Oh it’s absolutely not the latest version (I think that was version 6.2 or something), although I’m not sure Swedish has gotten much in the way of updates. Definitely download and work on the files from version 9.0, though, just in case.

I think a lot of Nordic languages could benefit from a more thorough translation, because I think they use a lot of summarization. Finnish has already gotten a big improvement in this regard, I’d be delighted if Swedish did the same. Let me know if you need a download link.

Where did you get the original Latin audio?

The Latino audio for ROTJ was actually the easy one–it was on the Region 4 GOUT DVDs. Star Wars and Empire were harder–(mostly) 35mm capture and OTA television recording, respectively. ROTJ was stereo, which is probably why Lucasfilm didn’t try to bury it like the other mono Latino dubs.

So 3 and a half days to download is long, then? Sigh, my Internet connection.

Yes (for Star Wars, it’s 192 and 64, but yes). And they have other identical quirks (dropouts, etc), so they’re just the exact same audio re-encoded.

I’ll go ahead and do what I can with what I have. At the very least with a mostly-synced track, it’ll be easier to get a complete track if we get new source material down the road.

Hm, the Hindi trilogy audio isn’t as complete as I thought. The Star Wars dub at least has been edited already (haven’t worked on the others yet), and while most of the issues so far have been things I could work around, one hasn’t been.

…are in English. It’s pretty clear that the person who synced this did it over an existing English track, because there’s a couple instances of fixable English bleeding over where it shouldn’t be. It’s clear to me they just missed this line entirely. If anyone finds a Hindi dub without this problem, let me know. I’ll go ahead and sync the rest, just in case the missing lines turn up, but it’s a bit of a letdown.

No way is he scaling up 8mm frames that aren’t even a complete set. Even crazy has its limits.

Well, I’d have said SW81, but you also don’t have SW04, so that’s not it. You have no re-eds for any other films, so that’s not it either. Could be ESB70mm, but that’s pretty much an all-film project and we’d have gotten wind of it before now. Which leads me to the only reasonable conclusion: Hardware Wars.

Harmy’s primary source is the Blu-rays, so the grain is already massively changed from the start–see below, where you can see evidence that the Blu-ray was scrubbed clean of grain, processed, and then slathered in fake grain:

As far as I know the only thing he’s doing grain-wise is grain matching, so that footage from an upscaled Laserdisc master blends better with Blu-ray footage (i.e. judicious application of fake grain). The only bits with real grain in them would be the 35mm footage (projection prints, not IP’s or negatives). It’s not Lawrence of Arabia, but the damage wasn’t done by Harmy.

No subtitles yet, but I just got ahold of a complete set of Hindi dubs, and an almost-complete set of Tamil dubs (missing Star Wars, sigh). They’re not synced to any watchable video though, so they need resyncing and despecializing before you could do anything with them, and that will take some time.

In addition to the Star Wars-only Navajo dub I’m finishing up despecializing, thanks to Harmy I have a trilogy-complete Hindi SE dub, and a Tamil dub that’s frustratingly missing only Star Wars. I guess those are next, although I usually only really bother with trilogy-complete dubs and may decide to wait on Tamil until I can get a whole set, which may not be an option (but that would be strange). No subtitles for Hindi or Tamil, just the crawl and alien subs for Navajo.

Theoretically, that was the idea. But in practice, as with the SE changes, they paid little to no attention to the excellent (and Oscar-winning) editing work of the original when splicing in a change. Thus, what could have been a simple and inobtrusive change to the crawl and flyover ended up screwing up the musical cue for the appearance of Tatooine. So while it’s not as intentionally revisionist as the SE changes, it’s actually pretty well in line with the sloppiness of those later changes.

To me, the typo makes it look like the Empire is somewhere between striking back and striking the heart of Switzerland’s banking system. But maybe that’s just me 😉

That link at the paradoxical location is current, and 3GB is about right for the size. Sorry, it’s all languages, all movies, all formats, I don’t have individual downloads available.

Also, there’s been a surprising amount of interest in the matching font I made recently, and I wanted to mention that I did a survey of all characters that appear in the subtitles (almost all lowercase, some punctuation, and a handful of uppercase), and now every character in the font looks what I’d call “awfully damn close, except for the rounded corners”. The most recent improvements are for every character with a dot (i, j, ., ?, !), characters with long diagonals (w, y, A, N, etc), and misc other punctuation (, ’ -), along with second attempts at the “r”, and some other things. I’m particularly pleased I finally got a question mark that looks right, because that was a huge pain.

If you’re not in any rush to get the improved font, keep waiting. I’m still planning to give spacing between characters another look, to see if I can do better on a character-by-character basis rather than an aggregate basis. Rounded corners, as I mentioned earlier, are not likely to make it into any version without some serious outside assistance. All of this will be available in the next Project Threepio release.

Audacity supports DTS-MA? I thought it just extracted the lossy core…

Haven’t lost track of this. I just got sidelined by some new subtitle stuff, which always takes priority for me. My initial QA pass found half a dozen things I thought I could try to do better, just in the first hour, so it’s still needing some love, and may be slower going than I thought at first.
