Also, do you honestly hate Indy IV that much that you have to bring it into *every* post you make?

Well, I cannot answer for sky, but had this question been asked of me, the answer would be "absolutely!" It really is just that bad of a movie that I feel the need to mention just how bad it is in my every post. Such a bad movie that everyday I feel the need to run out into the streets and SHOUT until my voice goes hoarse, "Holy friken cow, what a steaming turd was Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It is months old and I still smell its rancid stink as if it had just been laid!" Such a bad movie that I want to curse its name with every breath I take, least I forget how truly awful it was. Yes, bkev, it was that bad of a movie. It was bad. So bad.

Fortunately, I have a good deal of self restrain, obviously skyjedi lacks this incredible will power that I, and a few others like me possess. But in all honesty, who can fault sky for this? Not everyone can have the self restraint of a god, even I feel my restaint falter at times.

Man, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was such a bad movie... *shudders*

Star Wars Galaxy
Time

I walked into a small shop over the weekend, and discovered they were having a huge sale on all their back issue comics, so I decided I'd thumb through the SW comics, maybe fill in the few holes in my collection. I ended up only finding one Droid comic I didn't have, all the other SW titles they had I didn't care anything about. However, I did stumble across several issues of Star Wars Galaxy Magazine. I bought one of every issue they had, just for old times sake. It is like going back in time to 1994, and it is bliss. No SE, no PT, just a really nerdy magazine about Star Wars, and all of it is down right awesome, because it is Star Wars and Star Wars is awesome. Ah, such a simple time... who says time machines don't exist? This evening, I have been hanging out in 1994 and reading the latest issue of SW Galaxy. I pulled that issues of Droids out of its sleeve to see an advertisement for the Star Wars Trilogy on VHS! Fantastic quality, remastered in THX! I am going to get a set as soon as it is released, I'll never have to buy another set of the trilogy again, this "one last time" set looks like like the most amazing set ever. Also, there was an advertisement for Rebel Assult II, the first one wasn't that great, but I heard this new one will have full motion video with live actors!!! Gonna be amazing, I can foresee it, heh heh heh.

Okay, back to reality... sigh...

Who, in this day and age, honestly thinks Democrats are out to protect them from the rich? What a bunch of bullshit. The Democrat leadership just passed a 700 billion dollar plan of crap to bail out all of their stupid, rich friends who got rich via government spending and regulations (as apposed to honest work). Not only that, they were bailing out themselves: most of our legislators are rich and have a lot of money invested in the firms which stand to lose money (after Democrats encouraged bad investments). What a fucking joke and the American people are the butt.

Couldn't have said it any better. But yet, even when presented with this reality, people like Janskeet will simply shrug it off without giving it a second thought and continue to think the way they do, but only because that is not what they WANT to believe. They want to believe there is somebody looking out for the poor, they want to believe that someone is going to give them a hand out, they want to stick their head in the sand when things in the world they do not like take place (example, 1993 World Trade Center bombing), they don't want to believe other countries or people might have something against them, they'd rather believe other countries have a problem with Bush and crazy religious Americans, but not with avergage Joe Schmoe. They want to think that if it was not for Bush and the damn Jews and Christians, that we would not have to worry about people like Saddam, instead we could just become evil dictators best friends and talk some sense into them over a game of pool.

It is such a fantasy world these people live in where the words "hope" and "change" as standalone concepts without anything in front of them or behind them somehow have very deep and profound meanings too them.

And no, don't take these comments the wrong way, I am not saying that the Republicans are the exact opposite of the Democrats, I have very little good things I can say about the Republicans at this point. I just think that it is amazing that some of you people can be lied to so much that you will believe anything, contrary to real evidence or facts.

Info Wanted: Your Favorite Fan Edits?
Time

I once thought that fan edits where the beginning of something really new and cool, but since then I have failed to see any one that really "worked". Many are too ambishous and in the end turn out to be crap (lot of the Lord of the Rings edits sounded cool, but seems nobody has had the talent to pull any of them off), others suffer from the fact that the movie is incredible terrible and the faneditor for some reason think the movie deserves to be improved and that they will be able to improve it, and others take a halfway decent to good movie that the editor thinks sucks and that they will be able to improve it and in the end butcher it (Pan's Labrynth Edits come to mind here).

Fan edits that work in my opinion are extended editions (which ADM is fantastic at), and preservations. I really liked ADM Blade Runner Hybrid edits, the quality was a bit uneven (something that I am sure is fixed now) but it really did take the best of both versions of the movie IMHO. The prequel movies have always made good fan edits, just because of the fact that the movies totally sucked, but had some bits that were watchable, so obviously removing the bad bits, if done well enough, would make for something interesting. But to me, even the much acclaimed Phantom Edit or Magnolia Fan edits, which I was impressed with at first glance, have never been worth coming back for a second viewing. I think Mag's first two edits are really hurt by the fact that he never completed the trilogy with a ROTS edit (unless I am mistaken).

