Okay, when I said "suddenly I woke up one morning and couldn't play games anymore" I meant it as a figure of speech. I was refering to my system finding itself outdated. I do not need to reinstall anything, I do in fact need an upgrade if I were to want to play most modern games. This is a fact, there is nothing in denying it. Not every game has the function to turn down all the "bells and whistles" and even when they do, you can turn it down all the way and it still plays lousily. I would have loved to play Battlefront when it came out, but it is not going to happen. Not without buying new hardware.
"NO YOUR WRONG ABOUT HAVING TO BUY NEW STUFF TO PLAY ANY NEW GAMES!" Dude, calm down! Why are you getting so bent out of shape about this. Not everybody is as big into gaming as you seem to be. When I was in highschool I was big into games, at that time I owned a SNES and a N64 and felt the Playstation sucked (I owned one of those too, but never found any games half as good as my N64 games), at that time I would have been very happy to participate in console wars. High school is now a very distant memory to me, and I could care less about pissing on other consoles. The line Ric said about the PS fanboy crying somewhere, was more of a joke, not to be taken seriously. Just an off handed comment not meant to rough up anyone feathers.
"i've played every new game this year with a setup i made about 2 years ago"
If you have played every new game this year, then you have a hell of a lot more money on your hands than I have. I also do not have the money to buy a new system every two or three years. It is just my opinion that consoles, being just a few hundred with no extra troubles are a much cheaper than a $700 dollar system every three years or so. If you do not agree with this, it is not going to hurt you. The world is not going to end. We can all live in harmony. Your PC gaming experience is a good one. Mine ended when my system, which I am quite fond of and have no intention of replacing or throwing more money into, became outdated and could not handle new games. Yes it is my fault because I did not commit to buy a new system or a new graphics card. I would much rather buy a new console system than a new computer, thus PC gaming is not worth it for me. I know plenty of others who agree with me. But hey, it is okay. PC gaming is still there, your games aren't going anywhere. And some of us still feel that sony is going to lose this round. We might be wrong. That is part of the fun and beauty of making predictions like this, you might be wrong and you can look back and say, "man, I really thought the dreamcast was going to rule."

On the other hand, if putting it in grinds things to a halt-- 108 min. is fine. We want this to be a good movie first, a good "Star Wars" movie second. If making it a "good Star Wars" movie length makes it a bad movie in general-- then what's really been gained?
Thoughts about the final kiss:
The first thing I noticed, screening it, was how un-OT the preceeding "Clone Army" marching off to war scene was. That thing is a real killer because I find that to be the most obvious CGi in the movie. It's like watching a scene from Roger Rabbit to have to pretend Palpatine and those troops are really sharing the same space. The most crippling aspect, imho, is how the camera moves around so much-- those computer made mattes allow the camera to do things that weren't possible during the OT-- so we get stuck with footage that will never match (unless Trooperman pulls off some magic). Too bad there aren't static shots of those troops and ships. I think it would all look more real and feel more OT.
I mention all that because the failings of that scene spill over into the failings of the Anakin wedding/kiss scene. I'm already in a "bad mood" so to speak, fighting to stay in the movie as it keeps doing things that take me out.
But forgetting the troops and just looking at the wedding footage, I think a solution is there. What makes th wedding/kiss so bad? It feels awkward to me. They kiss like teenagers on a date. The sequence has no grace in its cutting-- a moving shot cuts to a static shot that starts moving a fraction of a second later, then to another static shot that starts moving a fraction of a second later. Then more awkward, hesitant kissing and "meaningful" glances that convey no meaning. The result of all these bits of awkwardness make me dislike the scene for seeming to want to be more than it is. Is it just a happy wedding? Or is something brewing underneath? The awkwardness hints at something a little wrong-- but the awkwardness is the only hint.
Solution? I say, edit out the awkwardness.
FIRST SHOT: Pulling back from the sun in the mountains, then to the wide shot of the couple exchanging vows.
The priest steps away, Anakin reaches for Padme. CUT ON MOTION as his golden hand also reaches for her-- make these movements be graceful; all in one.
They move in for the first kiss-- and just after their lips touch for the first time, CUT to the droids moving and congratulating each other. Then CUT to the close-up 2 shot of Padme and Anakin kissing with sunlight behind them-- as they FINISH their last kiss (so the effect is that they had one LONG kiss -- not twenty hesitant awkward kisses).
Then as Padme and Anakin manage to separate and look at each other, let Padme look at Anakin ONCE, then CUT TO the final long shot as they turn together to look at the sunset. (the idea here is that we should be Cutting away before she awkwardly looks at his eyes, looks down, looks up, looks down and basically communicates to us "Who is this guy and what am I doing here?").
To me, that improves this final scene a lot by eliminating a lot of weird "static" that comes in because of the clumsy filmmaking/acting choices. It won't be half-so objectionable if it is simply graceful.
Them's my thoughts.
And if possible, figure out a way to make the Clone Army stuff seem to contain more still shots.
Glad to hear progress is being made, TM!

