I excitedly got my hands on the latest issue of The Walking Deal, made it a little over halfway through, phone rang, had to run out and take care of something, and just now realized I never picked it back up again to finish it. Since it has been a couple of days and I haven't felt a pressing need to finish it, maybe this is a good time for me to let several issues stack up. It is moving along really slowly only getting to read a segment per month. The current storyline is actually really cool, but I think I'd enjoy it more if I could just sit down and read a bunch at once.

I've had crushes on nine girls, and I can remember the names of each of them and the order in which I crushed on them (this includes the one I actually fell in love with).

First off, posting the actual names of the non-celebrity crushes is a little creepy... Just saying.

Second, celebrity crushes aren't viable crushes, so it doesn't matter that the Alantis Morissette and Heather Langenkamp you are attracted to do not exist anymore, and it shouldn't be an unpleasant experience for you. It isn't like if you had been born in the right decade you'd be hooking up with the young Heather Langenkamp. I feel like you might be taking your celebrity crushes too seriously.

Also, 2001 - 2008? That is a long time for a "crush" to last. Did you ever ask her out during that period of time, or have any kind of relationship? I am assuming this is the one you fell in love with, so there must have been something mutual there, right?

I'm coming to the conclusion that you are doing it wrong (but I could be wrong). For one, adults don't really use the word "crush". Of course, you could still be in high school for all I know. From high school to present I have been interested in so many girls that I couldn't possible remember all of their names, even if I knew their names to start with. Some were month long endeavors of trying to impress her, others lasted just the minutes it took to talk to her and find out she had a boyfriend or that she wasn't interested. Lingering crushes from afar are about as conducive as celebrity crushes. And no offense, but they can be kind of creepy. It is much better (and not creepy) to put yourself out there, crash and burn, cut your loses, and move on to the next; which is only the worst case scenario, alternatively, you might put yourself out there and find out she is interested.

Let's look at the situation with Brianna. You bemoan the fact that your work schedules didn't line up enough for you to get the chance to know her, then you got laid off. Losing the job sucked, but it shouldn't have had an bearing on how things played down with Brianna. She was a server, so the solution would have been to go back and grab a coffee/meal/whatever they served there at a time you knew she'd be working, and either flat out ask her if she wants to hang out*, or at least say something along the lines of, "Hey, could I get your phone number? I'd kind of like to stay in touch."

*This is kind of one of the cool things about our society at present, the word "hanging out". It is different than a date, but it still gives you close interaction time to get to know someone, without the pressures of a date. "You want to hang out sometime?" is a very different question than, "Would you want to go out sometime?", but the two accomplish almost the exact same things. Yet they have very different connotation to them. Asking a girl to "go out" with you tells her you are already romantically interested in her, which adds an element of nervousness and pressures, if she isn't sure how she feels about you, or has never thought of you that way before and was caught off guard by your question, then she is much more likely to play it safe and make an excuse. If you ask a girl to "hang out", it is merely saying I think you're kind of cool and wouldn't mind getting to know you better.

From there it can evolve into anything. If there is attraction and chemistry there, then it will probably evolve into some fun times down the road (or that evening), if there isn't but you end up getting along well, then you may have made a cool new friend, and if there is nothing at all, then you've really lost nothing and now know it is time to move on to the next one.

And, of course it SHOULD mean keeping kids away from mature games, but that seems doubtful since a lot of parents buy games for their kids without knowing anything about them.

In the states our "M" rating is suppose to mean you have to be 18+ to purchase, but I am not even sure how many places card for that. I know at Gamestop they always ask me if I am over 18, even though I clearly am. I think they are obligated to ask that anytime someone buys an "M" rated game. On several occasions I've overheard a parent purchasing a game for their child and being asked if the person it is being purchased for is 18, and when the answer is 'no', they give a quick spiel informing them of what kind of content the game has in it (by reading the back of the box).

I've never heard a parent decline to buy the game after hearing that though. They usually just say it is fine. So yeah, dumb kids will still be playing anything and everything. It is really cool the Australian censorship thing looks as though it will be something of the past.

The other day, I heard someone say that there were 3 types of people in the world: Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness.  Clearly my lovely wife is none of these, but I am squarely Army of Darkness.  A little less so ED2, and even less so ED.  I don't know how the remake factors in.

The remake was very much along the lines of The Evil Dead, only modern day and with a big budget. If you didn't like the original, or horror films in general, avoid it. It is really gory, and had some really brutal cringe worthy moments in it. Not to say it was all serious, it was silly in a typical horror film sort of way.

