While Yoda says that size doesn't matter, he immediately adds that it only makes a difference in one's mind.  And, despite Yoda's insistence in the theory that size doesn't matter, in practice it clearly does to Luke, as he is able to levitate stones but simply cannot raise his X-Wing, a much heavier object, out of the swamp.  So to one who is not as in tune with the Force or does not possess as much faith, size certainly is an obstacle.

Hmm, this just reminded me of something, in AOTC, doesn't Yoda seem to grimace as if he is struggling as he uses the force to hold up the boulders to keep them from falling on Anakin and Obi-Wan. Yet in ESB, he simply closes his eyes and peacefully lifts a multi-ton space craft out of a swamp.

The whole struggling with boulders, while he is able to make himself float with ease seems to be a contradiction against his own "size matters not" philosophy.

Will the The New J.J. Abrams Star Trek destroy the Legacy of the original 1960's series? Discussion

The whole Worf explanation wasn't a problem to me, it was a funny joke, skirting the question rather than coming up with some convoluted in-universe explanation as to why the Klingon's had smooth heads like Enterprise ultimately did. The real world explanation of makeup limitations should be more than enough. Makeup limitations was also Gene Roddenberry's official explanation of the issue. When they made Star Trek The Motion Picture, they decided to make the Klingon's a bit more unique.

The last season of Enterprise was quite good, IMO. The mini-story arcs, written by people who actually understood the franchise and helmed by Manny Coto, were top-notch. I especially liked the one with Brent Spiner as a young Doctor Soong and the beginnings of the Eugenics Wars. Voyager was an abomination.

The existing canon should stop at the end of DS9. Voyager and Enterprise canon (except season 4) should be tossed out the window. Lord knows how this new movie's going to go down, though it's safe to say that in their attempt to reach a mass audience it will not be a hardcore fan pleasing film.

I grew up watching the original series on reruns, but TNG was the ST I really enjoyed as a kid, and I still enjoy it very much today, much more then TOS. So we are obviously coming from two different places.

Also to me, while Voyager sucked a good deal, it really had some great moments buried in there, especially in the middle seasons. And while DS9 is pretty much worshiped by Trekkies, I have been working my way through it from start till finish, I am only on the third season at this point, but my goodness, it has plenty of crappiness fit to rival Voyager.

As for Enterprise season four, that was quite funny actually. All along they had been saying, 'eventually we will do this and that, and we would really like to find some way to do that or this...' then the thing got canceled and they realized that season four was the end, so they cut to the chase and started doing all those things they said they always wanted to do. That is why we got the Gorn, the mirror universe, Orion slave girls, Dr. Soong, and Klingon foreheads all in the same season.

I must admit, I did enjoy some bits from season four of Ent., the Klingon forehead thing was unforgivable, typically fanboy sounding lame explanation for why TOS Klingons looked like Earthlings.

Yet ANOTHER DVD boxed set...*sigh*

Besides, if they did have new bonus material, wouldn't you be pissed that they expect you to buy the same '04 SEs again in order to get them?  The way they're doing it now at least makes the purchase a no-brainer.  ^_~

I never bought the '04s to start with, never had any temptation to, not even with the GOUT. However, I must admit, if this new boxed set coming out came with three new bonus discs for the original trilogy, I would at this moment seriously be considering departing with 50 of my hard earned dollars for this thing.

The only good thing I see about this new set is that it will rise the number of copies of the GOUT floating around. I intend to buy the GOUT when I can pick each of them up for around five bucks at a used DVD store. As of now, I have yet to see a single used GOUT at any used DVD place in my area (droves and droves of 04 and 05 boxed sets though).

Hmm, I was at Target today and I saw a Indiana Jones boxed set with all three movies in slimline cases (yuck). I had honestly thought the Indy trilogy had only had two releases thus far, the original four disc box, and the more recent non boxed individual movies. I was kind of surprised to see this three disc box, in horribly crappy looking packaging and slimline cases of all things. LFL is really lowering their standards. The thing was still $50 buck too. By the looks of it, it ought to have been no more than $19.99.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa kid. Let's back up a bit. I never said anything about you being stupid or not knowing how different things were back then. There was absolutely nothing in my post against you. Please go back and read it again, I really didn't mean you any harm with it. Sorry for the miss understanding.

All I said was I am pretty sure they have never cut off an artists hands for changing his work after releasing it to the public. You said they used to cut off their hands for changing things, I said I am pretty sure they never did that. I could be wrong though.

It's not really the outdoor environments that kill the speed in HL2:Ep2.  There's a graphics hardware feature that's utilized, especially in Portal, that must be hardware accelerated in order for Portal to run.  It simply will not work through software which is how the Intel cards do it.  That's why I'm kind of surprised you even got Portal to get as far as you did.  Most people have it crash the moment they step through the first Portal.

Using Vista I played through the entirety of Portal on my MacBook with a software accelerated Intel graphics card. Obviously it is not that big of a problem, even with the resource hog that is Vista. It is just Episode Two that I can't play on this thing.

I am afraid I can't share your enthusiasm ESHBG. Each of the prequels have nifty little two disc sets all prepared and ready, the whole OOT only got one extra materials disc shared for the whole trilogy.

So, which makes more sense? To (a.) release a six disc prequel set and a four disc OOT, (b.) to release a six disc prequel set and and go through all the work to give the fans an awesome extra three bonus discs with extra material on each of the OOT films, or (c.) to rerelease some crappy non anamorphic, poor excuse for a release "bonus" material disc that you already have thrown together?

Rereleasing the GOUT doesn't mean anything, it is simply just the most logical approach to the situation. Nothing more, nothing less.

