Well, the script for the movie was written by Douglas Adams, I guess he wanted to do something different/silly with it this time....
I think they should just make a new TV show with the exact same script as the radio show. That would be awesome.
It wasn't so much the script, but the acting and casting that I didn't like. I feel had Douglas Adams lived to see the movie through, it would have been much better. But then again, I really didn't like the TV series that much either, though I love the radio plays (the first two phases, the far more recent phases 3-5 I did not enjoy as much, felt more like full cast audio books, which is more or less what they were). To the old radio plays are the best, because they were the original. Though the books (the first two of which were based off the radio program) are quite good too. I think one of the greatest parts of any of them is the narraration, and the little quips from the guide that randomly interrupt the story. Great stuff. This was completely absent from the film, which is another reason I believe made it turned out so awful.
Ric, you mentioned four forms it was published it, however there was a video game that was also written by Douglas Adams and has its own variation of the story. But then again video games are not a linear forms of story telling, so it probably should not count. But, I agree, the books are great.
