Now that is something I would not even do.

As far as Lucas not even liking directing, when was it that he said that? (I am not suggesting he never said it, I am just wondering what year it was that he said that). He sure has directed a lot of movies for a guy who doesn't like directing. And whether he enjoyed directing back then or not, it didn't seem to stop him from doing it, and I still honestly believe he would have gone on directing had he not taken the path that he had.

It shows. In our past signitures as well as your current one, and in a good deal of your posts.

Why is the concept of giving up something good for something better such a shocking/insane/idiotic one? The guy made some great movies, then nothing but Star Wars. He had a lot of great potential. Too bad it was never fully tapped into. I would have liked to see what this up and coming young director could have done as he matured, but instead of Star Wars remaining just one of many impressive films he had done, it became a creative constipation.

If that is so insane, then show me to my rubber room because I'm as mad as a hatter.

I am blown away by how you still haven't managed to understand what I was saying. Anyway, there is nothing idiotic about my statement, especially the part you quoted. At least others are able to relate to the feelings of Francis Ford Coppola and myself.

It is funny how my statement about wishing to see what great things Lucas could have done if SW had not gotten in his way was one of the most Lucas sympathetic posts I have ever posted, and the Lucas gusher still manages to take the opposite stance just for the sake of arguing.

A new petition isn't going to do anyone any good. What, you think if we revise the old one with the words "High Def." or anamorphic" added then he'll realize that we meant we wanted something in watchable quality and fix his mistake? And what is unmovie related about a thread in the 'General Star Wars Discussion' (Star Wars being the title of a movie) and about a Television spin off of Star Wars (a movie) which is becoming the new distraction from Lucas making his 'artsy films that nobody will like' that he has been talking about for so long, which is what we were currently discussing. It is very related. And I don't think there is any new news about the spin-off that we have not yet discussed.

Okay, that is good the controller ports are the same, it wouldn't make much sense for them to be different. Not sure why I dreamed that up. Excite Bike was one of the best games, I loved being able to make my own courses. That was way before level editors were common. I hated how when you raced with computer players you would constantly find guys in front of you, even though you were in first place, but on the other hand it was fun having guys around to knock over.

Any one else ever see those third party consoles that can play old NES games? There is also one that can play both NES and SNES games on the same console. I wonder how well those work.

Damn, one idiot misunderstanding my post knocked this whole conversation in a dumb direction. (And just to clairify and avoid offending anyone, the idiot was not you Mielr, but his name is mentioned in the above quote.)

and unrelated to my above comment, for all you saying you wouldn't give up EBS, I have long proclaimed ESB as my favorite SW film, it is brilliant in most regards. But the older I get the more I think he went in the wrong direction with the "I am your father thing", but that on its own is not enough to hurt the film. What really hurts ESB is ROTJ, which is a pretty silly piece of work in comparison to its two older brothers. SW and ESB are great classic sci-fi, but ROTJ, while it has some brilliant parts, to me it is sullied by all the crap you have to sift through to get to those great parts. And ESB is hurt by having no conclusion save from ROTJ, but SW is not effected at all by either of them (unless you count the addition of the "Episode IV: A New Hope" subtitle).

.....and it's probably true that even if SW '77 were the only SW film, GL would still have screwed around with it.

Maybe, he does tend to screw with most of his films, even the relatively unpopular ones. He screwed with THX 1138 and he added a CG sunset to American Graffiti. He was pretty quick to add the "A New Hope" subtitle to Star Wars and the "Indiana Jones and the ..." to a film that was once just called "Raiders of the Lost Ark". But would the screwing with have been as bad? He would have had to come up with an entirely new character for Jabba, as the slug like version from ROTJ would have never existed. And what is to say Star Wars would have remained in demand enough to warrant a theatrical re release worthy of all the time and effort put into the SE? Even if he did put Jabba in the film in some form or another, I don't think it would have been as big of a deal, because that was a real deleted scene from the movie. A pretty cool, but redundant one though. Even if the CG Jabba would have been as it is now, it wouldn't have been a big deal because it would be the only Jabba we would ever know. But in all honesty, I am not so sure Lucas would have choosen to put it back in had the character not been established in ROTJ. At any rate, I don't think the PT changes would have been as annoying in this alternative reality. You never know really. Perhaps the only reason he made "improvements" to THX and Graffiti was because he had already begun the habbit with the SW trilogy. Maybe if the SE wouldn't have happened, THX director's cut or Graffiti's Sunset would not have happened.

