Does Maul Shadow Lord even need an edit? <em>spoilers</em>
Time

I do think that it could be converted from a 10 episode show of ~20 minutes per episode to a 5 episode show with ~40 minutes per episode.

I also noticed toward the beginning that there were WAY too many scenes where people were telling Lawson “so are you going to call the Empire now?” and then he explained like 3-4 times why he wasn’t going to. So there’s definitely a few little scenes that can be trimmed here and there.

Yeah, given Lawson’s eventual fate, his scenes could be a pretty good place to trim, although I suspect his son’s relationship with him will end up being pretty important to Devon’s inevitable romance with the kid.

Although who knows. That entire plot line might end up going nowhere interesting

My opinion is somewhat different (sorry, Bored at 3AM) - and think this show would indeed benefit from an edit… whether something akin to be shortened to a ‘Tales Of The Jedi/Empire/Underworld’ 3 x 15/20 minute style edit - or a simple more straight forward 45-60 minute edit.

For me… I found the characters rather shallow, underdeveloped, and a little cliché. The animation looked great - although the direction was a little lacking in the fight scenes. As well as the story being somewhat predictable and sluggish - I struggled to stay invested with the show watching all 10 episodes of ~22 minutes (including recaps and credits) - which offered little new, fresh, or unexpected.

Not too much different to what we’ve seen many times before in The Clone Wars, Rebels, Resistance, The Bad Batch, ToTJ, ToTE, ToTU, etc. Although for fans of those shows - I’m guessing this would no doubt be a welcome continuation of those similar content.

I’m glad others enjoyed this show far more than I did. 👍

Although I do hope for the option of a much shortened / tightened edit.

Well, given that it’s a mathematical certainty that we’ll be swimming in various Maul edits over the next few years, I think you’ll get your chance to see a shorter version that might work better for you. 😉

This has got to be one of the tightest, strongest seasons of Star Wars I’ve ever seen. I can’t really think of anything that could be cut. Everything feels like it’s necessary to the overall story to me. I thought the first two episodes were the weakest, but I don’t know what could be done to improve them.

Anyone have any ideas?

007 Quantum of Solace - A Casino Royale Epilogue (20min)
Time

Casino Royale is easily in the running for the best 007 film, but its sequel, Quantum of Solace, was kneecapped by the Writer’s Strike and the baffling decision to edit the action sequences as if the Jason Bourne films snorted waaay too much cocaine. However, it does give Bond some nice resolution with Vesper’s betrayal and lays some solid groundwork with Mr White and the mysterious organization he works for that pays off in Spectre and No Time to Die (both of which are now much better thanks to the stellar fan editing work of StraightCutsNoChaser)

So, I’ve trimmed down Quantum of Solace to its prologue and epilogue, cutting out Roman Polanski and the whole underwhelming water scheme entirely. Now, we get the sequence in Italy, Mr. White’s interrogation and escape, then Bond tracking down Vesper’s “dead” boyfriend. All in under 20 minutes. Optional English subtitles have been provided, along with an adaptation of the original Ian Fleming novel that combines it with elements from the film.

If you already have the link to my edits, great, but if you’d like one, please start a PRIVATE CHAT with me and I’ll give it to you. Thanks!

Hi guys, I’m new to the forum. I’d like to see Rebels recut because I’d like to see it the right way by eliminating a lot of unnecessary scenes. As a child, I’d like to know what I should do to see it or download it. There’s no link. I hope someone can answer me. Thanks.

I would love to see an edit with Dolly with 1970s braces like Mikey from The Movie The Goonies. I totally remember her wearing them in MoonRaker.

Do you not like Licence to kill? I realized you were going off Eon though. Licence to kill, originally Licence Revoked was later renamed. It was written along with a follow up, Licence Reinstated,Goldeneye, and Tomorrow Never Dies as well.

License to Kill is a fun '80 action film that incorporates elements from the novel Live and Let Die and The Hildebrand Rarity, so I do show clips of it when I have a class that’s reading the Live and Let Die adaptation. But, as a stand alone story, it doesn’t really fit within my new chronology because it’s essentially a remake of that novel.

I watched the first two movies over the weekend and this is most certainly going to be my go-to versions from now on.

Out of curiosity: I guess you, as me, saw the original show. And hopefully I will be es excited as you when I finally sees this version.

