It's interesting because it plays into the whole Anakin being obsessed with fixing things and resurrecting people from the dead, immortality and all that stuff that comes out in ROTS. Just knowing that little snippet of information, for me, suddenly makes Threepio way more relevant and a lot less cheezy.

Too bad it was never included in the story.

Hmm, sounds like revisionist history to me. Not saying that it could not be true, but given the track record of the whole honesty thing regarding the ever changing history of star wars, I'd say we have a pretty good reason for believeing those notes are not really from the 1970s.

Where did you get the "months of rebuilding" idea? Jedi Med School? Luke got a new hand like they had one waiting on the shelf for him. The way it's established in the movies-- their medicine either fixes people in a few minutes --or can't work at all. These guys fly from one star to the next as easily as we drive to the market. The one constant in Star Wars is that their technology is way beyond ours.

So, yeah-- it would be as easy as slapping some legs and arms on the body, making sure it can breathe, and then waking the poor bastard up. It could've been done nicer, but Palpatine is sadistic. "You killed your wife, dude." "No-o-o-o!"

Wow. I guess this is what Star Wars has been reduced to. Back in the days of the OT they didn't rush from star to start just like we go to the grocery store. It took them hours to get to Alderaan. In the PT they seem to get from location to location in seconds, very much like we drive to the super market. After Luke was throttled by a wompa he spent a good deal of time in a bacta tank, and still had to spend some time in bed. Technology may be beyond ours, but physics are still more or less the same, gravity still keeps them on the groud. That is when Sci-fi disconnects itself from the audience, when things go to far. Even in Star Trek they make an effort to explain how they can use technology to rebuild cells in an instant. BSG makes an effort to keep the audience closer to story by making the technology seem advanced, but yet familiar. In the OT everything made since. It made since that they could rid Luke of that nasty cut in a matter of a day so he could look nice and pretty before going to visit Yoda, because they established the bacta tanks and we got the impression that they had technology to speed up the healing process.

In ROTS, they through the poor guy into a leather suit. Okay, fine that works. Technology that works in a matter of minutes. By way would Palps have this suit lying around? And why would it happen to be just the right size for Anakin? The Luke loosing his hand argument is a weak one, because he was on a medical ship, it would make sense they would have a few prosthetic hands lying around. No to mention by the time they were fitting his hand it is very clearly implied that a good deal of time has passed. The Falcon is all fueled up and ready to go, not to mention completely repaired from the awful mess it is in throughout the entire film. Threepio is completely put back together. Also Luke is no longer in the feverish state from the shock and trauma of loosing an appendage, but actually looks pretty healthy, like maybe he had a couple of days of rest under his belt. That Jedi Med school thing was also a pretty stupid comment. I didn't say I know it would take months of rebuilding, I said I would have imagined it would take several months of rebuilding. I just think the idea that you can throw a special suit on him that will perfectly accomodate all his needs based on his injuries and have him up and ready to fight Jedi in less than a day is pretty childish. Kind of disappointing for such a culturally significant character as Darth to have such a lame creation. You couldn't even with a streatch of the imagination say a good deal of time has passed between the incident and Anakin's rebuilding, because it is intercut between shots of Padme giving birth to the babies and loosing the will to live (another terrible childish idea), this indicates the scene took place then and there. Especially since we know it took no time at all for Obi-Wan and Threepio to get her to the medical facility, since they can get there as quickly as we can go to the grocery store. It isn't even an issue about believeability, but rather a question of good idea or bad idea.

I considered this potential danger before posting. But I figured I am trying to coin a term in the guys honour, he ought to be flattered. If they do come back, then the boards will get a bit lively for a couple of days with a pathetic display of "TFNish" (that is another phrase I would like to see come into wide usage) language and immaturity and eventually die back down to normal. We survived their invasion once, we could do it again.

Yes, there are many more of them than us. And no, I doubt we could count on our very differently minded larger population of SW fans to come to our aid. We would be on our own. I have measured the ratio between them and us, just in case they do plan another invasion, and we are out numbered many times over, still, those are good odds for any SW fan!

Do guys know what really sucks? We don't have members dedicated enough to spent time monitoring the interwebs for any abuses of our name. I mean, fanedited.com trash talked us all the time and yet we never once invaded them. What? Have we no balls? We ought to be running campaigns against every single message board who so much as mentions our name in an unrespecting manor. What say you all?

Made for TV movies just have an air about them. I know some big screen movies blow, but made for TV are pretty much B movies. I was surprised that we do things like that, something that isn't good enough for us we ship over to you.

I have to disagree about the Ewok movies not being better on the big screen, if they had been then they would have had a larger budget, which would have helped some. And they would have brought in more people to run over the script. You can be sure the stop motion stuff would have been better done.
They have a severely made for TV feel about them, if they were filmed for a theatrical release, that feel would at least not be there.