If TM can pull it off, it sounds like it could be a huge improvment. I like the idea of one long kiss rather than them making out. It would have a much less modern feel to it this way.

I agree with you. This scene is bad (sorry Marvolo/musicman/C3PX et al). I think the more you watch AOTC, the more there is the risk of becoming (in a way) desensitized to some elements of it (the hopelessly executed romance scenes for example).
There's nothing wrong with being blunt at all mate.

I have only scene the film twice, and once was on a ridiculously poor quality VHS screener. Because where I lived at the time Star Wars never came to the cinema, but there was an abundance of bootleg video shops. I guess the reason that scene has never stuck out and bothered me was that there was a lot of other crap that came before it. I am not saying it isn't bad as far as film goes, I am saying it is not bad for a Star Wars prequel film.

Hm... I don't know what to tell you, Sage. I've enjoyed PC gaming, but anymore it's so hard to keep up with the technology curve that I really can't get into PC gaming anymore.

Yeah, Chaltab! Why do you have to be so flaky? J/K! This would also be my complaint. And I really don't care a thing about graphics. One of my most often played games is still Dark Forces for the pc. Trust me, I do not care about graphics. And yet my biggest gripe about PC games is that you cannot keep your technology updated enough. In my case, and I can easily imagine in the case of Darth Chaltab, this has nothing to do with graphics. This has merely to do with the fact that we would like to be able to PLAY them, period. With computer gaming they are constantly making things better, it seems every few years it slows down for a little while, then they start making huge leaps again. I went from a console gamer, to a PC gamer, to no gamer at all because I suddenly woke up one morning and couldn't play any of the new games I was interested in, while a few months ago they all worked beautifully. It has absolutely nothing to do with graphics. In this manner PC gaming gets to be pretty expensive. Also, I don't think anybody has really gotten into any console wars crap, we are just saying our opinions of the new systems. Just because we say that we think Sony is in trouble, doesn't mean we are pissing on Sony because we are Mario or Microsith fanboys. In my opinion Sony, always releases mostly decent products, for quite a bit more money because it bears their brand name. I don't think in any product they are particularly worth it. My friend spend a considerable amount more on a Sony DVD player that he would have on any other brand, and he got less features for it, my little apex DVD player could play discs without any challenge, while his Sony skips with little provocation. I am not saying apex is better than Sony, but that Sony has a pretty bloated price tag for what it is. I think it is the same with any of their products, including the PSX, PS2, and yes the PS3. Looking at the game selections and the systems, I would give my vote to the 360, but then again, the wii looks pretty impressive in the new technology section, while the other two seem like they just have a larger processor and graphics chips. There have been no extremely bias opinions of anything to complain about. If you would like to mediate a console war, I think IGN's forms may be the place to join up.
Ah, your argument against the PC gaming bash, is that you should just stick to the older games, but we are not talking about that. Of course there will always be millions of games to play on the PC, but if you would like to play anything new, then you DO have to upgrade, so there is sort of a rule about it, if you want to play you have to upgrade. There is probably hardly a single PC release this year (other than some stupid casino games) that my system could even consider running.

