Hmmm, twinkies...

I haven't had a twinkie in years, I use to love those things. If I were on that retreat I would go for the twinkies instead of the hot dogs too. But then again I have never nor never will claim to be a veggitarian. Being a veggitarian is just plain stupid. I mean who doesnt want to tare into a nice slab of meat from time to time. Broccili, pah! Carrots, pah! I crave not these things! (although they go great with a nice pot roast).

Yes, the storm does seem to be dying down, hmm? Maybe they all burnt to death due to the over heating of our planet due to my driving of an SUV and Mr. Brown's cattle heard's letting of internal gases. Damn cows! I knew humankind should have make a exclusive switch to chickens long ago. But if that were to happen, where would we get the fat to make twinkies? Life is becoming too complicated.

On a simpler matter, I was at this nude ivy league university party the other day discussing global warming with a group of girls and...

How do you know anything about any of them if you don't study them? I would invite every Christian to study Islam, and every Muslim to study Christianity. Every atheist to study creationism, and every theist to study evolution. And all of them to do so with an open eye. If Christians go searching the internet for reasons the Qu'ran is a pile of crap, or atheists go searching for reasons why the Bible is a pile of crap (or Christians searching for why darwinism is a pile of crap, or any combo of any), then you you are only seeing a bias and not really gaining anything.

I like your little warning label Sean. Prove that whoever came up with that label know very little about the object he is labeling. I especially like the content warning where is says "descriptive or advocating" it kind of makes it sound like the bible supports sodomy and violent rape. While it mentions these and the other things listed, it certainly doest advocate them, or by any means give any sort of descriptions of them.

I like how the bible gets a bad rap from the things people teach in the name of the bible. I think even for an atheist the bible could be a fasinating work of literature. It is far above the level of Homer's works, and contains many very interesting and historically accurate bits of history. I feel it should at least be given as much respect as Homer gets, or any other work of literature, whether you think it is fiction or not. It is really annoying something so interesting recieves so much hate from people who havent a clue of what is written inside. Even the bible stories you think you know well, you may find to be completely different when reading them from the real source.

Alright, just wanted to throw in a few quick comments.

First off, everybody has the right to their own opinion, no matter how ignorant it seems to others. It isn't very nice to go flaming them for it. America is pretty much founded off of the whole live and let die philosophy. Survival of the fitest. It is the very natural way of things, you'll find it happening in nature everyday. Before you say that humans have their own mind and are better than the animals, I must say that of course we are, but you see this same behavior in humans too. Always have, always will. You can argue that we are better than this until the cows come home, but it wont make the facts of life any less true. You will always have power hungry madmen who want more power. This is called greed. We all know greed quite well and have all felt it at some level or another. Anyway, America won it independance through this philosophy, and it is still a very strong part of us today. Americans have the tendancy to be extremely independant. Once when I lived oversees somebody told me that we Americans are extremely cruel, because we always kick our children out when they turn 18. This came to me funny, because I have rarely met an 18 year old in America who was not excited to get out on their own. In America our philosophy usually tells us if somebody threatens to take something away from us, we should stand up for ourselves and not let them. If somebody tries to kill you kill them first. No all Americans think this way, but plenty of us do.

That said, hopfully those of you from other countries can understand why some of your ways of thinking are so unbelievable obsured to some of us. To address WESHALLPRESERVE, I know you are young, but I don't think excuses you from laying down so much flak on some of these guy. Try to keep the insults down. It can be damaging to the rest of what you are trying to say, and you do have some great points. But if I were any of the ones you are insulting, I imagine I would stop caring how good your posts are. These other guys have the right to their opinions, it doesnt hurt us that much (especially if they are not an American voter), the consequences of their way of thinking will have the largest impact on them. Whether they ultimately end up finding that impact a positive or a negative one is for them to discover. Keep the good points coming WESHALLPRESERVE, but I would suggest (but only a suggestion) trying to use more tact. You are going to find that most people in life are close minded and already know all the truth about the world and everything in it. When this is the case, as it most often is, there comes a moment when the best course of action is to stop arguing with them.

A truely wise man always realizes what a fool he really is. The universe is a massive place full of countless things, none of us will ever know more than the smallest fraction of these things. This is why an open mind is a smart thing to hang onto.

And about the whole thout shalt not kill thing. There are numerous translation of the Bible in English, many of them have both their strong points and their low points, and they all say essentually the same thing execpt for the occasional translation error. To truely say that it really means that you should not murder, you would need to look at the original Hebrew text, because you will find both murder and kill used if you look through just a few different english translations. The fact is that the same Jewish law that commanded that man should never kill man also supported capitol punishment, and the same God who gave them the ten commandments (of which man should not kill man is one of) also sent the Jewish people into battles against other nations. I don't know if the quote ferris gave mention that, I did not take the time to read them. If they did then I apologize for the redundacy. Humerously murder was punishable by death. So to use that against the death penalty is laughable. And this is off topic, but thought I would mention just for fun, something that a lot of abortionist hating Christians (not a fan of abortion myself) have a hard time with, the Jewish law mentions the compensation that a man was to pay if he struck a pregnant woman and caused her to lose her baby, and it is a MUCH smaller price than the penalty for the murder of child. (I don't see this as a Biblical base that abortion should not be equated with murder, but I do find it something interesting to think about.)

