Clone Wars/Revenge of the Sith (SiliconMaster + 21C Peasant Fan + Bailey + Hello There)
Time

I’ve added a cameo of a live action Ahsoka at Padme’s funeral (by 21C Peasant Fan) to SiliconMaster’s Revenge of the Sith - Rebalanced. This can be paired with the final episode of Clone Wars, which Bailey has intercut with Hello There’s Battle of the Heroes. If you’d like a link, it’s in the same place as the Galaxy of Adventures. If you don’t have the link yet, please send me a Private Message here. Thanks.

Galaxy of Adventures: The Original Trilogy (by Wakeupkeo, Irishpunk, Hal9000 & Bailey)
Time

Great to hear! ESB absolutely was the movie that got the most attention from Titmouse Animation. You can tell how much love they have for the movie. Unfortunately, RotJ kind of got the short end of the stick in comparison. There was absolutely no footage from the 3rd act for Hal9000 and Bailey to work with. However, I think they still managed to craft a satisfying story out of the existing material. Hopefully, it works for you.

Just saw A New Hope, and oh my! This was Star Wars on speed! 😄

This was really high paced, with no place for a little breather for an old man like myself. Action, action, action! But indeed a fun watch. I especially liked the flashbacks and to see a clip of Han changing his mind about helping the rebels.

Amazed by the skills of the editor. Looking forward to watch the rest!

Thanks for the feedback! I was very happy with how Wakeupkeo was able to weave them all together so seamlessly for his A New Hope edit. I agree with you about the little additions Titmouse Animation made to the original films, like showing the moment of Han changing his mind or Luke & Han’s stunned reactions to Leia’s badassery–that bit gets a huge laugh from my classes every time.

Please let us know what you think of the next two. With ESB, Irishpunk was the luckiest of the editors because he had the most footage to work with. That edit, like the movie itself, tends to be the most popular with my students. However, I continue to be very impressed with how well Hal & Bailey managed to stick the landing with their RotJ edit. Not one of my students has noticed thus far that the animation styles for the space battles are completely different 😉

This is such an excellent edit. Very well done. Maybe it’s just me but I felt like battle of the heroes portions are of a slightly lesser quality than everything else. It just doesn’t look as sharp. Anyone else see this?

My guess would be the lack of sharpness is the ‘film grain’ that Bailey added to better match the much higher quality animation of the Clone Wars episodes. Since the Batttle of the Heroes fan film is serving as a ‘Force Vision’ that Ahsoka’s having, it worked for me.

As I discovered with his Galaxy of Adventures RotJ work, Bailey’s very good at coming up with creative solutions to these sorts of things. Obviously, the ideal situation would be for Disney to cough up the cash for a proper version of it, but I’m not holding my breath 😉

The Black Hole (1hr 20min Cut)
Time

The Black Hole is an odd duck of a movie. It’s trying to be a deep sci-fi film like 2001, a fun space opera like Star Wars, and a creepy haunted house in space story, all while trying to be family-friendly Disney fare. It fails to be all of them at once. However, there’s some good stuff in there once you chip away at a lot of the fat and the scenes clearly added to keep kids awake during another scene of middle-aged character actors talking.

I was surprised to find an ESL book adaptation that I found much better than the actual movie. It’s very similar, but moves much faster and cuts a lot of the less successful stuff. I tried cutting the movie to be closer to the book, although there are certain things that I can’t do. For instance, the ship’s pilot is a young Asian woman in the book, Borgnine’s character is also quite different. and B.O.B. isn’t in it at all.

As a result, the main changes in this edit are that much of B.O.B.'s scenes are cut, as is the robot playroom shoot out scenes. There’s a few trims for pacing here and there, but otherwise, the film is what it is, for better or worse. My fan editing skills aren’t able to accomplish much more than that.

The movie’s split up into several ‘chapters’ that follow the book. Each one is about 20 minutes as I’m using it for my ESL classes. English subtitles are included. Please send me a PM if you’re interested.

I suspect the deluge of Clone Wars finale edits was the reason yours was lost in the pack. I know I certainly didn’t notice your edit when it was first announced. I probably saw it, rolled my eyes, muttered “another one?” and kept scrolling 😉 It’s an issue I’d imagine a lot of Hobbit edits have, too.

Well, the good thing is, now that enough time has passed, people are ready for what you cooked up.

Love Actually (minus Sex Tourist & Porn)
Time

I’m not really a big romantic comedy guy, but I’m an ESL teacher so whenever I have a class that has more girls than boys, a romantic comedy is often chosen for our reader/movie. We’ve done Four Weddings & A Funeral, Notting Hill, The Notebook, Me Before You, La La Land and more. It has given me a greater appreciation for the genre and how difficult it can be to get right.

By far, the most popular of the ones I’ve done is Love Actually, which also doubles as a fun Xmas movie. None of the various plotlines would be strong enough to sustain a whole movie, but together, they all make for a pretty classic rom-com/holiday film.

The problem is a subplot involving an ugly Brit who wants to travel to America to have sex with Yanks who love his accent and another subplot intertwined with it about an extremely wholesome romance between two porn body doubles. The actors are very charming, but there’s nothing to it beyond the ‘joke’ that they are simulating sex acts on camera. However, the sex tourist story is just lame and unfunny on every level.

