Sadly it was on par with some of the revived series at it worse which proved the BBC didn't need a partner to make the show with, all they needed was stories and ideas.

McGann thanks to Big Finish got to prove what a good Doctor he could have been in his audio stories.

Such a waste of potential.

As bad absolutely atrocious as some bits of the new revived series are, I feel the 1996 movie made them look like spectacular writing through and through.

I've been considering checking out the McGann Eighth Doctor Adventures, but there are so many it seems overwhelming, and I am not sure if I am big enough into Who to find time to listen to them.

I'm really excited by the show's return for the first time in a long long time and the first story I can remember seeing at the time of broadcast is Carnival Of Monsters.

Good, I hope things get more interesting. I don't think I can handle anymore Daleks or Cybermen. Neither is that interesting to start with, and they just won't go away. Unfortunately, the next episode preview at the end of The Beast Below was for a Dalek episode. Between that and not caring much for Matt Smith as the Doctor, I don't find myself feeling all that interested in season five and beyond... red headed Scottish girl just isn't enough of a draw for me.

Yeah C3. Both things are jokes.

I put the words double standard there because it's one of the most repeated things over there. And they usually use it the wrong way and for no reason. It isn't a reference to anyone over here.

Ah, got it. I thought your post was a joke, until I read the double standard thing, and that threw me. Glad I wasn't the only one thrown by it. ;)

After the "Well, don't beat yourself up about it" comment regarding Ziggy's movie review, I am pretty sure greenpenguino is my new favorite poster of all time.

BTW, we didn't get the 3DS. Mrs. O'Five decided she would rather have a 250 CC scooter than another game system. We will probably get one closer to the release of OoT:3D.

There are not any good launch titles for the 3DS. They really should have made sure OoT:3D was ready for launch day, I think it would have increased sales a lot. Every 3DS title out right now is pretty generic or a rushed 3Dized port of something. Lego Star Wars III for the 3DS is just the DS version in 3D, the Resident Evil game is just a reworked and ported version the dumb mercenaries multiplayer mode from the console versions. Nothing for on the 3DS as if yet really stands out. Every systems needs at least one game really worth having for early adopters, the 3DS failed miserably on this point.

Meanwhile, I saw a small child holding a DSi XL the other day... I wanted to bonk him on the head, take it, and run. Does that make me a horrible person?

Well... at least someone is playing Assassin's Creed 2.

Xhonzi, I don't need anymore of your CRAP! I'll get around to playing AC2 when I get around to it, so why don't you just stop gettin' all up in my business and stuff!

;)

Hmm, that reminds me... I really need to play Assassin's Creed 2.

The reason I did this was because over the years I've heard many horror stories about this forum and people getting verbally assaulted and ultimately banned for expressing their opinions on the original trilogy.

Double standard

Name one person who has been assaulted or banned for expressing their opinions here? We have plenty here who love the PT and even enjoy the SE, they are more than welcome and we respect their opinions. You won't find banned members or deleted threads just because someone said they think TPM is a superior film to SW. That is hardly a double standard. Let's not bullshit ourselves too hard while trying to defend TF.n, okay? Overzealous bullshitting of yourself has been clinically proven to cause severe brain damage.

And are you sure about your sig? I am pretty sure TV's Frink didn't say any of that.

The problem with the Adywan's cut is that it is tailored to satisfy the fans (not all fans of course) and ignores Lucas' vision to some extent. For example, Han shooting first, this is the classic fans versus Lucas issue. Forr example, Adywan's edit sets forth the fan position of Han shooting first, ignoring Lucas' take that Han Solo was not a mercenary. I agree that 2004 DVD scene looks odd and out of place and the original scene flows much better. However a true "fix" in a future edition should not be replacing the old scene but to completely redo the scene, remove the weird frame jump, etc., so that Lucas' vision is fulfilled.

who knows what is Adywan's take on TPM, in his edit he might just give the fans exactly what they want and completely remove Jar Jar, ignoring Lucas intent for Jar Jar beyond the comedic aspects of the character.

Could never stand Rose, I nearly wet myself with elation when she got trapped in another universe from which she could never return... but then again, I also felt excited when the exact same thing happened to Mickey several episodes earlier and yet he managed to come back. I haven't seen all of season four yet, but I know she pops up repeatedly during that season.

Martha was so much more enjoyable of a companion, and way more competent. So far I am actually really enjoying Donna, she is annoying, but in an intentional comic relief sort of way that I don't mind so much (Doctor Who really builds up your tolerance for annoying BS).

