I actually think that is what keeps people watching, and one of the more interesting aspects of the show. In real life you do not get the instant gratification of having answers for every mystery. I think part of what makes the show so great is that we have to remain in the dark as much as the characters whose stories we are following have to remain in the dark. The funny thing is they do give plenty of answers, a lot of times people do not notice them, or they feel they do not come fast enough. If you go back and rewatch old episodes you'll realize how many answers you have been given. There are a few key things that have remained unanswered, and will remain so up until pretty close to the end, if not the very end.

Hmm, this whole case has seriously made me rethink my stance on gun control. I am going to destroy all my guns tomorrow. I have now joined the ranks of the anti-gun people! If some freaks were ever to harrass me and my family while we are in our very own home, a place in which we are suppose to feel safe and secure, I sure as hell wouldn't want to have a gun around. In fact, I think it might be smart to paste a sign on my door saying "No fire arms allowed! This is a gun free home" that way anyone who might want to harrass me or rob me or whatever else could feel 100% at ease about it.

Huh? SMW2 isn't as good as the first, but it's still a great game and well worth playing. I missed the SNES version, but when it came to GBA, it never left my system for a solid month.

Perhaps I have never given it enough of a chance. I always just found it such a departure from the usual formula (which isn't always a bad thing) that I never felt like I was actually playing a Mario game. And every time you loose the dumb baby off your back it is such an annoyance. I have played through a few levels of it, but I just really never enjoyed it at all.

One non-major Mario game that I thought was a lot of fun and incredibly well done was Super Mario RPG. I am not too big of a fan of turned based RPGs, but I had no problem putting up with it for that game. I loved being able to go around the Mushroom kingdom and other worlds and talk to everybody. The villiages and kingdoms in that game really had a very quaint design to them, it turned what has always been a 2D world that we know very little about into a vast 3D fantasy world wide open for exploration.

Wow, I remember dying for an SNES and Super Mario World after several of my friends got theirs and I was still stuck with the NES my parents had bought for me and my sister a few years before. We had bought Super Mario Bros. 3 when it first came out and we had beat it several times already (I can still remember the first time we beat Bowser on SMB3). To me SMW was a whole new level of gaming. I could hardly believe the vast world and the fantastic detail of the graphic. From the beginning I never saw that game as anything short of amazing. I think connecting it to the New World Order is pretty looney. And I think people are making more of this than need be, but on the opposing side, I don't think it fair victims be categorized as crazy. It is very plausible that there are organized groups doing things like this, maybe with or without a personal motive. Could be just randomly choosen victims. There are similar things taking place in other countries, I would chock that up to copy cat crimes, and the internet "Hey guys guess what me and some friend did to terrorize these people..." "ROTFL!!! I gotta try that!!!"

Remember the crop circles? Those things were showing up all over the world, so plenty of people were convinced that there was no other explaination for it other than extra terresterial activity. I think we all know how that turned out. It really is only the aluminum foil hat people who still believe crop circles are messages from space men.

Hmm, but them again if there is a NWO, I suppose this is exactly the type of reasoning they would want us to follow...

Blu-ray Disc or HD-DVD?

I'd never dream to rent the maximum amount of movies per month from Netflix, the very idea of sitting in front of the glowing box that many hours a month gives me shivers. And Netflix is actually quite lacking in older and less popular titles, not to mention the vast number of films condemned to die with VHS.

As for Blu-ray's larger capacity, I am surprised we are even debating the usefullness of more space. Am I the only one who remembers when 3.5 floppys seemed more than suffciently large? How about the CD-R with its 650mb? I remember when I got my first CD burner thinking how great it was to have a means of storage that was nearly impossible to run out of space on. In those days my hd was only 4gb. When I first bought that computer and for the first few years I had it, I felt pretty sure I would never be able to max out such a massive hd as my 4gb. Now when I back up my computer I have to use at least two DVD-Rs to get everything, sometimes more. Times have changed, and they will continue to change. DVD use to be considered the ultimate media format with the ultimate picture and sound quality, giving you the ultimate cinema like viewing experience...

