I don't know what leads you to believe nobody will see it if it was posted in off topic. The fact is in off topic it would be seen by plenty of people. Off topic is often more lively than the Genral SW discussion, and it draws more people who are interested in discussing topics of this nature. There is no reason to post things in their wrong catagory just because you are too lazy to click into a seperate section. Unless you want to talk about deforestation on Kashyyk (sp?) this is completely the wrong form.

ZigFried's Archival Saga (* unfinished project *)
Time
Noooo! This is a great thread! I have been following it from the beginning, it is such an ambishous project I find myself checking on the hour in hopes of more posts from zig.

Most of you don't seem to appreciate the course this project has taken during its short existence. Its evolution is unbelievable. I can honestly say I have only once seen its equal, and that was zigs other project, the swf editions (which unfortunately turned out to be far to overwhelming for zigfried and was canned). For those of you who seem to only be complaining about this and not realizing it for what it really is, I shall explain.

This project started out with little ZigFried wanting to contribute something to the community. What better way to do this than to make backup copies of DVDs we already own and can easily back up on our own a million times easier than teaching zig how to do it. What easier way to backup the DVDs than download them in xvid format then convert them to DVD. This sounds stupid to you all because you have forgetten to take into account that THEY ARE COPY PROTECTED!! Duh! You can't copy them straight from the disc! So you download them from somebody else who already have the free 3mb software to remove the copy protection and compressed them to avi. (he he, this whole thing reminds me a ratdvd ). However before he could finish downloading them somebody informed him of this free software for copying DVDs called DVD shrink, so he downloaded the trial version of DVD X Copy. Do not ask why. Zig is very wise, he knows what he is doing. Finally, zigfried decided that doing whole new menus would be tricky, so he kept the old ones. He also decided that mailing these out to people would be tricky, so he decided not to give them to anybody else but to make a set for himself. Oh, and he is VERY happy about his work.

^That is why this is the greatest and most ambishous project this board has ever seen! ^

Now excuse me as I go explain to lordjedi the use of exaggeration and over statment as sarcasm. He seems to have taken all my comments far too seriously.

"Banning of OCPMovie"
Time
I cannot believe all this OCP defending. Get over it. He is banned and he did it to himself. It really doesn'
t matter that he did not do it on this site. He got the edits from here, and it makes the fanediting community look bad. OT.com had EVERY right to ban him. I like how Will likened banning OCP to cutting off his hands for stealing bread. Come on! Honestly. There are a lot of people struggling in the world. I myself am not exactly rich. We all have to work hard for what we have. I have no idea what OCP does, but if his job does not cover his rent, perhaps he should look for a cheaper apartment, find a higher paying job or take on a second job. You know, the kind of things the rest of us do to get by. With Will's logic, if I am struggling, I am perfectly right to go and steal a car and sell it, because I am struggling. If I get caught, well then it is a damn shame and I should have been more subtle about the whole matter. You said you met OCP in high school? What was that liek last week. I really hope you just got out of high school if you have that kind of thinking. Because if you have been in the real world for more than a few years and still think this way then... I have no idea what to say.

It is also funny you put fanediting and selling bootlegs for profit in the same boat. "Yes, I can see a judge rolling his eyes at that line of logic." Making copies of movies for the sake of profit, and editing movies as a hobby are to totally different things. Why should a copyright owner really care if you are editing their film for your own fun as long as you paid them for the original. Even if they wanted too, it is going to cost them. I cannot see it being worth their time and money to do this when it is of no gain to them. However, if you are selling their films, they will see this as a threat, and it is worth it to them to put a stop to it. They will be spending money to do so, but it is important to make an example of them to prevent further abuse.

Looking at the past, since the time the Phantom Menace came out and the first fanedit of it poped up and made big news, the copyright holders looked at the issues, thought the best way to proceed, and in the end did nothing. GL has so far been friendly about the matter, and other copyright holders would be smart to do likewise. If in the future there is a huge epidemic of people like OCP deciding that since they went through the pain and sweat of downloading the thing that they have the right to sell it (but only because they are having a hard time with life), then the copyright holders might reconsider their current stance.

So, lets review:

Bootlegging = very bad, punishable by law and has been punished by law on countless occasions.

Fan edits = a fairly gray area, technically breaking of copyright law but not doing any harm, to date has never been punished by law, even though its existence has been acknowledge by film makers.

