I was thumbing through the comic book today, having heard many times from many places that this was scene for scene an adaption of the comic book, I was actually surprised with how different it was (don't take me the wrong way here, almost every panel of the comic is in the film, but the film add and takes liberties.)

What surprised me is some of the most comic bookish moments of the film were no place to be found. For instance the scene with the "orc" sort of thing, not in the comic. The scene with the fat beast with blade arms, not in the comic. Those two scenes were the fakest and silliest scenes in the film and neither were in the graphic novel (those to scenes made me feel like I was watching Van Helsing or something equally as poorly done). The comic is actually very serious compared to the movie. I really like them both (well, only read the first issue of the comic and thumbed through the rest, but it is very well done IMHO. This is coming from a guy who has never really been a fan of Frank Miller either).

There are a lot of fades. The ones I used in that clip are the same style fades used to transition to those scenes on the original DVD. I noticed with Revenge of the Sith they were extremely repetitive with their transitions. That closing circle one is used to transition to the funeral, then to the star destroyer scene, then to baby Leia, and finally to baby Luke. Probably the reason my transitions seemed weird is because I used womble with the cross-fade option.

The reason I didn't include anything of the birth of Vader is because I had keeping the "I am your father" revelation as best as possible in mind. I kind of like the first Darth Vader scene to be the part in Episode 4 where he bursts into the Tantive IV. I think that is a fantastic introduction scene. The birth of Vader felt like a rushed CG fest to me. It is like Palps had an instant Vader maker lying around for just such an occasion. Throw in the half dead, charred body of a fallen comrade and presto! Out pops your very own Sith Lord! I just didn't like how he spends a few minutes on the table as a bunch of droids throw artificial appendages on him, and slip a leather suit right onto his freshly burnt and still melty skin. Then he stands up and everything is fine. I would have imagined months of rebuilding with some of the republics finest physicians. I think it is kind of cool not to know what happens or even how he survives. In the next movie a new villian is introduced, and as time goes on we slowly learn it is actually Anakin.

Musicman, your idea for the music to reflect Anakin's inner turmoil is great. Pretty obvious to. Makes me wonder why I didn't think of it myself... or why it never crossed George's mind. That music would make an incredible improvement. Another thought I had once was to have Anakin in the chamber thinking things over and to have audio clips echoing through his head. Yoda telling him fear is the path to the dark side, Padme saying she loves his, Padme reassuring him she wont die, Anakin's mother's last words, I won't let you die Padme, the sith have even learned to keep people from dying. This line "keep people from dying" by Palpatine could echo a couple of time, music crescendos, Anakin takes off running to rescue his new master. His mind is made up. Sounds good on paper. That may be the best we can do. What do the rest of you think of the "verbal flashbacks"? Think they will work? Or would it be better to use just music?

What were your original expectations for the PT?
Time
Not really sure why you want me to bite you, but I am going to politely decline. Thanks anyway man.

I certainly think people have every right to like them or hate them. Yeah, it is truly a shame so many SW fans complain about the PT, because keystrokes save lives. Those keystrokes could have been used to feed countless starving children in the world. Those keystrokes could have been digging wells in South Africa.

I think people have plenty of right to hate them too. I grew up acting out the prequels with my action figures. My Return of the Jedi Luke with the one gloved hand always played the part of Anakin as he hunted down and killed various other figures who I pretended to be Jedi, since at that time there were only a hand full of Jedi. You would be amazed how many times my Luke figure killed my Sebastian Shaw figure (who was often choosen to play randon jedi). Back then there was only one lightsaber and that was my black handed Luke's green one. So I made other sabers out of colored paper clips, this way I could twist them around the figure hand so they could hold it.

So in other words, the prequels were played out millions of times with my figures, I dreamed of the prequels for years and had way too high expectations for them. After 1997 my expectation fell considerably, so you would have thought I would have been well prepared. I feel I have every right to dislike them. It is not that they didn't turn out to be the exact movies I played out with my SW toys when I was a kid, I never expected them to match the stories I had imagined up. It is that I have never waited so long for or invested as much interest in any up coming movie before, after all of that the prequels didn't only not live up to expectations, they were not only a let down, not only not as good as the originals, they SUCKED! They were magical world of disney or made for TV movie kind of quality.

It is not the point of "what better things would I have done with the 6+ hours spent watching them" but rather the extremely long wait for something followed by disappointment. It is that these are movies I REALLY wanted to like. Even if they were bad I REALLY wanted to like them. But they are SO bad I cannot justify liking them at all. It is pretty obvious what they really are, a squeezing of the teats of the cash cow till they are raw and nothing more, they were never intended to be anything more than just that.

Blade Runner = one of the most over-rated movies of all time.

Funny you should mention bananas and monkeys Cassidy, cause it looks like we got ourselves a nanner split. So where is this island full of honey male monkeys? And who is going to go pick up Nanner and drop his off there for his exciting dream vacation?

"I hope the fans will appreciate Hip Hop Yoda with a smile and laugh as much as the Star Wars team did during our Episode III 'monthlies' screening," Michel d'Annoville smiles. "Yoda is a wise, old Master Jedi who can always surprise us."