Not only will the BRs extra space be useful, it will inevitably sometime in the near future be completely inadaquate. The idea that they wont be filling the things to the top just a short time after HD-DVD is gone is laughable.

Thanks guys. I had heard so many negative things about it I just really wasn't sure if it was even worth messing with. But I had also heard plenty of bad things about WindWaker and I am enjoying it. I think part of the problem was that standards were set pretty high on the N64 with Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time that their next-gen followups had too much to live up to.

FF explained in the post right above yours lordjedi several potential reasons for being stalked. I wouldn't want to write this off as paranoia, I am sure there is something to it. However, theorizing about it being more than just someone out with a personal grudge or a bunch of teenagers out for thrills and elevating it to the level of a government conspiracy or even higher than that into a part of an international secret society's plot to rule the world might be eligible for being considered paranoia. At anyrate, I have no doubt somebody really was harrassing FF and that he/she is not just imagining things.

I guess you didn't catch the part where the jungle people who were dressed in rags were actually the others trying to fool the survivors into thinking they were something they were not. Perhaps you should go back and watch the last few episodes of season two again. Remember Cindy the flight attendant that the silent, creepy people in the jungle kidnapped? Don't you remember the episode in season 3 where Jack sees her at the others' camp seemingly brainwashed and with several of the tail sections kids with her? Is that not enough evidence to say that those creepy silent people were really the others?

"This idea of fate could tie together the show's fixation on free will, birth, life, death, and limitations. I'm hoping the message of the show will involve something along the lines of Locke's faith being the source of his free will. That would be neat."

Fate is a big part of the show. Since the very beginning the show has thrown in numerous philisophical ideas, which is one of the things I have always liked about it. Anyone who has studied philosophy will be able to see deeper into the show than those who haven't. This does not necessarily mean that they are going to come to some profound philisophical conclusion at the end of the show. If you have listened to any of the podcasts or seen/heard/read any interviews with the makers, it is pretty clear that this kind of thing interests them, it is not that they have the answers themselves, they just like inserting the unanswerable questions in the show.

The writers of the show have admitted to both having read a book called The Third Policeman which they say was one big inspiration for the show. The Third Policeman is a brilliant brilliant book about a man who falls in with a con-man, the two of them plot out a murder, after the man commits the murder, he himself is murdered by him con-man friend, only he doesn't realize that he has been killed and this is not immediately clear to the reader either. After this point the protagonist is witness to all sorts of bizzare things going on around him. By the end of the book we discover that he has been in hell the whole time paying for the murder he had commited.

Now the writers have already said that the island is not hell or purgatory, but the way in which the character in the book is seamlessly transported from real life to hell is a lot like the way the characters on Lost are transitioned from real life to some bizzare island that seemingly does not exist in the real world and where the laws of reality sometimes seem not to apply. Now with the whole find815.com stuff and Naomi saying that there were no survivors of flight 815 and that they were all discovered dead, it is beginning to feel more and more like The Third Policeman.

At anyrate, I really like the show, and as long as the writers remain true to their original intentions for the ending, I am sure I for one will not be disappointed.

I think I have seen all the trailers, but I must have missed noticing Charlie at the end. Anyway, I think I have read that he will be showing up for guest appearences from time to time via flashbacks. He was a very popular character and left the show on good terms as far as I know, so I am sure we'll be seeing him from time to time.

This season ought to be really interesting with the mix of flashbacks and flashforwards. It is really a shame it had to be broken in two, would have loved to have sixteen weeks to look forward to new episodes during. Also....

*****Potential minor SPOILER below*****

Just put the SPOILER warning incase anyone doesn't know that Michael is returning, though it has been clearing announced that the actor will be returning as a full time cast member, and I think he might have been in one of the trailers.
Really looking forward to the return of Michael, but I am wondering how they are going to Handle Walt. As far as I know he has not been signed on at all, and even if he is, he is a lot older now, not sure how they'll pull it off. It is not like they can bring back Michael back without Walt.