That is nice, they match but they don't even match. Hopefully the actual product isn't like that, if it is I am afraid it might lead some to believe that LFL doesn't take the quality of their products seriously...

The only question I have left about this is whether they reused the cover art from the previous releases of each, or if we are going to be treated to something new that they had some employee throw together in Photoshop.

It is just a crappy Intel graphic card. Yeah, I played Portal from start to finish on it (through Vista), it got a little laggy sometimes, but nothing unbearable. And like I said, though crossover it worked (when it worked) perfectly, even with the graphics settings maxed out. HL2: Episode Two ran smoothly as far as load times and movement went, the graphic and textures were just glitchy enough to make it not any fun to play.

HL2: Ep2 has huge outdoor environments, the requirements for HL2 and HL2:Ep1 are considerably lower.

The battle of Yavin.
Time

The point was this giant war machine was coming to destroy the planet they were hiding on, which would have been a massive loss to the Rebel cause. And once the Empire had a weapon of mass destruction with the ability to destroy entire systems, their would be no stopping them. The glimmer of hope were the Death Star plans hidden in Artoo. By examining these plans, they discovered that the weak spot, this was their only hope.

The Battle of Yavin was a final stand, they could either retreat by evacuating the planet, or they could fight back and try to end this huge threat on the galaxy. They choose to do the later. They sent in all their fighters and pilots, on what was essentially a suicide mission. They were throwing everything they had at the Death Star in desperate hopes of being able to get some torpedoes into that exhaust port. Of course the pilots were suppose to protect one another and shoot down as many Ties and they could. The Y-Wings, which are bombers, were the ones intended to give the blow to the Death Star, and the X-Wings were really their to give the bombers cover fire, but in the end the job was left to the last fighter left standing, Luke and his X-Wing.

It is a MacBook. Obviously I didn't buy to to play games on. Its specs running under Vista more than meet the minimum requirements of the Orange Box, and like I said, I Episode One and Portal worked fine, just a little laggy at parts. Episode Two was so laggy it was unplayable, so I gave up on the idea of getting to play it long ago. Just a couple of days ago I heard about Crossover, so I thought I'd give it a go. As I said, Portal played beautifully, no lagging at all even with the graphic setting on high. Kind of strange it should work fine one moment, and consistently fail to load the menu screen later on. I was just curious if anyone else had had any experience with Crossover (or Wine) with games. For a while there I thought it was going to be a incredibly cool app., it doesn't support many games, but The Orange Box was one it claimed it could run quite well on most systems.

What I'd really wish I could do is run classic mac applications, unfortunately, Leopard doesn't support the classic environment. I'd really love to be able to play Escape Velocity: Override again.

The weirdest thing about the Force I have read in the EU would be the ysalamiri (sp?). Which really didn't bother me at all when I first read about it, though now I am not so sure how I feel about it. Other than that, it has always pretty much followed the OT's explanation of the Force. Although, long before the TPM, the EU has also expressed the idea that some are intune with the Force, and others are not, thus a Jedi is not something just anybody came become, but only those who possess an ability to use the Force, which the EU often seemed to indicate was passed on genetically.

Anybody use this program for running Windows apps in Mac OS?

I downloaded the trial version of Crossover Mac for games, used it to install Portal and Half-Life 2 Episode Two from my Orange Box disc. I have an Intel Mac with Vista installed, but for obvious reasons, I prefer not to use Vista at all. I only really use Vista for games, and I don't play a lot of games on my computer. I'd much prefer to play games under Mac OS, so I thought Crossover would be the perfect solution. Portal runs a little laggy at times under Vista on my computer, and Episode Two runs way too laggy to even be playable.

After installing and running Portal, I was pleased to see it it ran perfectly with absolutely no lag at all, even with the graphics setting turned up. I played it for a good while until it froze and crashed, since then it always freezes up on the first load screen and crashes. I tried playing Episode Two, and the graphics were so garbled it was impossible to play.

Not sure why Portal worked so well before, then completely stopped working, I had really thought this would work great

So, anybody else used this program before with better luck than myself? From browsing around on the web, it seems like most people get this to work without too many problems.

That would have been a lot better.

Really if Lucas wanted to give the Jedi council a reason to take Anakin seriously, and to help prove his Chosen One status, they could have just have had him display an amazing ability to use the force. It would have made even more sense and been much more effective had Qui-gon put Anakin through some sort of test (sense things through meditation, move objects with your mind, etc.) to check how intune with the force he was, and had him display the abilities of an advanced student of the force, far beyond that of any potential Padawans who had been tested in the past, even master Yoda.

You really like to go out of your way to go against the grain don't you?

I suppose you also thought that awesome Blade Runner set was overkill to don't you? But yet a 4,000 box of stills is a worthwhile collectible? Come on man, I think it is great you appreciate the limited edition hand selected stills, you a fan of that kind of thing, that is cool. Fans of Blade Runner, like me, absolutely loved the  overkill Blade Runner set, mostly because it was overkill, it had everything you could ask for and more. It was awesome. This Ghostbuster set sure isn't pointless over kill for anyone who was a big fan of the series when they were kids. It is nice when you can buy one box set and have everything you could ever possibly want, unlike the SW set which is rereleased with full expectation that loyal fans will buy it again every single time.

EDIT: Image shows up fine for me Gaffer, the image also includes the price, pretty steep at $179.99.

Yeah, um, I am pretty sure that never happened. Ever.

If George lived in Midieval times, he never would have made Star Wars. He'd also wouldn't get to wear those flannel shirts he seems so fond of. Other than that, I can't say much of how life would have been for him.