So is the break dancing Yoda now part of SW canon then? The article said George liked it after all, and it made the official DVD release.

As far as the Maul Grievouse thing, I have no input. The whole idea sounds a little EU to me, but I understand the purpose of making Grievous a valid character. If you guys have the tech and ability to pull it off, I will anxiously await seeing it.

As far as Anakin's turn to the dark side, and making it believable and logical. That is going to be, as everybody already knows, the most challenging and difficult part of this edit (right there along with Palp's face distortment, but they are in the same scene).

Has anybody had any new ideas on this recently? The best I can think of is for the turn to take place mentally while Anakin is staring out the window, then runs straight to the aid of Palpy, slashing Mace's hand off, then the "I pledge myself to you" line. Still pretty weak though, but it at least seems like he made a concious decision to turn. There is still no logic to be found though. I think it would be better to have Anakin kill Windu completely, with none of Palpatine's unlimited power crap, perhaps by knocking him off the edge. I guess that would involve editing out force lightning though.

A dream come true would be the release of the original scene where Palp grabs Anakin's lightsaber to fight off the Jedi while he stands and watches.

Anybody have any ideas on making Palpatine's transformation less lame?

Why did the Klingons bleed pink in that movie?

Red blood was too violent, so they made it pink instead. Every where else Klingons bleed red. I love how Star Trek fanboys try to make up excuses like the lack of oxygen, or some chemical that was released in the ship that turned the blood pink when mixed.

Whoa. That WAS an awesome movie. But now that I have seen it I can laugh even more at Marvolo's "stripping the film of its realism" comment (I am not getting on you man, I now what you meant). I think the style they did the blood fit the style of the film very well. It does feel like watching a comic book. But it hardly looks like real blood. It is very clearly CG, so I don't feel it makes the film seem more realistic by any means (really reminds me of Star Trek VI ), but what it does do it does well.

What were your original expectations for the PT?
Time
I never expected them to be as good as the OT, but I thought they would be great movies anyway. Also for some reason I had really expected them to mirror the OT, only with everything going wrong instead of right like it does in the OT.

I expected Episode One would be about the Clone Wars, already in full swing or perhaps their beginning. Jedi Knight Obi-Wan meeting young man named Anakin and to begin training him in the ways of the force, and Anakin proving himself to be a great hero by braving some impossible desperate battle, much like his son did in Ep. 4.

I expected Episode Two to have been about a little more desperate than the first one, kind of mirroring ESB. Anakin would be with his wife by now, during the big and desperate crisis we would have a dramatic Darth vs. Luke Bespin like fight, but this time instead of like Luke choosing death rather than the dark side, Anakin would be intrigued and want to learn more and would be corrupted. I thought the film would climax with Obi-Wan discovering his friend had turned to the dark side. Much like ESB ended with the heros preparing a search for Han, this would end with Obi-Wan's preparation to bring his friend back to the light, even though he has been told it is impossible, he is sure his friend still has good in him.

I always thought Episode Three would focus on Obi's trying to bring his friend back, and ultimately ending in disappointment and realization that his old friend was lost and nothing could be done to bring him back. I thought Obi-Wan would realize his friend was dead, perhaps after seeing how he is capable of slaughtering his old Jedi friends as he hunted them down one by one. I figured this would end with the famous battle with Obi-Wan that ended in Anakin falling into the lava/acid, but ultimately escaping.

A fanedit concept: Star Wars movies as a TV series? (* unfinished project *)
Time
Interesting. That would very much heighten your chances to remove a lot of scenes. You could probably even find a way to completely remove Grievous if you wanted to. Especially if every Ep. had its own mini crawl.

So are you going to show anything from Ep. 4-6 at all? Will the series end with at the end of ROTS? You said you would primarily use ROTS, so will the footage used from the other two prequels be flashbacks?

That clip from Erikstormtrooper's site was interesting. My idea had been to clip the whole thing to be a one on one showdown with Mace confronting Palps on his own, but putting the Anakin scene helps. I don't think any of the Jedi should be killed off screen though, it kind of cheapens the scene. I just wish all three of them did not have the EXACT same dying groan and look on there faces. The transformation of Palps is the impossible one though, no matter what is done it will still drag the quality of the movie down a few notches.

Anybody get a chance to watch the clips Marvolo and I posted?

I know this isn't related to the conversation at hand, but since we're talking about over-rated movies, I thought I'd bring this up. Am I the only one that thinks Blade Runner is vastly over-rated? I've managed to make it through once, but I don't think I could stomach a second viewing. Then again, I thought A Scanner Darkly was stupid as well, so maybe it's just that Philip K. Dick blows.

The first time I watched Blade Runner I barely managed to make it through the whole thing. After it was over I thought it was one of the worst pieces of crap I had ever seen. Over a year later I ended up seeing it for some reason, and I loved it. I don't know why, but the second had so much more to it.

I really like P. K. Dick's work too, he has some really great stuff. The guy was a total psycho (burnt out on drugs), but he really explorers some interesting themes in his works.

I know there are a good number of Blade Runner fans around here, anybody else feel it is better the second time around?