But how you (and others in this thread, please share your thought also) think this edit will be for a first time viewer?

I’ve been planning to introduce my girlfriend to Star Wars in the (hopefully near) future. Will it be better to show her this then the TV show, or should we see the full show first and use these edits for rewatches?

I’ll be using it for my ESL students in movie form, because I can cut it up however I’d like in 10 to 20 minute chunks with the readers I’ve made for it. So, yeah, that would presumably be their first exposure to it.

Solo: A Star Wars Story (Alternate Cut)

An amazing edit! In many cases, this cut (at least to me) is better than the film as released. I thoroughly enjoyed the pacing, the dialogue edits, and the new opening scene.
Removing Maul is a highlight change to me as it fundamentally improves Qi’ra’s role in the film.
The removal of the Corellia scenes also improved the overall pace.

100% agreed. I remember the actress was complaining that Lord and Miller weren’t giving her any direction beyond ‘Femme Fatale’ and ‘be mysterious’, but Broom Kid’s edit kinda proves them right. Kira is much more effective the less we know about her.

Flash Gordon - The Greatest Adventure of All!
Time

In 1979, Samuel Peeples wrote a TV movie for NBC that was very faithful to Alex Raymond’s original comic strip, but was deemed too expensive for live-action. So, the script was done as an animated movie instead. The network was so impressed by the results that the film was then cut up, re-edited, and censored into a Saturday morning cartoon for kids. As a result, no HD version of the original film exists.

There’s a lot to love in this film, likely because of how old fashioned and cheesy it is. My students have inexplicably turned out to be big fans of Flash Gordon’s goofy charms so I wanted to spruce it up a bit by trimming the fat, ramping up the pace, and re-cutting it into an old movie serial of six episode that are each around 10ish minutes long.

There are optional English subtitles included as seperate SRT files if you want them. I’ve also provided an ESL reader that combines elements of various versions of Flash Gordon. Everything is in the same folder as all my other edits. If you don’t already have a copy, please start a chat with me. As always, any suggestions are welcome.

Revenge of the Sith [Faster Anakin! Kill! Kill!]
Time

As with nearly all my stuff, this edit of Episode III was made for my ESL students. It is primarily aimed at younger viewers whose attention spans have been obliterated by being exposed almost exclusively to hyper-fast ‘content’ that can’t slow down for a second without throwing something exciting or funny at the audience to make sure they’re paying attention. You and I can hate it all I want, but that is the reality of too many kids with parents letting phones and tablets become subtitutes for genuine human interaction.

But I digress…

So, I show my elementary school ESL students a selection of Clone Wars episodes starting with Broom Kid’s excellent Clone Wars edit, Utinni’s handy ‘pilot episode’ of the movie and continue from there with the primary focus being on Ahsoka and Maul’s journey, culminating with the final four episodes of The Clone Wars (using Bailey’s awesome Shattered Prophecy edit).

https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Star-Wars-Shattered-Prophecy/id/127287/page/1#1652197

Those final four Clone Wars episodes are shown alongside a cut of Revenge of the Sith I made from SiliconMaster’s Rebalanced edit mixed with 21C PeasantFan’s live-action Ahsoka cameo at Padme’s funeral.

https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Revenge-of-the-Sith-Rebalanced-Version-1-5-1-Released-Now-with-Subtitles-and-More/id/63587

However, the same thing ends up happening every time I’ve shown this movie to kids…

After the first action sequence, there’s about half an hour of dull talky scenes that Lucas felt obligated to do to set up Anakin’s fall to the Dark Side. And, every damned time, the kids check out of the movie one by one. It’s just painful.

So, I tried cutting that 30 minutes down to about 15 and I think I managed it. Since the Clone Wars show had already done a pretty good job of showing Anakin’s slow disillusionment and frustration with the Jedi Council, the kids already got everything they need to understand why Anakin goes bad. His nightmare about Padme’s pregnancy is just the last straw.

Now, my first attempt at it worked in concept, but my audio transitions were pretty terrible. Thankfully, Bailey jumped in to save the day once again and fixed it up for me.

The new running time is 1hr50min. It also includes two ESL reader adaptations of both the Seige of Mandalore and Revenge of the Sith. It’s got hardcoded English subtitles (unfortunately, I haven’t figured out Spence’s subtitle remapper…yet). However, I’ve also included a subtitle free version of the relevant 15 minute chunk of the film for anyone interested in using it for their own edit.

