These stupid exclusive items kind of annoy me. It really isn't very fair. If I don't buy L4D2 via pre-order, then I never get to play with the baseball bat, or if I don't bend over backwards buying junk food or trading with people, I never get to play with these cool little bonus items on ME2.

Rogue Squadron on the N64 had an unlockable Naboo Fighter, it was a cool little bonus to discover months after the game was released. I imagine that if that came out today, the Naboo Fighter would be some exclusive pre-order DLC or something you have to pay $5 dollars for.

I guess they are nice little bonuses for the fans, not things you have to have to enjoy the game, but fun extras for those who want to go through the effort. But let's say some guy buys a 360 this time next year, plays Mass Effect, and becomes a HUGE fan of the series. He hears about these cool DLC things that he can never have, it would be pretty disappointing. I think it is kind of lame. They are turning something valueless that costs them nothing into bonuses that should supposedly carry some value.

Also, remember back when you'd get cool but worthless swag (like t-shirts, or posters) for pre-ordering games? At least it was something tangible back then. A lot better than my lame little extra multiplayer characters I got for pre-ordering BS2.

Okay, enough ranting. Tune in next week to hear me go off on achievements/trophies.

You're on the right track with the Orange Box and Bioshock. Being as those were the first two games you listed, I take it you are a shooter fan, so yeah, I'd definitely say go for Left 4 Dead or Left 4 Dead 2 (over all, I like L4D better, but L4D2 has some pretty cool additions). Those games are a lot of fun, but they really shine the most when you play them online with friends (I've had some fun games with strangers too), otherwise they wear thin pretty quick.

Arkham Asylum looks really awesome. I have still never played it, but I have only heard good things about it.

Braid is absolutely fantastic, a really fun change of pace.

Bioshock 2 was released today, I've just spent the last hour playing it and it definitely lives up to my own personally expectations. Of course, wouldn't recommend it until well after you beat the first one.

If you liked Resident Evil 4, then I'd definitely recommend Resident Evil 5. If you never played Resident Evil 4, then I'd highly recommend it.

It seems like these days Halo is equated with downing copious amounts of Bud Lite and going four wheeling (i.e. very redneck), for some reason. So, at the risk of sounding extremely low class, I actually really enjoyed Halo 3 and would recommend it. It feels a lot different from other shooters. Rather than just blasting through things, you often have to stop and plan out an attack strategy, otherwise you're doomed to fail again and again.

Fallout 3 has earned a permanent spot on my all time favorite list. I've gotten every achievement in that game, and yet there is still so much of it I haven't seen, so many characters my character has never met, and so many locations I have never discovered. The GOTY edition comes with all the expansions, which are definitely worth getting.

It used to shout from a loud speaker hidden in it's head until the blessed rains of Scotland that turned my backyard into a Paddy Field washed in and screwed up it's diabolical machinery.

That is ridiculous! A talking statue based on the fictionalized version of a real historical character, located at the real historical character's memorial. That is beyond wrong. Sounds like that hunk of crap is better suited for some comic convention some place.

Wow, that is pretty funny. I am going to refrain from asking your age at great self restrain, and try to help you as best I can. ;)

Where is the wax at in the pipe? Is it just in the bowl? Or did it makes its way into the stem? A lot of pipes have removable stems, if this is the case with your dad's pipe, I'd take the stem out. You could probably run the stem under hot water and get the wax to losen up, and maybe find something to run through the stem to use to floss it out. If the wax is in the bowl and the neck, it ought to be easy enough to use some object to scrape the wax out. If you need to loosen the wax up a bit, a hair dryer would do the trick (hair dryers work great for getting wax out of the carpet too).

Hmm, that sounds quite nice right now actually. Unfortunately, I smoked my last fag back in December and haven't bothered to purchase more since. Mmm, maybe I have a cigar or two stashed away someplace... or my lovely little pipe... or there is always the hookah... wow, for a guy who "doesn't really smoke" I sure have a lot of options lying around...

