Where are you from?
Time

Wish we would have had this conversation a few days ago! Yeah, next time you're in the area let me know.

We can go shooting, or ATVing, or drive four wheelers up a mountain with a large group of people and get really drunk and high until we are to the point of taking off our clothes and humping things we suspect might possibly be women... because apparently those are the only things people under the age of fifty do for fun around here.

Wow, a lot of us in this hell hole.*

I am really close to Knox, where is everybody else? Maybe we should have a mini-OT-con here. Or at least go grab some beers or something sometime.

*Sorry, not meaning to be so harsh on this place or offend anyone; I am sure some of you are from here and love it. Just moved here a few months ago and am still adjusting to the vast cultural differences.

I really like how deodorant is misspelled in the title of this thread. Classy.

Thank you, Old Spice, thank you.

When I was a teenager, I was out with a group and at one point while in a kind of a confined space one of the girls wrinkled up her nose and said, "Ewww, something smells like Old Spice".

After spending the remainder of the night in extreme self consciousness, I've never worn the stuff since. :(

Many years later I was shopping with a girlfriend, as we walked into the deodorant aisle she stated that she forbids me from buying Axe, which I had never bought before nor had any intention of buying, but it was important enough to her that she felt it need said. Several months after that, my room mate made fun of my other room mate almost on a daily basis for "Stinking up our bathroom with Axe".

Deodorant trends are so complicated! How do I know what the popular kids are wearing and what will get me made fun of??? Aaaaaahh!

Actually, I became addicted to Adidas deodorant many years ago after finding a huge stockpile of it on a ridiculously cheap sale. I really liked the stuff and tended to get a higher than usual amount of "you smell good" comments with it, so I've never gone back to anything else.

The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe: 1979 Animated VS. 2005 Live-Action
Time

It is A Horse and His Boy, not "The Horse and Its Boy". I suppose by controversial, you mean the "Muslims"? I honestly don't think they'll have a problem, they'll mix them up just enough to break the obvious analogy to Muslims found in the book. Wouldn't be hard to do at all.

However, I highly doubt A Horse and His Boy will ever get made. Each new movie makes less than the last, Prince Caspian was pretty awful, it was downright amazing that Walden Media pressed through and made the third film after how poorly the second one did (Demestically it didn't even break even, it made some on international sales, but that is a volatile market and a risky business venture). Despite The Voyage of the Dawn Treader being my favorite of the books, I never bothered to see the film since I was warned that it doesn't even loosely follow the book's plot, apart from being on a ship.

It has been confirmed that the next Narnia film will be The Magicians Nephew instead of The Silver Chair. Why? Because they looked at book sales and realized that next to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, the second highest selling book in the series is The Magician's Nephew.

When it comes to a series of books, I am not sure sales account for popularity (in fact, in this case I am certain they don't). Even though The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is my favorite book, I've never decided to just go out and buy a copy of it alone, or give a copy of it as a gift. I have given several sets of the series as gifts. If I have ever given just one book from the series as a gift, it has been The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. Why? Because it is the first book in the series. The fact that they republished the series in chronological order after Lewis died made The Magician's Nephew (always my least favorite of the series) book one. Imagine someone recommends a book series to you, you think it sounds interesting so the next time you are in a bookstore you immediately look for the first part of the series. Of course The Magician's Nephew's is the best selling book; for the last few decades it has been the first book in the series. I wonder how many people bought it and never got around to reading it. Or bought it, read it or started reading it and decided it wasn't for them.

It is obvious they are getting desperate here by abandoning any logical order and now basing which one comes next on book sales. I have a feeling after The Magician's Nephew flops (and it will), we can fully expect it to be the last film in the series.

I don't like how it turned out as well as I do the lightsaber, but it's not bad.

I think it looks great! Having the light being emitted as a cone (like in Bingo's pic) would balance it out, a bit more like the sabre. In comparison to the sabre, it feels too short, but more silver, like in the extended screwdriver, would make the actual five feel too long. Imagining it in my head as a cone shaped beam it looks fantastic!

I also like the idea of you changing it in your sig to discombobulate Fink. Earlier this year when Doctor Who related discussion was finding its way into several threads and everyone was changing their avatar to some incarnation of the Doctor or another, Fink kept trying to remind everyone that this was a Star Wars forum. That was fun. If you do change your sig pic to the screwdriver, I think we should plan another mass Who'ing of our avatars...

Last web series/tv show seen
Time

New show by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, Life's Too Short just started last week. Having really loved The Office and Extras, I've been really looking forward to this. Just finished the first episode.

First thoughts: During the whole episode I couldn't shake the feeling I was watching Warrick Davis pretending to be Ricky Gervais...

The fictional Warrick Davis character of the show is basically Ady Millman and David Brent mixed together and played by dwarf, who just so happens to be Warrick Davis.

The better half has a 'Sonic' Mobile Phone (Cell Phone).

It maps the stars and monitors his location on Earth, handles the internets, shows video, acts as an alarm clock, can work as a handy door wedge/paperweight etc (it also does telephone calls).

You don't have a sonic mobile phone as well? Why should your other half have all the fun?

All the molestations that happened after the one that McQueary witnessed wouldn't have happened if McQueary and everyone else involved had done the right things.

Exactly. Which was why I couldn't feel sorry for those who still want to see Paterno as a hero. His inaction is almost as bad as carrying out the crime himself. He admitted he knew it was going on and he could have done more to stop it.

