It isn't that we only have to post in the SW or fanedit section, the off topic here is as good a place to discuss anything as anywhere else. Also, I have a friend who once fell over the side of the earth, it is a really depressing subject and I don't want to talk about it. I just hate when people try to claim the world is round, also all this crap about going to the moon and men orbiting the earth from space. All a bunch of crap.

Star Wars prequel film noir (* unfinished project *)

I don't think the video game footage would quite fit with the film. One of the ideas of this edit is to do away with as much cg as possible, adding in video game quality 3d models might not be headed down the right track. Of course, I myself have not seen the video games footage so I could be wrong. I was thinking, the novel of Revenge of the Sith by Matthew Stover is pretty good. It adds alot more inner monologue to Anakin and his reasoning of things. While it is pretty true to the film, it translates more realitically than the movie. All of Anakin's thoughts as he turns to the dark side are written out for us.

One example of this is when they are climbing through the elavator shaft Palpatine is afraid of falling and asks Anakin to give him his hand, which is what is holding Obi-wan while Palps hangs from his leg as Anakin hangs on to the shaft with his other hand. Anakin thinks to himself that the Chancellor must not be thinking clearly because all the stress and doesn't realize what he is asking Anakin to do by letting Obi-wan fall. While in the movie when Palpatine says leave him, he has been knocked unconscience and can't possibly survive, Anakin just says, no we are not leaving him, while the audience thinks what an idiot Anakin is for trusting and caring so much about a guy who would ask him to leave his slightly injured best friend/father figure for dead.

I bet some decent dialogue could be salvaged from the book. It is actually quite impressively written. To me it feels more like reading a classic rather than a sci-fi novel. And for me that is a big deal to say because I usually only read classics anymore and rarely ever read sci-fi. The language and explaination Stover using is for the most part fantastic. At points it falls short due to the fact that it is based off one of the worst screenplays ever written, and also sometimes he tries to put in some odd humor that just doesn't fit.

Actually, I was thinking of writing something to the same effect, but decided against it. You seem quite confident that there is no chance of a God existing and anyone who thinks differently is a moron. I am of the belief that there is no way to 100% prove the existence or non existence of a God. Also it is quite clear that you know absolutly nothing about religion or the idea of god (beyond what your high-school science teacher conditioned you to believe), as you said that there is no such thing as a unique religion, now that is one phrase that I can with all confidence says is total and complete bullshit. Also it is a bunch of bunk that you say the burden of proof rests on the shoulders of us theists, it would be impossible for any of us to try to convice you of the existence of a god if you have such a close mind as to sneer at the very idea of religion(s). Also, you claim that you have presented proof that atheism is the way to go, yet I have read all your posts and see nothing. Any of the "evidence" you have posted doesn't stand up to anything.

Don't get me wrong and take me as completely closed minded, I actually would love to have it proven to me that there is no god. This would mean the end of life is simply the end of life, that there is nothing to follow and no consequence for our actions in this life. In some ways this sounds kind of nice. If it could be proved that there was no god, then all questions of theology would be easily answered. However I do not believe this is possible.

It seems one major misconception people have about god, is that science proves the impossiblilty of a god, however that has not one ounce of truth to it at all. Science can just as well prove the existence of a creator as it can disprove the existence of such a creator. Which still leaves us to ponder the age old questions, is there a god? Only a fool decides the answer is no without really thinking about it and studying it on his own (which means not just believing it because our parents, teachers, or other influentual people in our lives thought this way). In the same way I think it can be foolish to believe in god for these same reasons.

And actually another thing to add to Wal-Mart's defense. There is a woman I knew who was dying of cancer. She was an employee at a Sam's Club (for those who don't know, Sam's Club is owned by Wal-Mart). She had been sick and in the hospital for a long time and by this time she had been out of work for so long her insurance was about to run out. They let her come back into work and they made her a nice comfortable place to sit in the brake room where she didn't have to do anything. They gave her enough hours just so she could get passed the legally technicallity and keep her insurance. I hear of Wal-Mart/Sam's Club of doing things like this often for their employees. What obligates them to pay higher wages to their employees just because they are such a big company. Look at any other deparment or grocery store, I bet thet will be no better in price or benefits. A lot of grocery stores don't even higher people for 40 hours a week anymore because they don't want to have to give any benefits at all. Instead they higher twice as many people and only give them 20 - 30 hours a week.

If they were so ban happy then the Star Wars threads wouldn't be resembling TFN so much. What is up with everyone pissing on the mods here all the time. These boards have never been that controlled and honestly they still aren't. Unfortunately there have been a few incidents lately that have left a lot of people somewhat at odds with the mods. That mods are NOT ban happy, it is the people who are constantly saying they are that are making it seem that way. Nobody gets banned from here without warning.

