I'm just wondering if there's much to the fact that they focused on Some characters circa the flight but not others, ie: why Boon and not walt?

I'd think this would be pretty obvious. This is a TV show, and there are only so many elements within their control. It'd be hard (not to mention kind of lame) to find another actor that looks like the kid who played Walt did at that age, and they obviously can't use the same actor, as he is much older now (remember, this thing started back in 2004).

The reason they focused on Boone, was that they could get a hold of that actor (and it made a nice little moment where he tells Locke that if he were even in a survival situation, he'd want to stick around him). It would have been cool if they had brought back the entire season one and two cast. Would have loved to have seen Echo and Ana Lucia on the plane as well as many of the other characters we have long forgotten about, but it is understandable that they didn't.

There is also really no logical reason, that I can think of, why Shannon wouldn't be on the plane because of the destruction of the island, I am sure her absence had a lot to do with not being able/wanting to get the actress to come back, but they did a good job of using it as another way to show how things had changed this time.

Darth Solo's movie i seen last night opinion, be it an old or new filum.
Time

Again, I still haven't thought about it much. But if I did a little searching or mental straining (not gonna happen at this point in the week), I am sure I could think of a few more:

- The guy on Braveheart

- The two guy rapist on Pulp Fiction

- The only gay character on the TV show Lost turned out to be one of the bad guys, and a further kick in the teeth to the gay community is that he is not revealed to be gay until a guest appearance in a flashback after he had already been killed off as a regular.

- And if Rorschach's suspicions are correct (the movie portrayed him in a way obviously meant to confirm those suspicions), then Adrien Veidt/Ozzy Mandias from the Watchmen.

- Hayden's Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. ;)

Not to put fuel on the fire or anything, but I am still kind of leaning on VINH's side with this whole thing (aside from the expressed concern of potential British killings being inspired by Braveheart, I think that is a little extreme). But as for the whole gay thing, I see exactly what VINH is saying.

Just think of how many gay heroes you can think of in films? Any? Any at all? Maybe one or two? Now how many gay villians/bad guys/imbecile characters can you think of? I can think of a few without even straining my brain. If I were to take a little time to reflect on it, I am sure I could recall several others.

I don't think VINH is really doing much stretching at all to come to the conclusion he has come to. If we lived in a world where media was thriving with homosexual heroes and lead characters, or even supporting cast members who were of admirable character, then the whole "Not all gay people are good" argument would hold a good deal of water, but since we don't, and did even less so in the nineties when Braveheart was made, I think VINH stands on some pretty solid ground on this one.

What kind of talk is that? Yeah you do!

Threads at OT.com's off topic section don't go off topic, they come ALIVE! Darth Solo my friend, your thread is now a living, breathing entity, thriving of its own accord. You should be proud of it, like a new father of sorts. I am a regular here, and even I have an extremely hard time making threads that reach this level liveliness.

Be proud of your thread!

Meanwhile, we'll try to steer it back to the original topic... I hope. Personally, I consider it a miracle we are still even discussing filums.

I have to lean more on the side of VINH on this one. Obviously he was extremely offended by the things Mel Gibson said, and you have to admit, they were some pretty awful things; so when he see Mel Gibson, he thinks of the things he has said. So why would he want to watch a movie where he is going to stare at Mel Gibson for two hours, even if the movie is one of the best movies ever made (a distinction that doesn't really fit any film Gibson has ever been in or directed), negative feelings toward the actor would ruin the whole thing?

Personally, I feel the same way about some actors, fortunately, they are the types of actors who only play in overly popular Hollywood daily shit quality films, none of which I have ever been the slightest bit interested in seeing, and therefore never had to worry about their faces ruining an otherwise worthwhile film for me.

Casablanca is overrated. And underrated. At the same time.

I'm not sure I understand you.   Could you please elaborate?

I'd love to elaborate on it. Don't get me wrong, I really, really like Casablanca, if I had to write down a list of only ten movies that I'd be allowed to watch for the rest of my life, Casablanca would be on that list.

That said, I think the movie is overrated to a good degree. I think it just gets far more credit than any film deserves. It is elevated to the level that for someone to say they don't like it is almost blasphemous. To an extent, I think we are even at the point where proclaiming it one of the, if not the greatest film of all time is a prerequisite to being considered a true film geek. Sometime I wonder if half the people who "love it" don't do so simply because they feel they should, rather than because of their own honest objective viewing of the film. (Don't think I doubt that you genuinely like the movie, Warb. I've no doubt that you do).

On the opposite side of this, there are way too many people out there who have not seen this really great movie for no fair reason other than "Isn't that film like, really, really old?" which isn't a good enough reason in my book.

So, I think it is way overrated among certain circles; and unfortunately underrated (or, more accurately: unknown) to an unfortunate portion of the population.

Your ripping my tread to shit. I hope an appeal to not be serious have an adverse effect from here on in.

Dude, you can't talk about filums and jobbies and expect things to remain serious. Anyway, I feel very much less guilty now that you have asked us not to be serious anymore. ;)

Okay, sorry, well try to keep it on topic. I think.

