Now that I have a sixth gen. Nintendo console, I have finally started looking at what games they made for it, I knew they made a couple of Metroid games, but I was surprised to see how many Gameboy/NDS games there have been as well. It is funny that for close to 20 years there had only managed to be three Metroid games, The original, Metroid II for the GB, and Super Metroid for SNES. But now the amount of games with "Metroid" have more than doubled. Zelda feels the same way, from after Majora's Mask it seems they started releasing Zelda games left and right, most of them on portable systems though, when from 1985 - 2000 there were only six official Zelda games, now there are fourteen! Again, within just 8 years, the number of Zelda games managed to double. Same thing is true with Star Fox, though to a lesser extent (so far!). From 1993 we had Star Fox and then in 1997 Star Fox 64, a remake of the original. Then from 2002 to 2006 there have been three sequels. And with the Mario games... man... I am not even sure what should be considered the sequel to Mario 64. Mario has always been that way though. But with other series that I have liked so much for so long, it is kind of sad to see them cheapen by going for quantity over quality when it use to be the other way around. I can see a huge drop in quality with the newer Zelda games and the newer Star Fox games. Metroid Prime is the only of the new Metroid games I have played, it was the first new Metroid since Super Metroid, and it is amazing, to me it is what Ocarina of Time was for Zelda and what Star Fox 64 was for Star Fox. I haven't played any of the other ones, I am amazed at how many there are though. I hope it hasn't gone the quantity over quality path many other Nintendo titles have, but I don't think you can develope so many so fast and have them be as good as they ought to be.

Man, you get that bent out of shape about somebody not using a contraction? What is wrong if Ferris used "they are" instead of "they're"? You are like opposite of most English teachers I know, most of them complain when people DO use contrations. This is a first. This is why the English language is doomed. Damn internet.

There was nothing at all wrong with what you posted, you were plenty articulate. I was merely adding to the discussion by saying that I didn't even bother trying to follow any rules, and that is what I feel makes him so great, and also that Bomadil may have been his first major tagent in the story, but that there were plenty of others too. I disagreed with you about Bombadil being Tolkien's Jar Jar, but that was your personal opinion, which you have every right to, whether others disagree with it or not. I also did not intend to suggest that you had anything against Tolkien, the mere fact that you brought him up and that you have read his work shows that you like him.

No need to apologise or to explain yourself.

Yeah, that is Gamestops regular price for them. That is the reason I bought one. $40 plus $5 for a year warranty. Used PS2s still go for $99.99, and the old bulky PS2s go for $79.99. XBox for something like $110 I think. Now being the owner of both a PS2 and a Gamecube, I can say that if my Gamecube died on me I would be okay without replacing it for a while, but if my PS2 died on me, I would be at a loss. Much like with the N64, the GC games that are good are really good, much better than those of the PS2, but there are very few good games that are unique to the GC. I really hope they make a big effort to fix that with the Wii. I would really like to see it become true competition to the other consoles and not just because of the Wiimote and the low price tag. Which of course is the other reason Gamecubes dropped in value so much, the Wii is 100% backwards compatible with GC games, and it is only $249 for a brand new system, which makes the GC very replacable. PS2s and Xboxs still hang in there because their successors are not 100% backwards compatible, and their successors cost close to four times as much as they do brand new. Brand new Cube is $99 while a brand new Wii is $249, compared to a brand new PS2 at $129 and a PS3 at $499 (and I think that is just the price of the 60gb edition, which is no longer being made, editions with larger hds cost more.)

I have heard of people accidently leaving their PS2s on all night and coming back to find a melted laser lens. Since my old NES (which is very likely the poorest quality Nintendo console) is still working to this very day, I have come to expect pretty decent products from Nintendo.

I try to stay away from 3rd party products thats why I never bought any other wireless controllers other than The Gamecube.

I was talking about the systems themselves, but yeah, I have had rotten luck with 3rd party products. For my old N64 I bought two InterAct brand controllers to save money, they worked fine for a while, then their joysticks stopped responding correctly. The Logitech wireless PS2 controller is third party, but it is also officially licensed by Sony and I have only heard great things about it.

Fantasy novels being Made into movies for big and small screen

WHOA!! Man, was I tired yesterday! Poor C. S. Lewis is probably rolling in his grave at my mistake. I am pretty surprised to see I did that, and twice too. Lewis is one of my absolute favorite writers, and old George can't write worth anything, there is nothing to be mixed up about the two. When I wrote that my brain was totally thinking Lewis the whole time, for some stupid reason the message got boggled on the way to my fingers. Sorry about that.

