I just quit smoking!
Time

For as little and as non-offensively as you post, and as non-confrontational as you are, I find it kind of humorous how often you seem to find yourself unwittingly in these kinds of situations.

I think you are in the clear now though, this topic is now about peculiar body hair and my desires to die young...ish. Hmmm, maybe I should start taking smoking more seriously... I am kind of a pipe (or cigar) once every couple of months kind of guy. A pipe a day ought to do the trick in about 15 years, right? ;)

That and the bizarre long hairs sprouting in odd places seemingly instantaneously, especially when the Autumn moon is bright (or is that just me?).

I am not really very old at all, so I have not yet had the pleasure of experiencing such wonderful anomalies. I am still hoping I'll be long dead before that short of things starts to happen. I'd give myself another 15 years, then I'll be ready to check out... maybe...

I'm not extremely good looking either and literally every woman I have ever been close to has at one point or another gentle told me I walk really weird...

I now have this image that you walk like Jar-Jar. And you always wear a vest and are barefoot.

Nothing like that! I don't know, I guess I just kick my feel out in a weird way when I step. It isn't that noticeable unless you are focusing on my feet (which is something women have a tendency to do. I've had at least three women decide they'd teach me how to walk properly, one damn near did it too, but my ankles got really sore after about a week. I've decided to adopt the story that I have a minor bone deformity as an excuse (for all I know, I do).

No vests or bare feet for me either.

Dark Knight Rises - Now that we know the cast
Time

Didn't like the animated series at all. Yeah, I've seen the long version of Battle, I actually am not sure I have ever seen the shorter version.

Best thing about Beneath was Linda Harrison... ah Nova... the one thing all the later sequels sadly lacked.

As for the Batman title "Rise", I too agree, way worn out and cliche. But so was "Begins".

No, Jose Chung's From Outer Space was great. One of my all time favorites. The older "funny" episodes were a lot of fun, and when watching the series on DVD one episode after another, they provide much needed comic relief from the darker episodes. Confessions of a Cigarette Smoking Man was another fun but not so serious episode I really liked.

Season seven's funny episodes are just corny and not at all amusing, IMHO. And the corniness and self parody are injected into the regular episodes in all too liberal doses.

RE: My name, if I could recover my old pw I would. Don't plan on staying back for long though.

Beneath is your favourite?  Is there something wrong with you? (1 and 3 are my faves... blast away!)

I like 1 and 3 best from a serious standpoint, if I were to only own two Apes films, those would be the two without question. Or if I were introducing a non-initiate to the series, those would be the two I'd show them. From the goofy/campy/ridiculous standpoint, I do enjoy Beneath and Conquest, but don't take them seriously. Battle for I could live without ever seeing again, even the tv series is considerably better than it.

that's the one where a witness describes a monster to a crime scene artist which turns out to be Freddy Krueger?

Yeah, that's the one. I found it entirely humorous-less and just over the top silly. Felt like an X-Files parody staring the actual cast of the X-Files. Absolutely painful.

Sluggo's comments about the FOX network reminded me of this older guy I work with. He is a big time self proclaimed liberal. A political activist back in his younger days. He also tends to come up with conspiracies theories about the place we work, which amuse me a lot, so I listen even though I don't take him seriously. Once I mentioned something about the X-Files in response to one of his theories, his response? "Blah! The X-Files! That was just one big movement by FOX to get people to distrust the government as much as possible before they launched their government hating FOX New bullshit!" BAM! Love that guy!

Crap, I haven't watched 7 yet.  6 was my last season, before I had too much other real life stuff to do.  I really liked 6, mostly the clever/funny episodes.  Are those long gone in 7, then?

And Duchovny does come back, right?

Duchovny comes back for guest appearances throughout 8, I think, and he does come back for the finale in 9.

Oh, seven has its fair share of "funny" episodes, which it what spurred my "parody of itself" comment. Lots of over the top camp.

I like the monster-of-the-week episodes much better than the mythology episodes.  Actually, I liked the mythology at the beginning, but it eventually collapsed under its own weight.

Feel the exact same way. I used to enjoy the mythology more, but it got too convoluted and ridiculous. The monster-of-the-week stuff are the ones I really enjoy. So much so that every time I come to a two parter episode I think, "Crap! Another mythology episode."

Season seven of the X-Files is just plain AWFUL! Rapid quality drop from the quality of season six (not to suggest season six or the previous few seasons were flawless). No wonder Duchovny was so eager to move on. Glad certain circumstances prevented me from watching these when they originally aired, might have left a bad taste in my mouth and made me have thought less of what has been one of my favorite shows since I was a teenager.

Edit: Last episode I watched was "First Person Shooter", to give some perspective to those familiar with the show. Absolutely painful to watch, as was the previous episode "X-Cops". Not sure if I am going to be able to make it to the end of the series. By this point it is almost a parody of what it originally was. Feels like it is intentionally making fun of itself at times.

Last movie seen
Time

Saw Inception a second time last month, really didn't enjoy it at all on the repeat viewing. Weird. Really loved it the first time.

Last movie seen: the Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes and after watching the recent BBC series Sherlock, I felt it really paled in comparison. Though in all fairness, I don't think I would have enjoy it much even if I hadn't watched the other first. Not really my kind of flick. And Downey Jr. simply doesn't fit the character of Sherlock in my mind at all!

  • Rise of the Apes (new planet of the Apes movie)

Rise of The Apes?  RISE OF THE APES?   I haven't heard about this.  Is this a sequel to the 2001 remake?

Oh man, I hadn't heard of it either. Looks like it is another "re-imagining" made to stand on its own apart from the horribly failed Burton defecation. Typical modern Hollywood, "It was popular once, dammit! We just have to keep trying until we find the right combination so we can sell it again!"

I love The Planet of the Apes, and even enjoy the goofy sequels and the tv show. It was a cool idea when the book was published and later when the original film was made, but it has been done before and comes off as really silly these days. After spending years being a POTA apologist and admitting I enjoy it to the sneers of those who think it is really lame, even I was embarrassed while watching the Burton version. It was that ridiculous and lousy of a film.

Sounds like this upcoming Rise of the Apes basically retells the story of Conquest for the Planet of the Apes. The concept was pretty unique back in its day, and the ape makeup was cutting edge which was a major part of the franchises overall appeal and popularity. No one is going to be awed by talking CG monkeys. I predict a total flop, but unfortunately enough people will see it that, as per usual, they will more than make back the money it cost to make it, wholly justifying more mass defecation and reuse of ideas.

What is your social life like?

I find this thread amusing.

I have always been a total dork, and socially very aloof and awkward. Always been into really nerdy things and never afraid to admit it. I've also usually tended to want to spend time by myself, rather than being around other people all the time. I'm not extremely good looking either and literally every woman I have ever been close to has at one point or another gentle told me I walk really weird...

Yet, I have never had problems getting the attention of the opposite sex, and sometimes, usually when I am not available, it feels like I get far more attention than I'd like.

Nerdiness has little to do with lack of female company. I see it as an excuse more than anything else. There are other issues at work, clearly. Case in point, being afraid to ask a girl if she is single, but rather going through the trouble of stalking her on facebook in order to find it out. If you've already got a conversation going with her, asking if she has a boyfriend is a perfectly reasonable question and shouldn't be a very big deal at all.
