Day Of The Dead films can be confusing...

I like the original three George Romero flicks (Night of the Living, Dawn of, and Day of), and I actually kind of enjoyed the much more recent Land of Dead, though it is much more inline with the modern campy zombie film genre (when did it become a rule that you can't make a serious zombie movie?) Unfortunately Romero's last two of the Dead films have for some reason really focused on the camp aspect and were absolutely awful.

Zack Snyder's remake of Dawn of the Dead may very well be my favorite zombie movie aside from the original Night of the Living Dead. I've actually still yet to get around to seeing Tom Savini's Night of the Living Dead, though I'd like to.

Though the 3D remakes of Night of the Living Dead or John Russo(co-creator of the original)'s 30th anniversary cut have never held any interest to me, nor have John Russo's independent series of sequels, or the Italian sequels to Dawn of the Dead, or any of the various other non-official sequels.

Crazy how much baggage a franchise can acquire when you allow the original to fall into the public domain.

Let's move back to a concrete example- Ady's ESB Reconstructed.  Only looks and plays like the original.  Benefits from some recomp, etc.  If that were officially released, would you be happy?

No.

If that is what we wanted, I for one, would be more than content with the one Ady released.

Tim Power...? not Tim Powers of The Anubis Gates fame...?

Yes, Tim Powers, the writer of Anubis Gates. I put my apostrophe in the wrong place in the possessive of his name.

If you liked Anubis Gates, I'd definitely recommend On Stranger Tides, it is an enjoyable read. It just got a reprint a couple of years back, so it shouldn't be too hard to find. I would fear a dreaded movie tie-in edition of the book with Jack Sparrow and co on the cover, but the book is way too un-family-friendly to bear the Disney logo... and Johnny Depp doesn't actually appear in the story, though the main protagonist's name is, funnily enough, Jack.

Are there any Assassin's Creed players here? if so, what do you think about Assassin's Creed Revelations coming out this November? finally going to put closure to Altair and Ezio, and explain the link between them 2 and Desmond, I know I can't frackin wait, Ubisoft wants to put closure to this, to get us ready for Assassin's Creed III.

Look just a few pages back and you can read about my ill fated experience with Assassin's Creed II. I am now further than I was when my game save spontaneously disappeared on me, but still haven't beaten it. I am still determined to beat it and get all the achievements, eventually. Someday I'll probably pick out AC:Brotherhood; haven't heard much about AC: Revelations.

So, from what you said I take it they plan on introducing a new assassin for ACIII? That will be cool. ACII is my first AC game, having played the first one but never giving it much of a chance. Four Assassin's Creed games (II, Brotherhood, Revelations, and III) in so few years sounds risky. Hope they keep them interesting.

How is it?  I saw 7.5 on IGN.

Not surprised it is getting lower reviews. The fact is, it is another Lego game. They get new updates and improvements every time (the dynamic split screen was a brilliant addition to the newer titles), but essentially they are the same thing all over again. That said, what they are is really fun to begin with, and I for one hope they keep cranking them out (know it will never happen, but a Lego Lord of the Rings would make me pee myself with joy... maybe when The Hobbit comes out...)

Pirate Legos were my favorite as a kid, so while I am not a huge fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean films (like the first two, can't stand the second two, no interest in the fourth), anything that mixes Lego and pirates is pretty cool.

As far as the Monkey Island connection, it is hilarious how tangled that web has become.

Originally Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert said that the game's inspiration came from the Disneyland Pirates of the Caribbean ride, and the game does give several nods to the classic ride.

Many years later a movie based on the ride came out that seemingly took quite a lot of inspiration from The Secret of Money Island. Kind of fun when when things come full circle like this (kind of like that Indiana Jones game that felt like a Tomb Raider clone when Tomb Raider itself was heavily inspired by Indy).

Shortly after that, Ron Gilbert admitted on his blog that the true inspiration for Monkey Island was actually a little known, and at the time, out of print Tim Power's novel called On Stranger Tides. An awesome historical fiction/fantasy about Blackbeard the Pirate. I immediate got my hands on a copy and read it, and there is no doubt that Ron borrowed a lot of elements from that book for the story of the first two games.