We are not in the same boat as OCP, he was selling for profit, while we are editing for fun. If one day they decide to crack down on fan edits, then it will be interesting what the courts decide. If and when that time comes, then we will all either stop, or go underground. As it is, I really do not feel I am breaking any laws. Of all the fan edits I posses, I also own the original, bought and paid for retail DVD. The money going straight from my hands to the hands of the copyright owners. They have nothing to complain about with me. OCP on the other hand, his case in something entirely different. He had no right, by whatever argument you want to use to sell those discs. I don't give a crap if he was doing it to pay rent, and neither do the copyright owners.

ZigFried's Archival Saga (* unfinished project *)
Time
Of course that wasn't a joke! Are you kidding? This project sound awesome! I have never been so excited about a preservation attempt than this one. I must admit I was a little disappointed when he decided to use DVD quality rather than divx, because divx is so much more detailed. You honestly can never match divx quality. It blows old DVD out of the water any day of the week, or the month for that matter. You don't have to explain to me what he is doing. He explains it himself quite clearly. I really hope he goes ahead with his menus. But it sounds like he might have to do away with them inorder that he is able to finish this project. I for one cannot wait. With or without the menus, this is perhaps the finest and most ambishous attempt at film preservation I have ever witnessed!

This has got to have been your most ambishous attempt to contribute to the community yet ZigFried. I really liked your idea about converting the DVDs to avi, then converting them back to DVD. Fantastic way to get past the copy protection really. Also, you would have found the quality to be ideal for archiving. Too bad the other members talked you out of this method. Well, good luck on your preservation attempt. I shall be looking forward to seeing how this one ends.

Are there any in Brazil, Ric? What other franchises are there? I always love hearing the differences between the American and "foreign" (to me) versions of fast food, ever since the conversation about the Le Big Mac and the Royale with Cheese in Pulp Fiction.

Ha! Are you kidding? The commercial empire of America invades all boarders. No where is safe from the banner of the Golden Arches of Triumph! Ever heard the song "Amerika" by Rammstein? I love that song for how very true the commercialization part is, which is the only part in English. Very wisely they switch over to German when complaining about America being world police. That way it had the chance to become a popular radio song and at the same time not offend unilingual patriotic Americans. But I still like the song.

Back to the main point of this post. It is funny what fastfood places you will find in the most obscure places. I was in Ohrid, Macedonia one time (I get around) and on the very corner of the sidewalk there was this huge kiosk with a McDonald's sign on top. It turned out it was a real authentic McDonald's. It was funny because all it had for a seating area was a few benches cemented into the sidewalk in front of the McDonalds. It had the "number 1" "number 2" ect. menu setup on the wall like American McDonalds do. But when it would close they would just lock its one door, and then close and lock the front ordering window. It is like this obscure modified little peice of America right there in the middle of Macedonia.

Oh yeah, and Little Ceasers is awsome. In quality and price.

Your favorite version of the Thief
Time
Tiptup, try Google video. You can even download it in mp4 format. No, not the best quality, but you can at least get the gist of how it is.

And my favorite version of thief is Aladdin (painful how simular they are, reminds me of when Disney ripped off Kimba the White Lion)

I had never even seen it before OCP recobbled cut. I am usually a fan of the directors original vision, especially when it is a case where the director had his film violently ripped from his hands in mid-production. Also I don't expect to waste anytime watching any of the other versions. They sound pretty terrible. So I guess my favorite would have to be recobbled.

A lot of you guys are saying you did not even notice Harrison Ford, but there are a lot of BR fan that hang out at this forum, to us it is as jarring as it would be for a Star Trek fan to see Captian Kirk wondering about the bar.

I am in no way trying to nitpick or split hairs, I was just giving the kind of helpful critism TM has always appreciated. I found it jarring, perhaps I am the only one, though I do not believe so.

One way or another, that clip proved to me that this edit is going to be well worth the wait. Impressive stuff TM.

Wow! You came pretty close to following through with you word this time ZigFried. Well, better luck on that next time. I am glad you were able to come out of this deal with some awsome quality wmv files though. I might go ahead and convert my own trilogy to ShockWave flash. Seems like a worth while thing to have around. Never know when you might need them.

