Relief for Japanese Earthquake victims

If a lefty stand up comedian did a routine about the current Japanese tragedy it would be held up as an example of how liberals were out of control and beyond the pale.

Already been done.

I think about an equally amount of fuss or lack there of has been expressed in both situations. And I think it hardly matters. I for one am extremely grateful that Beck can queef his heart out on the radio while 50 Cent can be a complete insensitive asshole and crack jokes about the situation via his gay ass Twitter account. Freedom of speech! Brilliant stuff! And best of all, it lets us see people for what they really are, we know both Beck and 50 Cent are pretty ridiculous individuals, some will take them seriously, some will have no respect for them, in the end, no harm done.

Regardless of the fact that I think they are both idiots, and have zero interest in hearing what either of them have to say, the day Beck is forced off the air for the things he says, or the day 50 Cent's Twitter account his closed on account of his comments, will be an extremely depressing day for me.

005+1, Ringo, C*- are you up for some L4D or Reach on Friday?

Uuuhh, if the "C*-" is referring to me... (I seriously took it as you censoring a slang word for genitalia that begins with the letter "c" at first glace)... there is a 100% chance I'll be up for it and a 90% chance I will be able to.

I urge you to finish Series 1.  If you don't want to watch all of it, then please watch these episodes before you give up:

- Dalek (somewhat cheesy, but much less cheesy than almost any other Dalek episode)
- Father's Day
- The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances (my all-time favorite DW episode[s], VERY low on cheese)

I did finish series one, and have begun to appreciate the show a bit more. Funny, I actually liked Eccleston's Doctor a lot more than Tennant's, but I think the quality of the episodes in series two are a considerable jump in quality from series one and enjoy it much more now. I think Eccleston deserved some better episodes, kind of sad he wasn't in series two, but then again I don't think he could have pulled off Girl in the Fire Place (my favorite so far) quite the way Tennant did.

I actually didn't care much for Dalek, found it a bit on the dry side. Father's Day was a great concept, but really annoying in execution. The whole gargoyle thing was lame, and it is also stupid that he bounces around all over the time line saving lives without much consideration, but suddenly saving Rose's father has the potential to tear space and time apart at the seams. The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances was pretty good. At first I thought it seemed kind of silly, gas masks growing out of people and all, and had a hard time taking it seriously (after farting aliens, can you blame me?). But in the conclusion they actually gave it a really logically explanation.

I am about halfway through series two at the moment.

For any 360 owners who are into silly things like achievements and avatar awards, try out Xbox Labs. It allows Microsoft to run network tests on your 360 in order to improve the service (or to collect all your personal information as part of their plan to take over the word!!!!!!!!1). For 6 hours of letting them dink around with your 360, you get three 0 gamer score achievements and three avatar awards. The first half hour you have to leave it running continuously, at which point you get the first achievement and avatar award. After that you could leave it running for just a few minutes at a time to contribute to your six hours. Second achievement and award are given at an hour and the last achievement and award are given after six hours. I just left mine running overnight and got all three. Also adds it as another "game" on your 100% achievement list.

Kind of pointless (lab coat avatar award is pretty cool), just figured I'd give the heads up for anyone who cares about that kind of stuff. I think it only runs until sometime around the end of this month

Last song you listened to.
Time

Seanwookie's avatar pic has been subliminally nagging me to listen to Neutral Milk Hotels' In an Aeroplane Over the Sea, something I had been meaning to do for a while, which I finally got around to last night. I really like it.

Meanwhile, last song I listened to was:

Society - Eddie Vedder

That song really fits the ideology I had around the time I finished college. Now I find the concept kind of infantile. The book/film Into the Wild could have been about me in my early twenties, had I been slightly braver and considerably dumber.

Wow, I tried to read that post, but all I could piece together was that trombone sound that adults in the Peanuts cartoons say... and something about rape.

Haha! Me too! I started trying to read it, then realized it was about some sport or another so I gave up. Didn't even make it to the rape part. So glad I am not alone in my complete and total disinterest in sports.

Don't sigh. I am not trying to drag you into a "political" discussion. Just giving you something to think about. It isn't a hypothetical, or a speculation, as you heard from adywan it is something that is happening in the UK; a very modern and progressive part of the world under the same sort of health care system some of us dream of having here in the states. There are other things like this happening under other socialized health care systems, but some of us are still in the habit of filtering those realities out and letting our eyes glaze over with visions of utopia.

Wait, what?  Think you have the wrong dude.

Thanks, Fink. Sorry about that everyone. My apologies to HairyHen and to Funkydays. Not sure how I made that mistake.

This is all pretty much 100% bullshit.  Your wife isn't a medical doctor, either.  I don't understand how you can trust a psychologist about such a serious medical issue that has nothing to do with psychology.

Definitely agree with Ash's point about your wife having a Masters in Psychology, not exactly the credentials I'd be looking to for an informed view on the subject.

Being in a similar field myself, the recognition of signs of autism at or around the 18th month mark is hardly conclusive evidence to say it is caused by 18 month vaccines. It is not uncommon for symptoms of autism and other developmental disorders to be over looked in children until they have reached later stages of infancy.

However, I can see how such an overload of simultaneous vaccines could be potentially harmful.

I am not going to say everything Funkydays said is complete nonsense without giving all his points a further look, but it does sound suspiciously alarmist mixed with vague facts.

FD, if you don't mind posting the pdfs of the journal articles you mentioned, preferably with page numbers for the information in question, that would be great and would save me a lot of time trying to track them down on my own.

Twister, you're right. That could have and should have been dealt with in a PM, if at all, for that matter. My apologies. :(

I am very concerned about the deadly substance known as dihydrogen monoxide!  Why hasn't there been more effort made to raise awareness and ban the use of such a horrid chemical?!

Uh, dihydrogen monoxide? I actually happen to love the stuff! I drink it in large quantities daily! I even steep my tea in it! I feel it is perfectly safe for human consumption*

*though I do prefer to use reverse osmosis filtration to remove some of the dangerous things our government tends to insist filling it with.

They are not going to die. These are private clinics refusing to treat unvaccinated kids, and I feel they have every right to. This shock might make the ignorant parents realize that they are putting their child's well being at risk and make them wake up. Meanwhile, they can just take their sick child to another clinic or to the hospital where they won't be refused care.

^ Love to! Trying to do. Unfortunately it isn't as easy as that. The doctor who is refusing treatment to unvaccinated children seems to be making an effort to do just that.

Twister, your punctuation literally makes my head hurt. I swear you just randomly drop commas into your sentences. Don't take this the wrong way, I not trying to bash you. In fact, I appreciate that you even use punctuation at all; seems on the internet a lot of people don't even try. You're making some decent points, however, I think your posts would be much easier to follow, and your points would be much better made, if all your commas and periods were in their proper places.

Shhhhhh!  It's hard enough to get female perspectives on this webzone, don't go driving them away! :p

Is Twister really a girl? I had no idea. Anyway, regardless of gender, I meant absolutely no disrespect. Someone near the top of the first page someone mentioned having a hard time following her posts, and I agree with them. However, I feel that she is making some really good posts, so it is a shame. Hopefully it won't be seen as grounds for leaving.