Oh I really do miss that game. I haven't really played video games since the N64 era, so I haven't experienced any of the new stuff that is out there. But I really get annoyed when people laugh when Goldeneye is mentioned and say things that is such an old game or, oh yeah, I remember we used to play that all the time. It was so cheesy. It makes me feel like beating them over the head with my cane.

As for my screen name, I used to read a lot of Dark Horse's Star Wars comics. There was one issue of Droids that did the cliched evil-twin-swap story line. C3-P0 gets mistaken for a renegade assasin proticol droid named C3-PX.

Uh, that is an interesting thought. I hate Wal-Mart as much as the next guy (no really! I do!). But for one they pay their employees just fine for the type of job it is. If they aren't too happy with it they could perhaps consider getting an education and a real job. Otherwise, good luck finding a job that pays a whole lot higher than Wal-Mart. And I guess it is a good thing Wal-Mart doesn't enslave their employees and force then to work for them for the rest of their lives, then if they were to find a better job they couldn't quit and take that instead. Also, don't eat at McDonnald's, they don't pay their employees near enough, just look what each McDonald's resurant brings in each and everyday.

The hardest part about not shopping at Wal-Mart is that most of the time their prices are much lower, and they have no qualms about returns, none at all it is really amazing what they will take back without a receipt.

Like I said when you first proposed this idea on the SOTDS board, I love the idea. I am more excited about the possibility of you making this than I have been for any other fan edit. The PT is a bit of a lost cause to me and I am disapointed that I will never get to see a serious story of Anakin's fall to the dark side. This, if done right might be the closest thing any of us get to a serious and coherent prequel story.

Some of the suggestions have been really good, but I think some of your ideas are making him too dark. The way I see the story of Star Wars is a story of two people, Anakin and Luke. Anakin failed miserably, and where he failed Luke succeeds and redeems Anakin at the same time. Maybe I am thinking on a totally different path than some of you, but I think Anakin needs to be a good guy, he needs to be the hero. We need him to be the guy Obi-wan talks about in A New Hope. He needs to be virtuous, to be a truly good person, but then to be drug down and corrupted. I think this was an essential point for the redemption scene in Jedi to work. I don't think it should be (but it could be) a story of the abusive father type repenting in the end of how he neglected his family (to give a loose example), but a story of dark taking over light, but light ultimately triumphing over dark in the end. I think that is the thing that will separate it from an interesting story and from becoming an epic. I don't much like the idea of Anakin going behind Padme and killing Jedi, it doesn't seem to fit. I think it would even work better, though not as dramatic I suppose, if he didn't kill his wife at all. Lets say he left her, or maybe even better yet she leaves him. This could add more to his feeling of betrayal. Perhaps he is the one involved in politics and not her, or maybe he is just a jedi who are essentially detectives/cops. Maybe he is a work aholic, coming home late every night and she feels neglected and leaves him, later it turns out she was pregnant but maybe she didn't know that when she left and never bothered to tell him, or he "died" before she got the chance. This way Vader never would have imagined the possibility of having any offspring. This could be tailored to fit the OT flawlessly (as flawless as possible that is). Imagine if after Anakin's wife leaves him she, Obi-wan, Anakin's closest friend feels she was treated badly by her husband and tries to comfort her and help her out, they could end up growing closer and closer and Anakin could discover this. This would even more rationalize Anakin's total turn from the jedi and his trying to kill his best friend. It could end with Obi-wan seeing Anakin die, but since we are viewing things from Anakin's point of view we can know that he lives. "He left me there to die, but the Sith are much more resilient than that…" I was also thinking it might be interesting to separate the emperor from the chancellor. The whole face distorting thing from the force lighting is really dumb, it might be a good way to toss it. As for when Anakin starts killing the jedi (and I think killing the kids should be dropped out all together, it is a bit too sick. At least they shouldn't be the first he kills.), imagine that some big turn happens in the movie (like when Mace dies, or something of that matter) then we have the big reveal to Anakin, after all this time of slowly being manipulated by his mentor, he now knows the jedi are a big problem, they aren't really keepers of the peace but a bunch of warmongers who won't allow the war to end. Now he is told to "go to the jedi temple and do what must be done." Anakin VO: "At that moment it hit me, I finally realized what had to be done. The Jedi Council, this whole thing was being manipulated from the inside by them, there was nothing else to be done They had to be eliminated!" It is a shame there are no scenes of Anakin fighting any Jedi, we only get to see him getting ready to commit the murder of half a dozen or so 7 years olds.
Also I was thinking if you went with Anakin's wife leaving him, you could you the scene when he enters his apartment and sits down, then asks if Obi-wan had been here. Imagine that in B&W with the VO "She left me. (sneers) She didn't even have the guts to tell me she was leaving me, I come home and find a note, then realize all her things are gone. She had really left."

