LOST
Time

Dude, have you ever even watched the show? I admit it isn't for everyone, and it suffers from more than its fair share of pointless filler type episodes, but when it hits the mark, it really hits it hard. Episodes like The Constant are some of the best sci-fi I have seen in years. Sci-fi is something that, IMHO has been pretty much dead for the last decade or so. It is really rare to find anything in that genre worth watching, so to me, Lost is quite a treat. I still say it is the best sci-fi show since X-Files' early seasons (not to say there wasn't some great stuff between the lifespans of those two shows, such as Life on Mars (the real one, not the worthless US remake) and Firefly).

That said, this season will make or break it as a whole. If this season fails to satisfy, then the entire series won't be worth a whole lot. If this season can pull it off, then it will be a series worth recommending to future generations. If not, then it will, unfortunately, end up being just another TV show better off forgotten.

With our current TV market saturated with the most worthless sitcoms (serious, name ONE genuinely good and funny one), reality TV shows, and about a zillion crime dramas all featuring increasingly longer acronyms for names (all of which rehash the same tired formula night after night), and it is always the sci-fi shows that people are the quickest to piss on. Ironically, it is usually sci-fi fans who are so quick to piss on them, while they are more than happy to give NCISJAGNYPD and all the other nonesense on there a pass.

Sci-fi has a long history of not being taken seriously by the general population. While, often times, sci-fi is a great vehicle for touching on some very deep topics in ways a realistic story would have a very hard time doing. Finally we have reached a point where the value is being seen in sci-fi. When Lost took its swift turn toward straight sci-fi in season two, it lost a lot of viewers. But it is still pretty cool that a sci-fi series can be given as much credit and attention as Lost has gotten over the years.

I don't think the comparison to Indiana Jones and the Aliens is very fair. Sure, Indiana Jones always had sci-fi elements to it, but it was its own brand of sci-fi, voodoo curses and mystic artifacts. Introducing aliens too it felt really out of place. And honestly, the aliens would have been just fine, if the rest of the movie would have been worth watching. But as it is, IJATKOTCS sucked through and through.

That is a pretty nice rhindstone suit she is wearing. Still, I can't lay my finger on it, but there is something kind of off about it... it just doesn't look right. Wait a minite! That isn't a rhinestone suit! Those are definitely fake rhindstones! Look at it, it is pretty obvious, the rhinestone are just drawn onto her suit! I think that warrants probation, Fink. Not too mention, he is one topic behind...

You might think it's impossible for a really thin girl to have huge breasts and a huge ass. You'd be thinking wrong.

Anyone who thinks that way, has clearly never been to Japan.

I just don't see it.

I don't agree, C3PX, but I can see where others "wouldn't see it" in Megan Fox. But Angelina Jolie? That blows my mind. Angelina Jolie is one woman I thought would have come through this list unscathed.

I actually find Angelina Jolie kind of gross, in a white trash sort of way (can't say exactly why). I don't know what it is about her, but I find her quite the opposite of sexually appealing.

I just don't see it.

Another one it seems like every man finds the epitome of hot, and yet I just don't see it.

Really don't see this one! I am not sure where the whole comparison between her and a foot originated (Family Guy, maybe?), but I have to admit, there is something very footlike about her. However, plenty of guys thing she is incredible hot.

Real life friends here?
Time

This is sort of in the same line of thought as this topic.

Have you guys ever thought how weird it would be to discover one of your fellow posters on OT.com turned out to be someone you know in real life? I'd probably end up being someone you don't get along with on the boards at all, even though your great friends in real life.

I've always just found this as something humorous to ponder.

FRIEND: Dude, you're a Star Wars fan, should check out this forum I post at. Originaltrilogy.com, it's pretty sweet.

ME: Whoa! I am a regular there already! That is awesome! Who are you? My user name is C3PX.

FRIEND: Why you... piece of shit! You are such a jerk! All this time it's been you! I've often dreamed at night of what I'd do if I ever met that bastard C3PX in real life... now we're going to find out...

ME: Uh oh... dude, put the bat down! You don't need that! Put it--

And now I'm very curious as to what your post said before you edited it...

