I don't see how it being a dream in Link's Awakening makes up for having telephones. I mean, I would assume Link knows what a telephone is before he can dream it up.

And I don't mind the train, I actually think it's a pretty neat idea. It's just a replacement for the steam boat in Phantom Hourglass. Link does look weird in hs conductor uniform, but I'll get used to it.

Yeah, I suppose he would, but it was the windfish's dream right? Not Link's? I still think the phones were really dumb. There are plenty of games that take place in modern times, the fantasy world setting of Zelda is one of the things that made it so cool. Hmm, didn't know about the steam boat in The Phantom Hourglass. I have only played it for a few minutes, but had only heard good reviews, and I liked what I played of it. But a steam engine sounds equally dumb.

I guess I really liked what Zelda was, and dislike these anachronisms that keep popping up. Link's Awakening was such a phenominal games, especially for a gameboy title, it was easy to try to over look the phones. Cameras, steamboats and steam engines are really just going too far. But really, how long can you drag such a title on for? If they can't come up with something truely original (and stupid nonsensical things likle trains just don't cut it for me), then maybe it is time to try something new. I think Minish Cap was a great and successful attempt at this. I wouldn't even mind seeing the character of Link being abandoned and having another character significant to the Lengend of Zelda take up the mantel (and yeah, just so no one feels the need to explain it to me, I know you play different Links throughout the series. But all these Links look alike and do the exact same things.

I think The Adventures of Link did the best job of fleshing things out and making it feel like a fullfledges fantasy world. It would be cool to see something new come along that was a bit like that. Maybe even playing an entirely different character, but still being involved in some important bit of Hyrules history.Even taking on the role of young Impa would be cool. Maybe Zelda could have been kidnapped as a child and you go on a quest to rescue her.

They could even make a game that finally explains the whole Lengend and clears up the sleeping Zelda at the beginning of the second game. Point is, they have a lot of directions they could take, and places they could go, rather than loosing so much interest in their franchise they feel the need to spice it up by adding modern techology like trains to the mix to keep it interesting.

Dude, you do know Daleks are fictional, right? Where 2-XL is a real toy robot? A real toy robot that talks. A real toy robot who teaches children... children with impressionable minds...

Your Daleks are doomed to failure, mostly because they are stupid looking dildos with arms.

Gaffer, Batman and his balls are PEANUTS in comparison to my master plan. If I could only get my hands on some of the damn things that still work, the world would be all mine.

Cue raunchy porn music after the line "a sexy one!" and you've got yourself one hell of a weird adult film.

Somebody please explain to me what place a train has in a world modeled after medieval Europe!

Yeah, that is exactly how I felt when telephones showed up in Links Awakening. At least the game ended and everything turned out to be a dream... sort of, which makes it slightly more forgivable. But since then they have been slipping all kinds of silly stuff in there on us, like the camera in Majora's Mask to name one. I suppose it was only a matter of time before Link hopped on a train.

Come on guys it is just another spin off DS game like Phantom Hourglass set in the Windwaker Zelda universe, not the next flagship Zelda title that is still in development.

Right, but from what little I have played of The Phantom Hourglass, it was quite good. The Minish Cap was really good too. This new thing looks absurd!

The DS has proven itself to be a pretty impressive little machine, when game makers feel like tapping into that power. I don't know details on all the technical stuff, but the DS version of Mario 64 was very faithful to the original. In my limited knowledge of programming and game making, but in my estimation, that means something along the lines of Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask would be possible on a system like the NDS.

If that is the case, why not shoot for something impressive like that, rather than making crappy "spin offs" like this? This thing isn't the GameBoy anymore, it can pack a lot of power, but we are still getting cheezy GameBoy level games, only with better graphics. My guess would be that it has a lot to do with man power and resources. Some POS like this probably doesn't take too large of a team or time to build.

I wish there were more good games for the DS. I love my DS, but I mostly use it for homebrew and GBA games, very few actual DS games appeal to me. Though GTA: Chinatown Wars that was released a few days ago is quite impressive. Love to see more stuff like that.

As for Spirit Tracks, nothing lost, nothing gained I suppse. I just hope the first Zelda for the Wii doesn't feature Link piloting a spaceship to the moon. That would be really unfortunate.

Yeah, I use it all the time too. All my friends seem to know what I am talking about when I mention it, some of them use it too. I probably explained it to them at one point.

Do any other SW sites use the term? I guess we are probably the only place that constantly refers to numerous version of the film, as so have more need of a simple term to distinguish it from other versions. A lot easier than saying, "The outdated, LD transfers that came as bonus discs with the 2006 release".