I feel that the whole industry turned the corner a few years back and is now just like any other big industry - money can be made through hype and clever advertising, and nobody cares if the games are buggy as hell.

Honestly, when has it really been any different? There have always been really buggy and really crappy games out there flooding the market, with an occasional really well polished great game, all costing the exact same price. In case your weren't there yourself, look no father than The Angry Nintendo Nerd to see that trend stretches way back. Every generation has had its stinkers, and every generation has had games that could be great but suffered from bugs that make them unbearable.

I agree with Dayv. It is sick bastards like that that make it hard for me to be against the death penalty. There is no rehabilitation from that, and if there was, would we want it? From here it is just spending tax dollars on the guy until he dies. Do we really need to do that for something so evil that it sets up a charity in order to get close to and prey on the children it claims to help?

Sounds lame. However, if they went with Paul McGann as the Doctor... that would actually be kind of cool...

Well, not if he plays the character as a daft idiot, like in the 96 telefilm, but if he plays portrays him like the 8th Doctor in the radio dramas... I'd definitely take a look.

This would be a nice compromise in fitting it in with the continuity while also not fitting it in with the continuity, I have the feeling they are looking more for a reboot were they can say, "hang it all" to any established Who lore. In other words, they aren't interested in making Doctor Who, just in using the name and butchering the base concepts to make a few bucks. Yay for a day and age where nothing original exists!

*sigh*   I give up  C3PS will never understand about sports.

And what do you know about sports, huh? Very little, I'm guessing. Quit trying to arrogantly present yourself as "understanding" sports above others.

In all fairness to Warbler, that wasn't exactly what he was trying to say. He wasn't trying to claim to know more about sports than me, and therefore carry a more weighty and informed opinion on the subject. Rather, he knows I have never been able to force myself to be the least bit interested in sports (I mean, I enjoy playing them sometimes, but not watching), so what he was saying was that since I am not a sports fan, I can't understand how significant Paterno was to those fans who loved him. Which isn't true. While I don't appreciate sports, I still get the logistics of his importance; and just because I don't have sports heroes, doesn't mean I have never had heroes.

That said, Warb's point misses the point I have been making and really has no bearing on anything. I have people I look up to and think are pretty fantastic, if it came out they were part of a scandal like this, you can bet my feelings of pride and respect in regard to them are going to disappear in a puff of disgust and disappointment.

So, I think Warlber should be quiet about this because he's the one who clearly doesn't understand anything about this situation, feeling sorry for JoePa and the PSU students. What a warped point of view...

I agree, that is a pretty warped point of view, and I've been kind of surprised at the side Warb's taken on this (not that he is defending Paterno, but at the sympathy over those upset about something so sickening and ridiculous), considering I am usually the one poking fun at him for having a bleeding heart. Just one child being raped is a more severe issue than every stupid football game that has ever been played. Those students who are protesting don't deserve sympathy, they deserve a reality check.

I loved John Simm as the Master. Thought he was brilliant. Unfortunately, yeah, the episode really sucked. The aged Doctor part was painfully lame, and the way they got him back was unbelievably dumb. Out of all the episodes in the series, this was the finale I really, really, really, really wanted to like, but it was pretty awful.

(okay so here's the actual conversation part)

So we are hanging out at the same bar as before and she says out of nowhere, "I like large penises." It was like she couldn't wait to get it out there. She continued and said that she has been lucky when it comes to men with big dicks. So not knowing how to act towards such a statement I just say, "Well Baby, your luck has run out."

Wait, what? Is that really that weird? I mean, you guys hung out before and she made it clear she was sexually interested in you, and you still hung out with her again, which naturally would suggest to her that the sex thing isn't off the table. Add a little alcohol to the mix, and talk of genitals seems like a fairly reasonable topic for conversation.

I take it the weird part is she simply assumed you have a large penis without having any reason to suspect it?

Which part exactly is "goofy shit"? Just the fact that she so blatantly wants to have sex with you, or the penis conversation?

As far as the two Daves' sentiments about just going for it, I most definitely see your hesitation. 21 is really young and she sounds kind of immature. I wouldn't be opposed to having a casual sexual relationship with a co-worker, if it could be just that. But at 21, the chances of that going over without out-of-control drama in both your personal and work life seems much less likely.

So now I'm in this super awkward situation and I have no idea how to handle it. She is my coworker after all.

With tears in your eyes and a shameful quiver in your voice, tell her you have a really, really, really tiny dick, and that after her comment about liking big penises, you'd be too ashamed to even try it for fear that she wouldn't even be able to feel it. From there just tell her you'd like to keep things professional.  ;-)

My room mate bought it. It looks really cool, but for some reason I just don't have any interest in playing it myself and haven't touched it.

Meanwhile, loving MW3! I wish all my friends' schedules weren't all so different, it is hard to get a decent sized group together, which is where the game really gets fun.

I really want Halo Anniversary, but I am going to hold back and wait. Already overwhelmed with the stack of games I have to play right now. One last achievement I need in Dead Island, still need to beat Rage, as well as the Battlefield 3 campaign, and the MW3 campaign (which I am gnawing away at every chance I get to play by myself).

Now that I have to fight for the xbox... with a freakin' Skyrim player no less, the few chances I get to play are going to be even more rare.