Hot Women That Just Don't Do It For You (This thread is worthless without pics)

Interestingly enough, at first glace I thought that was exactly what Octorox's new avatar was, only took a second for me to realize it wasn't, but it is funny Fink and I were thinking along the same lines. But then again, I am one of his socks, so it makes sense we'd think alike.

Anyway, where the hell did my topic go? Does this happen to every thread here? I don't feel like researching the matter, so someone give me the Cliff's Notes version.

Cliff's Notes has this to say on the topic of OT.com's Off-Topic section's off topic going tendancies:

Threads at OT.com's off topic section don't go off topic, they come ALIVE! Darth Solo my friend, your thread is now a living, breathing entity, thriving of its own accord. You should be proud of it, like a new father of sorts. I am a regular here, and even I have an extremely hard time making threads that reach this level liveliness.

Be proud of your thread!

I actually think this thread is doing pretty well at remaining on topic, relatively speaking, of course.

But to help things get back on track, Ali Larter doesn't really do it for me,

This has to do mainly with the bottom line that FC is a film with very good drama, acting and characters. It doesn't mesh well with the series, which is his main point, but the ST continuity is so constricted that I find the ones that deviate the most are the best because of this--they give a chance to re-invent and go with what works best for the drama, rather than honoring a million references in the hundreds of episodes that pre-date it.

His biggest gripes seemed to be about Picard's character, which is a very valid point. He is WAY out of character in all the films. Instead of the Earl Grey sipping, classic listening, diplomacy over violence, intellect over muscle character he is in the TV series, they have turned him into an action hero. And there are actually less than a handful of Borg episodes in the entire run of The Next Generation (I think there are six Borg episodes, if you count two part episodes as two episodes, and only four episodes if you don't), so you don't really have to dig through a whole lot of material to see how silly it is that Picard has suddenly grown an intense desire for revenge on the Borg after only a few years earlier he made a concious decision that it would be wrong to introduce a virus into the collective that would wipe them out.

His other major grip that I remember was how the away team wears era clothing and goes through all the trouble of blending in, while at the same time they don't shy away from bringing the weird android or flashing around space aged technology or even happily sharing stories with people about the future.

Wrath of Khan for example tosses aside most of the continuity of the series, and would be in RLM's terms "just an action movie." In fact, the entire introductory set-up involving Checkov doesn't make any sense, since the character didn't exist in the series during "Space Seed."

RLM actually spends a lot of time praising Wrath of Khan in his Nemesis review. I think he'd actually agree with you about the changes in continuity not being important in The Wrath of Khan because the other elements make up for it. You have to admit, Wrath of Khan has a lot more substance to it than any of the TNG films.

I still dont see why you guys are going on about the "humor" in this review.  We are here to discuss the Star Wars movies and ways to make them better.  Not here to discuss a fan edit of a hardly known, fan-made review of TPM.  Lets take his good points out of his review, and move them into dicussion on this thread.  Who cares about the other stuff.

If anything, we should all be glad he made this review, its a little step toward a potenial watchable edit of TPM.  ;)

Kind of ironic in the course of the years this forum has gone from "trying to preserve Star Wars how it originally was, flaws and all" to "trying to make Star Wars better".

Forgot some people were still on about making a watchable edit of TPM. Trust me, with the edits already available, it has gotten as watchable as it ever will. And even that is not enough for me to ever want to watch it again (and I have made it no secret that it is my absolute favorite PT film).

Stealing An Idea from Frink. Who is the Better Producer Lucas or Spielberg?
Time

Personally, I think Gene Wilder was the better producer, but that isn't to down play Zero Mostel's character, he is definitely a very close second. But come to think of it, I have never seen any of the live productions, so I can't comment on any of those actors. There was also Larry David and David Schwimmer, but that was more of a parody. And please, let's not even mention Mathew Broderik and Nathan Lane...