If you want to see it, please send me a private message, but anyone who’s already got the link fot my edits will find it there. Thanks!

Anyone want to help me touch up Flash Gordon The Greatest Adventure of All?
Time

Produced in 1979 by Filmation with an very faithful script by Samuel Peeples, this TV movie was later cut up, censored, and cannibalized as episodes for a TV series.

Unfortunately, there are simply no good copies of the original film available anywhere that I’m aware of. Most versions I’ve found are bootlegs of the Japanese laserdisc with hardcoded Japanese subtitles. I managed to find one with a Spanish srt file, so I’ve retranslated back into English, which I’ll now begin the slow process of rewriting.

What I most need help with is the picture and sound quality. I simply don’t have the technical skill or know-how to do this thing justice.

If anyone would be interested in helping with this, please let me know. Thanks.

Death Proof - Cut to the Chase
Time

There’s a lot of fun to be had in Quentin Tarantino’s 2007 entry to the Grindhouse double feature, but it’s a pretty flabby, self-indulgent flick that only became flabbier and more self-indulgent in his full length cut, which stretched the 96 minute runtime to 113 minutes. For my tastes, this is far too long for a story this slight, so I’ve slimmed it down to a leaner, meaner 64 minutes (the climactic The End hits at 57 minutes and then the credits roll). If you’ve seen Dawnrazor’s similarly-minded edit, mine takes a somewhat different approach towards how much time is spent with the girls. All the cuts are to the first half, but, once the girls arrive to check out the Dodge Challenger, I just let the movie roll, because it is nothing but fun for me from there on out.

If you already have the link to my edits, the folder is in there with my Pulp Fiction edit. If you don’t have the link yet, please send me a PRIVATE MESSAGE. This is for my ESL students so two versions are available. One with hardcoded subtitles and one without. An ESL reader of the story is also provided for anyone interested. As always, suggestions are welcome.

DC Superhero Bonanza
Time

These are the newst additions to the collection of superhero edits for my ESL students. As a result, they each have hardcoded English subtitles.

BATMAN ‘66 is a minor edit of the movie released in between the first and second seasons of the show. Aside from a few trims for pacing, the big difference is the addition of the traditional opening that the film lacks. The new running time is 1 hour 40 minutes.

WONDER WOMAN ‘75 is a heavily trimmed edit of the pilot movie for the Lynda Carter show. The intent here is to keep the focus mostly on Diana herself and less on the uninteresting ‘comedic’ shenanigans of the Nazis. New running time is about 49 minutes.

BATMAN [Comic Cut] is a more streamlined edit of ParanoidAndroid’s HD remake of Dwight Fry’s Descent into Mystery, which eliminated the uninteresting Vicki Vale romance as well as any instances of Batman killing and Joker being the Wayne’s murderer. Inspired by Silent Pete’s even brisker version of Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman film, my edit trims out most of the scenes with the mayor. New running time is 1 hour 26 minutes.

BATMAN RETURNS [Comic Cut] similarly cuts the two instances of Batman murdering guys (at least on-screen, I wouldn’t dream of cutting Keaton’s smile at putting the bomb in that guy’s pants). I also scale back a bit of Devito’s Penguin. I think less is more with him. I also used ForceGhostRecon’s fix for Keaton’s missing eye make-up right before he unmasks. New running time is 1 hour 55 minutes.

WONDER WOMAN ‘84 is slight re-edit of Wakeupkeo’s absolutely revelatory Wonder Woman: The Excellent Edit, which fixes most of the film’s problems and replaces the soundtrack with 80s hard rock classics. All I’ve done here is swap out the Middle East action sequence with the theatrical version because I prefer it. New running time is 1 hour 51 minutes.

As a bonus, I’ve included a short film of WW84’s opening 10 minutes called DIANA & THE TRIALS. Wakeupkeo wisely cut it from his edit, but I think it’s a fun action sequence that works well on its own.

None of these edits would be possible without the hard work of the people whose material I’m building on. I encourage anyone who doesn’t like my hardcoded subtitles to seek out their original versions. They’re all worth your time.

If you already have the link to my edits, use that. Otherwise, please send me a PRIVATE MESSAGE for the link. As always, suggestions are welcome.