Dude, it is a different culture from you that we live in. Yeah, it is nice you live in a country where you can see boobies on advertisements on the street. A good portion of the American population tends to be a bit sensitive on that matter. From two different perspectives too! On one side you have those who feel it is dirty and immoral, and on the exact opposite side you have those who feel it is horrible because it objectifies women.

Not all of us are that way, but the reason many of us feel the NSFW (Not Safe For Work) are important is because so many here browse this site on their computers while at work, and believe it or not, having a picture like the one you posted on your computer screen when the wrong person walks by and happens to see it can get you in a lot of trouble or even fired.

Bottom line is, that is why Fink asked you nicely to remove it. Please don't make a stink about this, you've been a lot of fun to have around and we have had some good laughs together. You really don't need to ignore Fink just to spite him for asking you to remove the picture. Let's just get over this and move on and continue enjoying the vertical force together... I think.

That is incredibly misogynistic you snatch merkin! Not to mention the fact that "you" is spelled y-o-u, and that "u" by itself is merely a meaningless letter.

Oh no! Now my inbox is being filled with angry PMs form my other personalities for having confessed that we are all socks!

That is pretty funny that VINH had figured out that I am Fink before I even admitted it. Smart feller.

Okay, now let's just forget about this whole strange affair and get back to discussin' filums so that this thread can continue to do its jobbie.

Discussion: Another... FAIL Star Wars Toys Review
Time

His final words in that review are, "How pathetic is this?" and I've got to agree, he is pretty freakin' pathetic.

My goodness, what a loser! I'd like the think the guy is making fun of himself, but sadly, I am pretty sure he is 100% genuine. Pretty humorous to watch though.

A long time ago, I was at a store and witnessed two 30 some year olds guys anxiously asking one of the employes if there were any more Hotwheels cars in the back because some new models had just been released that day or something along those lines. This older woman (in her 50s I'd guess) who had also overhead their request waited until they were out of earshot, then turned to me, shaking her head and said, "I once dated a guy who collected Hotwheels cars. It was pretty weird. Trust me, grown men who collect toys are not a turn on." I certainly didn't need her tell me that, but this poor youtube guy does.

Wow, I am thinking we've got some unrealistic expectations to deal with. They are just whispers of a weird and mysterious group of people who possess amazing strength and a strange ability to zip around very fast and silently.

If we didn't have the definitive answer for the whispers already, I am pretty sure they intended to drive away all doubt in the last episode where we hear the whispers and Jack bewilderdly watches all of his companions silently disappear before being nabbed by an "other" himself. If that isn't enough to convince us that the whispers in the jungle were the others all along, then I don't think anything will.

Well, I've never been one to over anaylize the show too much (though I have gotten caught up in speculation to a small degree in times past), so I can't really participate much in the current xhonzi/doubleo5 discussion, but I do have to say I really enjoyed this episode and I think I really like the direction it seems to be heading (which is the opposite of how I felt at the end of last seasons finale). Hopefully in a few weeks the newness of the season will wear off and I'll be able to lose enough interest in the show to not watch it for several weeks (happened the last couple of seasons) and I'll end up with a nice little backlog of episodes to catch up on over some weekend, I have always found the show far more enjoyable when you are able to consume it in larger chunks.

Watching one episode of Lost at a time feels much like eating just one M&M. It leaves a nice little taste in your mouth, but ultimately, it is unsatisfying and just leaves your mouth watering and craving for more. M&Ms just aren't worth it for less than a handful or a small bowl; the pleasure given by one little piece is far outweighed by the discomfort following not having anymore, but wanting more. I feel kind of the same way about Lost.

Only problem is, it is such a popular show and it generates so much discussion, you're likely to run into spoilers while waiting in line at the grocery store (this happened to me once last season, and once a few seasons ago as well; very annoying) or any number of other unsuspecting places where you find yourself in earshot of other human beings.

This little exchanged happened to me last season as well during a phone conversation with a friend:

FRIEND: Did you see the last episode of Lost.
ME: I haven't.
FRIEND: I can't believe they killed off Daniel.
ME: I said I HAVEN'T SEEN IT yet!
FRIEND: Oh, I thought you said you had. Sorry, I'm in the car, it is hard to hear.

Never too late to get into a TV show. The things aren't time stamped. Just get your hands on the season one DVDs/Blu-rays and get to watching.

As for the sitcoms you mentioned, I said genuinely good and funny. I like the first few seasons of the office, but it just got old and tired after a while. No real character progression, just more of the same really. Unfortunately, I sat through part of an episode of 30 Rock and I was beyond underwhelmed. Haven't even heard of the other two shows.

I am tempted to take that picture and put it in the Women you find ugly thread, but I am getting tired of looking at it.

Song suuuung bluuue! Everybody knows one! Song suuuung bluuue! Every garden grows one! Me and you are subject to the blues every now and then! But when you take the blues and make a song, you sing 'em out again! You sing 'em out again! Song suuuung bluuue! Weeping like a willow! Song suuuung bluuue! Sleeping on my pillow (oh yeah!) Funny thing but you can sing it with a cry in your voice! And before you know it you get to feelin' good! You simply got no choice!
