Actually, it is a terrible idea Sean. I am a firm believe in NEVER spending money you do not have. School loans and a house would be the only exception to this in my life. It just isn't worth being in debt over a silly computer. If you miss a payment or don't manage to pay it off during the "no interest until... such and such a date" then you are going to end up paying interest on the thing and putting more money into it than it is worth. Instead I would recommend setting the money aside for it each month, and get it when you can pay upfront. Or if you were to go with the $72 a month thing, make sure you are going to have $72 a month that you can pay into it. Debt isn't cool, avoid it while you're young.

I am a firm believer that the smaller of a screen the internet appears on, the prettier it is. I don't need to see banners about Psoriasis treatment or advertisements for online dating on a big screen or in high def.

But yeah, I think those Mac minis would make great units for an entertianment center. You could have all your music on it, and you could even load a great deal of DVDs onto the thing and have then at quick and easy access via TV remote and wireless mouse. You could even load Windows on it and use it as a game console for PC games thanks to the intel processors.

When getting your first Mac, this ought to be the very first program you install,

http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/evn/

Go to the button labeled "Mac Download" and grab the demo, Escape Velocity is one of the greates games every made. And it is a game that is not too time comsuming (unless you let it be) and you can shut it off at any time without loosing progress. No waiting for a stoping point, just say "Alright dear, I'm coming!" and close the window, you'll pick back up from the last planet you landed on. The TV series Firefly reminds me a lot of this game. Ambrosia software makes a lot of other fun programs and games for Mac as well.

As for probelms hooking up a Mac, not likely. Plug all the cords in the right spots and you should be good to go.

As for Parallels,

http://www.parallels.com/en/products/desktop/

It isn't an Apple product, it is made by Parallel Inc. above is the link to their website.

Though I heard that since the new Macs have Intel processors that you can simply install Windows right along side Mac OS, and when you boot up the computer you can just choose which one you want. If you have an extra copy of Windows XP or Vista lying around, this shouldn't cost you anything.

Since every other ancient thread is being resurrected today, and since there are a lot of us in here who never bother to look in on the General SW discussion, I thought I would bump this thing just to say,

THE HOLIDAY SPECIAL IS GETTING RIFFED!!! WHoooohooooo!!!!!

Finally, one good thing to come to us long time SW fans for the 30th.

I really don't think there is much you could do to break your DS with this thing. It is just like a game cart with a MicroSD card slot. There are other forms of DS modding that could do damage, but this R4 thing is pretty safe. I remember back in the N64 days everyone was saying that if you use 3rd party controllers or memory cards they might break your N64. My friend even told me that my warranty would be void if I used a third party controller. Six months after buying my third party controller the joy stick went out on it, proving that there was a ligitimate reason for not buying 3rd party, but it wasn't because it would break my system. Maybe Nintendo employees go online and spread these rumors in order to keep people from buying things like this.

All you need is that device (which is like any regular DS game) and a SD card. You can back up your games and put them all on the card or download Japan only games!!!!!! But they won't emulate GB you need to get a separate card to do that that goes in the second slot.

The emulation device

I'm getting a Nintendo DS for my Brother for Christmas I think I might get him a R4 as well.

Man, I wish I was your brother. Yeah, I looked saw that R4 card during my searches, seems like a great deal. It would be great being able to play all my old SNES, and NES games on the go. Does it come with the ability to emulate those right out of the box? Or is it a home brew program that you have to load on it? I am surprised it doesn't play GB games, since it can play NES and SNES.

Please feel free to point out the part where I said I was threatened by Micheal Moore, because I sure can't find it. I was not all that unserious about what I wrote. I am really getting sick of politicians. A politician that says, "Hey, of course I was lying, I am a politician after all!!" would be a breath of fresh air to me. I think Micheal Moore might be a good alternative to a good number of the canidates. Of course then our country would be a huge joke, but maybe we deserve that.

But as far as being threatened by Michael Moore, it does say something about our country that we are so willing to believe what we want to hear, even when it is proven false we go believing it unphased. Maybe I should feel threatened by that fact, but I really don't. As far as politics and the world situation goes, there is really no reason to feel threatened by any of it anymore. What will be will be.

"The DS has a far better line up of native games, though."

Not to mention it folds up to protect itself, and even the non "Lite" version is by no means large and clunky, something that defines the PSP. And DS can play GBA games (Metroid Fusion!) and it has Phantom Hourglass. I like the whole sylus setup too, another thing the PSP lacks, thanks to Sony being void of imagination.

Well, I googled around for a while, and found that there is a device that can be bought for the DS for as little as $39 that allows it to play home brew (which would include the GB emulator) as well as Mp3, pictures, ebooks, and Divx files. That would make it in my opinion the singularly most useful handheld device in the history of mankind. All it lacks is a means of fast worldwide transportaion, a cloaking device, laser canons, and an energy shield that makes its barer invincible. Once they have a version that can do all that, I shall perchase it then go to live the rest of my life in the mountians as a hermit. It'll be great!

For any of you DS owner out there,

I have been thinking about buying a new portable system for a while now. I am still using my old Gameboy color, and I was thinking about buying a GB SP since it can play GB Advanced games as well as the old GameBoy and GameBoy Color games, and it has a backlight (I have put up with barely being able to see what I am playing for long enough). Though looking at the price difference between the GB SP and the NDS, I feel tempted to spend a bit extra and get the DS.