(Ironically, the third proposed Ewok film was scrapped because they were getting too expensive to make!) It can be good or bad depending on the film in question. Gene Roddenberry did a tv movie pilot called "Spectre" in the 1970's that is supposed to be a lot more steamy and gory in it's European theatrical cut! The original Battlestar Galactica three-hour pilot was recut and shown in theaters. (In Sensurround!) In the wake of Bruce Lee mania, several Green Hornet episodes were recut into movies. The Man From UNCLE actually shot new footage to make some two-parters into movies. And wasn't "Das Boot" originally a miniseries for German televison?
The old SW fan club had "Caravan of Courage" posters for sale back in the day, so it wasn't a big secret or anything.

It is just that in America made for TV movies are not considered to be worth a whole lot. We often make fun of them. The idea of a made for TV movie being released in the cinema would be outragous in the states. Yeah, I remember BSG was released in Europe theatrically, I think but I could be wrong, that it actually hit theaters there before airing here. And I think the one you guys got was actually cut, whereas the one aired in the US was complete, but again I could be wrong in this one, I think I remember hearing that though.

Yes, but it is a good excuse. It is the same thing as blaming public school teachers or bullies on the playground for your childrens failures in life. I was bulied, anybody here wasn't? We're doing okay right? We are not going around shooting people or blowing them up. I also played Doom a bit back in the day, and my dad owned a gun. Strangely I never took it to school and killed people. Fancy that. Oh, and there are countless movies I have not seen in the theater, and oddly this is not because I pirate them.

All these things are scape goats. Blame somebody else or something else for the probelms. We don't want to make good movies, but it is the pirates faults. My child is a phychotic killer, but that is id softwares fault, oh and the bullies at school are at fault for this too.

It is very sad that statistically African Americans accomplish less than cacasians. There are a lot of whites that don't go anywhere in life either. Success takes motivation. Motivated people succeed, unmotivated people fail. The parents have a massive amount of influence over their kids, I think it is their duty to motivate them and make sure they know what the world has to offer them, regardless of what others tell them. It is also the individuals responsibilty to push them selves to succeed. This should not be a color or a race issue, this should be a human issue. Going around saying it is the fault of white people that black children don't grow up and succeed as often and white kids do, is a fruitless accusation. You are only widening the gap between the two races. You would think by now that gap should be shrinking, but I think it is things like this recent radio incident is what keeps the wound from healing. It is like picking at the scab, reopening the wound and watching blood ooze out. If we tear down the barriers, things might get better (a little and slowly), but if it is not one side of the race it is the other who insists on keeping the wall fully erect. Of course, this is all totally the fault of white people, simply because they make a good scape goat.

It is ashame we all have to live down the sins of our fathers. I shall forever have to answer for the crusades because I am Christian, and for slavery because I am white, though I took part in and lived through neither.

Yeah, I agree. I would love for davytod or somebody to capture it and make a movie. I would love to see a real movie based off the game. It has some great possibilities. A lot of really interesting themes were visited in that game. Though I disagree about Pixar being the idea makers. I think Grim Fandango was great how it was, and for it to be a Pixar movie it would have to be watered down a bit, I think it is too mature for Pixar. I think good old fasion stop motion might suit it better than CG. Of course this is all pointless since the chances of it making it the the big screen is none. It is sad such great stories are destined to be lost and forgotten in the past.

Anybody read Ron Gilbert's blog? I really enjoy it because he doesn't update too often, and he keeps his musing short. So if I check the sight every six months or so I can skim through all the new entries in a very short time and sometimes come out on the other end with some interesting info of some of my favorite games of all time. This blog was the place were he admited basing Monkey Island on Tim Power's novel On Stranger Tides rather than on the Disney Land ride as he has always claimed in interviews. His last entry had some interesting stuff regarding Maniac Mansion. He said he was watching a clip over the internet of Maniac Mansion being beat in under 9 minutes, and how it brought back many memories for him. It was interesting to talk about the way some things were in the game and why. At the end he mentioned that he considered making a commentary for videos like that one of maniac mansion, then he said he decided against it. But how great would that be? A creators commentary on all those old adventures! I would sit through each and every one and enjoy every minute of it.

Man, they really rip you guys off overseas. Theatrically releasing a made for TV movie. I hope they don't pull that kind of crap anymore. It looks like that may have been the point where they changed the name to Caravan of Courage. I had never even heard that name until I saw the DVD on store shelves. Every VHS release and TV showing in America has been titled "The Ewok Adventure".

