Mark Hamill "ready to evacuate" his Malibu home.
Time
Yes, his there is nothing left of his home. Though it was not in the path of the wild fires, seems to be an act of arson. There were bantha tracks at the site, and all evidence points to Tuskien raiders, but there are some people that have been speculating that it might actually be a government conspiracy, something about only Imperial Storm Troopers being so precise, and sandpeople normally walking single file while the tracks at the location of Mark's former house are scattered. Hope they find out who did it.

Just in the unlikely event that someone should think to take me seriously, all that was a bunch of crap and I honestly have no idea about the current situation of Mark's home, hopefully it is okay.

Fantasy novels being Made into movies for big and small screen
Time
Yeah, Omega Man would definately fit into the campy science fiction category. And yes it is based off the book I Am Legend, there was also another movie based off the book called The Last Man on Earth, and it was much more faithful to the book with the major exception of the infected being zombies instead of vampires. Omega Man really had very little in common with the source material other than a few major plot points. The book would generally be categorized as horror, not sci-fi. In fact, the vampires are not even true demonic undead vampires, but infected people who once infected by some ancient germ take on the characteristics of vampires. Matheson, through the main character in the book makes an atempt to demythologize the vampire and rationalize it scientifically. The vampires are actually only a side plot in the novel, the true antagonst of the book is loneliness as the main character finds himself the unfortunate lone survivor of a world wide pleague, and has to cope with the reality of being the last man on earth. Sure it is a stretch to call this a fantasy novel, mostly I just didn't feel like starting a new thread and figured this one would do well enough, but the novel does have some elements common to a lot of fantasy stories, such as the character finding himself in a new world filled with strange, frightening and dangerous beasts. The weight of the survival of the human race resting on the main characters shoulders, as he never really gives up hope in discovering a way to cure the infected. If the story were to take place in medieval times, it would probably pass as fantasy without too many people questioning it.

"the kickass mystic ninjas did a podcast on it"

On the book I Am Legend or the film The Omega Man?

The Omega Man is a fun to watch movie, I have liked it for a long time, but it is just plain campy. It really doesn't do the book any services, and it is unfortunate that many people on the internet are going around calling this new film a remake of The Omega Man. The Omega Man was VERY loosely based off the novel, it took a few ideas from it and left the rest. The movie is much closer to the original ideas of the novel, though still a long ways off, the new movie actually follows the plotline of the book to a good degree, while taking a lot of liberties and adding large chunks here and there. Omega Man took liberties on every single aspect of the story, save for the name of the protagonist. The Omega Man was so different they probably could have gotten away without paying any royalties to the writer of the book.

What programs do you use to secure your PC?
Time
I would highly recommend trying out some of the free ones before paying for something. AVG is free, simple and it doesn't feel like it takes over your entire computer like other virus protection sometime do. You have complete control over it, and once you have it set up you will hardly remember it is there. Ad-aware is the same way, but even more simple that AVG. Between the two of these, I have never had any problems. I am sure some of the programs that you pay for might work better, or be an all-in-one solution, but why pay for what you can get for free. I have been using the free version of AVG Anti-virus for years, and I have noticed a lot more people seem to be switching over to it. Keep in mind, there is a premium version for both of these programs that does cost money, if you go to download it make sure it is the free edition.

What happened to the live-action show?
Time
A one hundred episode contract is quite a commitment too. If I am not mistaken contracts are usually for a number of episodes or a season, not the full run of a series, once the show becomes successful then they renew the contract for a longer period. Just to put this into perspective, Star Trek the Next Generation ran for 178 episodes over the course of 7 seasons. A 100 episode contract would be about five years. I am pretty sure this whole thing is fake, do we have evidence that Rick really said these things? Even the thing about the wait for the next DVD being for the format war to end, this is what many have been speculating, but if this had really officially be announced it seems like it would be all over the place.

Of course with the whole 50 episode thing with the CG Clone War thing, I guess I couldn't put it past them to be arrogant enough to think their series could last 400 episodes before ever airing. This series could be great, it could last ten years for all we know, it could have great writing and be nothing like the PT at all. It could have great writers and great actors and be outright fantastic. But this is not the way a TV series is usually done, if this is true it is hard to believe people that have been in this business for so long.

How many horror comedys staring Bruce Campbell do you wan't? Actually if they were to make a sequel to Army of Darkness, they could continue off of the "I slept too long" ending where he wakes up far into the future, and have a similiar last survivor sort of story. No that you mention it, it would be a fun film having Bruce running around cutting up vampires via chainsaw by night, searching for other survivors by day and spending years reading studying science text books so he can solve the myster of the germ and make a cure.