Oh, right the topic. Uh.. so yeah, how about them cows? Think we can genetically engineer them not to release harmful gases? Doing away with the SUVs is one thing, in thirty years you might be able to phase all of those out if the car companies can be convinced to stop making them; but Americans sure love their livestock.

What if we were to accumulate the majority of earth's water, load it up into a massive spaceship and take it to the sun and spray it with it. Would that douse the sun just enough to cool it down for a few years? That might be the answer to our problem. I am going to go an call NASA real quick and give them my suggestion.

I lived in Europe for a few years, the E.U. is very upsetting. I feel bad for all those little countries selling out to get in. It makes travel and visas easy and it has a few other upsides, but for the most part it is very frightening. Anyway, it is a completely different thing than the U.N. The E.U. is more like Europe's version of the United States. Opening boarders and uniting with one currency. Travel in Europe used to be more of a pain because of currency conversion and entering a new country every few kilometer. Even though half of the letters are the same in the two, they really do serve two different purposes.

Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side (the TM edit) (Released)

Episode III- I'm really distressed about. Fundamentally, I'm not seeing a way to turn it into a good movie. With Episode II, largely with the help of Mark Haslett, we were able to twist the basic story into something that's good and coherent and redefine Anakin. With Episode III, what can you do? Yoda and Sidious have a lightsaber fight that ends for no reason at all. ??? Palpatine has ridiculous looking makeup after zapping himself with his lightning (rather than a slow Dark Side corruption as was being strongly implied in Episode II). ??? Then there's the whole General Grievous problem. Is he Darth Maul? Does that stretch the limits of believability? I guess it's no worse than finding out that 3 out of the 4 main characters from completely different backgrounds are all in the same immediate family in ROTJ...

Maybe this is material for a new thread...

Yes, this has always been the hardest thing in EP.III to get around, Palpatines retardard transition in the middle of the film. I have just thought of a possible way around it. What if we can work it so that we never see the end of the confrontation with Palp. Windu. Maybe mention the out come via an Anakin voice over explaining the he realized the jedi were wrong and that he became Palpatine's apprentice. It could then be said that several years have passed. It would be some tricky editing, we would have the problem of Padme being pregnant and would no longer be able to kill her off. George sure made a huge mess of that film. I still cringe every time somebody says it is by far the best of the PT.

Back on the real topic. All I have to saw about the crawl is:

FANTASTIC!

I am very impressed with how well it works. And no big deal on the release date slide back, get this thing done right.

If the big guy is pointing a gun at you, and telling you that the idea is to see you dead, I think that's justification enough.

But I can also see how that point could be lost on people who don't bother reading subtitles. Without the subtitles, Greedo might just be taking Han in, not intending to kill him.

Alas, so it all come back to this. I can see now much more depth in this silly debate. To people like Gomer and Lucas, this whole Greedo thing is a matter of integrity. Han couldn't so much as consider killing Greedo with out becoming the bad guy. I have no right to attack the brute in the bar who is saying that in five minutes or so he is going to turn around and shove a pull cue up my rectum and kill me. I have to wait for the first neck breaking blow to come to me before I can throw the first punch. In the real world, that is a wee bit late.

What if Greedo had been a better shot? Han would have been dead. Luke would have had to get a ride to Alderaan from some other pilot, and the Death Star would have destroyed the rebel strong hold.

The whole idea of only attacking in retaliation is a very foolish one. The man at the bar analogy was a bit of a dumb one, because you are in a public place and there are others all around. Nobody would just shoot some big guy in the bar because he was threatening with words. However, let try another analogy, A man breaks into you home, he has a gun, he wakes you and your family up asks for some breakfast and threats to rape your daughter if you don't make it for him. You too have a gun, must you wait for him to shoot your wife or one of your children before you put a bullet into his head?

By your logic, he shoots at your son, misses, and you shoot him while still holding onto your precious integrity. Because we do, in fact live in a perfect world where all bad men are as bad of shots as Mr. Greedo was. I am sure if America ever was nailed by an ICBM, it would miss us and go into the ocean, then we would have every right to attack. But only then? We don't live in a perfect world. That ICBM would land right in the middle of the most populated territory of America, that man who broke into you house would have killed your son. In either case the damage is done.