Scout Trooper lives in the UK, so I am sure he isn't talking about the US ads. At any rate, he is a huge racing game fan (which is fine) and hates Nintendo (also fine), and also likes to be antagonistic (not so fine), so don't expect him to have anything positive to say about a Mario game.

Speaking of Mario games, I could not think of a more gay name than Super Mario Sunshine (I am sure Scout Trooper would not hesitate to disagree with me on that), but I don't want to judge the book by its title. Since I don't have a Wii, and the SMSS for the GC is only twelve bucks for a used copy now, can anybody tell me if it is worth playing? Does it hold up in the slightest to SM64? Having recently played my way through SMW on my PS2 and hearing all this talk of Super Mario Galaxy has made me want to hook up my old N64 and tackle SM64 all over again, but I figured if SMSS, despite its awful name, has gameplay anywhere near as good as SM64 I might as well tackle a new challenge rather than play through an old game for the upteenth time.

I was pretty pissed when rental places started getting rid of their massive VHS collections. I used to love to go into Hastings and search through the vast amounts of old movies on VHS that only cost $0.99 to rent. Seemed there was hardly a movie they did not have, since everyone has gone all out DVD there are a lot of movies that are impossible to find, most rental stores don't carry older and more obscure films even if they are on DVD, and even if you get lucky enough to find it on DVD it is going to cost you more than a buck to rent it. The days of renting old and obscure films for a buck have ended. Hell, the days of renting any movie for a buck aren't looking so good, I know of a few places but they not only suffer from a crappy selection, but their discs are so scratched up you're lucky if you get to watch the whole thing from beginning to end without having to skip a large section due to a scratch.

So yes, I am one of those who complained about the death of the VHS. Those of us who are suckers for boring old movies are left with little else to turn to than our DVRs, and the late night TV listings.

No, you're not.

I think the fact that the media (as far as I have seen) have ignored the strike to the best of their ability or painted it in a bad light. If you look on the internet, depending on your sources for news, the bias can go either way. I think anyone who looks at both sides of this issue will find themselves sympathetic to the writers to a good degree. Unfortunately for the writers, most people are just pissed that their favorite shows aren't coming back, or are coming back with less than half the originally planned number of episodes and no more in sight, and feel like it is 100% the writers fault since they are striking.

Spider-Man? I guess it resembled the old comics as far as how Peter becomes Spider-Man for the most part, but it really wasn't that close to the source material in most aspects. I think really only the basic origin remained true to the original.

Lord of the Rings was impressively close to the source matterial, especially considering how rare it is to find a film adaption that remains true to its source material. But there are a few very blatant liberties taken for no appearent reason.

I was also pretty disappointed that the heroic return of the hobbits to the Shire was completely removed. I know it is necessary to leave out things, and plenty of things were left out, but the return of the hobbits had always been a very meaningful part to me. It really showed how the hobbits had all been greatly changed by their adventure. I know the ending of the film adaption of ROTK went on and on, but I felt there were a lot of parts in ROTK that drug on way too long, and a brief bit of the return, even if severly altered might have been a favorable change of pace for the end.

If you ask me, Peter Jackson did an insanely awesome job with Fellowship of the Ring. The Two Towers and The Return of the King was lacking... a lot in a lot of areas (not going to get into this, this has been covered left and right on the internet).

The Hobbit shouldn't be made into a movie. It's too boring.

My opinion.

I think The Hobbit could be a great film. Yes, the book is very slow moving, but most people consider LOTR very slow moving and boring and yet look how successful those movies turned out. Even many people I know who proclaimed Fellowship of the Ring as their all time favorite movie the second they walked out of the cinema, ran out and bought the books only to read a short ways into FotR before admitting that it was far too boring for them to finish.

