opinions - how the release of the original to theatres was different than the new three films.
Time
As I have already said, I was not quite around yet in 1977, though I came pretty soon after. Reading COs account reminds me of things my dad has told me. He had heard from just about everyone that this movie was fantastic and had to be seen. He took my mom to see it some weeks after its release and couldn't believe it when he got to the theater it was so jam packed and the line was so long. They were completely sold out so they came back to see it another day. He said that the theater was so full that they had people sitting on the floor of the aisles and you could not have gotten up to use the rest room in the middle of the movie if you had wanted too. Sometime later after it left theaters and the hype had died down, but before ESB was released, he was at some kind of get together with a bunch of friends and they had checked out a section of reel from Star Wars from the local library. It was a piece of the trench run at the end of the movie. They hooked up the projector and watch that same scene over and over again. Everytime it would finish someone would ask if they could run it again.

You have come to the right place. The Demograph here includes a good deal of fans who actually saw the first film in theaters in 1977. I however, am not one of them, so I will not speak for them. But rest assured, you have come to the right place. Good luck with this project, I suppose finals are coming up within the next few weeks? Good luck with those too.

The history of Star Wars games
Time
I have not played Lego SW II, but I have seen demos of it at different shops. While I find it kind of silly, I think it would be a pretty fun "father-son" sort of game. I remember how many great times I had playing two-players on Pac-Man with my dad when I was a kid. It is kind of nice there are still some two player games like that being made, games that are kid friendly but interesting enought to entertian an adult too. Wii seems like a great system for that aswell, if I had kids I would not hesitate to buy one.

As for Jedi Academy, it felt kind of rushed. I was disappointed, but still enjoyed it (though I still have yet to beat it), it wasn't that bad if you didn't pay full price for it, and consider it more of an expansion pack for Jedi Outcast. I liked the master and apprentence OT style setup, and the way you traveled around from planet to planet doing different missions. I found that somehow reminicent of the original Dark Forces. I really wish they would make a new SW game that puts you in the shoes of an average shmoe in the SW galaxy. A shmoe who knows nothing about the force, has never met Luke Skywalker, and had little or no connection to the Rebels. It is an interesting galaxy with a lot to explore, too bad most games are bogged down with the same ol thing again and again. This is the reason why Dark Forces and the X-Wing series still rank as my favorite SW games of all time. How cool would a GTA Coruscant be? You could be involved in organized crime SW style. Imagine being able to choose your character from a large rang of various aliens, and being chased by Imperial Stormtroopers instead of cops. This coming from a guy who is not a GTA fan, it would be pure gold.

New 'The Clone Wars' movie trailer
Time
Yeah, so Anakin will have to participate in another podrace in order to get money that is worth something, he'll meet up with Watto to discover that he has rebuild Anakin's old pod (the one that was smashed up from the last race he had prior to EP.I), since Watto feel bad about selling Ani's mom to some crazy old man who lives out in the middle of nowhere, farming water of all things (I like how there is actually a seasonal water harvest) who let her be taken by biped animals while she was out alone picking the mushrooms that grow on the moisture vaporators. Since Watto feels bad, he let's Anakin pilot his pod with the promise of a certian percentage of the winnings. This time Anakin has to participate in a series of races to make enough money. Meanwhile, a new Sith Lord has been sending his mini probe droids all over the city in search of him. Finally he makes enough money and they head back to their ship in order to go and pay the ransom for the Hutt kid, when suddenly the Sith Lord swoops down on his Sith Super Speeder™. As Anakin senses the Sith presence he shouts out for his apprentice to "duck!", but it is too late. Her head is knocked clean off. Anakin fights the sith and wins, screams and cries about the death of his apprentice, then gets in his ship and pays the kidnappers. The Hutt is free, and someday his dad can attempt to kill Anakin's son. Credit roll. You heard it here first folks. The complete summary of the new movie.

You know, a lot of bad things can be said about Palpatine and his Galactic Empire, but their establishment of the Intergalactic Credit Exchange sure made a lot of peoples lives easier. I have a feeling Darth Vader had something to do with this (Dammit, everytime I go home I have to participate in some friggin race before I can buy any thing!)