I loved Evil Dead 2 and I still think it might be my favorite, but I really do love Army of Darkness. They are so different, it is almost hard to pick one over the other in a way that isn't true with most series of films. So, I am not sure if I would say I am an ED2 person or an AoD person... Ultimately I think I'd have to fall on ED2. But I'm not sure I'd love ED2 the way I do if it wasn't followed up by AoD.

I watched the original last night, and the tree rape scene makes me uneasy. In fact, the tree scene and the pencil scene from the original still wig me out a bit. There was a similar tree scene in the remake, but less explicit, and not nearly as disturbing. And fortunately, the pencil bit was nowhere to be found. That part always makes my ankle hurt. The Oldsmobile makes an appearance, which made me super happy.

<>

Sounds like Raimi is getting ready to write the script for Army of Darkness 2, which would be absolutely awesome! Seems this new Evil Dead has gotten some pretty good reviews, and that they have already green light a sequel. I won't complain about more Evil Dead. With all the crap floating around out there, and all the stupid remakes of everything and modern day sequels to everything, remaking and continuing The Evil Dead is one of the few I can totally get behind and be in full support of. With Raimi, Campbell, and the rest of the crew involved, a sequel to Army of Darkness would be hard to mess up. It is pure silly camp to begin with, and a brand of pure silly camp I'd love to see more of. The post-apocalyptic alternative ending to AOD, which Raimi has always said he prefers, would make the perfect picking up point for a sequel featuring an aged Ash Williams. If they do make it, I really hope they continue the theme of one film picking up right where the previous film left off.

Wow. I hadn't heard anything about it until now.

It seriously looks like one of the craziest, coolest things ever. The fact that the ever awesome Michale Beihn does the voice acting for the main character makes it even more incredible. It is a stand alone arcade game and not dependent DLC. I have hardly had any time to play games at all lately and am still working on finding the time to beat Infinite, but it is tempting to get this.

if you've never seen any old Doctor Who, you are not a real Doctor Who fan.

I'd hesitate to even call myself a fan. It is kind of a fun show, and sometimes I find myself really enjoying it, but ultimately, I could take it or leave it. As for watching the old ones, I've tried, and yes, even Tom Baker. I just found them really silly and very slow moving.

And I can totally understand where you are coming from. I feel that way with Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, and so many other things.

Doctor Who
Time

Utterly bored with these new episodes. Not sure what it is, but they are just entirely uninteresting, and not at all what I've come to expect from Doctor Who.

I've never seen any old Doctor Who. My first episode was catching Girl in the Fireplace on Sci-fi channel and thinking it was kind of silly, but also had a really cool and creepy thing going on.

Years later a girl I had recently met told me I needed to watch the show. The only previous thing she recommended to me was American Gods, which is now one of my favorite books, so I decided I'd give Doctor Who a shot. She'd never seen the old ones either, and had me start with Eccleston. I thought it sucked, but occasionally found an episode really intriguing (The Empty Child), and she assured me it got better, so I kept watching. Still not a huge fan, but I do enjoy it.

Anyway, I've been watching The Doctors Revisited series the BBC has been doing for the 50th, and am kind of enjoying it. If anyone doesn't know what it is, it is a series of short retrospects on previous Doctors followed by a selected story from that time. They are airing one per month, with January being dedicated to the first Doctor, February to the second, and so on. I've only seen the first two so far, but it is kind of cool to see some of the history of the show. I have zero interest in wasting time going back and watching classic Doctor Who, but I have always had a bit of curiosity as to what they were like. This is kind of a nifty, easily accessible way for me to do so without wasting a lot of time on it. And since the current season is absolute crap so far, it is kind of nice to still have something Doctor Who related to look forward to every now and then.

He also called me a, "friggin midget devil teddy bear", which references a conversation that took place in Trooperman's the Pope is Jesus Christ thread.

I'm still a little puzzled over the Trooperman/Sam connection and not sure what to make of it. Trooperman seemed to take my "demon" gag as something with deeper meaning though, and Sam reposted verbatim what was posted by Trooperman's account here on youtube. So at the very least, Sam followed that thread and knew of the demonic ewok conversation.

I'm Contemplating Combing My Hair
Time

It was particularly windy the other day. I went to meet some old friends and entered the meeting place with some particularly wind blown hair. My best friend since grade school looked at me and said, "Looks like someone forgot to comb their hair today." To which I responded, "Dude, when was the last time you saw me comb my hair?" His response was something along the lines of, I don't know, ten years or so? That got me thinking about it, and I realized he was right. It has probably been a good ten years since I actually combed my hair, maybe longer. I stopped combing it when I graduated high school. But I am sure there were a few occasions after that time when I combed it, like my wedding, for one.