Quite understandably, these two plotlines were cut from the Penguin Reader adaptation of the movie, but it has required me to stop and start the film to cut around the porn scenes whenever we’re doing it.

Well, I got tired of doing that so I downloaded Davinci Resolve and snipped those scenes out myself. The characters still show up at the airport at the end though because my audio editing skills are not nearly good enough yet. Plus, their presence still works as another example of Hugh Grants’ opening monologue about how Heathrow Airport is full of disparate people showing love for each other.

If anyone would like a link, please let me know in a PM. It’s available with English subtitles.

Be aware that this is NOT a PG-13 cut of the film. There’s still plenty of swearing, F-bombs, and a few naughty bits that my students don’t care about, but your hyper-conservative grandma might still take issue with.

Galaxy of Adventures: The Original Trilogy (by Wakeupkeo, Irishpunk, Hal9000 & Bailey)
Time

For anyone that isn’t aware, this was a project created for my ESL students to give them a more exciting learning experience using Star Wars. It includes three short animated films based upon Episodes IV, V, and VI (with English subtitles), as well as fully-illustrated books for early readers.

We thought we were done once Hal9000 kindly offered to put together the RotJ edit, but, due to the limited footage available from the YouTube shorts, Hal wasn’t completely satisfied with it.

Luckily, Bailey asked if he could try to build upon Hal’s excellent work and filled in the missing pieces with the TIE Fighter anime and some clever editing tricks.

Special thanks to Wakeupkeo for the A New Hope edit and providing us with our new RotJ text crawl, Irishpunk for letting us tinker with his ESB edit. and Jenn from Reddit for first suggesting that anime as a substitute.

If you’ve already got the old link to the Galaxy of Adventures edits, the latest updates are all in the same place, along with a few other goodies. Feel free to share them with as many kids (or kids at heart) as you’d like. If you don’t have the links yet, just PM me here.

I’ve been genuinely overwhelmed by the incredible response thus far and the many stories you’ve shared with me of the great reactions these have gotten from all the sons, daughters, nieces, and nephews out there. Thanks.

Obi-Wan and Anakin duel (2022) scene with English subtitles
Time

If anyone wants the Obi-Wan vs Anakin duel from the Kenobi Disney+ show, I’ve snipped it from Spence’s most recent edit of AotC and added Eng subs to it for my classes. It has all the adjustments and tweaks made to the deepfakes and lighting. It’s an interesting scene in isolation, but I don’t think it meshes very well with AotC, nor did it add much to the Kenobi show aside from padding out the running time.

I’m not sure what the rules are exactly about sharing short clips on this site. If I can put the link here in this thread, I will, or you can just contact me through PM and I’ll give you the link.

Best OT fan edits that place an emphasis on continuity with the prequel canon?
Time

Hal 9000 said:

But yeah, I don’t want a Hayden ghost in ROTJ because it just doesn’t work to have a different actor in the same movie play the character, and because I feel it sends a message that Anakin merely regressed. Plus the footage used is dogshit.

I used to be in the same boat as you, but then I was beaten down by the endless barrage of kids asking me “Who’s that?” when Sebastian Shaw shows up next to Yoda and Obi-Wan at the end, even though they’d JUST seen the same actor playing Anakin only a few minutes earlier.

Granted, I show them the prequels and selected episodes of Clone Wars in between Empire and Jedi. Perhaps it’d be less of an issue if the prequels hadn’t cemented in their heads what Anakin Skywalker looks like. I think the aged up versions of Anakin fans helps fix the understandable regression issue.

Help wanted: Galaxy of Adventures Return of the Jedi
Time

Thanks to Hal9000, this project is now complete. Please contact me if anyone would like a link to all three Galaxy of Adventures edits of A New Hope (by Wakeupkeo), Empire Strikes Back (by irishpunk) and Return of the Jedi (by Hal9000). All of them include English subtitles along with PDFs of their readers that were created for ESL students or for children learning to read.

Looking for a Return of the Jedi edit (with English subs) that mostly just fixes Han
Time

Hi everyone. I’m looking for a Return of the Jedi edit to show one of my ESL classes. While I agree with the general consensus that RotJ is the weakest of the original trilogy, I don’t really to have any major problems with it or its Special Edition tweaks. I think the CGI Sarlacc looks fine, I don’t mind the Emoks or their antics as they always play great with the intended target audience of kids, and I think having young Anakin makes perfect sense. My main issue is Han and that he really doesn’t serve much purpose in the movie outside of being rescued in the first act and all that’s left is the lame jealousy thing with Leia.

So, what I’m looking for is an edit that keeps the film mostly intact but snips out those two bits and maybe Han accidentally hitting Boba Fett’s jetpack–although that’s not a deal breaker for me. I’m also not a huge fan of the shoddy CGI band sequence at Jabba’s palace.

Has anyone made a RotJ edit that fits this criteria. I’ve been through dozens of entries of the FanEdit database, but the ones I’ve seen have been a bit too radical in their cutting for what I’m looking for. If anyone could point me in the right direction, I’d appreciate it. Thanks.