Only problem is my old GB and GBC games won't work on it. However, I heard you can emulate old GB and GBC on it. Has any one ever tried this? If this can be done simply enough and without costing a small fortune, then I could just get the rom files for all the GB and GBC games I own and play them this way. So I was wondering if anyone here has done this with their NDS, and if it is very costly or too much of a hassle. If it is going to cost more than fifty bucks to get it setup, I might as well just buy a DS and then get a used GB SP, rather than trying to get the DS to emulate the old games. Though the idea of having ScummVM on a DS with the ability to play Monkey Island in the palm of my hand sounds pretty cool too.

I for one would like to see Micheal Moore run for President. The guy openly admits that he makes things up, exaggerates, and bends truth in his documentaries because his obligation is to entertain, not to truth. Yet, even with he himself admitting this, people still like to believe everything he puts in his documetaries and books. This makes him one of the most honest figures out there. While he lies, he admits to it, which makes him pretty honest. I liked honesty. While tons of people believe Moore's lies, it is their own faults because they look over the fact that he is a self proclaimed liar, so in effect they are lying to themselves. I bet if more people would choose to be honest about their lies like Moore is, they would have a better time getting away with their lies. It just goes to show people will believe what they want to just because they want to believe it. Moore would be the perfect canidate, because everyone would loves what he says choose to believe him, and for those of us like myself who choose to believe him when he admits to dishonesty can feel reassured that he is lying. I would rather be lied to by my President and know for sure he is lying than have to question his every word, and try to figure out what to believe and what not to believe. Too bad politicians can't be more like Moore more and say, "Hey, I am full of shit but you love me anyway! Vote for me!!!" (thunderous applause)

Another thing that I think contribute to more sympathy for the Ewoks than the Gungans is that the Ewoks were real. You could imagine running into one while taking a stroll through the woods. They were real costumes with real people inside, this made them feel very tangible, like just about everything else in the OT. The Gugans were not real, I could imagine running into them in real life about as well as I could imagine running into Roger Rabbit or Daffy Duck in real life. They fact that they all looked pretty much the same didn't help much either.

I talk to many people who are already convinced Hilary has it. Kind of silly if you ask me. I really don't think she is as sure fire as she is marketed as. Hear her talk and you'd think she was running against George Bush. Everything is "Bush this, Bush that." She does realize he is old news now, right? There are other people she needs to be running against now, it doesn't matter a hill of beans at this point if Bush is hero or an evil dictator, he isn't running for election. I think she appears as strong as she does because that is the way she is depicted by the media. I think this fact weighs on people, and they get it pounded in their head from the TV that she has practically already won, and so they believe it to be a fact. I am not so sure America is ready for a female President yet, at least not one like Hilary. I also have faith that there are still plenty of people who can see through her. Not saying that it is impossible for her to be elected, just getting kind of tired of hearing that she might as well have already won, that simply isn't true.

Fair enough. To be honest, I cared about the Ewoks too, but I was quite young when that film came out. I can imagine a more mature viewer watching ROTJ for the first time in 83 and feeling much the way I felt about the Gungans in 99.

Wow! Twenty days before the official release date, for the states anyway (Dec. 18th). It is interesting, the suggested retail price for the five disc set is $78, while for the 4 disc it is $35. Seems like a lot of money for a tin box and one extra disc. Are they completely different discs? Or is it really just one extra disc and fancy packaging. Regular packaging fits better on the shelf anyway, and one extra disc just doesn't seem worth that much money.

^ Sad but too true. Serenity's battle was there with the point of showing what had to be shown to carry the story forward. It did its job well. The battles in the Star Wars trilogy were made to carry the stories forward, but in many cases were themselves the story. And they too did their job beautifully. The battles in the PT felt like they were battles for the heck of it. The battle at Hoth served the purpose to divide up and scatter our heros. The battles at the end of SW and ROTJ served to provide an entertaining climax for the film. The PT battles, such as the overly boring Jango/Obi-wan chase scene, and the battle at the beginning of ROTS, seem like they serve little purpose other than to extend the film and show off effects.

Battles are great moments for emotional situations. It is when you can really make your characters come out of their shells and show who they really are. The hotshot can prove to be a coward, and the reluctant hero can be forced to step up to the plate. In Serenity, the end battle served for the death of Wash, a very emotional moment. Anyone who had liked the series and had a fondness for that character was shouting in their head, "What? NO! Why did that have to happen!" This also pushed our minds out of the "Our heros can live through anything" line of thinking, to "Who is going to die next?" From that second and through the rest of the end of that film there is a feeling of lose and helplessness. Serenity did a great job of making the battle and the end fight an emotional moment. Star Wars, with Luke loosing his old childhood frind into a puff of flame, and all the rest of the squadron bitting the dust one after another, great emotional moment. Even ESB with Luke's gunner dying and several speeders crashing and the streangth of the empire's forced served to give us a real feel of how grave the situation really was, something that never give throughout the entirety of the film. FOr the most part, none of us gave a damn about the Ewoks dying in ROTJ or about the Gungans dying in TPM, or about the the Jedi dying in AOTC or ROTS. Heck, did any of us even really care when Padme died of her broken heart? I think most of us felt more cheated than saddened. If there is nothing at stake in a battle, why even bother fighting it? Or in the case of movies, why even bother filming it?