I've seen one Matt Smith episode (The Beast Below), and I have to say I am completely sold on the redheaded Scottish girl. She actually came off as pretty smart in that episode, but I keep hearing talk of her being an extremely stupid and shallow character, so maybe I won't end up appreciating her as much when I actually get into that season and watch it from beginning to end.

the 2006 made for TV Doctor Who movie

I think you mean 1996.

It definitely has a lot of flaws, I'll grant.  Sylvester McCoy probably shouldn't have been in it, the kid character is an idiot, the Time Lords sending The Master to be executed by the Daleks makes no sense, The Doctor is most certainly not half-human, and the Eye of Harmony is supposed to be something that was on Gallifrey, not in the TARDIS.  But Paul McGann's portrayal was so good that I'm prepared to forgive a lot because of it, and (I may be painting a target on my back that says 'philistine' for this, so sue me) the Americanism of it was actually an interesting change of pace.

Yeah, I did mean 1996, typo.

It was also really annoying they went the "clueless alien" route with the Doctor's character. I know they use the excuse of his regeneration for this, but part of the fun of Doctor Who is that he is a 900 year old super genius, no one wants to see him running around being a clueless idiot. I guess that makes it hard for me to think much of McGann's portrayal of the Doctor.

Tried to watch the 2006 made for TV Doctor Who movie... Made it a bit less than half way through and I am really proud of myself! Took a lot of endurance! Kept thinking once the eighth Doctor regenerates it would get better, instead it got significantly worse. Favorite line was when the woman says, "I finally found the right guy, and he is an alien!" just five minutes after she called for an ambulance to come take him to the psychiatric ward for being a nutter, and about two minutes after he steal a motorcycle from a police officer... not sure what happened in that amount of time that made her do a 180 on her opinion of him... especially considering she already found out he had two hearts, came back from the dead, and walked through a pane of glass prior to her decision to have him admitted for to psychiatrics.

This being a back door pilot, it is no surprise it didn't get picked up for a series. "Jelly baby officer? Nom, nom, nom ,nom." Wow!

Bunch of pointless wangsty rubbish that means absolutely nothing, and completely wastes the potential that an interesting character like Jack Harkness seemed to promise when Doctor Who first introduced him.  To hell with that garbage!

I agree about it being "wangsty rubbish that means absolutely nothing." But then again I feel completely the same way about Doctor Who.

I actually didn't find Harkness that interesting in Doctor Who, and kind of like what Torchwood has done with him. How much of the show did you watch HH? I watched about three episodes and came to the conclusion I wouldn't be able to take much more of it (I was very tempted to quit after the first episode), but was determined to make it to the end of season one. Now I am glad I did, after hearing so many positive things about Children of the Earth I am kind of excited about it (middle of season two right now).

Ico looks amazing (thanks for the recommendation CCCP I picked up a copy for a couple of quid).

Awesome! Ico is actually kind of hard to find in the states and sales for high prices, glad you were able to find it easily and cheaply. The PAL version has a much cooler cover (printed off modified version of it for my US copy) and has extra content that was added to the game after the US version was already pressed.

Shadow of the Colossus is Ico's "spiritual sequel" and also well worth checking out.

Oh yeah, and the CCCP thing cracked me up.

I have 2 level 15-16 characters.  The hunter (sniper/bird guy) and the Siren (girl).  Other than their special abilities (and upgrade path)- what's the real difference between the classes?  Starting health and weapon proficiencies?

I'm really asking- what should I get my wife to play?  She might want to play the girl regardless of any other reasons (sexist!) but I might recommend the berserker (punchy guy with a lot of health, right?) if he's a little more... forgiving healthwise and less accuracy dependent shooting wise?  She likes punching and kicking stuff in the X-Men legends and Marvel Alliance games...

I am actually not that good with the RPG like details, I think Super Mario RPG is the most advanced RPG I have ever played. Never been that into them. Embarrassingly, my girlfriend had to keep explaining to me how some of the things worked. However, in terms my wannabe nerd brain can explain, her high leveled Siren was amazing with SMGs (the primary gun I always used in the game) and could regenerate bullets so she never ran out and got all sorts of extra SMG perks. We both used comparable SMGs, but she would do a ton more damage with hers. Meanwhile, my beserker, his special thing is he can regenerate rockets... and I really don't care about rocket launchers at all and never used them, so that was a waste. The other perk I had was kind of nice, which was hing excessive amounts of health and shield, but it made me kind of a reckless player early on and as the game got harder I found my reckless habit getting me knocked down a lot.

The little I have played as the hunter, he really isn't my type either. Just not much into snipers. With my love of SMGs, the Siren would probably be the best suited character for me, actually.