Given, other storytellers, such as Tolkien, have broken this rule as well (such is the case with Tom Bombadil, who I believe to be the Jar-Jar of LOTR). Tolkien was a master storyteller, but the character of Bombadil has been criticized much since his appearance. (Thank God Jackson cut him from the film.)

I don't think Tolkien gave a flying donkey for the rules of story telling. But as for Bombadil being the Jar Jar of The Lord of the Rings, keep in mind that Bombadil lasted for little more than one chapter, not the entire story. And for the time he was in the story he contributed a great deal by aiding the traveling Hobbits. Unlike Jar Jar, who is merely just there and contributes nothing to anyone but yet manages to be in nearly every scene of the film. I never heard too many people complaining about old Tom until after the movies came out, then suddenly he became a gay and annoying character that was cool to hate. Tolkien often side tracked and spent some time on a side character, or sometimes on a character that has nothing to do with the story at all, such as the moments where he goes into a tangent about some historical figure. If you are not into that sort of thing, you can't truely appreciate the brilliance of Tolkien's work, that is why I always say Tolkien is not for everyone. He doesn't conform to the rules of story telling, he probably breaks just about every one of them, but yet his works never goes out of print and have held a huge fan base ever since the very beginning.

Lucas broke plenty of rules too, and in all fairness, his work has a pretty decent sized fan base too. Though I am very interesting to see how SW is fairing in ten - twenty years.

Man! Terry Gilliam directing Dune, even imagining it is exciting. That would be no end to awsome. A real David Lynch version would be pretty cool too.

Northern Lights/Golden Compass is the first book in the His Dark Materials Trilogy, so at least one third of it will be made even if it is unsucessful. But I highly doubt it will be, with how popular the books have been, no doubt this thing will really take off. Childrens' fantasy is the type of thing that sells these days. But then again, you never know.

I was actually surprised with how well Narnia did, I wasn't expecting it to be as popular as it was. The things that make the books so great doesn't translate to the screen very well, and the Christian community took to it like mad. It was kind of annoying to pass church buildings and see them advertising it on their signs. I don't even think Lewis would have like it being pushed so much as an allegory, something he was not to fond of. He had an interesting idea in mind when he wrote it, and he added a good dose of his personal theology to it, which he did with most of his fiction. But people take it now as event for event allegory of the gospels, which it is not. People write books about it and give sermons on it, for Pete's sake, if it is what you are trying to make it be, then it is a bit redundant isn't it? Why should you have to wrap your Bible stories in fantay before you can throughly appreciate them. Eleminate the middle man, when you want a Bible story pick up your Bible. Narnia is much more than that. Anyone who has read much of Lewis' works will understand this. Lewis himself admited to not being the fondest of allegory, and said that people tend to take it to extremes and see things that were not intended by the author (too true!), this is most certainly the case with his books.

Haha! I forgot, that is exactly what he did with Indiana Jones. I remember the yellow box VHS release (the last US release before the DVD set) for the Indy Trilogy had their episode numbers on the spine, Raiders was Episode 24 or something like that.

Humourous Rant about Lucas on MSNBC
Time
I certainly don't think Rick McCallum is making any creative decisions that are getting in Lucas' way, I think the man's only job is to stick around to give Lucas rim jobs at the end of the day, and to tell him how perfect everything he comes up with is. If by crowding his vision you mean stroking his ego and reaffirming Lucas' inflated view of himself and his misconception that he is THE master story teller and can do no wrong, then yeah, McCallum is crowding the hell out of Lucas' vision.

What Lucas' vision needs are a few people to say, "Well George, that sounds interesting, but maybe we should go a different route..." instead we have Lucas shooting down the creative contributions of everyone else and telling them "That sounds good. But not for MY movie." That is why Lucas is failing, because he turns a deaf ear to the advice of others. His near non-existent "creativity" could use some good crowding these days, it is getting pretty thin.

Well, I think I just about unlocked all but three of the unlockable guys. Surprising how easy it is in this one. I remember in the original spending a long span of time trying to complete certian tasks in order to gain just four hidden characters. I remeber some of those guys being pretty hard to unlock. Especially Ness. With this one the hardest one to get will be Mewtwo looks like, since I need to play either 700 games in VS. or 20 hours of VS. I really don't have too many friends that play games where I live now, and the ones that do are not really Nintendo people. And on top of that I only have one controller. I'll just have to let multiplayer play an hour here and an hour there, I don't really like the idea of leaving it on overnight, use to do it with my old systems all the time, but I am kind of weary about doing it on a CD based system. They just seem kind of delecate to me.

Oh Chaltab, you are such a great guy! Thanks. Now I can stop contorting my hand into odd formations in order to reach Z.