You make a great point and good argument! But it works the same on all sides of every single political and social issue. Your "shit mixed dish" analogy is exactly how lots of folks feel about the Bush administration's reasons for going to war. There is so much bullshit in the mix that like many people, I can't take any of his justifications for the Iraq war seriously, or as you put it, "eat his shit dishes". Most people in America on all sides of the political spectrum eat up bullshit because it's what they want to believe, not taking the time to try and filter fact from fiction at all. And it's not going to change anytime soon. There is no pure truth out there, and one must go above and beyond one or two media, religious, political, education, or entertainment sources to form a logical perspective of issues. It's human nature to accept what makes you feel good without question, and most people in the public eye use that to their political advantage.

Agreed on all points.

The finest most carefully made gourmet dish mixed with shit might as well be pure shit. In the end only shit eaters are going to eat the shit mixed dish. Moore is a retard, it is really sad to see so many people eat his shit dishes. You can't really hide behind the excuse that his films are still valid based on a few honest tidbits surrounded by hyperbole and bending the truth for entertianment values sake. If the honest tidbits in his films are so scandalous, then why do they require stretching for the sake of ticket sales? Just a thought.

Yeah, they are not doing them in order, though I had kind of hoped that would be the case, but instead they are doing them based on OT, PT, then it looks like they will get into the extras. It is suppose to be ten parts right? Two parts for the OT so far, hopefully no more than two parts for the PT, that leaves six parts for everything else. That seems like a lot though, is it really going to be ten parts?

It is good to know it hasn't gotten quite that bad yet, but still to find all of the above with a couple of quick google searches still makes me uneasy. Still such extremist examples as the two links I posted seem more like relics of times past than the shape of the future. Pretty sad parents feel the need to instill such idiocy in their young.

Legs could potentially be better for off road terrain then wheels. Wheels are just much eaiser to get stuck, and on a side note, as matter of personal opinion a robot meant for the battlefield bearing legs would be pretty lame. No matter how good of an ATV you have, it isn't going to take you everywhere. Nothing beats your own to legs when it comes to off road excursions. Robotic legs would need to be highly developed to be of much use, which up to now they haven't been. That is why you don't see wheel chairswith legs. Also this type of technology takes a lot of money to develop, there just isn't enough money in the medical field for something so complex to be developed for it. The average consumer could never afford a price that will beable to come anywhere near making up for the costs of these things. Typically the biggest strides in technology come from warmachines, R&D for weapons, that is just a simple fact that can never change.

It is weird isn't it, these "dictator watches". And everyone accepts it apparently. Imagine what would happen if Germans start selling Hitler watches as souvenirs.

Well, it isn't that it is widespread. I have never actually seen anyone with a Mao watch, Sean's is the first I have ever heard of. And it is not like they are produced and sold in America as novelty items. They are pieces of Chinese propaganda, made and sold in China. I think it is more the American's sense of humor (yeah, somehow some of us find things like Mao watches humerously ironic) that gets them imported and sold on ebay. I highly doubt anyone who is buying or selling these things are really Mao fans.

Lordjedi seems to think that most Americans would not even know who the hell Mao Tse-tung is, and I must concede that he is probably right, a lot of people are pretty clueless. But a lot of us here obviously recognized him, and I know the people I hang out with would recongnize him. I think anyone who knows their history and saw people wearing these things around would likely take offense.

Also it should be noted that while the Guevera shirts are pretty popular, there are actually a good deal of people that take issue with it and are offended by them. I hear people complain about them from time to time, but for the most part, most people don't have a clue who he is, and alot of the ones who do have a clue don't really stop to make the collection. Guevera is known more for his bravery and his standing up and dying for what he believed in than he is known for being a marxist. Most people identify him with the world "freedom fighter" rather than "communist". He has become kind of a brand name and it is "hip" to wear him around. Not trying to justify it, this is shameful ignorance. I just wanted Arnie to know that American's in general are not okay with wearing clothes promoting dictators.

As far as for Germans selling Hitler watches, the Germans are pretty sensitive about that part of time in their history, no such thing would happen there. But with the whole "holocaust never happened" crap that seems to be getting increasingly popular, Hitler seems to becoming less and less of a bad guy. Might not belong before some idiots start touting him a hero who was wronged by the evil American Empire and their worldwide police force. In fact, this is probably already happening, I'd google it, but I am feeling in a fairly positive mood at the moment and I do not wish to spoil that just yet.

Maybe a good idea would be to read one of the books before you go and think they are crasy stories. Movies on par with the OT could be made using some of the books as templates its not all garbage.

After I made my response to your post I felt like I had been kind of harsh. You wrote about something you though was interesting and wanted to hear the opinions of other fans, and I pissed on you. Sorry about that, I was just saying how I felt about it, but I can see how it would come as kind of a hit to you, especially since I was the very first response.

