RB does not even have it yet.

Hey pal, relax. I was in no way accusing you of selling anything dark_jedi. And I respect the fact that you would not share anything without someones permission, you have been a good member of this community and the preservation community for a long time, I would never expect or suspect you of selling or distributing something if you felt you shouldn't. My post was not directed at you, nor was it ment to be taken so accusatory as it has been.

Garrett isn't selling anything either. He was given a copy of the edit that was indicated to him as the final version. Here's the first email he sent me about it:

How weird - everyone on Originaltrilogy is posting about the extended Army of Darkness waiting for it. The guy who made it, Scott, has made no announcement. He sent this edit to me AGES ago. Maybe you should let them know it actually exists! Maybe I'll put it up as a torrent.

Quit trying to sleight a dude for trying to help you.

I am not trying to "sleight a dude" for anything, nor am I accusing Garrett of selling anything. Ridgeshark also sent me a copy back in November for me to proof-watch. Nowhere in anything he wrote to me did he give me permission to distribute it. I would not even think about making a copy and giving it to a close friend without Ridgeshark's permission.

You (Reverend Beastly) said that an ex-member had a copy and would be sending it to you, and you would send it to dark_jedi , who could distribute it for everyone to enjoy. I didn't know if the ex-member had permission to distribute it or not. When you said that the ex-member was Garrett, I said that is was a very Garrett like thing to do to distribute a movie without the makers permission and I don't think it is a good idea. I made this comment based on Garrett's selling of other peoples preservations that happened once upon a time. Not trying to bring that back up, don't get me wrong, I actually like Garrett and use to enjoy reading his posts, I merely ment that the guy has not shown the best judgment in the past when it comes to these matters, and his lead might not be the best to follow. The fact that in the email he wrote to you he immediately came to the conclusion "Maybe I'll put it up as a torrent" since the Ridge hasn't released it yet confirms what I wrote was an accurate assumption.

It is a great set. It would be sad for it not to see the light of day beyond the few people he sent copies out to. I was very impressed with it, from the menu and disclaimer down to the actual editing. He put a lot of work into it, and has done a great job. Maybe he wouldn't mind it being distributed, maybe he wants it distributed. But I think it is quite an honor to be asked to receive an advanced copy for previewing, and while he did not say to me "please don't distribute this to anyone" it doesn't seem right for me to do so.

If I made an edit, and asked someone if they would be willing to check it for errors, then after sending it to them got busy with life and had to put the project aside for a bit until I had time to come back and finish it up, and while I was gone I find that it made its way all over the internet, I would be pretty annoyed.

At anyrate, do as you feel comfortable with. Sorry, I honestly was not trying to sleight anyone.

I second that. Distributing (or selling) something without the promission of the guy who made the project is a pretty Garrett-ish thing to do. Last I heard from Ridge was that he was just about done, but was not ready to release it yet. I really don't think it is right to assume that just because he has not been around that his approval is no longer needed before distribution begins.

Fall to the Dark Side?
Time
If Anakin had offered to protect Palpatine when he first revealed himself, there would have been more time for Anakin to have second guest himself. It would have made the turn slower, not faster. He could have still been asking himself if he was doing the right thing or not, then when it got down to the Mace Windu fight it wouldn't have seemed like such a quick turn.

buddy-x-wing is right that the turn being more convincing had Anakin been expelled or given a better reason to fall. George played around with the idea of Anakin suspecting that Obi-Wan and Padme were having an affair. There was a scripted scene were Palpatine mentions to Anakin that he had heard rumors of Obi-Wan having some sort of love affair with some young female senator. Had he gone with that idea more fully, it really could have made a huge difference. I think for Anakin to have convincingly turned to the dark side he really needed to have a reason to hate Padme. The idea of him becoming evil for her sake, then killing her, then later trying to turn her son evil or kill him is kind of silly.

Let's say she really did have an affair (kind of heavy subject matter for a movie aimed at preteen audiences) or at least Palpatine truely convinced Anakin that she was cheating on him with his best friend, even though she wasn't, after all these years of being pushed toward the dark side by his close friendship with Palpatine he comes home after finding some pretty convincing evidence and is in a fit of rage. Padme tries to convince him that he doesn't know what he is talking about and that she loves him and would never do anything to hurt him, but he is so enraged that he doesn't listen to any of it. He starts kicking over furniture and squashing things with the force and Padme flees fearing for her life, and runs to their mutual friend Obi-Wan for help. Obi-Wan and the Jedi take her in to protect her and hide her someplace. The fact that she ran to Obi-Wan only makes him more suspicious, Palpatine adds in a few more facts and rumors he has heard in order to gently rub salt on the wound and to confirm to Anakin that what really has not happened has happened. No killing children, no order 66. Padme has disappeared, Anakin goes to Obi-Wan and attacks him, the two have their first fight, Obi-Wan is heart broken and tries to confince his friend that he could never do anything to hurt him, that he was like his brother. This could have been the point where Anakin looses an arm. Obi-Wan only tries to defend himself, but in the process accidently takes off Anakin's hand. Obi-Wan stares on dumbstruck at what he has just done, and Anakin escapes clutching his stump to fight again another day. Anakin is suspended from the Jedi order for his violent attack against another Jedi. Anakin goes to the Jedi to demand information on his wife's location, they refuse to tell him, this confirms to him that there is something up with Obi-Wan and that the Jedi are helping him hide his misdeeds. Anakin looses his temper and maybe kills a few Jedi at this point. And so on.