I personally think The Hobbit would be much more Fellowship of the Ring like in many ways if it were made into a film. The second two films are much more action packed, and those are the parts I find hard to sit through. I can only watch so many battles for so long. The Hobbit has action, but it has a lot of other stuff as well, I think it would transfer to screen wonderfully. But not in two movies. A single three hour or less film is plenty to tell the tale that is to be told, dragging it out for marketing's sake would be unfortunate.

Wow, so when you say Super Mario Bros. 2 (The Lost Levels) I take that to mean they released to virtual console the original Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2 that was never released in North America other than as part of Super Mario All Stars as The Lost Levels. It has the old Famicom/NES graphics and not the 16bit SMAS graphics right? That is really cool. I wouldn't have imagined Luigi's jump to have been different back then, I thougt the only time his jump and traction were changed was in the North America version of Super Mario Bros. 2. Dave said they were different in Super Mario World too, out of all my years playing that game I really never noticed any difference between Mario and Luigi other than in their appearance. That is interesting.

Going way off topic here, but that set top box HD downloader lordjedi mentioned would be a brilliant replacment for the current system of TV. Let's say you had access to instantly watch any show airing on the stations in your "cable service", in other words, anything you see in the weekly listing for your local newspaper on station that you recieve would be instantly accessible through this box. If you get sci-fi, then you could see any episode of Battlestar Galactica from the very begining of the series until the latest episode. They could designate places in each episode for commercial, just like they do now, and even if you are watching a ten year old show the top set box could automatically insert current advertisements into it. This way you could watch an entire run of a TV series for free if you can endure the commercials, and instead of releasing overly expensive DVD boxsets for seasons of a TV show, they could let you pay a fee to have access to watch the episodes without commercials. This could replace Tivo, DVRs, TV shows on DVD, and the only part I wouldn't like, movies on DVD. I really like owning my own movies with their own cases, pressed on a disc that I can pick up and carry with me anywhere.

To try to tie this blantantly off topic post back to the original discussion, I would really like the original trilogy with its own case, pressed on three discs, in good quality, that I can pick up and carry with me anywhere.

Well, less than a month from now we can enjoy a meager eight weeks of Lost. Sixteen episode season was already short enough, kind of annoying it gets cut off at eight. I had hoped there would have been some sort of resolution with the WGA strike long before now so we could at least look forward to the second half of the season sometime later in the year, but it isn't looking too good.

Really? Last I heard production had stopped. Any idea how many episodes?

EDIT:

From the all knowing, ever accurate, ultimately scholarly wikipedia,

"Moore acknowledged that due to the 2007 Writers Guild of America strike, the series might not be completed. Production was suspended on Nov. 16, 2007, all personnel have been laid off, and only 13 of the 22 episodes have been completed (including 2 episodes comprising "Razor"). Completion of the season is not a certainty."

Links

Ron Moore's personal blog where he admits concern that Galactica may never finish

Article about Ron's blog

So eleven more episodes, and not likely to be anymore until 2009 or maybe never (though that blog seemed like Moore was being a bit over dramatic, BSG is pretty popular and a pretty big cash horse to be shot so quickly. I am pretty sure once the strikes are over that nobody is going to say, "Ah, let's just forget about BSG and call it good shall we?" There'll be high demand for the last eps and plenty of money around to ensure that they get done.

It is still the principal of the matter. I want to be able to install my games internet free. You say I can install it and then set it to offline mode so it wont ever need to access the internet again, but what if I want to uninstall it to free up disk space then sometime down the road wish to play it again. No matter what they do, they will never stop piracy and in the end they will just irritate honest users. Also what if I want to sell my game later on, is that even possible? Doesn't steam register it to me thus making the original discs about as useless as a pirated copy if I want to sell them or pass them on to somebody else? I could be wrong on that one, I am not sure how it works. Also what if I pack the game away, and come across it 20 years down the line, won't I need to remember my old user name and password if I every want to use them again? Or does it just check to make sure the discs are the originals? That would be more reasonable, but still very annoying.