So, long story short, even though I had maxed out proficiency with the SMG, my character wasn't very good with them. So if I were to recommend what class somebody were to choose, I'd go by the type of gun they think they'd like to use the most. Assault rifles, go with the soldier; SMGs, go with the Siren; snipers, go with the hunter; and rockets, go with the beserker.

Out of all the special abilities, none of them are that much of a pull for me. The bird is kind of cool, and I liked my beserker's beserking ability, and I think I'd find to turret really boring. However, since there is so much walking in the game, the siren's ability to phase walk at fast speeds would have been really nice. Typically when leaving an area, my girlfriend would phase walk, leaving me in the dust, and would exit the level for us before I was anywhere close. Which was nice as it saved us a lot of time.

Bkev, the nice thing about Oblivion (and FO3, which is the same engine) is that you can rush through the campaign fairly quickly, but they are extremely open ended so you can spend as much time as you like wandering around the world and doing side missions until you get tired of it.

RedFive, Watchmen: The End is Nigh kind of sucks. There is a playable demo, which will give you a taste for it. Only reason I have it is that I grabbed a used rental copy at Blockbuster during one of their buy two get one free deals, altogether I payed less than $5 for it. It is basically an arcade beat em up, very repetitive button masher. If you like/don't mind that sort of thing (I'm not a big fan) and are a huge Watchmen nut (which I am), then you might enjoy it (I didn't).

Hey 360 friends, I'll have one up and running within 2 weeks. Dunno about if I'l gonna do Live, but if I do, I'll let you know. On my instant to-get list:
-Arkham Asylum
-X-Men Arcade (XBL)
-Banjo Kazooie (XBL)
-Fable... ?

I'm not much on shooters, what would you guys recommend?

Yay! I have a few codes for 48 hours of Xbox Live, if you do end up getting any chances to play with us, I can always email you one of those. I think I have at least 3. You'll probably get a few yourself, seems like a lot of online games come with them. Also, I think every Xbox Live Silver membership (the free ones) can opt for a one month free trial of Gold. Not to mention, if you really like Gold you can usually score a year of it for $30 if you look hard enough. I think the most I ever paid was $35. Personally, without internet hooked up to my Xbox and XBL Gold, I probably wouldn't ever even turn it on.

What type of games do you like? I'd highly recommend Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Bioshock. FO3 and BS are FPS games, but only in that they are first person perspective and you are holding a gun, BS is technically an FPS with RPG elements, and FO3 is basically just a real time RPG with a first person perspective.

Portal, again an FPS but not really, a puzzle game above all else (on sale on XBL for 600 msp this week, regular price is 1200), is a ton of fun. Or you can pick up The Orange Box for around $10 these days which includes Portal along with Half-Life 2 and its expansions as well as Team Fortress 2. Though not being into FPS, Half-Life 2 isn't going to do much for you.

Mirrors Edge is another FPS that is really not an FPS, that I really loved. While you can take bad guys guns and shoot them in the game, there is really little shooting involved. There is actually an achievement that challenges you to beat the game without firing a single shot, which is the way I played through it. It is very much its own game and take a bit to figure out, which is why I think a lot of people play the demo for five minutes and write it off of their list for good. Took me a bit to learn and get into, but once I did I was very happy I gave it my time.

Looking through my games I realize that everything I own on the 360 is an FPS other than Bully, GTA IV, Assassins Creed, Assassins Creed II, Plants vs. Zombies, Watchmen: The End is Nigh, and my girlfriend's Lego games. And humorously, with the exception of the Lego games, that non-FPS list also happens to be the list of games I own that I have never beaten, so obviously, none of those are my favorites.

I might have to keep playing BS and try to make it to level twenty (being a sucker for achievements and all). I still haven't gotten the Save a Little Sister one, wasn't near good enough to get even close, and I still don't have play a match on each original map, as bad as I am at it, it may take me until level twenty to get those.

Sure, BL is an acceptable shorthand for Borderlands in my book, from now on when BL is used we'll know what we are talking about. BL is very simple and it is really fun running around around the world assassinating people and killing skags with the woman you love. Or with anyone you don't mind spending time with in general. Excellent multiplayer, don't think I could ever enjoy it alone though. Having more than two people (never done it) could be a lot of fun too. I actually think I have a level 11 character and a level 17 character lying around somewhere on my hard drive, I'd be able to play with you with one of those guys without killing the balance of the game.

What character class are you? My main character is the berserker. I think my level 17 is the hunter. If the sequel ever gets made, the characters being more customizable would be nice.