Ah, then allow when to indulge your curiosity, my dear fellow.

Look at the post times of my post and of bkev's post. I originallly just said, "Now that wasn't very nice." with the intention of it being posted directly under your post. But after I clicked post, I realized that bkev beat me, and that now my post was after his, making it appear as if I was saying, "Now that wasn't very nice." to bkev and not to you. So, in order to prevent people from thinking that I was somehow calling bkev's video "not very nice" rather than saying that your post was not very nice, I clicked edit and added "Gaff" to my post, effectively changing it from "Now that wasn't very nice." to "Now Gaff, that wasn't very nice." I feel this added more clarity to my post and would avoid potential confusion, which was part of my original vision for the post, only at the time of making it, the technology didn't exist. So, in other words, if you want that original post, the one you grew up with, it no longer exists, but it is on VHS if you want it that bad.

You know the drill - 24 hours to explain how "KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN" relates to crop circles.  I'm looking forward to this.

I actually said "KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!" not "KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN". (Hehe, my Khan is longer than yours!)

As far as explanations go... uh... well... you see... ah, yes, aliens make crop circles right? And Khan was an alien! Okay, so actually he was an augmented human being, but that is close enough. Plus, I am not so sure aliens make crop circles, I have had long suspicions in my mind that crops circles are the result of eugenically modified humans. Ha! Eat that Hall of Shame! Eat. That.

So Frink, you just prooved two things the same time:

  1. The klingons leave a crop circle when landing
  2. you abuse of your autority by threatening with Hall of Shame when you know KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNN !!!! is in relation with the topic subject

Shame on you !

Dude, Klingons have nothing to do with Khan, other than being from the same fictional universe.

Darth Solo's movie i seen last night opinion, be it an old or new filum.

Darth Solo said:

PS. Whoever quotes 'filum' terminology here, be an arsehead. And i already call my response of "i expected that reply" in advance of the all clowns responceses, as im tring to be kinda being serious for once.

D'ah! I was about to make a fun arsehead responceses about the last time I saw a filum being in my university biology class, and even then only being a picture of a filum, but then I read this post scripted bit under the heading "etiquette"...

Not gonna lie to ya, this thread is more than a little intimidating, what with coming complete with a syllabus and all. But I really do appreciate the effort of generating a deeper level of discussion. Since I just happened to watch a film last night, and probably won't offer myself that luxury again within the next few weeks, I'll seize this window of opportunity and give it a go with as little clownishness as possible.

(1) A Clockwork Orange.

(2) Buddy of mine had never seen a single Stanley Kubrick film before, and last night we decided to rectify that. Out of the options Dr. Strangelove, Full Metal Jacket, and A Clockwork Orange, he chose A Clockwork Orange.

(3) Watching it again for the first time after after many years made me reevaluate why I like it so much. It is weird, extremely violent, and all in all not all that pleasant to watch. It is filled with some pretty ridiculous and cheese ball stuff too, both a sign of its age, and Kubrick's quirkiness. After it was over, my friend's first response was, "That was really good." Ultimately what makes the film is the themes it examines (not to down play how impressive the film is aesthetically). Rehabilitation, conditioning, youthful deliquesce, etc.

(4) I have always had a hard time giving numeric ratings to things. They never feel genuine, because I can easily see myself assigning a different number from one day to the next, depending on my current thought process. I also tend to feel tempted to give things I really like full marks, when in reality almost everything has room for improvement. A Clockwork Orange is really good at being what it is, the only case I can make against it is that I felt Kubrick should have included the book's final chapter, which touched on the theme of maturity, which really fit with the theme of not being able to treat something organic as if it were mechanical, and brought the whole thing to a great conclusion. 8/10

I read the whole thing. Geez you get defensive about your console. If it makes you feel better I will officially declare the PS3 the greatest invention of all time. I was just pointing out that is was more than "just a rumor" from the "Xbox fanboys".

I think you're just pissy because you tried to be clever in your reply to ady and instead you were shown to be wrong.

All I tried to do was show that these rumors originated from Sony, not "Xbox fanboys", and I think I demonstrated that quite well. If needed, I could link to plenty of other sources giving the exact same story...
