Unless if you have shit pre-built or stupidly fucking idiotic Apple computer.

I have a stupidly fucking idiotic Apple computer. I love it! I've had so many laptops start falling apart on me after a little over a year, I am still having a hard time believing that I have had this thing for over three years now, and other than some scratches on the casing and a couple of minor cracks around the edges, the thing is still as good as new. The last couple of years prior to switching to Apple I dealt with so many viruses it has felt rather nice not having to so much as worry about that for all this time. Haven't even had to reformat this thing once since I got it, and it is still as fast as it was the day I got it. And getting to avoid having to ever deal the with the even more "stupidly fucking idiotic" MS Windows Vista was a definite plus as well.

Torrentededed Borderlands. Very funning game. Will buying Game of the Year Editions for PC soon.

Ah, I think we have figured out why someone is such a die hard fan of PC gaming. Glad to hear you're going to buy the thing at least, it is definitely a game worth not stealing.

Actually, your point is becoming clearer to me now...

Yup.

Actually, when I was in high school and had some extra time on my hands I kind of enjoyed tinkering with things like that and going online and finding the latest patches or reading on message boards how to get things to work. I think I actually spent more time doing that short of thing than actually playing games, but I honestly did kind of enjoy it. The triumph of finally getting a game to work was more rewarding than most games I have beaten. Now that I only have a limited amount of time to play, I'd really just rather spend that time playing.

Trying to play System Shock 2 lately has been an annoying reminder of my old PC gaming days. It runs well enough, but the occasional freezing up or glitching out is really annoying.

Other than being too short, how was it? I thought it looked cool and really wanted to see it, then I saw the latest trailer for it last month and it kind of unsold me on the whole thing, not 100% sure why. Just as I was sitting in the theater feeling unsold on the thing, my girlfriend who is a pretty big DC fan turned to me and said, "Yeah, I'm not sure about that one..." So we both seemed to be thinking the same thing at the same time. Maybe it was because the trailer was so action packed, felt like I was watching an ad for something overly ADD driven like Transformer or G.I. Joe.

C3PX!  I just bought that Omega + Lil Sis + Bunny Mask from TRU for $22.50.  Their clearnance stuff is 25% off this weekend.

Cool! That is tempting! Wish the mask was still intact enough to cover your entire face, I love the whole wrecked look, obviously it wouldn't really be a splicer mask without it, but it is a little too wrecked. I also really like the red little sister with the baseball head Alpha that it comes with, and you can always use another little sister, but I am not a big fan of the look of the Alpha/Omega series Big Daddies (if it came with a splicer instead of the Omenga, I'd probably run down to my local TRU and grab it right now). For now I think my BS toy collection is pretty sizable with the Bouncer, little sis, and big sis. Hard to justify having more clutter, and there are so many cool ones if I keep going I might not stop. If they ever make a Rumbler Big Daddy though, I really won't have any choice but to add him to my collection. I've always loved the look of the Rumblers. I'd almost consider getting a Rosie too, being such big Big Daddy fanatic, but from the detailed youtube videos I have seen of it, I just can't help but not that impressed.

I think some of the stores nearby are still stocking the collector's edition of Bioshock 2 so I might look into trading in Duke nukem forever and getting a copy of that, hopefully tomorrow.

I am not sure if the collector's edition is the same in Oz, but the American collector's edition is only cool if you are in it for the original Bioshock soundtrack on vinyl (which is pretty fantastic, listen to it all the time). Other goodies are the art book, which is cool if you are into art books (to me it is a one time thumb through curiosity that just kind of takes up space), the BS2 soundtrack on CD (never opened mine) and the massively bulky LP sized box it all comes in (which really isn't that pretty). All in all, if you aren't in it for the vinyl and the art book, it isn't worth the extra money. Right now a used copy of BS2 in the states costs less than a used copy of BS1, I think it was $8.99 at gamestop last time I looked, but I know things run quite differently there (any chance you could buy it offline from the states, seems like I heard our discs and yours are the same region? But I could be very wrong on that).

