My Public Apology to Those Lurking in the Fanedit Forums
Time

I’d like to tie up loose ends before I go off the grid this weekend. Recently, I have received my second temporary ban from the Fanedit Forums for needlessly criticising TVs Frink just for doing his job. And all because I couldn’t let go of the fact that Ninja-Trix scrapped his original plans for an uncut version of James Cameron’s AVATAR. 😔

I see that the editor and author of the original thread for his AVATAR project has decided to move on and I should respect that wholeheartedly. I should have listened to addiesin’s advice and let the topic go instead of harping on about it like a careless manchild. Frink has adamantly informed me that I have been a pain for the admins to deal with, so I feel it would be best if I get out of their hair for good.

Some “loyal” member of the forums I turned out to be… 🤦‍♂️

Come November 3rd, the day my second ban comes to a close, I shall be logging off from the forums permanently and taking my business elsewhere. Simply put, I will be sticking to this site and Reddit from here on out. I have a feeling some of you will have your concerns as to whether this decision is even necessary or merely an overreaction on my part, but I just feel the Fanedit Forums aren’t the right place for me anymore. At least, not after the way I’ve been behaving.

To TVs Frink, addiesin, DominicCobb and others, I would like to offer my sincere apologies for treating you like dirt this year, and also for failing to adhere to the forums’ carefully published guidelines. I might have more success here and on Reddit, but we’ll leave it up to time to decide.

Thanks for your attention.

Also, is it still being worked on for the final shot to be an overhead shot of Tatooine in space as the Falcon makes the jump to lightspeed?

I would love to see this idea fully realized. I posted a mockup of it a while ago but my experience is nowhere close to where it would need to be to pull it off. I think the music just needs to extend out a bit. I’m just not a fan of it cut straight from Rey’s theme to the credits 🤷‍♂️

@Dat_SW_Guy had a mockup he made:

That is… not too bad. 👍

I’ve been combing through the behind the scenes footage, mainly because I’m hoping to incorporate some extra shots into the Kijimi sequence. As I was going through though, I also went ahead and pulled every other shot I could find that might potentially be added somewhere in the film with minimal touch-ups. I know some shots have been considered or even included in Ascendant already - and the shots that remain likely won’t work for any number of reasons - but I thought it might be worth looking through them again with fresh eyes. Maybe add an extra landscape shot or two on Pasaana? More footage at Leia’s funeral? An extra shot on Endor? I dunno; I’m just looking for more ways to slow the pacing.

I rendered it as uncompressed to preserve as much information as possible, so the file’s kind of large.

Not a bad idea, Sherlock. 😉

I imagine the only way to see Shaw in the role here would be for jonh to photoshop a face for him and animate it slightly. It’d be great to see, and I suspect we’ll either see it or not regardless of discussing it here.

That would be cool to see. A far cry from the recently showcased attempts at implanting his face onto that of Tobey Maguire’s, and it would give the climax that extra ‘oomph’, just as an epic final battle should have. And it would fix a long-lasting continuity error created by the 2004 Special Editions. 😃

So, slightly off-topic but new fan editing resources just dropped on D+ (“Galaxy of Sound”). From what I’ve read, it’s basically scenes from the films with all of the dialogue and music turned down and having only sound effects on the soundtrack.

Has anyone here checked it out yet? If so, could there possibly be anything we could use for this edit?

That’s interesting! I’ve just checked it out and I didn’t expect something like this to drop on the streamer on an ordinary day like today! What do you have to say, HAL? 😄

^ MR appeared not to take it well when I hushed him about raising a sensitive subject about a now-banned member and expressed something to the effect of walking away, either temporarily or permanently.

Sort of an unintended parting gift from that other member, in effect. It sucks, and I hope he returns, but I don’t want to stall things indefinitely and would like to see V2 get finished sooner rather than later.

What exactly did he say? 🤨

Read through the past pages if you’re interested, it wasn’t too long ago. For his sake I don’t think we need to keep dwelling on this.