Okay, so my hair looked pretty awful the other day when I met my friend. I was running on only a few hours of sleep, woke up after the last possible minute, rushed to get ready, and didn't have time to do much with it. I don't just go around with tacky looking lazy person unkempt hair, I wear it messy, but I actually spend a bit of time on it every morning making sure it is the right kind of messy. I even have several different styles of messy I've discovered over the years, depending on its length or the occasion.

I'm lying in bed entirely unable to sleep, and for some reason I starting thinking about my hair. My thought process jumped from one thing to another, and suddenly, I am thinking of all the possibilities I might be missing out on by not combing my hair. I could achieve so many more looks by purchasing an item that cost, literally, less than a dollar. I'll probably never go through with it, but I do find myself intrigued... I feel like my beard is getting long enough that I should start combing it, so it would be a worthwhile investment either way.

You know how you read different posters' posts in different voices? I'm having a hard time not reading this post in the voice I read Twister's posts in. Weird.

After all the basic idea behind it is that God or some other supernatural force has decided "it's your time to die" and only through some extraordinary free will determination are you saved. That is impossible for humans to fully recreate. It's basically your time on the schedule of death being rescheduled due to massively unlikely free will choice being exerted. Or at least it's supposed to be. Consequently if it does hold relevance at all and if any of them are true supernatural occurrences it's simply impossible for us to really recreate such events. We lack the essential data of exactly "when" we should test for such a thing. Also if we ever did obtain access to such data the testing would be futile. The proof that a supernatural entity can plan a time for our deaths and has an afterlife waiting for us would be the result that any such testing would be looking for.

You're invalidating demonstrable studies based on a series of assumptions stacked on one another. Working at your assumptions backwards; for the sake of argument, we'll just presume God does actually exist, but now you are taking it a stretch further and assuming near-death experiences happen when people out will God and force him to reschedule their death? You're also assuming that God has a time table or schedule for our deaths. A lot of things you could never know for sure, and you are taking them as fact and using them to explain why scientific testing on this matter is bogus. If there is a God, maybe the phenomena we describe as "near death experience" is a nifty feature he built into our brains, and not us defying him after "he calls us" and our spirit returning to our body after departing.

Like I said, you're all over the place. We can trigger the near death experience, but you claim it isn't the same thing even though physiologically it is 100% the same thing. It isn't just the same in looks (toy gun), but it is the exact same in functionality. The brain does the same things, the person experiences the same strange experience.

Whoa! Twis, I feel like you are comparing apples to chocolate bars to belugas. You're all over the place.

The fact that everything that is happening to the brain during near-death and out-of-body-experiences can be explained and replicated, is to say that we have an understanding of what is going on in the brain during these experiences, to such a degree that we can replicate the experience. It isn't a case of something artificial imitating something real, it is a case of something real being understood to a degree that we know how to make it happen. We can replicate heart attacks too, because we know exactly what is happening to the heart during a myocardial infarction. This doesn't mean "faking" a heart attack, this means we have the ability to force a real heart attack. At one point we may have thought a heart attack was any one of many gods striking someone dead, now we know better.

It is really fascinating, and is one of many remarkable and complex things about the human brain; but it is scientifically understood and most certainly not evidence of anything supernatural.

I came back here to make an apolgy but you dickwads apperently think its funny to make fun of a guy behind his back. I've gone to lots of other Star Wars site sand they think I'm real cool there but you guys just make fun and criticize my spelling. The only cool one here is Adwyn and he is the only reason I joined this site anyways. Blowfish says go blow yourselfs!!

No one is making fun of you behind your back. It is an open public forum, and you can read every bit that is being said just as easily as anyone else. Do you really expect nobody to make any posts directed at you unless you are logged in at that moment?

You could be a pretty awful speller, and these guys would still be really nice to you, if you weren't being such an asshole. At one point I thought of jumping in and defending you, but then I read on and saw you were being such an abrasive dick that you didn't deserve any defense. Like in many aspects of life, you get what you give. Put crap in, expect to get crap back out. If you are going to be an ass, don't flip out when people treat you like one. You're really giving off the impression that you just came here looking for a fight or two.

Feel free to start over and be a little more civilized, and you might be amazed at how quickly everyone here will lay off of you and forgive and forget.
