Top 100 - best of post-1983 SW
Time

24) Seven dollar fully retractable lightsabers with belt clips from Hasbro that hit stores in the late 90's early 00's. Durable and cheap. Beat the crap out of them dueling with friends and the only thing that gets broken are you fingers, if one does happen to break, dish out another meager seven bucks and your good to go. Looks great retracted, not a replica by any means, but still pretty cool. And they have a freakin belt clip!!!

25) Tie Fighter.

26) Dark Forces.

27) Rogue Squdron 1-3.

This thread is an olive branch to Darth Axia. She's not nearly as strident or irritating as other Lucasites, so I'd like for us to post 100 different enjoyable post-1983 Star Wars items in tribute.

I agree, Axia cannot even be compared in the slightest to many of the obsessive Lucas apologists we have had come our way over the lifetime of this site.

We could make a television show featuring Axia and Go-Mer-Tonic taking on the basher community. It'd be like The Avengers. Except exceedingly dumber.

That would be awesome! I'd totally watch. But remember, I gave Gomer his very own talk show thread, and he just up and left the site. I wonder what the chances are that we could get him to co-host this thing? The two would make a perfect duo!

There was nothing all that negative about TheBoost's original post. He made a good point.

It is kind of exhusting that 99.9% of all your posts are complaints about us.

Can you really find everything about Star Wars and LFL throughout the ages so mind numbingly amazing?

Even the most avid fans of the PT could easily agree with TheBoost original post. Sometimes it feels that you are just trying to make a counter culture here disagreeing with everything said against SW in anyway. Making everything people complain about out to be something that is in reality spectacular.

Rest assured, there is no need to do that. There are enough unconditional SW fans out there already. Trust me, breaths of fresh air are good for you.

For Sale: Star Wars figures, 1995 - 1998, mass quantity to get rid of...
Time

Alright, like many of us, I was so excited to see Star Wars products back on store shelves in the mid nineties, that I went nuts and bought a zillion of them. I had always looked with envious eyes on those who had kept their original SW figures mint in the package, so I decided to make myself a grand collection of the new series of figures. Now I have a huge box full of them being stored in my parents basement. My mom is nagging me to get rid of them, and my wife is begging me not to bring them home with us. Soooo…

Anyone interested in any of these?

I think I have just about all, if not all, of the Power of the Force II orange carded figures (i.e. the “buff” series of figures, where everyone looks like they are from Wrestle Mania). I even have many of the variants of the orange carded figures (Hoth Han with open hand, Boba Fett with half circles on his gloves instead of whole circles).

I have the whole series of Shadows of the Empire figures (purple card). And I have a TON of the green carded figures. As well as many ships mint and unopened in their original boxes.

All these figures are in mint in package, and most of their packages are in perfect condition.

If anyone is interested, I’ll post a list of everything I have, along with prices (which are definitely negotiable, I want to get rid of these). Anybody interested in getting a decent sized OT collection going, here is a great chance.

Discussion: Little Men, Little Wars - Share Your Star Wars Collection
Time

Amanaman and EVE-9D9 are quite rare. They are not from the Return of the Jedi collection, but from the original Power of the Force collection.

Nice collection doubleofive! They all look like they are in very decent condition. I have the full Star Wars collection, and all of the Empire Strikes Back collection minus the black Cloud City security guy. You have several Return of the Jedi figures I don't have, and I also only have a small handful of Power of the Force figures.

I must say though, you figures look fantastic, best I can tell from the pictures. Many of my are loose and missing most of their accessories. My mom was one of the garage sale moms, she didn't like to spend the money on new stuff, so many, but not all, of my figures were second hand by the time I got them. I didn't mind, because unlike my friends who got one or two carded figures for their birthdays, I'd get a shoe box with five or six used figures in it!

All my ships, with the lone exception of my beautiful Snowspeeder, are beat to pieces and missing almost everything they could possibly be missing.

My Ewok village is in pretty good shape, but my Death Star, which I got brand new, has been played with, put together and taken apart, and knocked over to simulate being blow up so many times, that it is pretty useless these days. Honestly, that was my favorite toy ever. I don't think there was a single toy I ever played with as much as that Death Star.

Watchmen Film
Time

The whole thing just works a lot better as a bunch of panels of artwork and writing than it does as live action film.