But again, this was not the point of my "wishing the SW sequels had never happened", my point was that I would have liked to have seen what else ol' George had in him, rather than seeing him become an object of lust for Rick McCallum and an object or worship for a fanbase of rabid SW fans.

I'm blown away by that comment.

Yeah, and I am blown away by how you managed to completely miss the point of my post. I didn't say that based on a deep seated hate of the PT, I said it in the context that I would have liked to see what else George could have come up with if he had merely made a successful sci-fi film and moved on rather than dwelling on it for the rest of his life. I am a fan of Lucas' early work, I would have liked for it to continue.

I also said that it would be nice to be able to say, "I like Star Wars" and not have to explain what parts of it I like. Another thing "don't watch the PT and presto!" wouldn't quite work for. Trust me, I don't watch the PT, and it still ain't goin' anywhere.

Man, three bucks for an NES 2, that's a steal. I had planned on replacing my NES with an NES 2 for years, I was just waiting to find a cheap one, of course now I don't need one. The biggest thing I have against the NES 2 is the different controller style. I like my old boxy controllers. The ports are different shapes too right? I could be wrong on that, but as I recall they are different, which would mean no zapper or powerpad.

Hmm, I have never heard of Rogue Galaxy, but I just looked it up and IGN gave it a good review. Sounds like it is worth $7 bucks at any rate.

I refurbished my NES for $8 including shipping. I can't believe how well it works now! It is JUST like new, no exaggeration. That thing had 'blinking red light' so bad that I thought my copy of Super Mario Brothers 3 was broken because no matter what I did I could never get it to work while other games would. So SMB 3 was the first game I tried, I plugged it in, and turned it on, and it played without a hitch.

I just replaced the connector inside the system. I got a brand new one off ebay for $8 including shipping. They are plentiful on ebay if anybody wants a functioning Nintendo again I can reassure you this is the way to go. I was considering buying a top loading NES II, but the original front loading unit is a lot cooler. Alright, I am going to go waste some time on Duck Hunt now.

Too true and it wasn't worth it. As much as I love Empire Strikes Back, I could have lived without it. It would have been nice to be able to say "Star Wars is a great movie" and have (a.) not every one know what movie you are talking about and (b.) not have to worry about those who do know what you are talking about think of SW as a disjoined series of six films of inconsistent qualities and styles, but rather a single cult sci-fi film from the late seventies.

Yeah, I for one loved watching the sex scenes in THX 1138 when I was a kid, rest of the movie seemed pretty boring to me though. My favorite part was trying to figure out which one was the guy and which one was the girl, it was pretty hard to tell with both of them being as hairless as naked mole rats.

Okay, Star Wars was fun for kids and adults, and so was Raiders (though perhaps for slightly older kids), but I would categorize Graffiti and THX as more mid/late teen to adult. I don't know of too many kids with American Graffiti on their Christmas list.

Yeah, but if you have seen Robot Chicken SW special then there was also the sketch with Boba hitting on frozen Han. But then again that was the EP II Jangotrooper clone Fett. I tried to find a clip of it on youtube but I couldn't find that part.

Yup. When SF II came out I remember we were always wondering where the first one was because no one had ever heard of it, and we figured if the second one was as awesome as it was, then the first one had to be pretty good.