Just some thoughts. I hope you get the time to make this, it is something I would really be looking forward to.

Happy Birthday Mark Hamill - September 25th
Time
I have a lot more respect for Mark than any other actors I can think of. Mark seems a really cool down to earth guy. He gets a lot of crap about not having gone anywhere, but to me it seems he sticks to working on the kind of things he likes. It doesn't even seem that he has sunk really low like a lot of actors, he has made appearnces on many sitcoms, countless voiceovers for video games and cartoons, and he has done a lot of work on comic books. And I think he has produced a few things also. He has a family that he hasn't abandoned or screwed over (at least last I heard of) hasn't had countless trips to rehab for drugs or alcohol (again last time I checked), which is about all you will hear about Hollywood these days. Also there is not much you can say about his acting ability if you compare him to many of todays crappy actors.

As for Harrison Ford's career, has anybody here seen Firewall? I haven't. And nobody has told me I am missing anything. The last time he was in some good original movies was back in the days of Patriot Games, since then he has been in nothing new (well, not until something called What Lies Beneath, but lets not talk about that ).

Yeah, I don't download either, and neither do I buy CDs. It just isn't worth it anymore. Now you can buy custom made CDs from Wal-Mart full of only the songs you want, I am not sure how the selection is though.

THAT sounds like something I'd buy.

For people living in the U.S. http://www.walmart.com/music 88 cents a song looks like. If you add it all up it is somewhere around $20 for a full cd, it would be worth it since it is only the songs you choose.

Wow, I haven't even thought of the inevitable fact that something like Cartoon network would bring an end to Saturday morning cartoons. We used to wake up at (or try to anyway) at six am to watch cartoons when I was a kid. But I guess with Cartoon Network and other cable channels with cartoons, they get cartoons all week. I remember there used to also be an hour of cartoons in the afternoons right after school got out everyday.

If you ask me, it all started when hip-hop and rap began to invade mainstream music. Suddenly, any idiot with a few old records and a sampled drum beat was an 'artist'. I think if the kids today could be shown the wealth of music there is out there that goes beyond what happened 5 minutes ago, they would be amazed. Then they would be stunned at how shitty all the crap they have on their ipod really is.

It is close to the same thing with films these days, it is just an easy buck.

"Oh, you're cute! What's your name little guy?"
"Justin"
"You know, I think we can sell you! What do you think about being in a boy band Justin"
"I can't sing"
"Ahh, who care what do ya say? Just sign on the dotted line."

The whole music industry is a big joke now. The movie industry is headed in that direction, if they're not there already. When was the last time a Casablanca or a Wizard of Oz was made? Or a Citizen Cain or lets lower our standards a little and say when was the last time a Dr. Strangelove, or a China Town or even a Raider's of the Lost Ark. Heck even something of the quality of Jurassic Park would be refreshing. There have always been crappy movies, but now it is a joke even going to the cinema. I think that is why the Lord of the Rings films were so popular. Because they were well written and filmed movies that didn't go overboard with CG. Now that the LOTR trilogy is a few years old it is funny to see the same people who flocked to the theater to see them call them boring. Maybe it is because in the context of rewatchability they don't go very far, but for their initial viewing they blew people away. I grew up with Star Wars and Back to the Future, but look at what kids have these days to grow up with. The magical world of disney and movies of like quality. I can't believe the cheese that gets released to theaters these days.

Worst movies ever.
Time
There was this crappy Sci-fi movie that came out a few years ago, it was so bad it didn't even come to the theaters in the country I lived in at the time. I wanted to see it because it was the sequel to another crappy sci-fi I saw a few years before but it had some really cool parts in it, so I was pretty sure the second one would be alright. I had to wait a couple of month after it came out before I could buy a bootleg from the local video store, I could barely sit through it it was so bad. I think it was called Attack of the Clones or something silly like that. Strangely in America it was very popular, even had an I-Max version made from what I hear.

It is sad that films like Snakes on a Plane become popular because they are made crappily on purpose, but movies that they try to be a seriouly good film end up being crap.

One movie that is really crappy by todays standards but is fun to watch is called Duel http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067023/. Anyone who you can get to sit through the entire movie will think it was awesome (but they wont ever wish to watch it again). However it is no small task to get anybody to watch it.
