I think it was only worth watching because I/we expected so much out of it. That did lead to disappointment in the end, but in the mean time I think it led also to the largest enjoyment of it. Without high expectations, I don't think I would have enjoyed it nearly as much. Almost to the point of it not being worth watching.
To me, that is a bit like saying that (to use a sports analogy, despite my extreme dislike of sports) a week old taped football game is worth watching, it had a lot of twists and turns and every one who saw it said it was one of the most exciting football games they had ever seen. Truly an exciting game, but only worth watching if you have high expectations for your team winning... despite the fact that you know they actually lost that game.
Yes, I said it! Lost is like a really amazing football game (oxymoron?), only it ends in the ultimate disappointment of your team losing. All sorts of great stuff happened during the game, making it a very thrilling experience. But knowing your team loses at the end, is it still worth a rewatch (or even a first viewing for a newcomer)? I debate this with myself. I'm inclined to say, "no", it isn't. But just hearing Fink and 005 talk about the Locke episode makes me remember how amazingly awesome it was at times, and almost makes me want to go home and watch an episode tonight.
Since you can check guns on an airplane (at least you could last time I checked, which was a while ago, but still more recently than 2004), I'd think a set of hunting knifes would fly just fine.
PM sent. We're cool. Sorry if my "how old are you" comment or anything else I said hit you the wrong way, I really didn't intend them to be insulting.

So, if there is anything between you and I, you damn well did start it. I wasn't making fun of you, my comments were serious.

Wait, did I miss something?
I was offering to let you join my ghost hunting group, why the venom? And yes, I am quite serious about this ghost hunting thing.
Soooo, who wants to join my ghost hunting group?

Lucky bastard. Freezing our asses off here in the majority of the States. Maybe I should take a vacation to the merry ol' land of Oz.
Hey, there would be good money in that! You just have to make up shit and carry a bunch of relatively inexpensive equipment that detects elecro magnetism. Being able to gauge people and get a feel for what they might want to hear would be a plus too. Figured it'd be a great way to pull in some extra money on the weekends while easing silly people's minds at the same time.
THEY CAME FROM... BEHIND!
Wow, crazy! Just a few weeks ago after watching the Bullshit! episode on the subject, I began brainstorming ideas for my own ghost hunting service...
Upon reading your thread I got really excited, then when I realized that you just want to play Ghostbusters with your buddies and not exploit people like a true ghost hunter I got kind of disappointed.
How old are you?
I bought The Protector Trials for BS2 yesterday, figured I should grab them while they are on sale even though I won't be able to play them until I get my game back from my friend. Thanks for the heads up Xhonzi.
I really loved that show. And really, really, really, really wanted a worthwhile ending to make it all worth it... and unfortunately the ending was pretty awful... the whole last season was pretty awful... but the ride there was still a lot of fun.
A lot of disappointments with things you think ought to have been explained left unexplained, and stuff that should have been left unexplained given entire episodes dedicated to their over explanation.
I think in the end overall I'd still have to say it is a sci-fi show that is extremely worthy of watching your way through at least once... just so long as you don't expect too much out of it.
At times I can't help but wonder how great the overall show could have turned out had it been made in a age prior to the internet and instant fan feedback. Some of its biggest stumbles along the way seems to have been from trying to cater to fans (Nikki and Paulo, Jack's tattoo episode, etc.) and from trying to dodge fan speculation by continually changing the direction of the story.
Wow, glad they finally made it. I was surprised it took so long. Sent a package to a buddy in Germany on the same day and he got it last week.
@Xhonzi, I gave him a set of quindarka coins and a set of leke coin.
^ Wow, that was a painfully good point.
In my continuing trend of turning this into the X-Files discussion thread by randomly thinking about the X-Files...:
Wow, I've always heard people complain about how horrible the show got after David Duchovny left, so I wasn't expecting much from season eight. However, after a really, really, really, really, really bad season seven, season eight is a really amazing comeback. Granted I am only a few episodes in, but it seems like dropping Moulder and taking a turn back toward the shows roots with the monster-of-the-week stuff was just what the show needed.
Dig out System Shock 2?
Let me know when those arrive, I am surprised they are not there yet.
Start on ST: Voyager?
CSA, I don't have a link I am afraid. But I remember reading a Raimi interview a few years back where he talks about wanting to produce a straight up horror remake of The Evil Dead. His reasoning was something along the lines of he really liked the idea of the original film, the remote cabin, cursed book, and the deadites and thought it would be great to go back and remake it as a mainstream horror film.
I actually agree. Yes, the cult classic The Evil Dead is its own film, so I can see it being hard for some to imagine a remake without the camp and without Ash. But I think if you set all that aside, there is the basis of a pretty cool little horror movie there. No, nothing spectacular or completely original, but a fun little scare fest.
I am surprised how much flak this idea gets from fans. Seems like every message board I have every seen concerning this has been a bunch of eye rolling and complaining. If you put yourself in Raimi's shoes, you have this early work of yours that you really put a lot into, it was a really low budget, low tech thing. Now you've become a pretty big, well known, main stream director. Is it not unreasonable to want to revisit this early project of yours and redo it big budget and mainstream, the way you only dreamed to have been able to do it in the first place? I think it is pretty lame how so few fans seem to be getting behind him and supporting him.
George Lucas can make three worthless, superfluous films, continuing his classic series, and the fans only love him more for it. He can go back and alter and change the old films and suppress the originals and his legions of fans come to his defense over it and back up every silly decision he makes. But a guy like Raimi comes along and simply wants to reuse the idea from his original low budget film he made when he was a nothing no-name director, remade big budget for a modern audience, and his fans all cry foul. Wish a few of his fans could be a bit more like Lucas' TFN crowd...
Hmm, so apparently X-Files became a full out comedy in its seventh season, I hadn't realized that. A shame it is not a particularly funny comedy...
I've long wished they would make an Evil Dead 4. Continuing from the "I slept too long" ending of Army of Darkness, an older Bruce Campbell could fit the continuity (in that ending it showed his hair grow over that period, so it could make since that he slowly aged during those several hundred years he slept).
Unfortunately... I don't think that will happen. However, to me Raimi's idea of doing a remake is pretty cool. Keep in mind, the original was a really low budget film. A remake would be taking the idea and turning it into a modern full budget horror flick. With the droves of really, really, really lame horror films that are pumped out of studios every year, I really don't see any negative aspect to a remake of The Evil Dead.

We're actually not really into the custard thing. And we prefer jackboots.
THAT is the COOLEST CHART EVER!!! I really love the way that it is almost entirely useless!
Unless, of course, you are extremely dedicated and willing to spend hours scrolling back and forth through it to figure out which sequels it is okay to like and which ones you really need to hate.
More charts should be like this one.