‘Artist’ Chains Up Dog Until It Dies… Is This Art? Or Animal Abuse?
Time
There is really nothing that could even be considered anything like art in this. Animals can suffer and die in the wild by natural occurences. Does that mean if I dig up a tree and place it in a gallery I could claim it to be art? That would be absurd. A tree is something that occurs naturally, I had nothing to do with any of it, therefore I cannot claim it as my work of art. This whole dying dog nonsense is the same thing, natural occurences, the "artist" did nothing. If he drew a picture of a suffering dog, that would be different, just as it would be different if I drew a picture of the tree. Man, if this had been in America...
Arnie is right about it showing some cultural differences, I think in most modern, well developed countries this would not fly too well.

My friend once gave me one of his old DB Z DVDs, he told me he never liked Dragonball Z until he watched that particular episode, then he became a fan and really enjoyed it. I tried to sit through that whole episode, I really did, but I just couldn't make it. But I am by no means an anime fan to start with, I don't even watch cartoons other than Simpsons, Futurama and an occasional episode of Family Guy. So since that is not my sort of thing to start with, there really was little to no chance of me ever liking it. I do have Dragonball Z Budakai Tenkacti 2 (sorry, have no idea how it is really spelled) for my PS2 though, and it is a pretty fun multiplayer fighting game, I just have no idea who any of the characters are.

Americans just dislike real football because they suck at it. So instead they call it soccer and make it a girls sport.

Moth3r is right though, let's not hijack the American College Padded Rugby thread. We all have our reasons we like or dislike one or the other, and none of those reasons really matters.

It bores the hell out of me, and I don't like watching or playing it, but I know plenty of people who do, and I am happy for them. My only annoyance is the fact they they choose the name "football", when there is in fact very little contact between the foot and the ball. And I hate the name soccer.

When did the Jedi become monks?
Time
EU started the every Jedi wears Obi-Wan robes thing??? When? I remember in Tales of the Jedi the ancient Jedi had their own unique look, some of them may have warn robes, but they were very different style than the Obi-Wan and later every Jedi robes from the films, they were usually more of a hooded cloak with normal clothes on under. Every Jedi had their own unique thing going on. Then in Luke's Jedi academy they all wore coveral sort of school uniforms, not robes. What part of the EU had them all wearing robes? I used to read a bit of EU before the prequels and I remember being surprised and annoyed to see every single Jedi dressing like Obi-Wan, also it makes Obi-Wan even more intelligent being one of the last Jedi in hiding and not wanting to be discovered, and yet stubbornly sticking to his tradition Jedi garmets. Which, convieniently, seem to be kind of popular in Mos Eisely during ANH.

I think the stupid PT ought to be ignored as well as the majority of the EU. While there is a lot of crappy EU, which is inevitable considering the vast amount of it, there is also quite a bit of it which is much more enjoyable and in line with the OT than the PT ever was. Good EU may be hard to come by, but good PT has already been proven to be a myth.

Oh, well I only guest it might have been a copy paste because it felt incomplete. Its fallacy lies in the fact that there has to be a common Word of God from which all three are interpreting in their own way, like Court Justices with the Constitution. In your analogy there is no "Constitution" from which these three religions are interpreting from. There was the Hebrews collection of holy scriptures, which predates both Christianity and Islam. Then you have Christianity branch off of Judaism, with Christ coming and claiming that he is the son of God and the Messiah come to fill Jewish prophecy. Then several hundred years later Muhammed is born and invents Islam by taking aspects from both Judaism and Christianity in order to get people to die for his cause. So yes, they are all related, but they are far from different interpretations of one "Word of God", rather it is that each is built off the others before it.

That is a bunch of bullshit actually. How could the Quran be a different outcome from the word of God? What exactly is the word of God? Tell me what the source is that is being interpreted differently by each of these groups? In fact that whole analogy is just ignorant and pointless in every way. Was it suppose to be making some sort of point? Or is it just copypasta from some other forum?

Yeah, what you said Chaltab is about what I suspected about the Prime games. Glad to hear the GB Advanced games are good. Someday I will get an SP and when I do those iwll probably be the first I get. Man, I wish there was away to unlock the old NES Metroid without having a GBA and Fusion. It would be fun to be able to play that again without having to hook up my old NES.