I guess you don't pay much attention while reading other peoples posts. You said after the 40th anniversary (and I believe you intended to say 30th) of Star Wars that nobody would even care to talk about it any longer. I said, I guess you have never met a real SW fan before. Because I promise a good number of us here will be talking about SW until the day we die. I said nothing about Star Wars fans being rude and impolite people, you pulled that out of yer ass. I think I said something about you being a 40 year old woman, while the rest of us are post retirement males who tend to be more crass and put up with more verbal abuse (and not take it to heart, but shrug it off and respond with more friendly verbal abuse) than women of any age do. Also I am the one who said that Rob and Stinky are out trolls in residence. It is not a term we use to refer to them, I just throught of it off the top of my head. It is just that those two like to be a pain in the ass, but most of us don't mind them much. Rob is a bit annoying at times, but Stink is stitch. They really help to lighten the mood, if you know what I mean. In other words, they show sign of trolling from time to time, but I don't think any of us would really like to see them go. They have gained favor among us and are part of our community. It sounds like you are fond of forums with low tolerance policies so that nobody gets their feeling hurt.

I used to get these thing ALL the time. I am talking like once a week at the least. They get very creative. And sadly yes, some poor fools fall for these and sent them their bank account numbers. Some of the stories get really bizzare. One was claimed to be from the wife of a African president. Her husband recently died and she had to stash the funds someplace so the local gov. didn't take it from here because it had been leagally gained. Some of the stories were very impressive, makes me sad these guys aren't working for hollywood. Sad when identity theives can write better stories than paid script writers.

Obi, the more you post, the less sorry I feel that you are leaving. It is funny you wine about the "lack of moderation" when recently it seems everyone complains about the local moderators being too active.

You and your yage are a perfect example of the increasing number of overly sensitive Americans this country seems to be producing. I imagine that you are entirely unaware of the fact that a decent amount of our "community" (appearantly by your definition, we aren't a community at all) are not Americans, but from numerous location around the globe. I guess people of other nationalities are not as sensitive, you seem to take offense at every tiny little thing. Honestly! Grow up! This is why so many Americans are so sue happy. Oh my gosh! I just spilt my McDonald's McCoffee! I better sue the pants of McDonald's! Bloody hell. Grow up!

Also I think it is funny you mentioned that after the 40th (perhaps you meant 30th) anniversary of Star Wars nobody will have any interest in talking about it anymore. I guess you have never met a real live SW nerd before. I think your problem is that you are a 40 year old woman going to a message board full of mostly guy under the age of 30.

I am not appreciating how you keep pissing on our community. If you don't like it get the hell out. We do have commeraderie here, and right now you keep saying how we are not a community at all, and how pathetic we are here. Two trolls insult you and and you respond immaturely with your over sensitive bitching and it is really getting rediculous. It is not fair to crap on our whole community just because you got your fragile little feeling hurt. I loved your whole lecture on how a board is to be moderated. I hope Jay reads it, I am sure he hasn't a clue of all the things he has been doing so wrong all these years.

Oh I know it was meant to be taken seriously. And like I said, I found it very facinating, I really liked how it would show the tradjectory of each shot and list the things that it hit. But I can see why people took offense, the thing that really hit me as being completely wrong was the competition that the game makers held for who could get the closest to Oswalds shots, as if that was not bad enough, it had real cash prizes. I know it was for the sake of promoting the game to increase sells, but it really is going way too far. Also I appreciate that the only figure whose head will explode when shot is Kennedy's, since this is what really happened. If you could blast everybodies brains out I would find it more upsetting. That shows they were not intending to to be merely a gore fest. Like I said in my last post, I respect what they were trying to do, but in many ways it goes too far.

The funny thing about it is that the insults came from Rob and Stinky, our two trolls-in-residence here at OT.com. They are both fond of making fun of comments they disagree with, just shrug it off and move on. It is best to liken them with guard dogs, they bark at strangers, but if you earn their respect they can be fun to have around. Not trying to justify their actions, just saying that most of us have come to expect that from them and have learned to live with it. They are the type that you should just shrug off their comments and continue with life. Theses two flame you and you act like the whole community has pissed on your grandmother grave.

Also it is a bit childish to say that you are not name calling via the arguement "I did not call you retarded, I said you are acting like a retarded person." which is what you did with the whole "remember Rob, I never actually called you gay..." thing.

As for WESHALLPRESERVE, he is awfully fond of bringing up the fact that he is 14, so for the sake of argument lets just a assume he is fourteen. You claim to be forty, in that case who should be the bigger man? Expect fourteen year olds to act immaturely. If you don't, you're going to be disappointed.

I must say this for the FE.com guys, at least they (for the most part) left their farewell thread the hell alone after posting it.