I like all this stuff about some super computer having controls of all the infected machines. I wish I had thought of that. My most recent plan for world domination involved a large army of 2-XL robots (Tiger's remake, naturally, he is far more menacing looking than the original Mego Corp. model). Unfortunately it never came to fruition, mostly because no matter how many of the dumb things I found at thrift stores and garage sales, I never managed to find one of the little bastards that worked. My wife is still nagging me to get rid of my army of toy robots that is taking up a good deal of our storage space.

So yeah, super computer taking control of infected machines. Sounds scary. What do we suppose it will do with our computers once it takes them over? I'm thinking Judgment Day, I just have this feeling that this whole diabolical scheme was not devised by a flawed human brain, but that of some perfect machine brain that has become self aware.

The end is nigh.

Wow, that sounds really gay. Anyone remember when you first put that gold cartridge into your NES and were blown away by what an awesome game it was? Did you ever think that twenty some years later kids would be controlling the very same character as a train engineer? Sigh. Zelda has been teetering on the fence for a while now, and if this thing is true, I am pretty sure it just fell off on the wrong side. Too bad.

I really liked that last paragraph about the consistency of the characters. I have always felt that exact same way. So many things twisted and turned to fit the moment. As a result, just about every character turns out to be some kind of extreme asshole or another somewhere along the line. One minor example is, Dwalla is totally into Billy, then she brushes him off for Lee, then he dies and she shrugs it off, almost like "Well, now that my ex-boyfriend is gone, I can go after this new guy guilt free", then they get married, and Lee cheats on her with Starbuck, then they break up, then they start to get back together and she splatters herself all over her locker.

All these sharp turns took place just to serve the episode in which they took place, almost as an after thought. Consistency was sorely lacking throughout.

Don't act all hurt about it.

Notice how the original blogger that you quoted left a link to Topless Robot, the place where he took the picture from? He did that for a reason, not just so people could go there and check out the other customized ponies, but because it is appropriate.

That said, I do enjoy the stuff you post. They are pretty funny.

It isn't necessarily illegal (though it can be), but it is certainly frowned upon. Especially if someone just goes around making posts that are all plagiarized from someone else, giving the impression that he is the author. When you do something like that it is appropriate to cite a source. Not aiming this at Dangerous Incorporated (for all I know, he could be the blogger at /film, though probably not), but the whole typical lack of citation is an example of how the internet is turning everyone into Neanderthals. Suddenly everyone is a journalist with their own blog page or whatever other fancy names they give them, and they feel free to rip off the ideas of others and claim them as their own, or at least not claim anything of them and allow reader's to assume they are their own.

I remember in Sluggo's SW Valetine contest a few years ago, a contestant came up with some really well thought out Valetines, which it turned out he stole from another site. When someone pointed it out, he calmly replied, "The rules never said it had to be your own work, so they still count as my entries". Pah! Stuff like that shouldn't have to be explained. Neanderthals. I swear, evolutionary regression has begun.

Abrams is Destroying Star Trek like Lucas has Destroyed Star Wars
Time

Look, if I see a fist coming at my face with great speed, I am going to flich and say, "Ah crap! This is gonna hurt." Am I jumping to a premature conclusion? I guess you could say I am. But in the end it is the right conclusion. A fist to the face doesn't feel good, and neither does watching something you love be drug through the mud and abused.

All the guys saying, "Ah, hell, you haven't even seen the film yet! At least give it a chance!" seem to be the ones who says, "I am not really that big of a Trek fan, but I might go see this..."

Look around, it is all the guys who actually like Star Trek who are flinching and getting ready for the pain. This new movie is Star Trek without its fans, and what is anything without fans? It is nothing.

Imagine your favorite sports team going to play against another big sports team in the other teams hometown. Your favorite team decides they can make more money if they lose, because there are more non fans in the audience than fans, so they agree to go out there and loose for the sake of more money. You as a fan would probably feel a bit pissed at your team for this, right?

Well that is exactly what this new Trek is doing, it is like they decided,'Sure we have a lot of fans, but we realized that there are far more non-Star Trek fans out there than Star Trek fans. So we are going to forget about the fans, and make a movie everyone else will, like... well, not "like" per se, but will be willing to pay a ticket price to go see it once and maybe even buy the DVD to see a couple of times before forgetting about it forever...'