You can get Mewtwo as a playable character? I am no fan of Pokemon, but that would actually be cool. So to get him I guess you have to log a certian number of multiplayer hours? Ah, I'll just look it up. Already Unlocked Dr. Mario and Jigglypuff after an hour of playing.

Sean, since you like the Angry Nintendo Nerd, have you seen his console wars reenactment? It is by far my favorite. Here is the link for anyone who has not seen this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chE1CBJinSM

Careful though, it is chock full of everyones favorite word beginning with the letter "F", just so none of you try watching it in front of your kids or anything.

I foresee that link being erased in the near future. But then again, it is a soundtrack to a series of old NES games, so maybe not.

FINALLY got my copy of SSB Melee. Haven't had much chance to play it yet. One thing that I find very annoying is that stupidly placed Z button being the grab/throw button, while so many of the easier to reach buttons are used twice for the same function, for example both L and R seem to do the exact same thing as does X and Y. What is the point of that? I wish you could remap the controls, that grab/throw thing I tend to put to over use. All of you who remember playing SSB on the 64 with your friends, I am sure most of you had that one annoying friend who would constantly be grabbing and throwing everyone, well, in my circle of friends, that was me. Hmm, perhaps they put it on the Z button to make it hard to use in order to cut down on over use.

Yeah, especially since all four main games are available with high quality graphics on the Gamecube ports, they would be pretty cool. If you include much gameplay it will be painfully dauting and hard to watch. I agree with Brik, just shortened versions of the boss fights and others parts that are extremely essential to the plot. The cutscenes of the GC ports look great and would be fun to watch all together. Do you have any plans to do the others davey? Or just Zero? The GC port of the original Resident Evil would be the one I would be most interested in seeing.

Going in for a job interview soon.....
Time
Yeah, Arnie's tips were really good ones. I think the very last one he mentioned is quite important, and something a lot of people fail to do during an interview. Ask questions to show you are really interested in the job, and give them the impression you really care about getting the job and that you will do your best to succeed at it. If you really don't care that much about the job (i.e. a McDonald's interview where you will only be working there short term and couldn't care less about the company) then obviously don't follow this step as you will just come off as an ass kisser. But if it is a job you are sincerly excited about and really want to have, express that.

Yes, Lazenby, thankyou. Being a long time Bond fan, I knew his name, it just escaped me last night. Like Connery's movies, Moore's tend to be pretty campy, but if you know how to appreciate that short of thing they can be a lot of fun. I always liked Moore's attitude as Bond. Brosnan's Bond always reminded me a lot of Moore's. Just based on observation, I think Moore was the Bond Brosnan tried to emulate, the attitudes they display is so similiar.

And contributing to the Things We Hate portion of the thread, I absolutely hate On Her Majesties Secret Service. I have sat through that one two times, and it was two times too many.

That is the coolest thing about the Wii, the ability to play all those old games. Though now that I have a Gamecube, I can't say I am very fond of the controller. I can imagine it being a challenge to play SNES and N64 games on. Perhaps I am not yet use to it and my opionion will change over time, but for now I would even hazard to say that it is one of the worst console controller designs to come out of the last few generations of console gaming (other than possibly the tiny pithy original PS1 controller before the analogue revision). Its c-stick is just akward, the z button could not be in a worse location, and the straying from the traditional four button diamond layout (such as A, B, X, Y on the snes controller, the directional C buttons on the 64, and the PSx's square, circle, triangle, and cross buttons), it was a great button layout. The small B button, the larger A button and the semi-oddly placed X and Y buttons just doesn't make much sense to me.

One thing I do like about the GC controller though is the shoulder buttons, I love the way the feel and the way in which they feel when you press them. I loved the layout of the N64 controller, I wish it was compatible with the Wii, it would be much better than the GC controller for emulation.

The N64 controller would be ideal for playing any type of NES or SNES game. With its d-pad, shoulder buttons and c buttons it is very similiar to the old SNES controller layout. With the d-pad and the A and B buttons it would work grea for regular NES or Gameboy games.

The Wii's classic controller is pretty cool looking, I can see it working great for NES and SNES, but I can't imagine it feeling right playing 64 games with it.

Hey, Roger Moore, while he may not be the best Bond, is in some of the coolest Bond films. The Man with the Golden Gun and Live and Let Die have always been two of my favorite Bond films. In fact, the only Bond I find better than Moore is Sean Connery, I don't think Brosnan, Daltan or .... guy-whos-name-currently-escapes-me-but-you-all-know-who-I-am-talking-about, or Craig are near as cool as Moore was. The unfortunate thing about Moore was that they kept him too long and in the last movie he was in it looked like his face was damn near ready to fall off they had him so pasted over in makeup. Seriously, nasty face falling off Moore and Grace Jones are two very good reasons nobody should EVER watch A View to a Kill.