Anyway, yeah, BS2 would be an extremely worthy time killer while waiting for the fall releases.

@Xhonzi, you better be playing/planning on playing Fallout 3.

Happy Canada Day!

I'm gone for the long weekend, so an early Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canucks! None of us should be drinking any American Beer (aka: "piss") this weekend.

I used to fill the same way, because I thought American beer was what your typical pub had on tap. Now that Ive branched out and tried a lot of stuff, including some amazing micro breweries, I have to change my mind and say that some of the best beer I have ever had was brewed in the USA by US breweries.

The new Wolfenstein had one of those demos that severely underwhelmed me. It just came out when I bought my 360 and I was really interested in it until I played the demo. It felt too much like the various Medal of Honor titles I had been playing on the PS2 for a couple of years before I got the 360. The supernatural powers didn't seem that cool, especially to a guy who had just got his first taste of Bioshock.

I've never really played any of the newer Spider-Man games, I did beat Ultimate Spider-Man on the GC, and found it an enjoyable but ultimately forgettable experience all in all. I really loved the one on the PSOne/PC the first of the 3D Spider-Man games, and it was amazing. Tried playing it again a couple of years ago and it was painfully dated and I couldn't get used to the controls; but my first half a million times beating it were great. I was hooked on that game since I first got my hands on a disc with the demo for the PSOne, which made me seek out a copy of it for the PC.

Arguably BSG didn't sink to supernatural depths (as we have no idea what the God thing that doesn't like to be called God is).

That take on 'the supernatural' was in the pilot and in the progenitor series too.

Actually 2ndBSG got more supernatural because, Michael Jackson thought the "God" line was good. Ron Moore just thought it was just a neat line for a robot to say.

Twist, come on. I think Bingo would know better than this Ron Moore character (whoever the hell he is).

Great Scott! Back to the Future (Was: Bringing to Pass BTTFptII's 2015)
Time

Stop trying to play with my head, 005! It works like this: I'd travel to 1961 and invest the money, then after all my Audrey Hepburn wooing and Anne Frank saving shenanigans are over, I'd travel back to 2011 mere seconds after CP3S departs to go invest the money in 1961 and embark on his Audrey Hepburn wooing and Anne Frank saving shenanigans. I'll be able to go straight to the bank and cash in my investments from 1961 and use some of that money to pay off the loan I took to pay videobob for the time traveling Delorean.

See? Everything works perfectly.

I've made up my mind. I am going to buy that real full functioning DeLorean time machine. It'll pay for itself in no time! I'll just use it to go toss a few hundred bucks in a savings account fifty years ago while I am on my way to go make Ms. Hepburn fall in love with me and make RedFive jealous.

This is going to be great! Best $50k I'll have ever spent!

As for the ESB-preference... I dunno. I think the Asteroid Belt sequence is fantastic, though I acknowledge that a lot of that is John Williams.

This isn't S_Matt's SW or ESB thread. This is the thread about why you are here...

I now have a theory that all Star Wars discussions will eventually gravitate to ESB.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me that we only make fun of nutjobs.  There are plenty of people who appreciate the SE or the PT who are tolerated or even embraced, to an extent.

I think you're absolutely right about that.  That's why I'm bummed my co-worker won't give us a chance. I tried to link her to some of our better conversations, but she may have looked into some others too.  In fact, it may have been around the time Matt started coming off the rails.  If she saw that she may have gotten the wrong impression.

We get some people coming here who kind of want to stir things up and talk about how dumb we are being, and it probably is unfortunate that we have always been so quick to chase those ones away. We're not very good at converting the uninitiated. We do have member who like the SE and the PT, maybe even some who claim to like those better than the originals and they are treated just fine. It is really an issue of respect. If you have respect for our opinions, we'll have respect for yours.

