Secret Star Wars Production Shooting in Hollywood - for Star Tours

And C3PX, they made changes to POTC long before the movies came along. Notice the women being chased by pirates are holding food now? Because it wasn't PC for them to be chasing after wenches anymore! They're after the food now! One of the other pirate's racy lament about a certain woman in red is gone too.

Adding three Jack Sparrow figures to scenes in the ride is hardly ruining it. And nobody misses the buttless pirates added in the 80's(?) in what was originally an empty spot at the end of the ride anyway.

At least these rides are still around! Some of my faves are gone forever. Journey Through Inner Space, (the first DL ride I remember going on in 1971, replaced by Star Tours) and the People Mover that once passed over the ST area, where a Stormtrooper took aim at you from the shadows. They put in a freaking pizza joint where the Moon/Mars rocket ride once was. And don't get me started on Captain Eo! :P

At least they brought the subs back, albeit with a Finding Nemo theme.

I know all about the previous changes, but changing the pirate dialogue and making the winches carry food were pretty subtle. There were many more changes than that even. It has changed a lot over the years. Like I said, it isn't like Jack is in just one scene, he is all over the place in his bright red bandana. You even hear him talk. He has now become the focal point of the whole ride. The ride was big enouhgh before to spawn a movie, why do they feel the need to recon it with movie characters to increase its popularity?

I remember the people mover and the Stormtrooper in the shadows. Wow, I remember hearing they shut down the sub, didn't know they brought it back with the Nemo theme. The days of Disneyland having rides that are not based off of movies is quickly fading away looks like.

Yeah, I saw that now. I was just a few minutes before the end when I made that post. The Gollum model the guy had actually looked pretty decent. Not sure why the scene where Gollum's head pops out of the bag looked so awful.

that was a cool movie though, i'm surprised. lets do a movie all about yoda! wouldn't that be neat? :)

I cannot stress how very much it wouldn't.

They could do it, sure, but my thoughts in that they wont. Because the people talented enough don't bother with SW. And I don't blame them. The market is so saturated with SW. Seven movies, a TV series, and a million already pre-existing fanfilms. If someone was going to make a halfway decent fan film by now, they would have done so already.

I for one couldn't care less about seeing an SW fan film, no matter how good it is.

I am watching the The Hunt for Gollum right now, and as someone who is not a fan of nerdy obsessive fan made fan films, I have to say this is THE best fan film I have every seen, and ever expect to see. There were actually moments when I forgot I was watching a fan film (and of course others that completely reminded me I was). Gollum was well done, but not well enough done where they ever showed his face, just distance shots and the back of his head. One very breif frame where they do show is face (when his head pops out of Aragorns bag), it was very obviously a shot from one of the LOTR films, and it looked really odd and out of place.

i just hate the corny acting and poor effects.

From my personal experience, that is all fan films ever are. I have never seen a fan film that was really worth anything. They all make amusing little pieces that fit nicely in with the typical youtube tripe, but never anything beyond that. Quite honestly, all the guy with any real talent are off making their own films based on original ideas.

Star Trek Phase II really proves my point. They try really hard, obviously have a budget, even managed to somehow get Paramount's blessing in the whole thing, even have guest stars that are real actors from the original series, and yet, the things are unwatchable! They are absolutely awful. If you wanted to torture me for information, the quickest way to do so would probably be to tie me in a chair in front of a monitor playing ST Phase II, and force my eyes open, and make me watch the things for more than ten minutes. I'd be spilling out my deepest darkest secrets, betraying my friends, family, and country, and begging for a sharp object so I could cut a few of my arteries and put an end to it all.

I'm not really interested because you know Boba's going to sound like Jango Fett and not the pre 2004 real boba fett voice by Paul Wingreen.

Wow, I hadn't even thought of that!

This whole thing kind of sucks. My two favorite Disney Land rides when I was a kid were Pirates of the Caribbean and Star Tours. For some reason I failed to realize that nothing lasts forever, and I always kind of thought I'd someday get a chance to take my children on those rides. A few years back they decided they needed to liter the Pirates of the Caribbean ride with likenesses of Johnny Depp, and not just a cameo appearance (which would have been fine), but literally making the whole thing sort of revolve around him, including him in every single scene (if that is the right word) of the ride.

Now the old Star Tours will be completely gone too, replaced with a completely different video. Oh well. My kids never need to go to Disney Land anyway, Disney is evil.

You know, 3PX, you've really been giving me the business over the past 24 hours!  Might want to look into that... =P

All in good fun, Don Gaffer, all in good fun. Soooo, you ready to accept the inevitable and take your place at my side as consigliere? Or shall I offer the post to DF?

Actually Pan's Labyrinth kind of has an up ending. It is a pretty good movie, and the DVD does actually have an English dub of the film, not sure how good it is though.

I have yet to see Devil's Backbone. I like Del Toro. I am glade he is doing The Hobbit, though I really hope they match PJ's The Lord of the Rings to a fair degree. But even if it doesn't, it is not that big of a deal, in many ways the actual book The Hobbit has a completely different tone and feel to it from LOTRs.

Wow, that is actually kind of impressive. The guy who plays Gandalf sounds like he is trying to hard. But my goodness, that guy who play Aragorn looks a good deal like Viggo Mortensen. And for a fan film, those Orcs look damn good. I am please to see it comes out tomorrow! I shall most definitely be giving it my 40 minutes.

Thanks for the heads up rcb.

So hear I made a completely OT friendly thread and somehow you all mangaed to make it a prequel hating thread. Now talk about my cards and stop the hating or else!!!!

Ha!  See, C3PX?!  A complaint!  You'd be hard pressed to call that anything but a complaint!

Although... I'm not sure how any of this was a prequel hating thread.  It got derailed into mafioso alpha male and Dragon Ball (both of which were a good deal my fault), but I don't recall any prequel bashing happening.

Exactly! It was most definitely a complaint, but it wasn't a complaint about us! You must have missed a couple of posts Don Gaff (right there on top of things, just like any good Don ought to be). It was a complaint about vaderisnohayden's prequel bashing.

EDIT: Oops, just to set the record stright, I went back and discovered that I was the one who inadvertantly intoduced the PT hate into this thread, not vaderisnohayden. I mentioned vinh's negativity, which in turn brought sky into the mix to defend him and rip the PT a couple of times in the process. Sorry about that.

Transformers to me represents the zeitgeist of our era, despite being hardly a good film.

Really? I don't know. I have never seen it, nor have I any interest in seeing it. And all my friends who have seen it have basically told me to give it a skip. To me it looks nothing more than your typical summer blockbuster, and carries no more or no less hype than typical. I think zeitgeist may be a little exteme of a word to use. The summer blockbuster has been around forever, and will continue to be.

No, what Dark Father throws around is mostly just humorous musings.

In your case it isn't just simple criticism, and I know you are in the majority around here, as I'd actually usually tend to agree with your negative comments for the most part regarding the PT, EU, and the general states of SW fandom. But your brand of negativity is just so heavy handed and out there and repetitive, it even brings me down. I have generally been one of the one accused of being too harsh and negative toward the PT.

I mean just check out post #10 of this thread, it was all light hearted and happy in here, and studdenly your post comes along.

At any rate, you obviously seem to have some issues with DF. And that is great. I support you in your issue taking, not wanting to sound like I am trying to play mod here, but why not try to keep the little thing between you two confined to whatever thread it started in. The last thing the rest of us want to see is this popping up in every thread the both of you post in.