That is a much slower turn, with much more convincing motives. I don't think Anakin should have known about Padme being pregnant. Neither should the audience. Padme goes off to live on Alderan, fearing that if her husband should ever find her he will kill her. There she discovers she is pregnant, and Obi-Wan decides that it is better that not all three of them should be in the same place in the event that they are found, Padme reluctantly hands her son off to Obi-Wan so he can hid him and raise him to be a Jedi. This part doesn't have to happen on screen, it is implied well enough in the first movie. If we had Padme still living at the end of episode three, what more is there to explain in episodes four, five, and six. It becomes obvious Anakin is the father of them and easy enough for us to put two and two together and figure out that she was pregnant when she left him. Obi-Wan clearly explains the separation of the twins and the hiding of Luke. Leia remembered her real mother, so it would all make a lot more sense. We don't even have to have Anakin hunting down and killing all of the Jedi in episode three. It would be a lot better if we knew that was what Palpatine intended for him to do and see him start to do it. Then when episode four comes along we see, ah, Obi-Wan made it! Then when episode five rolls along and we hear Obi-Wan mention meeting Yoda we will realize he survived the purge as well.

I forgot about Luigi narrarating. I think it is funny his only inclusion in the game was as a small series of 2D drawings with word balloons in the instruction book. I also remember he used the term "kick some tail" somewhere within his word balloons. I remember that because one of my friends who stumbled across the instruction manual while using the can came across that line and thought that it was pretty lame. I wish Super Mario RPG worked on SNEStation, otherwise I might play it from time to time, but it just doesn't feel worth digging it out SNES and hooking it up, adding yet another system to the stack of them under my TV just for the sake of playing one game.

I have owned just two player's guides in my day, one was the official Mario Kart 64 guide which I bought used for next to nothing and had excellent maps with details on how to do secrets like jumping the wall in that Wario level, which I became quite good at. The other guide I had was the Star Fox 64 guide, which I bought because it had some neat pull out diagrams of the various ships found in the games and detailed background information on each of the characters. This was back when I had dial up internet, and again I only spent a couple of bucks on it. Both guides were purchased well after beating the game numerous times. I concede that for RPGs where the guides have useful details on the various items a guide might be a nice companion. For my part though, I still think they are a horrible waste of money and have nothing that a nice IGN guide doesn't offer for free. They had their time back before the days of internet, but I am surprised there is still a market for them today. One other thing I realize though, is that I have a laptop with wireless internet, which means I can have my coputer sitting on the couch next to me when I play my games. Someone who is bound to a desktop in another room of their home I can see being more partial to a nice full color printed and bound guide.

So I was at Target the other day and I saw a Player's Guide for Super Mario Galaxy among many other player's guides caping the ends of the videogame aisles, and I realized something. People who still buy player's guides are idiots. Now, I didn't check the price on them, I guess if they are only two bucks or something they might not be such a bad buy, but in this day and age who doesn't have a computer with the internet? Chances are if you have an Xbox 360, a PlayStation, or a Wii, then you are not the type who doesn't have a computer or the internet. IGN.com among other places have fantastic high quality guides with pictures absolutely free. Does anyone actually buy a player's guide and constantly refer to it? I would think you would only bother messing with it when you are stuck, or perhaps if you are trying to collect all the stars, challenge points, skatulla tokens, dog tags, or whatever it is in that particular game that they have for you to collect inorder to add some minimal replay value to the game. Why bother with the guide when you could just check the internet for hints or help when you are stuck, or get a nice printer friendly list of hidden items to be collected with a description of where to find them from an online FAQ. Once you beat the game chances are you will never refer to the guide again anyway. I swear, some people just have too much money on their hands.

Do you think it is alright to distribute RidgeShark's project without his permission? He sent some copies out for people to preview, but he did not send them out for free distribution or "officially" release it, did he? Maybe his intention of giving out a few copies was that it would get leaked by one of us and his hands would be clean of responsible for the distribution. I guess that could explain his sudden disappearance. But that is a lot to assume.

