Star Wars Episode I - The Phantom Menace: Redemption ** unfinished project **

Well I certainly went overboard there (it also wasn't very accurate), I can't remember what the tint of the that scene is in the movie, but that is of course something you'd want retained. But on the other hand why are you colour correcting at all then? I'd say the "pink" is part of the expresssion of the film as much as the blue tint is of the scene.

the new one reminds me of a video game.

I think that's because the diffuse reflections from the light are too bright. Bright diffuse + glossy reflective doesn't mesh- they are mutually exclusive. And in video games materials arent exactly simulated. So such contradictions may occur, perhaps often.

As for the colour of TIE fighters, I must say it is painfully obvious that the blue colour is the bluescreen leaking, in the GOUT you can clearly see the colour flickering all over the place with plain grey underneath.

There are blue and white TIEs: http://www.theforce.net/swtc/exhibit/tie.html

All I see is grey with differing lighting situations and poor colour balance.

Or perhaps you wish to imply that there are pink TIE's as well? :P

As for the colour of TIE fighters, I must say it is painfully obvious that the blue colour is the bluescreen leaking, in the GOUT you can clearly see the colour flickering all over the place with plain grey underneath. But that's not to say a blue colour is necessarily bad. I think the slightly blue tint of light in nearly all space shots is heavily part of the expression of the film. And so colour corrections like the one vaderious posted doesn't sit too well with me. You are removing what appears to be a conscious effort to tint the shot.

What's more once the fighters enter the station they move their main ships closer to the moon and away from the station making a scorched moon move even more likely to succeed.

The Imperials on the other hand are charged with trying to stop the ships from escaping the system so even then some of the Imperial ships might have survived the destruction of the moon (even so as you say BmB the Emperor didn't give a damn about friendly fire so why would one of his minions?).

Try reading next time. I said they do care about friendly fire since moving where the death star might hit a friendly is effective.

The shield generator was completely safe according to plan. They had no reason to ever want to destroy it and put themselves at risk. And by the time the Emperor is long dead everyone on the Death Star seems to be way too busy with something else to worry about suicide bombing any rebels. Who's to say destroying the moon would do any damage to either fleet anyway? For all these people know they would be killing their own legion of troops for no reason. Senseless.

In fact I also seem to recall the rebel strategy for avoiding superlaser fire was to engage the imperial fleet at point blank range. So obviously the imperials do care about friendly fire.

There can be no "prequel person" response to this. You cannot defend a movie without a protagonist, introduction, plot, or sense. As weird as some of the off topic wanderings, you can't ignore that every point he made was right on the money, though maybe could have been put more eloquently.

Except it really isn't "right on the money" at all. The protagonist clearly is Anakin, whom might I add, being 10 at the time of release I identified quite nicely with- he is not an unlikable character, and honestly I think people who dislike him simply hate kids and won't admit they're a bunch of old cranks. But even without him you can quickly make out from the beginning that Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon are the characters we are following and that it is their adventure. And this actually follows the structure of ANH quite closely by introducing us to the world and the other characters through the two characters who ultimately ends up being probably the least important to the narrative.

That's 3x protagonism right there. 4 if you count Padmé.

And I wouldn't call it plotless either. Maybe you slept through the opening crawl, but it's being made clear that there is a trade dispute, and that the trade federation is quite upset with this and want to force something they want with a blockade. We really don't need to know more than this to understand the story. And considering the rest of the Prequels I'm actually surprised we don't get every detail scrutinously painted out. The important bits is that it's all a plot by the sith. And this leads me to one of the real problems with the movie. There's a lot of accusations about Jar Jar Binks and weak story and blah blah blah floating around. These really aren't the problems the film has. The real problems is that it spends an ungodly amount of time on... well, nothing at all really. There's maybe one or two scenes in the whole movie that are actually relevant to anything we should know. The real problem is that fundamentally it's not a story that takes place within the same continuity as the OT. The script may or may not have at one point. But ultimately it turned into something else. Much like the OT's scripts turned into what they are I suppose. I don't understand why people drone on and on about Jar Jar Binks and Hayden Christensen and all that jazz and almost never touch upon these things. RedLetterMedia is no less guilty.

You may argue that it is senseless in a lot of places. But hey, this is STAR WARS. The ultimate in space opera cheese. It never really made any sense. It's a blind collection of stereotyped plot devices thrown together in a big tasty, cheesy pot. ANH itself doesn't make too much sense most of the time. But that's part of the fun.

And ultimately as a movie it's quite enjoyable, between the pod race and the very well put together finale sequence there's a couple of good popcorn hours to be found inthere. Narrative genius? Perhaps not. But certainly narratively accomplished.

Hats off to Pernilla August for that performance.

Eh, I don't see why the Empire would want to destroy their own planet. And I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with the explosion. It looks cool and the Death Star is huge enough that I will believe it. Though, being used to PAL speedup it almost looks a bit too slow when seen in normal speed. And I don't mind the shockwave either really, Star Wars space doesn't seem to adhere to any kind of physics.

Now if anything should be done to that part it's showing whatever happened to the rest of the imperial fleet. One shot it's there the next it's gone and everything is fine and dandy for no reason.

Also, who's Jerjerrod?! I don't recall any such character from the movie.

"Alert my Star Destroyer to prepare for my arrival." What was the point?

Actually, if the whole "bring my shuttle" delivery thing was kept, along with the nice looking matte of him boarding said shuttle, and flying up to the Executor. I think that would actually improve the pacing and give a nice lead-in to that oh so pretty shot of the Falcon escaping Bespin as the dawn breaks behind them. As long as no time is wasted watching him walk out of the shuttle inside the Death Star Executor cutting back and forth doesn't hurt the movie at all, and in fact I think it helps the somewhat rushed feeling the original has at that point. Or maybe not, I don't know. The matte painting of Bespin "in the dark" would definitely have to improve though then.

My goal is to make him be an annoyance to Obi-Wan and Qui Gon, but entertaining for the audience. I think that's what Lucas' original intention for the character was, it's just that he horribly botched it up in execution.

I don't know. From the outset Qui-Gon calls Jar Jar an idiot, tells him to go away and ends up spending most of his interaction with the character saying only "Don't touch anything" "Don't do that again" etc. And Obi-Wan just says "wtf is this?!".