Out of morbid curiosity, I downloaded JFK Reloaded. I kind of respect what they were trying to do, it is an interesting idea. And the way they explain the bullet shots at the end of each turn is really interesting. But honestly, it is really sick. It is not just some silly first person shooter, you are portraying a known killer, and killing a 3d figure bearing the name and likeness of a real man. At least the goal of the game is not merely to kill the pres., but to get as close as possible to the marks Oswald actually hit. Still, pretty sick. Now I am waiting for the game were I get to portray the D.C. Sniper and try to commit his crimes as close as possible to how they really happened. Also since his was numerous kills rather than just one event, this game could be multiple levels to the game. The cool one will be the game were you have to aim a commercial airliner at the World Trade Center. I am really looking forward to that one. And how cool would it be to relive Columbine? Or the Oklahoma City bombing. Come on, it is just too much! Even worse than them selling this thing was the competition. That was really just wrong and really twisted.

Yes, the whole cloning thing is extremely lame. However, I have always liked the idea of the Imperial Remnant. With how powerful the Empire was it would stand to reason that its forces reaching across the galaxy wouldn't just say, What? Palps kicked the bucket? Alright, I guess thats the end of it. It would be very unreasonable for the Rebels to march into the capitol and reclaim it the very day after the defeat of the Emporer. It makes sense that people like Thrawn would take on larger roles when they suddenly discovered they were in command of a huge armada and had nobody to answer to. Whether out of patriotism to the Galactic Empire or out of selfish gain. But Emporer clones, that is too Star Trek quality.

I am a BR fanboy too. Yeah, I didn't even think about the fact that non fans might take it as being a Han Solo cameo when Han should be very young at this time.

Just watched the scene over again, I really like the first shot Decker shows up in, because if you blink you could miss him. In the two following shots of him he is right there, no way to miss him. He doesn't even feel like a background charecter which he should be. The camera is too centered on him. Especially in the third shot.

Oh what I'd give for a box of those right about now. I had really hoped they would start remarketing those with the PT. Alas, Nothing. I had hoped it might become a permanent thing like Count Cocula. How great would it be to be able to walk into your local grocery store and buy a box at any time. It would become a permanent addition to my breakfast cabinet. Okay, I just watched the file. Very impressive. I liked the idea of the Harrison Ford cameo, but honestly those shots of Decker REALLY pulled me out of the scene. The other Blade Runner stuff fits just fine, I could recongnize the scenes (big BR fan) but they felt just fine, and would probably even be unnoticeable by somebody who isn't too familular with BR, but the shots of Harrison Ford are going to be noticable from a mile away. Anybody who knows what BR is will probably put it together. Also anybody who might have watched this movie and been very impressed would immediately recongnize that the shots of Harrison Ford would have been ripped off from some other film. I think it would be awsome if it was a distance shot were you had to being paying attention to notice him, but would easily be missed by the unalert eye. Just a thought.

The voice is a little jarring at first, but when you get used to it, it is great. IMHO. The problem is that TM changed a lot of the original lines so that they are entirely different from Hayden's. If this thing could work with Hayden's TM wouldn't have changed it. Just try to unlearn all that you have learned about the old EP. II, and I bet you will love this.

The old Star Wars comics - general discussion thread
Time
I used to be really into the SW comic books. In fact my screen name comes from Droids issue 3. One of my favorites was the Boba Fett series. Before you think how lame it was to make a Boba Fett comic series, I must tell you it was really quite cool. They sorta turned Boba Fett into an overly violent superhero for hire. Kind of a mixture of Punisher, Batman and Spidey. I would say. It had a lot of the whole Batman detective sort of thing going on. They didn't over do it either, they really retained the mystery of Boba Fett, never really telling you anything about him or his back story. I liked them alot. I also liked the Tales from Mos Eisley, a collection of short Twilight Zoneish stories that take place in the SW universe. I think only one issue was ever made. Another favorite was Droids. The first Tales of the Jedi issues were pretty cool too. I liked the whole Jedi setup in there better than the EP. 1 setup. I think the ones I read were either Golden Age of the Sith or The Sith War, but I really don't remember. Another thing that stood out that I wanted to read but never did, is the Marja Jade series, Emperor's Hand. Star Wars Tales had some fun things in them from time to time too. I remember there was one that was a court room parody where Greedo's family was bringing Han before court for the murder of their son. Han claims it was out of self defense. They show the video of Greedo shooting first and the Greedo family lawyer points out the the footage appears to have been tampered with.