We fall into this ignorant soft hearted sensitivity. It is not good to go around shooting all potential threats, but there are threats that pose a clear and present. There is the man who calls you on the phone at three in the morning and tells you how much he would like to violate your wife and daughter. Do you just hang up on him and go back to sleep? No. You take action. You don't wait on him to act first, you call the police. Maybe he is just trying to scare you, can you risk it? Now we are looking at this thing from a larger level, on a planetary scale, who are the police that can be called when somebody calls up at 3 am and threatens to hurt America?

Imagine you lived a hundred years ago, a settler perhaps, living out in an obscure area. Somebody threatens to hurt your family. What do you do then? Wait around for it to happen? In this case there are no police to call. By your logic you would do nothing. By mine I would kill the guy first chance I got. You should not go around making threats and not expect anybody to take you seriously. I guess in our overly sensitive age we consider all threats idle threats. Threats are not something to be taken lightly. Neither by the giver or the reciever.

"integrity"

He he he.

Damn right! Rapist have the right to rape whoever they damn well please! I believe in truth and justic and the American way! Help, help I'm being repressed! Sadam was a good but very misunderstood man. It a vicous cycle you know. You wants to kill us, so we want to kill him to keep him from killing us? Does the maddness ever end? The solution is simple. Give up and let him kill our children in their sleep. Stop driving your SUVs! There destroying our world! Plug up the butts of your cows! Their farts are destroying our planets protective layers! GREEN HOUSE EFFECT!!!! GREEN HOUSE EFFECT!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!! Quick, into our tiny little hybrid cars! We've got to get out of this place! AHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! Oh wait, I did not have sexual relations with that woman! I swear! I swear to the American people and I swear to God. Least we forgot, I invented the internet! I gave it to you and I can take it away. (Anybody remember little Philo Farnsworth? His was a sad, sad story)

He he...

"Intergrity!"

"this is an incredibly sophisticated thread."

Yeah, I am impressed with the comments here. Maybe there is hope for the future after. Just maybe, but not likely.

And come on you guys, Hitler would have been perfectly content to hold only Europe. All that stuff he wrote about, just big talk. You don't really think he would have been crazy enough to ever actually delcare war on America would you? (Other than that one time, of course)

As a photographer, the one that always gets me is the bit about "theres no stars!"--have you ever tried to photograph stars using a motion picture camera? Whenever you see a starscape in a movie, its a special effect, because stars are too dim to expose at 1/48th of a second, especially on 1960's speed stock. The other bit about the flag "flapping in the wind"--yes, all those brilliant CIA conspiracy guys forgot to close the studio doors and a massive gust was whipping through the soundstage (whilst also undisturbing the sand and spacesuite costumes). I think this is all given legitimacy by that dispicably manipulative Fox television special in the late 90's that was in favor of this conspiracy.

Ah, that damn fox special. Awful. It showed during peak hours and brought so many people to the belief that the moon landing was bunk. Watched by millions of people who had no desire to look into the subject further, but rather to merely accept what they saw. There is another moon landing special produced by the BBC, it is quite good actually. It takes every one of the consiracy theorist claims and one by one debunks them, in the end rather than flat out saying the conspiracy theory is crap it invites the viewer to decide for themselves.

Who likes to go fishing?
Time
I went fishing everyday before work this summer. Catfish and large mouth bass, used nightcrawliers and stinkbate. Sometime I would use a small trout for bait if I happened to catch one by chance. I don't have any pictures though, didn't catch anything significant. I love getting up early and watching the water. Even if I don't catch anything, its worth it for the quiet time and the sunrise. I guess I better go and get my fishing license renewed sometime soon.

Yeah, I enjoy Crichton's writing too. I also became a fan when I first read Jurrasic Park. I have never read State of Fear, but I remember reading an article in "Parade" by Crichton back when it was first published, at the time I thought that I should pick it up when it comes out in paperback but I had forgotten about it until now. That one is now on my list of books to read in the next few months.

Jabba's Hookah: screen caps?
Time
I have never found any one prgram to suit my media playing needs. I love VLC, but I also use windows media player classic. My only complaint about VLC is its slowness to pause. On my system it always pauses a few frames late, which makes it harder to take screen grabs.

Ha ha when I first read the title of this thread "Jabba's Hookah" I thought you were talking about his dancing girls or slave Leia or something. If you say "Jabba's Hookah" out load, it really sounds like Jabba's Hooker.

I see you edited your last post. This is a wonderful function that lets you add more content to your posts without triple posting. Also calm down about the "Padawan Learner" thing. It isn't that big of a deal. I think you are the first one I have ever heard complain about it. It's still a fun place to post, if you can get over the whole Padawan thing. I guess we can be a little strict on protocol around here, sorry if you have not had the warmest welcome. So far most of your posts have been complaining, or things that get peoples backs up such as posting something under the wrong topic or like you little $5 gag when you asked about DVD software. You don't have to bait your threads to get us to read them. You seem to have a huge worry that we wont read what you post. Relax. Have a little patience and you'll be more popular around here. Oh, and welcome to the boards.