All that negativity said, I think Adywan's Star Wars Revisited is one true exception to my negative opinion of full out fan edits. I do not think Adywan really improved on the film any, but what he did do is create an amazing alternative version of the film and show what someone with some true dedication is able to accomplish.

Another edit/preservation/hybrid/extended cut/whatever you'd categorize it as that I have found to be above avergage, and has actually become my definitive version of that particular film, is Ridgeshark's "Army of Darkness Primitive Screwhead Edition".

I will take a movie like Rocky, where he loses at the end, any day of the week over some action adventure movie that you know what is going to happen the minute the movie starts.

Like Star Wars or Terminator?

Anyway, it is ironic that we are talking about Terminator here, one of the few movies series that actually had continuity holes long before its first was ever even written. From the second movie, you had to know John would survive just as much as you know he will survive in TSCC. Same thing for T3.

And the whole thing about prequels not being able to have any plot twists without messing up existing continuity (such as Leia's recollection of her mother. Though I fail to see Padme's lame death being anything like a plot twist, slap in the face maybe, but definitely not a plot twist), I do not see to be true at all, and actually coming from a very limited story telling perspective.

The SW prequels could have been about absolutely anything, we knew relatively little about the story, just a few little fragments, as long the story kept just a few elements to it (Anakin and Obi-Wan being good friends and serving together in the clone wars, Anakin having conceiving twins, Anakin eventually being seduced by the Darkside and becoming Darth Vader, and Yoda surviving, the two trilogies didn't have to have very much in common at all, or mess up each other continuity in any way. Ol' George is the one who decided that everything had to be closely connected and that the universe had to be only slightly larger than my own living room. Plenty of other characters could have been introduced and allowed to live or die. Without disturbing continuity, it could have been discovered that several more Jedi other than Obi and Yoda were living as hermits on various other planets, or that there really was a duel between an apprentice of Obi-Wan who fell to the darkside and Anakin, only instead of being killed by him as Obi-Wan tell Luke, Anakin could have killed him in what began his fall to the darkside, in this way Obi-Wan could have personally felt that his other pupil really was the murderer of his close friend.

It is a sorry cop out to make excuses for the Star Wars prequels, or any other prequel, by saying that there is no way they could be good because you know what will happen. The SW PT had PLENTY of room for surprises, but in the end the only surprising thing was how each episode managed to be worse than the last.

Back to TSCC, as was seen in last weeks episode, and perhaps show even more tonight (hopefully), there is really no way to predict the direction this thing will take, it has plenty of room for surprises. Though in my opinion surprises in film and TV show are usually cheap gimmicks, especially modernly. M. Night R... however you spell his last name, is a perfect example of this. I feel cheated everytime I see one of his movies, sure I didn't know what was going to happen in the end, but the end ends being so lame and so far out there, of course nobody is going to guess the ending.

Are you really that ignorant? Seriously... the "tribesmen" from Raiders, the Indians from Doom, and the South Americans in Skull? What about the Chinese people in Doom and the middle easterns in Raiders? Man, go do some research on the people's actual cultures and get back to me.

You really call that racist? That is sad. Most people would not see it that way. In foreign media, you'll find exagerated depictions of Americans. Fair enough. I can see how real Indians may take offense, just like Americans get offended when they see how they are depicted or seen through others eyes.

As was mentioned already, Indiana Jones is NOT a documentary, hopefully people are not dumb enough to treat it like one and expect to learn anything real about the world from it.

Maybe the inaccurate and stereotypical depictions in the film could be considered ignorant, but they sure are not racist.

I think the prequel "flaw" everybody always talks about, it hardly as much of a flaw as some would have you think. Like, has already been said, it isn't the destination, it is the ride. Sure, we knew Anakin would be Darth Vader, and we knew Obi-Wan would survive and Mace Windu would die. Some people use this as a arguement "well of course the SW PT couldn't be good, you already knew what would happen!" Of course you did, but the ride could have still been enjoyable.

Who here went to the theater to see Terminator 2 and wondered if John was going to be killed by the liquid metal terminator or not? Of course he wasn't, just about anyone who knows anything about Hollywood movies knew that wasn't going to happen, yet they still enjoyed it the first time, and the second time, and the third time, and so on, that they watched it.