We were invaded by orcs?! That was pretty cool. In commemoration of the event, I am thinking of coining a new endearing insult. It will go something like this, "dude you're such a total bisciut!" or "why do you have to be such a total buscuit" or "stop being a total biscuit and get over here and help me."

I really like it, I think it has a nice ring to it. I imagine if we all work together we can get it integrated into popular slang by the year 2010 or so. All we have to do is use it from time to time in the appropriate situation, and it is sure to catch on.

Now the question is: what should it mean exactly? Does it mean lazy? Or is it more like the term "dork"? Or perhaps a "goof off"? Or, perhaps it should mean geek. I am just not sure. Anybody else have any suggestions?

Not meaning to drag this thread even further off topic but honestly, the difference between here and there is like day and night. It is a public forum you are going to get posts like, "I'm 12 an I <3 SrtAwarzz - do U thing iz gross that Luke kisses Leia cuz when I kiss my sisster iTs' knot grosss at all."

It is public forum and SW attracts a lot of preteen fans. At least the majority of members don't sound like ten year olds. I guess I don't spend much time in the General SW thread to have become as bitter about this place as you seem to have. My luker and early days were spend soley in the preservation areas because that is my interest. In recent times I have been drug into the pointless world that is the Off-Topic sections, but it is still a rare thing for me to visit the General SW discussion, just because I really don't care that much. I have never seen anything in here even comparable to the childishness of that place.

Yeah, I really hate that Yoda - Palp duel. It would be great to have it removed, but like you said it comes pretty rough. You know, in every other movie you can cut out all the lightsaber scenes and past them together and they look incredible smooth. Not a missed beat. This is true for ESB, ROTJ and TPM, ANH is the only one that comes a little rough, but it isn't much a fight anyway. Yet the one fight out of all the saga that could benefit from such cutting, and it is impossible. The ROTS fight is very disconnected. You really have to have shots between it, because one second they are in one room, then in the very next shot they are in another. I can't stand seeing Yoda with his lame short little saber. It just doesn't look right. The fights look forced, with the other almost bending down in order to meet Yoda's blade like a father play dueling with his little six year old son.

jedi_jra, I for one would still be interested in seeing your clip.

Believe it or not having just clicked RSS's link to TF.n marks my very first visit to their forums. And holy crap are those TFN guys dicks! What a bunch of friken children. Next time somebody here says that OT.com has degraded to the quality of TF.n I can now say with compete confidence that were are nothing like them at all. It is like visting a playground full of 4th graders. What a worthless bit of webspace.

I like how they complained that you broke rules and made a list of them all. Friken Nazis. Interesting that they have a "Cool Ideas thread" (damn childish name too) where everyone can post their creative ideas so that nobody have to read them, unless they feel like pissing on someone. I suppose the vast majority of all posts on OT.com would have to be placed there. Imagine the Phatom Editor posting some great idea about editing the Phantom Menace himself there. He would have gotten replies like "OMG, not another 1!!!!!!!!! LOLZ!!!!1"

That was a bit of culture shock. Safe to say I will never venture into that domain again. Almost lost my faith in humanity. Hmm, I am suddenly very ashamed to be an SW fan.

Most Liberal and Conservative movies
Time
Here son, take a puff of this.

Hmm, yeah, that just might work. If you feel like going to prison.

Firefly I think can go either way. It has the whole cowboy thing, and cowboys in America are considered very conservative. They have their guns and value their freedom. You also have the whole outlaw theme and the oppressive government theme going on. Liberals are control freaks, whereas conservatives are very much interested in individual freedom, something the crew of the Serenity is also quite fond of. Then you have the gov. in Firefly which is depicted as evil and it is very U.N.ish in that it is a one world/one universe government, something the conservative are typically very against.

This is what C3PX did in his awesome edit except for the conversation about Luke's fate. He posted the link below, but here it is again.

I watched the video. A little jarring at times, but pretty decent.

Just thought I would pipe in real quick to say that that clip was not meant as a show case of my editing abilities. I threw it together in just a few minutes in order demonstrait one possible way both the Darth and Leia things could be preserved to some extent. So don't focus on the jaring bits (like the droid, I was focusing on trimming his dialogue, not his movements), but rather the sequence of things. If I took the time I could make a seemless edit as far as the picture goes, unfortunately music editing is far beyond me. I have no ear for music, so what sounds good to me sounds awful to someone else. This is why I have never bothered making any edits. But I still like to play around with ideas and see what works.

Zion, you may be dishing out a lot of $100 plus inflation. Especially if someone stumbles across this fifty years from now and reads what you wrote and decides to cash in claiming to be one of us.

Stinky, that article is awsome. Through all my childhood I expected great things from the year 2000. Unfortunately I still don't own a hover car, nor have I taken that trip to Mars I was intending on taking. I hate to say it, but the year 2000 really blew.