Years later Disney buys the rights to the book On Stranger Tides and adapts it into the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, they even kept the title. Since I really love the book, I am not a big fan of this idea. The book is pretty dark, there is no way a family friendly Disney adaption could do it justice, even if Jack Sparrow were not replacing the books main protagonist. I honestly don't think Disney ever would have even considered adapting On Stranger Tides had Ron Gilbert's blog not mentioned the book several years back. I think this is positive proof that some of the creative minds behind the Pirates films have been Monkey Island fans. Which is kind of cool, actually.

If I were her father I would be incredible proud.

Wally, that is really cool you'll get to check out the new ride early. I loved the original ride. Here is hoping the new ride is as imagination inspiring to new generations of SW fans as the original one was to me as a kid (and I am sure it will be).

Negative 1 is still around? WHOA!!!

as an experiment, if we take some of the raw 1080p ESB test transfers, and give them to 10 different people, we'll end up with 10 different takes on the restoration of it.. i can provide a short sample of 1-2 minutes, and see what you come up with...

I think that is only when you muddle the term "restoration". If you've paid attention to the last few pages, Chainsaw, Zombie, Gaffer, Harmy, myself, and others I am forgetting (sorry guys), all have pretty much the exact same idea in mind of what restoration actually is. Our goal, as the goal of any true restoration ought to be to bring it as close to the original as possible. It has always been that way, that is what restoration is. Maybe we would have slightly different variation on what we think would need to be done, if you gave a project to ten of us to do on our own, sure, our results would all probably look slightly different.

But not that much different considering our goal is the same. For the most part, we simply aren't in favor of adding escalators to the Roman Colosseum, so to speak. Throughout history it has only had stairs, and we are interested in experiencing it with stairs.

It is the people who want changes that are on the slippery slope of never having what they truly want. They have to debate and question how far is too far. Is Adywan's project too far? Are the 97 SEs too far? Would the SE be too far if it was exactly the same minus the added camp? In the version Frink, Xhonzi, S. Matt and others want, would there be the added windows on Bespin, or would the walls be left how they were in the originals? I've said it before, I rather like the windows. This is the point were ten different people will vary substantially. When it comes to flat out true preservation of the originals as close to how they were seen in theaters as possible, it is pretty clean cut with little room for variances

Hello C3PX, I'd like to introduce you to my friend google.

Okay, I need to fix my original post:

Uh... yeah, no idea who Chuck Bass is sorry. At the moment I don't care enough to google him (though he could be totally awesome, for all I know) and it makes me happy to imagine he is a plastic mounted bass that sings Chuck Berry songs...

If Monolithium makes a Chuck Bass Appreciation thread, I will most definitely check it out to see what all the excitement is... though honestly if he isn't actually some kind of fish, I am going to be slightly disappointed... I can tell you that already. Kind of like when you read a book and you have these ideas in your head of how certain characters should be, then you see the movie and their portrayal is so far away that you just can't quite see that character as them...

Yay!

Just finished season one. It is fun, still wondering how they've gotten four seasons out of it already, obviously there have to be some major developments to keep it interesting, otherwise it wouldn't have made it this far. The first episode of season two had that Everything has changed!... but is still exactly the same... vibe to it.

That is why I abandoned Burn Notice, which I loved the first season of. Season one had this big game changing cliff hanger, then in the first five minutes of season two they resolved the situation and made it a dead end leaving the characters facing the exact same dilemmas and problems from season one. Felt like all that end of season progression was for nothing. I think I made it 6 episodes or so into season two and then dropped it. Keep thinking about picking it up again, but just haven't been motivated to (though Bruce Campbell's awesomeness in show makes it tempting).

Anyway, Chuck is starting to feel that same way. I hope I am wrong though. After all, I am only one episode in to the second season.

but tiny little changes here and there aren't that big of a deal to me, but completely redoing the special effects is not a tiny little change. That is a massive overhaul, even if it is done to resemble the original as closely as possible sans the "flaws".

We're still talking about recompositing original elements, right?

Yes.

You know CP3S, maybe you should know what you are talking about first before YOU jump to conclusions, we, meaning asterisk and myself have had issues before, so for him to make that comment does not at all surprise me, is that OK?

And for he record, I am not full of anything but heat, it is hotter than fuck here today, wasn't expecting heat like this for another 2-3 weeks.