Have you ever been to a James Bond movie and honestly felt that Bond was in any real danger? You knew he would escape, you just never knew how. And yet those scenes still had a lot of tension to them. Still everytime I see Goldfinger's lazer heading toward Bond's crotch I squirm in my chair, just a little.

We know John will live, but actually, Sarah and everyone else are fair game. I do not think this hurts the show any, this season the show has had plenty of other problems, but knowing thar John will survive isn't one of them, IMHO. However, I must say, I really enjoyed the last episode, maybe it will be uphill from here. I am kind of thinking a full twenty some episode season was a bad idea, nine epiosdes is a little too short last seasn, but we are already seeing a lot of filler this season.

It may be a space saving feature, but why do you need to save space when the case is still the same size? It is really a matter of preference. I, and many like me, feel that duel sided discs are lame, and thus to us they are lame. It isn't style over function, what better function do flippers have that two discs don't? Nothing! Again, it is a matter of preference, and since most places are going with the 2 disc method, seems that the majority prefer that over the duel sided discs.

Yeah, we all know the data layer of the disc is only protected by the label, but the fact of the matter is the top side is NOT more prone to damage, because the polycarbonate layer scratches VERY easily. The labels are usually very sturdy and resistant to damage, at least all the discs I have owned have been.

And as far as Ziz saying it is more than likely someone in that much of a hurry is going to place the disc label side up so they can see what it is, well, from my experience that is highly unlikely. I always see people placing them label side down on top of the player, I have seen friends of mine do it, my sister does it, and my wife does it. Bugs the crap out of me, just put the thing back in its case. I am grateful that at the very least, they put it label side down. It would take quite a lot to scratch through the label, and since my DVD player does not have an extremely rough and jagged surface or is not covered in rocks or cement, this has never been a problem for me. On the other hand, the polycarbonate on the data side of the disc scratches like mad just by using the wrong kind of cloth to remove smudges. Despite my wife putting my discs label side down on my player, and my sister doing the same before here, my discs all remain in pristine condition, both on their data side and on their label side.

^ Sorry about that man. I know how embarrassing it is when you are around a lot of people and suddenly burst out in laughter. Especially when you are at work reading a SW forum (we've all done it).

"What's so funny?"

"Oh, un nothing..."

"Well your laughing pretty hard for nothing"

"Well, yeah, you see I was at this Star Wars site... err, I mean... someone emailed me a joke.

"Alright, if its so funny let's hear it!"

"Uh, well, it was this really raunchy and inappropriate sex joke, I'd really be too ashamed to repeat it, sorry...

each week's supposed to be a different genre. there will be the cutsy kid ones, but also the more mature and darker ones.

Wow, sounds just like the PT, one moment fart joke, the next the mass slaughtering of children. [GL voice]This is a kid's movie, it always has been a kids movie, it is made for kids, adults just don't want to accept that, that is why they don't like Jar Jar, it reminds them that this movie is made for kids... this is a more mature film with much more serious romantic scenes so that young teenage boys will be able to get their girl friend to go see it in the theater with them. Oh yeah, and then there is this scene where a kid watches his mom die, then murders a whole community of humanoid lifeforms. And finally, there is a scene where a little child sees his father decapitated by Samuel L. Jackson. I always kind of wanted to explor the theme of kids watching their parents die, and I thought, hey, it really works for this movie, so I went with it... this is an even more mature film, intended for kids, featuring our hero murdering many children who think he is there to help them, but it is okay because he murdered them in order to save his wife, whom he loves very dearly. Oh yeah, then later he decided to kill her and their unborn child as well, just for the hell of it. Oh yeah, then his best friend cuts off all of his appendages and watches as he bursts into flames and slowly and painfully sinks into a pit of lava. Oh, and finally, to top it all off, his wife lived long enough to give birth to her baby, who just so happened to be two babies, and while there was nothing physically wrong with her, she decided the two little bastards were not worth living for and simply died just for the hell of it, leaving the two new borns orphaned.[/GL voice]

Good quality children's programming through and through. I am most certainly looking forward to the Clone Wars series continuing this trend. One episode they will save Jummyuka, the Kashyykian flying squirrel who falls out of tree and breaks his arm, his dream is to fly again, and with the encouragement and some light hearted lessons from our Jedi friends, Jummyuka's wing heal and the episode ends with him flying off into the sunset. Next episode, Anakin is forced to cut the antenna off of a community of Rodians for failing to cooperate with some Jedi investigation, meanwhile, back on Corescant, Obi-Wan and Mace Windu are forced to torcher some Ithorians who were discovered to have been helping the Seperatists.