Anybody see Tales of the Black Freighter yet? Not that the story is all that spectacular, and doesn't mean a whole lot outside the context of the film, but I think they did a fantasic job on the thing. I am looking forward to seeing the "extendeder" cut of Watchmen to see how they fit it into the movie.

Because he is a creepy pedo with such a deep desire for some young Link to call his own, he managed to find a way to travel between timelines. So he can stalk every Link throughout history, with hopes that he can get them alone in a room or alley with him, so he can show them his hot air ballon... or whatever it is he is always floating on.

Though in Windwaker Link gets that stupid green GameBoy Advanced called a Tingle Locator (why does that sound somewhat dirty?) or something like that.

Tingle Tuner? Something like that... I've never played Wind Waker beyond the 20-minute demo I have on my Collector's Edition disc. Though Tingle has always creeped me out. Some 40-something year old who wants a fairy? And so he dresses up like Link? If that's not creepy, then I don't know what is.

That's the one! Still sounds kind of dirty. I beat the first few dungeons of Wind Waker, and then I got caught up in playing something else, and just never made it bad. I really liked the game though, wasn't half bad at all.

Tingle defines creepy. I am glade it took them until Majora's Mask to come up with him, since they have decided he seems to belong in every game from then on. Don't get the appeal of such a character, but he was pupular enough to get a few spin off games of his very own.

What I don't get is the "my world is coming to an end" mentality and the "Star Trek is being destroyed - the director must be punished" venom.  It's one film out of eleven - not the end of Star Trek.

I think it is really just one poster who is exhibiting the "my world is coming ot an end" mentality. I am with you, I really don't get it either, but it doesn't really bother me if others exhibit it. The rest of us, like FF and I and many others are pretty grounded in reality, we're just saying that it looks pretty bad and we are disappointed with the new direction. Despite my complaints here, I am not shedding any tears over this or losing a single wink of sleep over it. To me this is the same difference as them not even making a new Trek film, which if something I am fine with. But that does't stop me from agreeing with, or pipping in to add my two cents to others ST discussion. Just talking here, no harm done, except for Hunter, I am pretty sure sooner or later his head is going to explode from some new trailer or new tidbit of information about the film they release.

Until then, call me a masochist for negativity but I actually kind of enjoy reading his posts. In fact, I really think he should start a youtube show featuring him ranting about the new film and J.J. Abrams. It could be kind of a new angry nintendo nerd ripoff. I'd watch.

Man, you have to make peace with that. Raging against the director, the story, the studio, the actors, etc - it does absolutely nothing.  It won't affect the box office, it won't change the minds of fans or potential fans, and it won't steer the franchise.

I agree with you 100%, I really do. But just curious, if you had like minded friends (maybe you did) who you could lament with back when Empire Strikes Back came out and wasn't to you liking, and then later when ROTJ came out, wouldn't you have?

I agree Hunter goes quite a bit over the top in his frantic condemnation of the new film. But I certainly don't see anything wrong with a few dorks venting off some frustration at something they love taking a wrong turn. It is not that anyone thinks the new movie will ruin the last forty years, obviously those are set in stone and untouchable, it is just an outlet of disappointment among a few like minded fans.

Hmm, interesting quotes. But I am pretty sure the guy is dead wrong. If I am right with my own theories of the show, then Faraday and Mrs. Hawking are not 100% wrong in his "if it didn't happen, it can't happen".

I think the writers meant it when they said Mrs. Hawkings rules of time travel are the rule they themselves will follow, and I am pretty sure they are still following that rule too (with the exception of Desmond's memory of Daniel popping into existence). They cited Heroes as an example of what a confusing mess things can become when time travelers are allowed to muck with everything, and they wanted to avoid this sort of thing themselves.

Daniel explained himself right before taking a deep breath and knocking on the door to the Swan that Desmond seemed to be different suggesting that the rule did not apply to him. Desmond has something special about him, and I might even go as far as to say that Widmore may have intentionally deployed Des on the island so that he could change the rules (if you remember last season, Ben was quite pissed at this changing of the rules). Keep in mind, no Desmond on the island, no Penny searching for it and finding it, and no Charlie opening up communications and allowing the freighter to find the island, which ultimately would mean no Keamy coming to the island and blowing a hole in Ben's adopted daughter.