Judging by his pose, and what I have learned about him from the tape despenser, I am sure he would be delighted!
Did these ceramic makers in 1983 have a threepio fetish or something! Those are two positions I never expected to see a proticol in in my entire life.

The only thing missing from this scene is the handcuffs.
Wow, that Darth Vader "waterball" is awsome! I really, really, really, want one! And I am not kidding eaither. That is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. It is like that sweet and annoyingly innocent (I always imagined Anakin Skywalker would have been a trouble maker in his youth, not little goody two shoes. Oh well.) little boy has climbed out of his evil dark menacing shell, and is living out his fantasy of playing in the snow. In context of how lame the prequels are, this snow globe makes perfect sense. In a galaxy where Darth Vader likes to do Frankenstien impressions, this fits amazingly well.

Perhaps if our government was the totalitarian regime it aspires to, I would not hold myself or my countrymen responsible for its actions.
I wish you knew what a totalitarian regime was really like. Then you would not compare America to one. All you know is that it is not a good thing, and you don't feel the American government is a good thing, so in your mind they might as well be the same. America is the complete opposite of everything any totalitarian state would stand for. Where my wife is from, when she was little she was always told that she lived in the most prosperous country in the world. They would tell everyone how poor America was and how America wanted to invade them. All the people knew how much the Americans and the Russians lusted after their country, but they didn't fear too much. After all, they were the most powerful nation in the world. They would liken America to a cartoon tiger, it didn't realize it was a cartoon, America thought it was the real thing. It went around growling and snarling, threatening everyone, while it was really completely harmless. Everybody laughed at the idea of a cartoon tiger running around making threats, when in reality it was just a colourful little kitten. In the morning you would stand in line to get your milk ration, at some point, without fail the milk would run out. When this happened nobody would say, "Hey, the milk is out, everybody just go home. Better luck tomorrow." No. You knew the milk was out, you saw people walking away empty handed. But you didn't say anything. If you did any number of things could happen to you, but none of them would be pleasant. No. You waited in line, once you got to the front of the cue they would tell you the milk was out, and wish you better luck tomorrow. Then, you would go home. To say the milk was out and to leave the cue before getting to the front would be to admit that there was a problem, a milk shortage. But in your society there are never any problems. Never. Your society is perfect!
This is what it means to live in a totalitarian state. I am not saying that America could not one day succumb to such a regime. If it did, it would be a very long ways off, and some very large changes in the way we think would have to take place first. To say America aspires to be totalitarian is the sheerest of ignorance. I take it George Orwell is no longer required reading in American High Schools? That is truly a shame.

America | Rest of the world
There isn't such a gap, the rest of the world is right beyond the door whether you want to admit it or not. The problems in the rest of the world are our problems too, and everything one of us does effects the rest. China wants nuclear weapons? Well, we have the right they have the right, right? After all they live in a different universe than us! If Iraq wants WMDs, let em have em! They have every right to them as we do! After all they live in a different universe than us! Wake the hell up!

I think they'll be the first to come out with the next console after this current generation because they probably designed and priced the system with that in mind that most households aren't going HD in the foreseeable future. Sorry, I'm going all over the place with my opinion here. I'm just hoping I'm choosing a console that'll give me an enjoyable gaming experience.

Don't trade in your PS2, you'll never get back out what you put into it, and the trade in amount will probably barely make a dent in the price of the wii. I have done this a couple of times, and always felt sorry for it later. I did this with my Gamegear, I traded it in for a Gameboy. Gamegears suck, but later when I though about how much I had spent on my Gamegear and all my games, and then thought of how little the Gameboy had actually cost and that I now only had two games for it and that the GG trade in price didn't even cover it all it. It would have been worth it just to keep my Gamegear and spent a bit extra on the Gameboy. I also lost my SNES in this way in order to help pay for my N64. That is the one I really regret. Especially with how much SNES and games sell for now.