Whoa, I just realized that Luke watched evey one of his parents/parenting figures die. In ROTS baby Luke witnesses Padme's last breath, in ANH he sees the charred remains of the people who raised him, then he sees his new mentor Obi-Wan cut down, later, not that he had known Yoda long enough to grow too fond of him, but I am sure watching him suddenly die for no reason must have added salt to the wound, and finally in ROTJ he is reunited with his long lost father, only to watch him die and have to burn his remains. Sucks.

Lucas' Red Tails
Time

He came up with the story idea, but other than that, no not really. I could actually almost see LFL becoming a film studio making some pretty decent films, if they can shake off SW and Indy and move on. He has got the money, and at one point he had the right mindset, make good movies without studio meddeling. Of course, now he has become the meddeler. Be interesting to see how Red Tails goes, and if any of those guys ever want to work with George again. Reminds me of what a great game company LucasArts was, until they went 98.9% SW, and not even quality SW but rubbish. LucasArts once had a very good reputation as a game company, now when you hear it you automatically think, oh yeah, they are the ones who make all the SW games.

I'd like to see LFL become a film comany along the lines of LucasArts former self.

Just watched Empire of Dreams again for the first time since it first came out in 04. It is infuriating how you have all these great history guys in the history of modern film saying possitive things about George interspliced with clips of George saying, "Hell yeah, that's me alright! I am pretty f ing awesome." All those things they said about young Lucas was cool, and I always admired him for those things, but splicing old George's less than humble self into the mix every 15 seconds make it a puke fest to watch, but as soon as I was able to mentally block those things out, I started remembering how much potiential was there and how great I thought this man once was.

Before I have said that I would gladly have given up Empire and ROTJ to have lived in a reality where SW failed and George went on to be a serious director. I'd loved to see what great tales the maker of THX 1138 and American Grafitti could have shown us. I know I am just dreaming, but I'd actually really like to see the redemption of old George with an extreme turn around, where he will be remembered as the guy who was responsible for some truly amazing movies as opposed to the guy who Rebelled against the system and fought to make countless silly kids movies.

Something that has always bothered me about Blu-ray from day one, the cases. I find them very unattractive, being bright blue just doesn't do it for me. Anybody else feel this way?

PS3 cases being clear plastic is a large improvement, but the blue of the blu-ray discs really distracts from the artwork. I almost enjoy my DVD collection just as much for their nice shiny cases look as I do for their watch ability. I don't think I could ever feel that way for a blu-ray title.

I have always felt the same way about Xbox cases vs. PS2 cases, the green case looks fine enough for some games with lots of green in the label, like Halo, but for other games it looks like crap. PS2 games on the other hand, with their dark blue/black cases and that sleek black steak across the top doesn't conflict with any box art.

Take Half-Life 2 for Xbox or the Orange Box for 360 for example, both contain large amounts of orange on the cover art, contrasted with the green case, it just looks awful. Look at their PC counterparts with black cases, 100% improvement.

Green and blue just are not nutrual enough colors, I know they want to be unique, but it just doesn't look good. Or am I the only one who feel this way?

I think it is time for me to go to bed, I am starting to rant about ridiculous things.

Anybody here try low carb diets?
Time

That is why it doesn't work man, if you break down and start eating carbs, your not really on a low carb diet. I personally know a few people who have had great success with this diet, but they all gained the weight back later. That is the problem with any diet, and why none of them really work. A diet is a temporary change in lifestyle and eating habbits, so it should be no surprise to most people when the results are also temporary. The best way to loose weight and stay healthy is to exercise. Nobody wants to hear that, but it is the truth. Laziness and weightloss being compatible is a myth, or if you do manage to find away, it probably isn't something very healthy for you (drugs, parasite, etc.).

Just try walking for an hour a day, it isn't the best exercise program out there, but you'd be surprised how much it helps when your body is used to sitting around and being inactive all day. An hour a day seems like a long time, but it really isn't. Just find a nice park nearby or an area you like and start walking, the hour will be over before you know it. It is a good time for thinking, but if you must, grab a pair of headphone and a music player. On top of the hour a day, watching what you eat wont hurt. If you are quite over weight, it probably means you eat considerably more than you actually need. Eat the things you enjoy, but eat them in smaller quantities. Limit the amount of "crap" you eat as well, don't indulge in donuts or fast food all the time, once or twice a month is okay, but if you make it a daily or weekly habit, you are just hurting yourself. Coca-Cola, and other pop/soda/whatever you want to call it, it also pure crap. If you are a soda drinker, dropping that out of your life will be a big improvement.

