shelf, but he has more packed away in a closet/storage, including the official BR set.

At least, that’s what I believe he said last time he posted the list. I’d go back and check myself but I’m feeling lazy tonight.

The source HAL is working from had already been converted to 48kHz for DVD compatibility, if I’m not mistaken.

I’ve got the bugs worked out of my DTS encodes already. They still read as 24-bit in MediaInfo, but I’ve been assured by multiple people that know their stuff that this isn’t an issue for various reasons, the most important of which being that DVD spec supports DTS up to 24-bit (though I’ve also been told from multiple sources that bit depth isn’t really a thing with lossy codecs).

But if you wanna take a stab at it and HAL’s willing to send you the lossless files, I won’t be offended. 😃

I don’t touch any of that horrid stuff either, including nasty wicked tricksy coffee.

🤔 You said Red Bull…

Once you start down the dark path, adding cream and sugar, forever will it dominate your destiny. Consume it I will.

Why destroy the taste of a perfectly delicious cup of coffee with horrid things like cream and sugar?

DTS Encoding - 16 bit?
Time

So I’m helping HAL out with encoding some 5.1 DTS tracks for him (regular 1510kbps DTS, not DTS-HD MA or anything), and I keep running into something that may or may not be a problem.

Using eac3to with Surcode’s DTS encoder, or using Surcode on its own, when I input 16 bit PCM audio, I get a DTS output that MediaInfo claims is 24 bit. No matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to get a 16-bit end result.

So here’s question number one: How can I get 16-bit DTS output from 16-bit PCM input, either using Surcode/eac3to or another program?

But in Googling around to find the answer, I keep seeing multiple people over the years saying that bit depth isn’t actually a thing with (or at least, is irrelevant to) lossy audio codecs. So while MediaInfo is reporting 24 bit audio, it’s really not 24 bit because it’s lossy. But in a lot of these same discussions, I’m also seeing that regular DTS needs to be 16 bit for compatibility with some programs, so … I’m kind of lost.

So question number two: Does bit depth (24 or 16) actually matter when it comes to DTS encodes or not?

For reference, here’s the MediaInfo of my DTS output file (encoded directly in Surcode from six mono AIFF files):

General
Complete name : D:\97GOUTDTS\V2\ANHV2.dts
Format : DTS
Format/Info : Digital Theater Systems
File size : 1.30 GiB
Duration : 2 h 3 min
Overall bit rate mode : Constant
Overall bit rate : 1 510 kb/s

Audio

Copy/pasting this from my MySpleen comment (I may also post this in the Technical Help section here):

Well, I’ve been able to encode the audio to DTS without the pop/static artifacts that Audacity introduced for me the first time around, but whether I use eac3to or Surcode directly (yes, I know eac3to uses Surcode’s encoder), MediaInfo always reports the DTS output as 24-bit. I cannot seem to get a 16-bit end result no matter what I do…

…however in doing some research I’ve seen a TON of people essentially saying that a bit depth value for a lossy codec is meaningless.

So I guess my question is…does it matter if the final DTS track is “24 bit” at all? Will this cause compatibility issues for people? And if so, does anyone know how to get a 16-bit 1510kbps DTS encoded from 16-bit PCM input? Either from Surcode/eac3to or from a different program?
