I wonder what this means:

This all-day “Star Wars” extravaganza features a showing of the original film trilogy (“A New Hope,” “Empire Strikes Back” and “Return Of The Jedi”) on original 35mm prints, a special digital presentation of “The Force Awakens” (Episode VII) along with special features “Spaceballs” at noon and a midnight showing of the space horror classic “Alien” (both on original 35mm print).

Of course, it could just be lazy journalism and/or word count filler.

huh. that would make sense. How else would they have really good prints and/or a digital scan that meets modern cinema standards? Good point.

EDIT: perhaps the removal from Alamo’s website has something to do with Alamo letting the cat out of the bag before Lucasfilm wanted them to? Could this have something to do with Peter Mayhew’s “announcement” that he’s been teasing on Twitter? That should be coming out in a few days if he keeps up his posting.

Perhaps we’ll never know (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alec_Guinness):

However, Guinness soon became unhappy with being identified with the part, and expressed dismay at the fan following that the Star Wars trilogy attracted. In the DVD commentary of the original Star Wars, Lucas says that Guinness was not happy with the script rewrite in which Obi-Wan is killed. However, Guinness said in a 1999 interview that it was actually his idea to kill off Obi-Wan, persuading Lucas that it would make him a stronger character, and that Lucas agreed to the idea. Guinness stated in the interview, “What I didn’t tell Lucas was that I just couldn’t go on speaking those bloody awful, banal lines. I’d had enough of the mumbo jumbo.” He went on to say that he “shrivelled up” every time Star Wars was mentioned to him.

Yoda pretty much came about because Lucas needed a new Jedi master. If he ever considered ghost Ben training Luke, I’ve not read anything about it. Sir Alec was having health issues during production on ESB that put shooting his brief scenes in doubt for a while though.

Well didn’t Ben’s death come about because Alec Guiness didn’t want a big role and commitment to the rest of the franchise? In that case force ghost Ben as teacher would have defeated that purpose.

I guess no one here went to the marathon leading up to TFA last December to see which versions were being run?

My friend (who’s a projectionist) did. He says the DCP’s are sourced from the 2011 Blu’s, except for TPM, which was a 2D folddown of the 3D version.

What differences exist in the 3D release?

Beats me, this is what he insists on saying when I ask him.

I’ve not actually seen it, but I think they changed the Fox logo to the new, late 2000s version. Other than that, not a clue.
