Well, I still do rather like the three-shot version. (Volcano drone footage > Vaderā€™s Castle from Rogue One with TIEs added > TIEs over forest)

In a version using Nevā€™s new Biomes footage, it would be two shots: Vaderā€™s Castle from Biomes > TIEs over forest.

It might even be all right to go with: Volcano drone footage > Vaderā€™s Castle from Biomes > TIEs over forest. But youā€™d only have time to see the front or side of the castle. (The music has dictated the pace of the added footage from the beginning. I synced the soundtrack to where the music is when we see Kylo and extended it backward.)

I think I might prefer the third option overall.

Holy shit. Your life sucks balls right now! Even I donā€™t have it as rough as you, and 2021 hasnā€™t exactly been smooth sailings for me ā€” although I can say itā€™s a step up from the shitshow that is 2020, thatā€™s for fucking sure! šŸ˜…

I hope this doesnā€™t mean youā€™ll be forced into early retirement, because judging by the wording in your post, you sound like youā€™re finally ready to throw in the towel. That might be because youā€™ve been through a lot this year, preventing you from releasing The Last Hope on schedule, but should you decide to make it your last project in light of your day-to-day struggles, then I anticipate it being the noblest end in fan editing history. šŸ˜Œ

I had been keeping up with MRā€™s updates on Youtube and itā€™s really unfortunate we might not get his shot of the sabers fizzling out on Exegol, it looked really good and I thought it was an ingenious idea. It really helped highlight the ā€œend of the journeyā€ aspect of the film, and gave the burial ending scene a much better context.

I thought it was a perfect fit for this edit since having both sabers ā€œdieā€ at the end feels like a natural conclusion to both the Skywalker saber being crackly and damaged, and to Rey picking Leiaā€™s saber and finishing itā€™s journey.

I sincerely hope thatā€™s not the case. It would be a shame to have all that hard work go unused.

So thatā€™s it, then? MR is dropping out of the project? šŸ¤Ø

What? No, heā€™s just saying he wished heā€™d been able to finish his own project by now but due to hardware failure itā€™s impossible. Heā€™s gonna see if RogueLeader can open his project files and limp through some of the crackly saber FX that remain.

Ah, right. Sorry for the misconception. šŸ˜…

I hope heā€™ll be able to complete TLH in the new year, then. šŸ¤ž

Now that weā€™re nearing the end of 2021 (thank fuck lol), Iā€™d like to reiterate that I am anticipating the long-awaited release of V2. Compared to other TRoS edits circulating on the web, this is easily the most ambitious and thoughtful of them all as it stays true to the story beats chosen by J.J. Abrams and Chris Terrio ā€” although Iā€™m sure some of us would still like to see Colin Trevorrowā€™s Duel of the Fates brought to life one way or another at some point in the foreseeable future. šŸ˜§

I have no idea if an official extended cut of Abramsā€™ film even exists and is just sitting idly in the Disney/Lucasfilm vaults, but until we get to see it, or at least a feasible collection of deleted scenes, this collaborative fan effort shall suffice for the time being. And for that, I couldnā€™t be more grateful. šŸ˜Œ

I just hope you wonā€™t be forced to omit MoviesRemasteredā€™s ambitious ā€œcrackling saberā€ effects in light of his hardware troubles. If I have to be honest, itā€™s becoming a real chore for me to keep up with what goes on for him behind the scenes, disregarding the broken computer or otherwise. Thatā€™s one of the many trepidations that comes with spending day and night on social media sites like these forums. You can barely keep up with much of anything these days! Thatā€™s partly why Iā€™ll be going off the grid starting November 1st, actually. šŸ˜…

Whatever the case, Hal, please keep up all up to date on your progress with The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant. And if it is at all possible, I hope to see an .iso file made out of this excellently crafted fan edit so I can watch it on my TV. That would be nothing short of ā€˜kickā€™ and ā€˜assā€™! šŸ˜

Thanks for your attention,
Cameron S. Murphy