I have also decided I am going to take a crack at this too,I am going to put the deleted scenes back in the movie, but I do not have the sci-fi version(wish I did).

I will be using Army of Darkness MGM region 3 for main movie, and bits and pieces from the other versions as well.

Wait until you see Ridge's version before you decide to go through all the trouble of reinserting them yourself. To each their own, but I don't see why you would want to redo what has already been done so well before.

That is really dumb they made the mistake of putting it for $20 then cancelled your order. It would have been more decent of them to take a loss. That is usually what they would do had the mistake been an in store mistake. I guess they take advantage of the difficulty of communicating across the internet and hope for the best. Even with the using the free $10 gift card you still aren't going to get a copy of brawl for $20. Dirty evil blue empire.

Blade Runner: The Version You've Never Seen Before (Update: Beta Released)

It would be more fun to see someone turn Blade Runner into a straight action movie, or somehow re-edit to truly make Roy the hero and Deckard the bad guy. Not that I think this would make it a better movie, but at least it would be editing to change the feel and point of a film as opposed to just making it longer.

Fan editing certainly predates 1999 and the Phantom Editor. Fan editing may be a movement of kids with computers trying to turn crappy movies into good ones (which in the end usually just turn out to be a crappy movie with crappy amaturish editing). I must say ADM's edits have been among the few fan edits I have seen that were watchable, and his are for the most part extended editions. I find fan made extended editions, remade workprints and the likes are where fan editing really shines. When you take a movie that was intended to be something, and turn it into something that is wasn't intended to be, your chances of success are just about non existent. The idea of doing an edit to try to do something as extreme as "make Roy the hero and Deckard the bad guy" is pretty silly. That wasn't the way the movie was intended to be, and it would be impossible to pull it off and make it a watchable film. The characters and their on screen stories, actions, and attitudes wouldn't match up to what you are trying to make them be. There is nothing wrong with making an alternative version. You can't say, "that is doing it for the wrong reasons". If those are the wrong reasons then what are the right reasons? The idea with this edit is to have a way to watch the same movie but with all the alternative footage used, which is a great idea and a good way to see all the changes at once. Zombie knows his stuff, and he certainly knows Blade Runner. This is not the Phantom Menance or War of the Worlds, with a movie that is as great as BR the only story line changes you could make are bad ones.

Music
Time
I couldn't sleep last night, so I loaded up my mp3 player with some Roy D. Mercer clips (some of the funniest prank phone calls you will ever hear, I am sure I am not the only one here who has heard of him) and lay awake in bed listening to them. Brought back memories of my young teen years when me and my friends use to crack up over those things. When I came to the pet hamster one I started laughing so hard I had to run out of the room so as not to wake up my wife.

Since prank phone calls aren't music, I will add that I have also been listening to Warren Zevon's album Life'll Kill Ya a lot lately for some reason.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Thread
Time
Yeah, I'll give it another chance. I really like the first two Terminator movies. I just can't help seeing this for what it is, a cheap cash in on the franchise, and I would rather have had Terminator not have been reduced to that. But T3 already knocked the whole series down a few notches anyway. I know they are trying to appeal to guys with a very young Sarah Connor, but she hardly even looks old enought to be John's mom. I suppose after a couple of episode I could get over that though. Kind of disappointing that we didn't get an opening scene with Summer Glau time traveling naked then walking into a biker bar and demanding somebody give her their clothes.

Home made firearms are a lot easier to make than you think. I don't know what makes you think they are difficult to make, they are actually a very simple machines. But the idea that you would even have to bother to make homemade firearms is rediculous. There are plenty out there already, even if they are illegal there is nothing stopping dishonest people from obtaining them in illegal ways.

Of course not! A kitchen knife is a pretty pathetic excuse for a improvised weapon. You don't honestly think the guys second choice would have been a kitchen knife do you? Actually, had he really known anything he might have managed to take out a lot more people than he did. There are plenty of ways to hurt a lot of people without guns or kitchen kifes. Wars did not begin with the invention of the gun.

"If no one had guns, no one would have died at VT."

I really like this quote. I am not kidding, it really symbolizes a lot to me. But I don't want to get into that here.

Though I do feel inclined to say that the invention of the handgun was not the invention of death, just merely another means to death. If you think all violent crime would be absent with the banning of firearms, you would be sadly mistaken. Yes, the number of gun related crimes and violence would fall (though that is arguable, there are already a lot of guns out there on the black market), but when gun violence it simply replaced by a different type of violence what is the point? Guns are a lot cleaner than other methods of violence, not to mention the wholes are easier to patch up.