Anyway Sean, you seem to be into reading, I highly recommend the book I Am Legend. It is by a guy named Richard Matheson and your library will probably have it, it is a short book and a quick read, it is a lot better than the movie will be, and you could always use your imagination to imagine Bruce Campbell in the role. Which would be interesting. I ought to read the book again and try that.

While I don't disagree about all that being pretty unlikely, I learned via the Lost podcast that each episode of Lost is scored via orchestra. So I guess some shows do. But yeah, Williams is pretty unlikely, but then again, Georgie has a ton of dough.

Fantasy novels being Made into movies for big and small screen

Getting back on topic sort of, I Am Legend, though it is not a "fantasy" novel as we usually think of fantasy these days, or in the sense all the other movies mentioned in this thread have been, it does contain fantasy elements. It is coming out on December 14th. It fits more in the "survival horror" genre, though I hesitate to categorize it as horror since it is so much more than that. A story about the last man on earth kind of fits the definition of fantasy. It is one of my absolute fovorite books. The new trailer for this was just released a week ago or so. The more footage from it I see, the more excited about it I get. This is a film I will be seeing on opening night. Here are the trailers on youtube, if you are only going to watch on of them, watch the very last one.

Going in for a job interview soon.....
Time
Well, my advice would be to ask your employer, or whoever is directly above you if that would be okay. Back when I was in college I had had jobs where I was allowed to use headphones. It really depends on the kind of job usually. If it is the type of job where you just have to press a button every 17 seconds (yes, I had that job once), or cleaing up a construction site, raking leaves, jobs that don't require your ears, etc. then there isn't much of a reason for them not to. If it is the kind of job where you will be working with or even around customers, or in a dangerous area where your ears might be of use for the sake of keeping yourself and others out of danger, or where you need to be able to hear your boss, etc. then it would be pretty reasonable for them not to allow you.

Whatever the case is, I would not recommend doing it discretely or trying to hide it (like under your hood for example), sooner or later somebody will notice, and chances are you will have a fellow employee or two that don't like you and would be happy to get you in trouble... or any other number of cases, and if it is against the rules then you might risk losing the job.

Star Wars Halloween Costumes.
Time
My wife's work had a Halloween party sort of thing for employees and their kids. It was mostly for the kids actually. They came dressed in their costumes and got free candy. Since we don't have kids, my wife was one of the ones organizing it and helping. Anyway, I dropped by for a bit to check on my wife and see how things were going, and I noticed that the most popular costumes this year are pirates, fairy princesses, superheros, and Star Wars. The demograph of kids ranged from infants to about eight or nine years olds. The thing that really surprised me was that mixed in with all the Jack Sparrows, Will Turners, symbiote Spideys, and buff Superman Returns supermen, were tons of little Luke Skywalkers, Darth Vaders, Princess Leias, a Chewbacca or two (though not a single Han???:confused, a fair number of Ewoks, and a couple of Boba Fetts. And that was only during the short time I was there. The only PT era Star Wars character I saw were two Anakins, both were really tiny kids, and a girl dressed as a Clone Trooper. Just those three. And I couldn't even count the number of Lukes, Vaders and Leias I saw.

I guess this shows how timeless the OT is when kids prefer to dress as OT characters rather than PT characters. I was really surprised, since most costumes were from very recent films (Spider-man 3, Pirates of the Caribbean), I would have expected more PT costumes.

I think it is still on the table. Unless the 100 episode 100% CG fest not being grabbed right away caused them to reconsider. Personally, if I were to have to watch Star Wars on TV, I would rather have 95% CG (which is what Lucas calls live-action), than the full out cartoony CG thing. But I honestly don't care one way or another, just one more nail in the coffin as far as I am concerned.

I don't think Star Trek should really be allowed in the whole "movies whose sequels were better" list since I think all 9 of the sequels, as well as a good quantity of episode from every series of ST were actually considerably better than Star Trek: The Motion Picture, which I felt was just plain bad.

Movies you watch during the Halloween season
Time
Yeah, I am not a horror movie fan, but Halloween has always been a movie that has intrigued me precisly for that slight Hitchcockian feeling. I haven't even bothered considering the possibility of seeing the new film. From what I have heard Rob Zombie just took the character and turned him into a Jason/Freddy/Leatherface esque slasher flick monster, when before I felt there was a lot more to him than that.

Speaking of movies for the Halloween season, wasn't Bruce Campbell's My Name is Bruce suppose to be out in October of 2007? I even looked at his official website and it still says Oct. 2007, but no exact date. Anybody know what the deal is with this? I am assuming by the fact that I have not heard anything new about it that it wont be around for a while yet.