I have no doubt it will be a wonderful smack-you-in-the-ass-and-nick-name-you-Bernie kind of fantastic sci-fi adventure flick, and it will likely help sell a lot of Apple products, but it wont be a Star Trek film, not really anyway.

Lol, remember back before Kingdom of the Crystal Skull came out? A bunch of us were dogging on it, and then some other posters came along and pointed out how ridiculous we were being to rag on a film we had never seen... did anyone actually think IJATKOTCS was a good film? Anyone?

JasonN's PT FanEdits (Attack of the Federation, Twilight of the Republic, & The Black Knight Rises) (Released) ** Revised V3 Cuts In The Works

AxiaEuxine said:

I just wish someone who actually LIKED the prequels would do an edit. I would if I had the time, talent, resources, patience blah blah blah

I hate to be the one to ask this, but someone has to: What would be the point? If you like them as they are, why make a fan edit?

And now to sort of contradict my above sentence, I suppose that anyone who actually takes the time and effort to make a fanedit, obviously likes the film well enough. Any edits I have done have always been of films I absolutely loved, but felt could benefit from an addition of a deleted scene here, and the removal of a poorly delivered line there. I tried to make my own PT edits, but after much wasted time, I gave up because I realized my heart wasn't in it, I simply didn't give a damn about the PT. No amount of editing would make me dislike it any less.

As someone who has done some editing in the past, I can say that for JasonN to have taken all the time and effort to do what he is doing, he clearly really loves these films, and wants them to work. I suppose it is kind of like a child, you love them, and you really want them to succeed in life, and when they do stupid things to screw themselves up, it breaks your heart and you want to do everything in your power to set them on the right path.

Realistically, the PT is a colossal mess, it contradicts itself and never takes itself seriously enough for anyone watching it to take it seriously. It has some great moments, but it pisses on those with poorly planned and abandoned and reworked plot points. If you don't think about it too much, the movies are good enough, but when you really start paying attention to the story, and the things the characters are saying, it is all nuts! I killed them all, even the women and the children. That is okay Anakin, you are only human. Anakin was... killing younglings. No, he'd never do anything like that. Sigh. Nothing meshes, nothing fits together. The PT doesn't even work as a trilogy on its own, let alone a six movie saga with the OT.

Good luck to anyone like JasonN who tries to straighten out such a mess. He is clearly a bigger PT fan than most of those who claim to love them uncondictionally. I am not one to care for PT edits, but I will be looking after this one with great interest.

JasonN, sorry for temporarily hijacking your thread. Now back to our regularly scheduled topic...

Return of the Jedi: the worst OT film?

CO said:

I have seen the movies hundreds of times in my life, but since '04, I just get pissed off when I pop them in.  Either I can watch a high quality transfer on DVD and get annoyed with all the stupid changes, or see the versions I truly love in a blurry, grainy quality.  Either way, I get annoyed!!!!

Me too actually. It is not that I ever made a concious decision not to watch them anymore, but I just can't find the desire too. I wouldn't dream of putting in the SE, because like you they piss me off. And while the GOUT looks okay on my small screen, I just haven't felt like watching them on the small screen. My parents have this massive projection TV in their basement. Everytime I visit I make a point to watch at least one movie on that big screen. One time I poped in the GOUT and started to watch it, but it looked so awful, I ejected it before the Tantive IV scene was even over and decided to watch my old non-anamorphic widescreen Planet of the Apes instead. Somehow it still looked pretty good on the big TV, despite being non-anamorphic. Just shows how awful the GOUT really is.

The next time I watch any SW film, it will be when I can actually enjoy it. If that day never comes, then so be it. Kind of silly, since I have been watching it in VHS quality all my life. But we get used to things. VHS used to be the standard, for the average guy, it was the best quality there was. Now we are spoiled with DVD. Just try going back and watching a VHS tape now, the quality is awful, because we are so used to the clearity of DVD. By watching the GOUT, I am actually watching it in better quality than I have been all my life, but now that I am used to seeing other films in so much higher quality, it really looks unbearably awful.

- Luke throwing down his lightsaber in defiance to the Emperor " I am a Jedi" blah blah you know the rest....

- Vaders funeral pyre (close to the binary sunset in my opinion)

Those two bits are in my top five favorite scenes from any SW film. It are scenes like that that keep me from really being able to talk this movie down. I feel like I should hate it for its flaws, but some things in it are so over the top amazingly punch-you-in-the-face-knock-you-out-cold-and-take-your-wallet wonderful, I just can't help but love the thing. If only the PT could have managed any moments like those...