Right. For now, let’s just focus on the new changes and hope that MR will return to work full-time as soon as his computer issues are sorted. I’ve recently checked out a list of VFX-related changes he intends to make for The Last Hope, and it has left me quite hyped, to say the least. 😃

Where might I find skenera’s LUTs for the film? I’d like to try those out myself. ^^

I went ahead and updated the OP with more current info. Here’s my thoughts and questions about what remains that is needed for V2, with an eye on what is truly required to complete it. I’d like to have it out in time for the film’s second anniversary, though ultimately it will just be finished when it’s finished.

  • Mustafar minute, mentioned in the post above this one.

  • The Youngling voiceover. CaptainFaraday was working on incorporating it into the mix, which in this case is trickier than it sounds. Absolute worst case, it is included but almost too subtle to notice, since it’s too cool to pass up.

  • Jonh only comes around once in a blue moon, and there are two things needed from him: the updated and improved ghost quartet footage and fixing some of the glitches as he gave Luke a haircut on Ach-To.

  • Cracked saber FX. I super hope I’m wrong, but it looks like MoviesRemastered may have left for good. If so, this will increase work for Luka Frik. The first part of the movie still needs this effect: the training scene, underground on Pasaana, Rey vs. TIE, and meeting Zorri. This is very time-consuming work, so it may be some time before it’s completed. If Luka could chime in, I’d appreciate his perspective here.

  • Removing Rey’s milky eyes during a brief shot during her vision sequence. I think Neverar said he would likely tackle this at some point. Not essential, though, so it could safely be omitted.

That’s it! There are a couple other things, such as the sabers fizzling out, that I would need from others and that I would include if I ever do but I’m okay with excluding if not.

Where did you hear MoviesRemastered may be gone for good? 😧

Just got word back from Speaking of AI. Here’s what he had to say.

“I’m well, thanks.”

“Unfortunately, the updates to my AI models didn’t go as well as I’d hoped. I can control the emotion a little better - but the quality of the speech drops considerably. Also, I don’t have a good method to get Adam Driver to do a “soft” voice - which is required for some of the lines.”

“To be honest, I don’t think the technology is there yet, for this kind of project. It’s okay for narration, but not for real acting/emoting. You’re probably better off getting a voice actor to do a Kylo Ren impersonation.”

“Sorry about that - but I wish you all the best with the project.”

I responded back to see if the line, “You’re just a clone” could still be used.

“You’re just a clone”?

If you’re planning on adding unused music, you should definitely check out Superultramegaa’s channel for examples of his soundtrack restoration work. https://youtube.com/c/Superultramegaa19

And would you consider trying to fix the green screen in the deleted scene from DH P2 with Harry and Ginny on the marble staircase?

I am not skilled at VFX myself, so I wouldn’t be able to.

Also, I don’t plan on adding that scene back in. While it showcases a nice scene between Harry and Ginny, it kind of ruins the surprise of Harry being in the crowd and revealing himself to everyone in the Great Hall.

I suppose there is a different way to look at the sequence, as if Harry himself chooses to reveal himself, but I think the sequence works better without the deleted scene. I don’t know, I could reconsider adding it back in like I did with the scene from Half-Blood Prince with Harry and Dumbledore leaving the cave.

Who do you plan on having handle the VFX for you, then?

I don’t know. I’ve never commissioned anyone to do VFX for one of my projects before. I’m hoping someone can help for my other projects as well such as Superman II and Spider-Man 3. Maybe even find someone talented at deepfakes too.

And you say you’ll be adding in some trailer shots as well. I hope to see some preview clips in the coming weeks so I can see how seamlessly they can be integrated into the film.

I’m planning on adding in three. I’ve already added in the shot of Ginny being disarmed by Greyback from the original teaser of Half-Blood Prince. I’m also planning on adding an extra shot of the Hogwarts shield breaking away and the moment with Voldemort grabbing Harry’s face from Deathly Hallows - Part 2.

How do you plan on making a smooth and effective transition to the last one?
