Anything yet?
Anything yet?
So, the track will likely end up being LPCM 2.0, or something like that?
Yes. Even if the audio turned out to be Dolby Surround encoded it would still be
captured as LPCM 2.0. The decoding to surround occurs during playback by the users’ receiver.
The digital audio on laserdisc is always 16 Bit 44.1 kHz LPCM. The analog audio can be
captured any way want. I will capture it at 24 Bit 96 kHz.
Now I’m just hoping that the laserdisc has the original theatrical soundtrack.
How will you know if it’s the original theatrical soundtrack, or not?

LD audio is better than the DVD? Do you know something about their history? I could try my hand if the two need to be blended somehow, such as surround channels being more dynamic in the LD.
I believe the LD audio is actually stereo, so it doesn’t use the surround channels at all. However it’s supposedly the original theatrical audio mix, whereas the DVD mix was a new one done for the DVD release. The Laserdisc audio is also supposed to be nearly lossless whereas the DVD has a compressed AC3 mix. The best option would be to include both. I’d bite the bullet but:
1.) I already spent too much on this movie importing the PAL DVD
2.) I don’t have a laserdisc player, or any of the equipment I would need to properly capture the audio. The laserdisc has Dolby Surround encoded audio. The stereo soundtrack can be decoded to surround by any
receiver or pre-amp with prologic II. You get 4 channels: right, left, center and mono rear. I haven’t
heard it personally but it would be lossless and most likely the original theatrical audio mix.Edit: I just purchased a copy of the laserdisc from Ebay. I will be able to provide a digital and analog copy
of the audio for the project. I’ll also check it out through my receiver and see what it sounds like decoded
to surround.
I don’t see “Dolby Surround” on the laserdisc back cover. Odd.
I decided to ask Jerry Rees if he owns the BLT laserdisc, and as a matter of fact, he does! It’s in his collection.
What audio source will likely be used? The Disney DVD?
Found this image, idk is it relevant:

That should be in the ANH:R topic.
I did ask the same question, and Adywan told me this:
“The Death Star plans during the briefing will be how they appeared in the SD version of ANH:R. But they will also tie into the originals as seen in Rogue One. You’ll just have to wait and see.”
Have the scans and encodes arrived yet?
There’s one small addition to TESB:R that I just noticed, that I thought was actually pretty effective from an editing perspective. It’s the addition of the orange twin-pod ship in the Cloud City establishing shot right after Luke leaves Dagobah. Now we’re following it right as it enters the city into the next shot added to the SE. I don’t know why that brown floating structure on the left side of the first shot was removed, though.
@adywan Even if the Blu-Ray’s audio will be lossy (I hope not), will it still sound close enough to lossless?
I am reading “Shadow of the Sith” now, and one thing I noticed is that when Luke sees Anakin’s Force Ghost flickering out after he used his energy to bring him out of Exegol, the Sebastian Shaw version is briefly seen. It seems like the author is compensating for those who still wish that Shaw was the one seen at end of ROTJ, while still having the Hayden Christensen version work at the same time. Clever.
I am also in contact with Jerry Rees the director of the original film and Brian McEntee who helped color time the original film to help work on restoration and general guidance.
Thanks to me!
There is one goof that was fixed for the 2020 version of ANH that was overlooked in the first version of Revisited.
Mark Hamill is standing in the small room on the right side of this shot when he’s not supposed to be there.

Are you also going to do anything about the voice clarity? Sometimes it’s very clear, like it comes from an ADR booth, sometimes the volume often changes between characters, and sometimes background ambient sound can be heard when they’re talking.
Why exactly were Vader’s lines “Your powers are weak, old man” and “You should not have come back” switched in the original ANH:R? You never gave a reason.
One of the changes made to the original version of ANH:R is the Tantive IV alarm being changed to the mono mix version. I’m guessing it will now be reverted to the original Dolby version, since it’s heard at the very end of Rogue One.
There’s one little mistake I noticed in the movie that has never been fixed.
I don’t think Vader’s forearm should be bending like this, especially after it was cut off at the wrist.
I know that not everybody is exactly on board with the Kenobi show, but it is what it is and it’s canon.
So, what about adding some burnt blasters next to the corpses of uncle Owen and aunt Beru? Just to give them a bit more satisfying end.
I don’t think it’s necessary. Maybe we can just assume they were killed before they could get them. The Stormtroopers were obviously quite brutal to them, having burned them to skeletons in a rather short time.
It is. The 2004+ versions of ANH have tried to remix Vader’s voice to match his TESB/ROTJ voice to mixed results. Ady did a way better job than them, it’s one of the things I’m looking forward to the most in ANH:R 1080p.
Where can I find a comparison between how he sounded in ANH before 2004, and after?
Is it just me, or is the sound mixing of Vader’s voice different in ANH than it is in TESB and ROTJ?
I just wish the fanbase wasn’t so passionate and entitled all the time, because that’s the mentality of the Sith.
What?
The Sith rely on their passion for their strength. They think inwards, only about themselves.
That mentality is what led to people actually coming up with a campaign to remake The Last Jedi.
You seem to confuse everything… and to make generalizations and assumptions that land flat.
I rest my case.
I just wish the fanbase wasn’t so passionate and entitled all the time, because that’s the mentality of the Sith.

One thing I’ve noticed with modern Star Wars opinions among the fan base is that for the most part, if a show or movie stars characters from the mainline Skywalker Saga, then it’s bad. If it doesn’t, and only has them in cameos, then it’s good.
I wonder if it might be the worst thing that ever happened in Star Wars canon.
The Chuck Wendig books exist.
So in movie/tv media then.
Nope, that’s still AOTC, the Ewok movies, BOBF, or TROS, depending on how a person is feeling that day.
Don’t forget the Holiday Special.
I envy you all for liking the episode, for real. For me episode 6 was really disappointing. This need to be the climax, but episode 5 had better moments than this. Vader vs Obi-Wan looks so much like a fan-film, even their fight in episode 3 was more emotional than this, and episode 4 had better sets than this one too. I’ll not even talk about Reva… My god.
What exactly constitutes something looking like a fan-film?
I’m interested to know, Ady, if there’s anything from the Obi-Wan Kenobi series that either confirmed some decision you were on the fence about, or that you’ll change now that you’ve had the additional info?
There isn’t anything from that terrible series that will influence me in any way apart from maybe using some fx elements.
There isn’t really anything in ANH that would need to be changed to accommodate for anything in the Obi-Wan series like you did for the Death Star tunnel from Rogue One. I’m sorry you didn’t like the series. To each his own.