Maybe I did jump to a conclusion, in that case I am sorry.

Anyway, I feel you, I hate intense heat. That's why I try to live in the coldest places possible. Even thinking about it makes me feel all sticky...

LOL, why does it not surprise me that you are trying to provoke me to say more...

Wow, now you are just coming of as full of yourself. Maybe he is trying to tell you to ask yourself why you are so concerned with the way we are spending our time, and isn't actually trying to "provoke" you into anything.

LMAO!, you crack me up, I did have a long winded come back but after reading some of your other posts, I decided not to, just is not worth it, and you can call me whatever you want, if it makes you feel better about yourself, go for it.

Most people that know me know that I would LOVE to have an official release of the UOT, that is a fucking given, I grew up watching these in the Theaters, but I am a realist, if he has not budged yet, maybe he won't ever, but then again, maybe he will at some point, I am content enough to wait, and not bicker every fucking day like some here, and other places.

Hmmm, judging by your defensive reaction, you seem to feel like I was attempting to insult you. That isn't the case. I didn't call you anything, I just said that when you make these sort of posts you come off as a typical GL apologist. And you do. I've been on this site for over five years now, I know very well that you are not really one and would love to have the UOT released.

The whole point of my post was explaining to you why we enjoy sharing the way we feel about this with each other. But your reaction says none of that got through. When you jump in and complain about us "bickering every fucking day" it makes it feel like we are at someplace like TF.n, not ot.com.

Expect us to continue our "bickering every fucking day", because this is the place we can go to do so and find other frustrated fans to commiserate with who feel the exact same way. I too am a realist, and my realism tells me the only OOT we are every going to get will be the versions we make for ourselves, which I am very grateful to you for your contributions. As great as those fan made versions are, I am still going to talk about not having an official release with my fellow fans who share that same lament.

Depends on the thread. And if I reveal your post once, the next time I check on that thread I'll know what is in the post. Also, if I don't reveal a post but see that people are responding to something you said, then I will know there is probably something more than a gif or a random quip behind your last post and I go back and reveal it.

It is actually kind of easy to anticipate the sort of thing you are likely to post at any given point in a topic.

I know, but NOTHING at all being said here or anywhere is going to change that, I have accepted that, why can't you? so why sit and bicker aimlessly at something WE are not going to change?

Maybe it makes us feel better? Maybe we appreciate that we are not alone in our frustration.

I could easily flip your point and say that NOTHING you say here is going to change the way we feel about the current situation or stop us from enjoying conversing about it with fellow fans who feel the same way. I've always appreciated you and the contributions you make to this community DJ, so don't take this the wrong way: but you come off sounding like a typical GL apologist when you post gripes like this. Your moaning is every bit as pointless as ours.

This amazon review is AWESOME!!!

Bob Smith said via amazon.com review:

As much as I respect everyone's opinions and try to tolerate all of the quibbling reviews on here, this is just one ongoing debate/arguement that never ceases to end or stop annoying me. Do I think the originals should be included just to appease the die-hard & [really] old-schools fans? Yes. Do I care if they're not included? No. No I don't love every little thing that's been added, however I do appreciate him cleaning up some of the special effects - so I don't let those things bother me. I don't agree that every change he made was for the better, but it's a great saga - deal with it. Once he's made up his mind he's likely not going to change it over a bunch of negative amazon reviews.

Another mindless apologist. That is great some of you have the versions you really want, but why get annoyed at us for lifting our voices to protest the fact that we don't have ours? That fact that guys like this "don't care" and finkishly tell us to "deal with it" is the reason why we feel like we've been rubbed so raw. The fact that we are told to shut up and just accept it is the reason won't be silenced. No, amazon reviews nor our "bitching" on this form won't get us any where. I truly don't expect we will ever see a proper release of the originals, the only slim chance I see of it is George's passing, but even after that I wouldn't hold my breath. But shutting up and accepting it isn't going to accomplish anything either.

I really like how he felt the need to add the word "really" before "old school", just to suggest anyone interested in the originals is partially fossilized and living out their end in a nursing home sleeping with the faces VHS set clutched tightly to their chest every night. I'm for one am not even thirty yet.