But if you look at this place from the outsider's perspective, this place is quite a puzzle. Imagine you are a young fan of this series (teens to twenties) and you just can't get enough of it. You join every SW forum you can find and you stumble on this one place that apparently hates every part of it you have ever seen and won't shut up about these special feature on the '06 bonus discs they like but still complain about for some reason. (You never bothered wasting your time with those bonus discs because they just seemed to be boring youtube quality work prints with missing scenes and stand in special effects). Not only that, but they seem to say things about George Lucas, who is kind of a hero of yours, they say he isn't that creative, they call him a bad director and claim he takes more credit than he deserves, and they act like he owes them these stupid work prints in higher quality. What do they expect? They're really old work prints! How high quality do they expect to get them in?

When you are coming at this place without knowing anything, it has got to be a weird enough experience. On top of that, most likely these guys have had their ignorance exposed to the ignorance of others and mixed with George propaganda like the originals having been unfinished versions. When they come in here feeling like they need to defend the honor of George Lucas and the SW Saga as it stands (the only way they've ever known it and the way they love it), we tend to do what is natural and defend our stance, usually in a way that makes them leave, or if they do stick around it is so they can continue to "fight the good fight" and point out to friends the cool witty comebacks they "pwned" us old geezers with.*

If we had been better historically with being kind and coolly explaining to those types that it is okay they like what they like but there is nothing wrong with us wanted the originals, which have great cultural value regardless of the version you prefer*, I wonder if the shape of this place would be any different?

*Sometimes winning is relative. I remember watching a debate with a friend and afterwards he commented enthusiastically, "Oh man, 'A' just handed 'B' their head! What a massacre!" the comment caught me off guard as I had just been thinking how 'B' had just made an embarrassing mess of poor 'A'. I have a feeling just about any of these outsiders who come in and get into a shuffle here leave thinking they showed us a thing or two, while we stand back and have a laugh at their expense and wonder if they'll be back for more of a beating.

**I know this was done, but beside it there were often just as many "if you don't like it then you can just leave" or other type comments that were returning abrasion with abrasion.

Yell all you want, man.  You're responsible for my Star Wars world being where it is - NPR and the Daley novels.  Which in turn led to my EU growth.  Truth is, I left the one film I like even further behind because of you.

Oh man, now I am going to be the one getting fans yelling at me for driving you away from the only SW film you really liked! I better find a place to hide.

Actually, it is kind of funny how it is a two-way street. It seems every time I start to forget how much I love the radio drama, you bring it up and sell it to me all over again. Just from reading this post I have the urge to listen to it again. Now you've even got me thinking about rereading the Star Wars Tales from... books.

Stupid question: is CP3S the artist formerly known as C3PX?

Affirmative. It is kind of a funny story actually. A very long story too. A very long and funny story. You see, it all began when I realized I forgot my password after having it completely deleted from my computer's memory, followed shortly by the discovery that the email I used to register C3PX is no longer active, and... well... actually that is the end of the story.

Never mind, it really wasn't that long after all. Come to think of it, it wasn't really very funny either.

See, and I am getting grief over this, and being told my system "sucks balls" when I have been sampling a mono audio that "sucks balls".

Dj, no one was giving you "grief over" anything. You have a very warped way of perceiving things. You mentioned how much you dislike mono, a few others said how much they liked mono. Differing opinions, so what? Then you talked about how absolutely horrible mono sounded on your system, so a few of your friendly helpful well meaning fellow forum members piped up with information to try to help you set your system up right so mono would sound like it should, which prompted you to start complaining about how everyone was making you out to be the bad guy for having a different opinion than them.

I found your conclusion to well meaning people trying to help you out comical and ironic, so I tried to point the irony out to you which is when I said, "A few people were merely trying to help you figure out why your system sucks balls at mono, and you claim they're making you the 'bad guy'". At which point you decided you should act super mature and call me a name.

Notice I wasn't saying "your system sucks balls" nor did I (or anyone else) give you grief about anything. I was saying that people were trying to help you figure out why you system sounded worse than it should (sucked balls) at playing mono.