It is really sad to see so many people in their college years being so overweight, and then to see them spend their freetime sitting around playing video games and having contests to see who can eat the most pizza in the cafe just so they can brag "I ate 17 slices!!!". Once you get older, you'll find that weight nearly impossible to loose, while right now it is not as hard as you think.

Don't diet, be active and cut back. If you want the weight loss to last, don't do it temporarily, but make it part of your lifestyle.

Dragonball Z
Time

Kind of off topic, but since the discussion of me not liking anime took place in this thread, I figured it should be the place for me to announce that I finally found one I am really enjoying. There is an old anime from the late seventies, call Remi or Sans Famille, or in Japanese "Ie Naki Ko", it is based on the novel Sans Famille by a French writer named Hector Malot. My wife used to watch an Italian dub of it on TV when she was a kid (apparently they used to air crap loads of anime in her country). There has never been an English dub the best I can tell. Recently I found her the entire run of the series on DVD in Spanish (couldn't find it in Italian, but she knows Spanish too, so no big deal). I have been watching it with her, and I am really enjoying it. It is obviously not adult level anime and intended for kids, but it has some pretty heavy themes to it.

Even though I am a big Sci-fi fan, I think I'd be more prone to enjoying anime that is not sci-fi. Perhaps it is too science fictiony for me. I know a lot of classic books have been adapted to anime cartoons, if they were easier to find, I think I would really enjoy them.

They did a Star Wars manga several years back, I still think it would be really cool to see a Star Wars anime series. That would be something I'd set my recorder for every week.

Wow, Leonard Maltin wrote a letter to you. That is awesome! I should really try writting to famous people more often and seeing if they reply to me, I could leave a printed copy of the letter on my desk, and when friends come over they see it and be like, "Dude! You know Chuck Palaniuk?" And I'll be all like, "Pfft, yeah dawg, he and I were pretty tight back in college, don't really keep in touch all that much anymore though."

That be pretty sweet...

It would especially be cool to have direct replies from guy like Richard Matheson, and Alan Dean Foster, Ray Bradbury or up until just a few years ago Kurt Vonnegut.

Okay, but don't think Leonard Maltin doesn't already know the whole deal with the SW trilogy. Everybody knows it, they act like they don't but they do. The fact of the matter is, Lucas owns those movies to a far greater degree than most film makers own their own films. He worked hard to find a way out of the creative control of the studios, and he managed to do so. Impressive stuff, rogue film maker on the loose, watch out world, this guy is independently wealthy and has broken free of the control of the studios, every film maker's dream, this guy is going to be able to make some seriously amazing stuff! No, no, maybe not, maybe he'll just remake Star Wars over and over and over and over and over, with a little Radio Land Murders, Howard the Duck and some Willow for added color. What a waste... In the end the guy became worse than what he was fighting against. That is the true tradgedy. I wish young George could meet old George, I am pretty sure he'd slap him. Man, young George was awesome, that guy is still a hero of mine. Too bad he turned into a Jabba impersonator that makes crappy films and ruins good ones.

They all know this, the preservation organization know this, Jon Mulvaney knows this, Leonard Maltin knows this, they all know what has happened.

As Leonard Maltin said, "I know you are just one of many fans who've been upset over this, so surely his staff is aware of the outcry."

Indeed they are aware of the outcry, and while they may actually care, George doesn't. With George is where the problem begins and ends. AFI, Jon Mulvaney, Leonard Maltin, and nor anyone else is going to be able to help you, because they can't. And now that the discs do in fact have an offical release, crappy as it may be, there is not a whole lot of room left for saying George destroyed them, because there they are.

His middle name is Walton.

George or georged, just sounds so much better than Lucased. "They sure georged that movie up with the new DVD release!" sounds a lot better than say, "They really lucasized that movie with the last DVD release" or "They sure lucased that release!" or even, "Man, did you see that new DVD release, talk about a walton of a release!"

I think we should stick to george. But, I think, as sluggo may or may not have already pointed out, it is very likely people will take it as a reference to Gee Dubbaya.

On a side note, George Lucas' wikipedia page had a link to this guys wikipedia page, Gyogy Lukacs, of whom I am now a huge fan.

I see no foots in any mouths, have no idea what you are talking about on that one.

But lj is right, there is no evidence to say "most" of the members here are right-wingers, there is only a small handful of us that participate in political discussion, and it appears that many of that handful lean to the right in someway or another.

As for the sight being aimed at people who don't like any new adaptations of Star Wars??? It has never been about that, it has been about wanting the original Star Wars trilogy on DVD. Since then it has become a place for preservation, including thins such as the theatrical versions of the PT.

I guess the idea of preservation is a seemingly "right-wing" idea, I do not believe it is, but either way, it really cannot be pigeon holed like that.
