No Cable, I believe Go-Mer does not agree with that. Why? This may seem odd, but I'll just have to quote myself.

I got ya, Darth_Evil.....Gomer is a little shit. Notice how he always dodges my insults?

He still hasn't addressed my question though....Why is he coming here and sprouting his queer Lucas love when he knows it's generally unpopular here? If he thinks he's being noble for trying to get up to stop disliking Lucas, then he's a total idiot. He just keeps his little passive aggressive debating going and trys to get everyone riled. We're negative...yeah.....we insult Lucas every now and then, yeah....but there's no hate and anger here like he says. What I see is frustration among some fans...that's all.

I seriously think we need to get Zion in here to look at his postings. He keeps the threads going in circles with his crap. Notice how he doesn't post in any other thread but this one and another. Interesting that those two threads have basically taken the same tone...such a sad loser....

Normally, I would agree with such an opinion....we should be diplomatic.....except that Lucas is never going to release the OOT again. Everyone keeps HOPING he will for the 30th.....but I seriously doubt it. So at this point....we're never going to get anything better, so why be nice, Gomer?

I don't feel the need to be nice, dude.....nor am I going to kiss Lucas' ass for something he should have released right in the first place.

You can suck his cock all you want, Gomer.....don't think for a second that we should.

But don't you think we should have got a quality release from the beginning?

I totally disagree with you....I'd say we've been patient and tried to play it right. Jay made a mature and legitimate petition to get those movie released.....who the fuck knew we had to specify that we get anamorphic and full restoration releases?!?!?!

I think we are perfectly within reason to start calling Lucas whatever we want. We've been fucked, plain and simple.

Whoes The Better Director Romero Or Lucas?
Time
Romero....hands down.

Romero put some intelligence into those movies. They actually "say" something. Most horror movies are mindless and just wants to scare you. That's fine and all. Got no problem with that at all, but I like that he put something deep in there.

Lucas is a great storyteller, but not a great filmmaker. He gets by, I think. ESB was so good cuz other people who were better filmmakers were making it. He just directed the whole thing from a story point of view....that's his strength....managing everything behind the scenes.

Romero writes and directs his stuff. He also takes suggestions from his cast and crew. He's very open minded. That line in Day Of The Dead spoken by Rhodes as he's getting eaten by the zombies...the actor came up with that, not Romero.

Lucas doesn't work like that....he's said so himself, "It's all in the script." That points to a bit of a control freak with an ego.

I agree, but when it's all said and done, I say fuck the marketing and all the other hype bullshit.

SW is first and foremost a story...Tolkien made LOTR a great story above all before any kind of marketing happened.

Lucas did the first one and then the marketing set in. I think the two are comparable in what to do and what not to do with creative fiction.

Tolkien wrote the entire LOTR trilogy between 1937 and 1949 and it was published between 1954 and 1955. So the story was completely finished when it was finally published and any kind of marketing afterwards didn't affect the way the story was written. SW was an ongoing thing and I do believe marketing played a role....especially in the prequels.

Ultimately....the critics are totally full of shit. Everything is subjective anyway. What I like, Gomer may not like and what Gomer likes, I may not like. So what critics and everyone else says doesn't mean shit....it's whether or not YOU like it.

Now, Gomer keeps up with his shit about us being negative. He's entitled to see it however he wants it, whether it be anger or hate or whatever. I will attempt to explain it.

The original versions are treated like shit. Lucas doesn't like them and refused to release them. He finally did, which is great, but he released them in sub-standard quality. Now, it's no secret that the OOT is rather loved, especially here. These movies deserved to be released in the best possible way imaginable. Even Gomer agrees with that.

What we're angry about is that the movies have been treated poorly by the creator and he has no right to do that, regardless of how he feels about them. They're what was embedded into the popular consciousness of the time. They deserve to be preserved. No ifs, ands or buts about it.

If you can't understand that Gomer, then fuck you. There's a lot of emotion here cuz these movies are part of a lot of childhood memories and people don't like that to be fucked with. I'm not going to get into the whole significance of the OOT from a historical point of view, but let's just say they should be preserved for historical means cuz they did change filmmaking and that's the other major reason.

Bottom line....we're a bit emotional here cuz the movies we love are not being treated with some dignity and respect.

There needs to be some clarification here too.....LOTR didn't have action figures, games, rubbers and coffins marketed with LOTR on it. Star Wars is marketed through nearly every means possible.

Perhaps it was the lack of all that marketing that contributed to LOTR being viewed as reverently as it was. Now, I know SW has always been about marketing products, but all that was background noise during the OT. It ENHANCED the whole experience. When the PT came along, the marketing was really out of sight. I remember it quite well. I do think it was a bit overkill and I think that combined with the PT not being as good as the OT kinda killed SW in the eyes of the general populace.

I knew simply trying to ignore someone wouldn't work. Everyone has to ignore the person for it to work and just ain't gonna happen. Had to try though.

I might try this...but I gotta ask....will the new forum software have an ignore feature. This site begs for it....

An additional thought on my last post....

LOTR existed (albeit as a book) for quite a while before it was turned into a movie. That book series was seen as something very special for a while just as Star Wars has become before 1997 or 1999...yet there was such an outcry that it be treated reverently when the movies were announced that the filmmakers abided by that. There's not much difference between LOTR and SW. They're both stories....except one is treated like a product and the other wasn't for the longest time....

....and LOTR was made story of the century while SW is...well, just SW now...maybe that's just cuz it's treated like a product.....dunno, opinions?

The truth is ENTERTAINMENT IS A PRODUCT

To get this thread back on topic though......I have to agree with this from the OP, but that doesn't make it right.

Perhaps it's cuz we think so many things in our lives are just products that they don't mean as much anymore......maybe I'm just looking for more meaning in things and don't like them to be seen just as commercial products.

Here's something for everyone.....

....let's experiment and see what happens if we just ignore a troll for once. He's playing it very cool and just toying with us.

When you see a post of his....just skip it and reply to the most recent post that is not his...effectively ignoring him completely. It's not like we don't know what he's going to say anyway. He's been spewing the same shit in several threads for a few days already...

As for him wasting my time....I'm at work and I have the world's most boring job, so he's only making my day go faster. Thanks, Gomer!!!

Nevertheless....I'm ignoring him completely from now on. His bullshit isn't worth typing another word on.

I see you as the worse kind of troll. The one who doesn't do confrontations and uses passive-aggressive tactics to start trouble. Above all, you're quite patient in it all, which makes you totally aware of what you're doing.

You still haven't addressed why you're coming here and sprouting your Lucas love when you know damn well it isn't a popular thing to do here...

I got your number, you little bastard. You're not fooling anyone here...

No kidding....especially since he claims my swearing is an indication of "anger." Notice I haven't been swearing much, yet he still claims I'm full of "hate" and "angry."

Troll.