I actually liked the EU back in the very beginning. I really liked Zahn's books, and I really like Shadows of the Empire (perhaps more the concept than the actual book). I have had other fans tease me for liking Shadows of the Empire. It just seemed like it got to the point were every time I pick up an EU novel that seemed interesting it would end up sucking so badly I would put it down. I just got kind of irritated at how much they sucked. Now that the PT is out the market seems flooded with the things. I have never given the newer ones (such as NJO) a chance, just not interested, but perhaps I am wrong about them and they are not as crappy as most of the pre PT books. It would be nice to be able to enjoy Star Wars stories that take place in the OT era that are as well written as Zahn's.

Two anti-American, mass murdering, communists... Now their images are being worn as fashion statements by the Echo Boomers.

Even though I said I earlier that I think I would be fun to wear a Mayo watch around, I'd like to clarify that I agree with you, I really think it is obscene. My wearing it would be a form of mockery of the Echo Boomers, but now that it seems that these things sale on ebay fairly commonly, I guess it wouldn't be much of a mockery.

I do like to collect communist trinkets though, and I have a few soviet things as well as things from some of the tinier former communist countires. As I mentioned before, I couldn't hate communism more, but I do have some sort of morbid curiosity of it. I really like reading about dictators and the histroy of former communist states. I find it interesting how a whole country can rally around one authority figure. It is really interesting to me what kinds of things pull a country into such a form of government and what kinds of things pull it out. I use to think a country like America could never under any circumstances fall into such a position, but as the years move on I am more and more convinced that it is a very real possibility.

That thing is noisy as hell! I'd hear it coming from extremely far away and unless it had long range weapons on it (guided missiles), you could probably take it out pretty easily with an RPG. Still, it's a step in the right direction.

Imagine a whole army of these things hoping along. It would take a lot of RPGs to take them all out. Regular bullets that can take an organic soldier down with just one hit, even a non fatal hit, will have very little effect on these things.

[What's blatant about it? It's a Chinese guy waving with the Chinese flag in the background. It's not like the guy is ordering the execution of a prisoner right there on the watch. In either case, if you don't know who the guy is or what he's done, you'd have no idea what you're wearing.

What is blantant about it??? That is not just some Chinese guy, that is Mao Tse-tung. That is about as blatant as wearing Joseph Stalin or Adolf Hitler on your wrist.

Che Guerra is not from Venezuela, he is from Agentina, but he is famous for his involvment in the Cuban Revolution. He was one of Fidel Castro's men, until the United States captured and executed him. He is a Cuban national hero and you will likely not only find depictions of him on clothes and watches in Cuba, but you will find many statues, momuments and memorials dedicated to him as well. He is a hero for what he stood for and loved for it by many though not all Cubans. Or at least they have to pretend they love him, certian governments are a bit quarky like that.

In my opinion, China and clothing stores who sell shirts with Guevara are doing the same thing, propaganda. Only the clothing stores do it for money, and the idiots who buy the stuff buy it because it is cool and either they are the hippie types who think they are real communisnts because communism is the way to go, or they simply just want to be cool and have no idea nor care who the hell the guy on their shirt is.

Those Che Guerra shirts have always really bothered me. Seems like people wear them just because they are cool and not because they really know what he stood foor. At least with Sean's watch the reference is so blatant. Also it is an authentic piece or Chinese propaganda, not something purchased at the local hot topic.

I am very anti-communist, but I'd really have a lot of fun wearing that watch around. It would become one of my most prized possessions I am sure. If I ever make it to China, I'll be sure to buy one. It would make a great companion to my small collection of Soviet medals.

LOL! The part where it is slipping on the ice really cracked me up. Man, that thing is eerie. Just imagine walking through the forest when you hear that buzzing sound, you turn around and see something that looks like a retarded horse without a head coming towards you...

And people still do not believe me when I speak of the inevitable, eventual, take over of the machines. Maybe people don't believe me now that all they see are people running around with blue tooth adaptors permanently affixed to their ears and blackberry devices glued to their hands, and earbuds seeping sound to their brains at all moments, but no doubt my theories will hold a lot more water to people once they see machines like this thing carrying around mounted machine guns and mowing down enemy infantry. When it was walking over the pile of cinderblocks, I could totally imagine this thing in the scene from the beginning of Terminator 2. Marks my words, there will be a day when dying at the hands of machines built to kill will be a common enough occurence.