I am willing to bet little Ben has not taken his last breath, and that a certain spinal surgeon is about to out himself as the workman he is not. And I am even more willing to bet that Benjamin Linus will grow up remembering the man who shot him, and the man who killed him. He has been pretty harsh on Sayid, because he tried to kill him, and he has always really liked Jack, and had confidence Jack could remove his tumor and knew he wouldn't let him die, because he didn't let him die when he was a kid.

Crazy? Absolutely, and that is why we love it so much.

That last episode was awesomness! I called the ending the minute Sayid said he now knew why he returned to the island, it is exactly the way I would have written it myself (if I were privillaged enough to write for such a show).

This season has been great. The closest thing to a perfect run they have had so far. If they can just keep it up for the last few episodes...

Wow, that would be pretty sweet. The song could start off with singing, [opera voice]"Ouch! My limbs! You stupid son of a bitch, you cut off my limbs! I thought you were my brother, but I think you slept with my wife and now you cut off my limbs! Help! Now I am on fire! I hate you so much![/opera voice] Actually, it would be a duet with Obi-Wan singing things like, "I loved you! Why? Why? Why? Oh my brother Anakin why! You were the choosen one! You were my brother! You were my best friend! I loved you! Why!"

Anyone who doesn't see how this could be pure gold, and put Star Wars back on the map as something unique and beautiful is completely void of any artistic taste whatsoever! I say we start a new petition to have ROTS remade for Broadway.

It would have to end with him making the decree that all girls born in the Kingdom would be named Zelda. Perhaps the game can end on an up beat with some oracles or sage telling him that he will not be able to wake his sister, but that one day a hero will rise who will. It could be a great segway into Link's legend, maybe explain why so many kids are named Link. Maybe the prophecy about the original Zelda's awakening mentions that it will be by a hero named Link. It would also tie Link more closely into the legend.

Originally, the events of the legend happed, then some generations later along came Link. At that point there was only one Link. Since then we have had A Link to the Past that was a prequel to the original, and Ocarina of Time, which was aprequel to A Link to the Past. And now even more games that take place before the awakening of the original sleeping Zelda. A game relating to the original legend and explaining that there will be a hero named Link would contribute to  legitimizing so many different Link's over the years.

It is kind of interesting to think that through the majority of Zelda games, there is the original sleeping Zelda locked away somewhere.Obviously they don't have any interest on revisiting this part of the legend, or they would have done so by now.

Now they would rather just have Link conducting trains.

LOL, I like your Barbie comparison Gaffer. It does feel that way. Steamboat Link™, Train Conductor Link™, Rock Super Star Link™, My Little Epona and Happy Trails Link™.

Oh yeah, in Majora's Mask, Zora Link and his electric fish bone guitar was another anachronism that really got to me.

Seems like it is always the side quest games that really go nuts with this. Though in Windwaker Link gets that stupid green GameBoy Advanced called a Tingle Locator (why does that sound somewhat dirty?) or something like that.

I know it is "explained" in the instruction manual, but it is hardly explained. Essentially, this is the "lengend of Zelda" itself, this is the reason all girls born in the royal family are named Zelda (confusing no doubt) and all it gets in the series is a few pages in an instruction manual.

Why not make a game where you play the prince for example. You could start off wanting to be a hero, going around doing good things. Then meet the evil wizard, who you think is good. He fools you into thinking you have to find out about the triforce in order to defeat a great evil, and since you sister wont tell you the secrets of the triforce, you allow the wizard to use a harmless spell to get it out of her. Then after the spell is cast on her and you realize the wizard only wanted your help to gain control of the triforce yourself, you embark on the games main quest, to find a way to awaken your sister by breaking the spell.

Usually Zelda games have a beginning quest where you have to collect a number of item to get to the main quest (Link to the Past, the pendants; Ocarina of Time, the stones from the three temples) after which some events take place upping the stakes and starting you on a new much larger quest (A Link to the Past, Zelda is taken and the portal to the darkworld is opened; Ocarina of Time, you enter the temple of time as a kid and wake up as an adult). In this one, this game the part where you meet the wizard would be in your first small quest, then after Zelda fall under the spell the larger quest would begin.

Something like this would work, and would help answer some of those untouched questions, or at least elaborate on lore that has only been backstory until now (like how Ocarina of Time was essentially the backstory we read all those years before in A Link to the Past's instruction manual and cutscenes. It was really cool to see what was only backstory before unfold in front of your eyes with you as the player).