Fantasy novels being Made into movies for big and small screen

He mentioned Back to the Future. Though I must disagree about only the first one being good, I rather enjoyed all three. Though looking at everything Robert Zemeckis has ever written or directed, the BTTF trilogy are the only ones I have really enjoyed. I didn't care for Gump, and Cast Away was just painful IMHO. Sure, Hanks did an amazing job acting when he had no one to act with other than a vollyball, but the whole lone cast away thing isn't the most exciting story in the world.

Anybody see the poster for the second Narnia movie? I don't know how long it has been out for, but I only saw it for the first time the other evening. I am a fan of the books and I really don't get that worked up about the films, in fact I not even sure if I have seen the first film more than once, but seeing the poster is kind of exciting. The movie is scheduled for May 16th. Kind of disappointed that the next one won't be along until 2010.

I dunno, just in the way that you wrote it it seems more like a "haha you got pwnd!!!!1" than a true expression of interest in our explainations as to why we believe what we do. As for you not being able to wait, all four of us who voted yes gave the exact same reason why in here as we did in the other. So really rather than going through the waiting that you couldn't, you could have just reread our posts in the other thread. This very reason is why I infered that you were wanting us to explain why we are so vastly out numbered on the poll, rather than explain why we said yes, which you already knew.

If I was mistaken then I am sorry.

I could care less if you've gotten pwnd! I am interested in the reasoning as to why erasing one of the greatest flicks of all time would be worth it if it meant no more CGI Jabba the Hutt

Well, we have already given you our reasoning behind it in the other thread. Just doesn't make sense for you to ask for it again. If you haven't understood it by now, you wont ever. And if you have read our reasoning then you should know by now that it has very little to do with "no more CGI Jabba the Hutt", in fact, I addressed that one directly in one of my posts.

Just to clarify to everyone else, this topic did not come about through a deep seated hate of the SE and PT. I am fine with their existence, I can ignore them and not watch them. I grew up with the trilogy, and I loved all of them, including ROTJ as a kid. Both Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back are often placed as examples of great sci-fi films. Now it is harder for them to be taken seriously because they no longer stand on their own without all the extra baggage. As Zombie has said, the name Star Wars has gone from greatness to just another cheap sci fi franchise like Star Trek. It is not that I would trade ESB for everything else to just go away because my hate of those others out weights my love of ESB. It is not even about trading anything for anything. It was just a silly hypothetical idea of "what if", and would it have been better. Let's try posing it this way,

Multiple Choice. Please select the most appropriate answer from the selection below

1.

A). Star Wars is a cheap science fiction franchise indistinguishable by many from Star Trek. While these films are fun to watch, they are nothing more than mindless entertainment.

B). Star Wars is a classic sci-fi film from 1977, and an example of excellent fantasy film making, in the same ranks as The Wizard of Oz.

2.

A). George Lucas, a phenomenal director with a vast collection of groundbreaking films, fitting in the ranks with Alfred Hitchcock and Stanley Kubrick.

B). George Lucas is a director who once displayed potential for greatness in his earlier films before he got involved in the Star Wars franchise and proceeded to do nothing else. His films are known for childish poop jokes, incoherent plot lines, bad dialog, bad actors, and bad writing and an extreme lack of imagination in his later work. He is also known as an amazing business man. Due to the success of his earlier work, he was able to independently finance his later work, giving him complete creative control, which is the only reason his later one writer scripts managed to avoid the waste basket.

These were the lines I was thinking along. If I could choose which one of each of these was true, I couldn't help myself but to choose 1. A, and 2. B.

It is fun speculation, but none of this really matters.

Yes, because I am sure that we would still be using stop motion beyond the year 2000 if it hadn't been for ILM. In fact, I doubt that if it had not been for ILM, then we should have never landed on the moon either. I realize ILM has done a lot, I am not over looking that. But give mankind some credit, if ILM hadn't been around to accomplish all it had as far as FX go, then somebody else would have.

What exactly do the "yes" folks need to explain Randy? This poll is taking what OC, Zombie and I have said in another thread, pulled it out of context, then presented it to everyone else as a simple poll. The results of this poll really don't have a lot to do with our line of reasoning, nor have any effect on it. It doesn't prove we are "insane" or "shocking". In fact, if I stumbled across this poll without the context of the other conversation, and if it were only about the matter of not having the SE or the PT (which is not quite what we were trying to get at in the other thread) I would not have even given the matter much thought, I would simply vote "no" without even questioning myself.
