ben_danger, I hate to disagree with you, but I don't think having Dooku on the council in TPM would work, because he and Obi-Wan can't meet before AOTC ("It's a shame our paths have never crossed before")....

 • In his conversation with Obi-Wan, remove the line "...and together we can destroy the Sith!" and add in the line "The Republic can not be fixed. It is time to start over", taken from his deleted scene with Padme.
 • Take out all references to him being Yoda's apprentice. I don't think that fits, considering Yoda's comments on Jedi training in ESB.

This way, I think we can give his character a little more depth

What do you guys think?

That line could be deleted or altered (he is certainly a Jedi of high enough rank to be on the Council and that might put him in a better position to fiddle with the archive records):

Dooku's seat

but if he is Qui-Gon's former Master the barriers that held back Qui-Gon from taking (or even wanting) that position may apply to him also.

I agree with both of your other changes but I would also amend Obi-Wan's line "Qui-Gon Jinn would never join you" to a shorter and sweeter "Qui-Gon Jinn? Never..." (as if the idea was more preposterous than insulting).

I know Lucas argues that Star Wars is a like a poem with repeated themes but he does tend to just use that as an excuse to cut and paste lines from the other films (and Ewan doesn't deliver the line well anyway).

It might be possible to fiddle around with the dialogue from this or the other prequels to change the line (ironically by cutting and pasting words from other films).

The Yoda/Dooku confrontation could do with tinkering (some have proposed removing the sabre clash altogether because though it's fun it kind of weakens Yoda to see him hopping around like that) others have suggested removing the force lightning as they see this as something which should be kept for Palpatine alone.

Whatever the changes snipping that revelation out should be a doddle.

Man, that guy on the vid is an annoying twat. Can't even say Lando's name right. Number 1 fan my arse....Sad old man!!

;)

He comes across as actually being a rather nice guy (perhaps a little too enthusiastic), some of his video's are side splittingly funny and he has actively campaigned (with the emphasis on camp) for safer and better made toys (and gee does he have a collection...he basically has an aircraft hanger of almost every toy and video game ever made...makes you wonder how he spends his evenings).

And he does have a point here.

I think it's subtle, adds to his character when it comes to his feelings towards the Jedi, Qui-Gon and the Republic as he explains to Obi-Wan in Attack of the Clones, and it doesn't contradict anything.

Welcome!

Not a bad idea but Maybe a bit confusing placing it right after the "master or apprentice?" line. The audience would know that he's not Sidious unmasked (the beard!) but it would lead to think that there's a link. (and could be really confusing if Sidious face is completely hidden through all the movie.) But after all, there is the pan on Palapatine face... that should be enough hint to the audience to not make confusion.

Also adding a new character at the very end of the movie is a bit odd. But why not, and I agree it would add more depth to the character. It would be a nice scene on its own; it's just the moment it is integrate that bugs me a little.

Sorry for my english.

French guy here.

JasonN (and a few other editors like MagnoliaFan) remove Sideous' face:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgM8GbfjS3A&feature=related

I think the Dooku insert is great for two reasons, one it could work as possible alternative Master and set up Darth Tyrannus for the second and third parts but also it could be seen as the beginning of Dooku's fall with the loss of his former apprentice due to the inaction of the Jedi.

So it is actually a rather radical change.

It might be possible to create a line (from sampling elsewhere) where Dooku says something along the lines of "Goodbye my old friend".

I think the Episode One bit in the title removes or plays upto the any confusion the audience might have (it's safe to assume that they will know that other episodes exist).

Jay and Silent Bob dare to disagree with you on that one.

It's a one off scratchbuild from a guy in Spain. People have emailed him about it and he won't give out the secret.

Anything that can be made once can be made twice (though it may be too late for this project).

Maybe if you did e-mail him and took a nice little Spanish (or Brazilian) holiday you could end up with some footage that might be useful for ESB:R and ROTJ:R.

Do we have any originaltrilogy.com agents in the field who could shoot the material for you?

I'm surprised (what with the success of similar robotic toys on the market) that Lucas hasn't got a company like Wowwee to make a model like this one already.

JasonN's PT FanEdits (Attack of the Federation, Twilight of the Republic, & The Black Knight Rises) (Released) ** Revised V3 Cuts In The Works

There is still a lot of unused and deleted material that as yet has never seen the light of day.

I think the scene is a good one it could be trimmed a bit but Padme needs more screen time in ROTS she is far too passive a character in the theatrical cut and it is difficult to feel the tragedy of her death when she is such an absent presence.

PLEASE GOD SOMEONE REMOVE THE CGI MAX REEBO BAND AND REPLACE IT WITH THE PUPPETS FROM THE OUT. that makes me cringe every time i see it. and leave out jar jar and hayden christiansen I WILL BE TRULLY HAPPY. I could live with hayden in it but jar has to go and please put the old celebration song the new one is just ODD. Vaders saber is a little to pink and solid for me so anyone can make it better looking. overall adywan and dart editious can do NO WRONG.

I'm OK with the addition of the backing singers, the big drums the horn players etc but I agree that the CGI creatures need to go (though I like the floating microphone).

Neither Sy Snootles appeals to me the puppet looked like a puppet at the CGI version looked like a cartoon.

The design is a sound one though so maybe the puppet can be argmented with more subtle CGI work.

I'm not really keen on either Lapti Nek or Jedi Rocks, I'm in the planning stages of building a new computer and I shall attempt to craft something new which matches a mixture of footage from the OUT and SE versions but if it doesn't work I might just replace it with something instumental and see how that looks.

I think the music should be as sleazy and debaunched as the scene it's playing over, both Jedi Rocks and Lapti Nek sound too poppy and not enough like stripper/poll dancing music fused with a bit of Eastern pastiche belly dancing.

The sabres will no doubt be fixed by Adywan in ROTJ:R but they do present even more of a challenge in this film than in any of the others because they are so thickly drawn.

Hayden does have to go, I have no real problem with the Gungan but I would remove his voice (which is clearly Jar-Jar's) I hope the Gungans get a total overhaul in the PT:R so I wouldn't like ROTJ:R to end with Jar-Jar's voice.

I'm also not convinced that either piece of celebration music works and suggestions like those made a bit earlier should be investigated.

A couple more things that clearly needs attention are the poor quality explosions in the Endor space battle which are merely overlayed blobs instead of showing any actual structural damage to the ships and the infamous Force Kick during the barge battle :

force Kick

I just noticed something about the interior of the SD shot. The two officers standing that much apart... dunno if that really works. Somehow the way they stand just feels like they should stand closer together. you know people restrain their body movements more, the closer they get to others. I am aware that in the military this is standard protocol, but something about those two officers just doesn't feel right yet. What was your reason for putting them further apart?

It was mainly due to framing. having the officers in their original positions didn't look right with the new background windows & the planet. i couldn't move the officer that comes from the right hand side of the frame so that only left Captain Lennox. There was also the issue of the walkway around the windows. if i moved the windows to the left so i could keep Lennox in his original position then it would look like the officer had walked over the pit. at the end of the day i was more concerned about eyeline than body stance.

I've been watching some of your updates on youtube and I'm pretty impressed as usual. And I got to see the entire Star Wars Revisited on youtube. It was interesting seeing my name in the credits, even though I don't remember giving any suggestions for that edit.

If you do the same thing with Empire, do you want our real names?

Oh god you reminded me of the huge task i have of collecting all the names from this thread and now its reached over 6000 posts thats going to be a daunting task that i am not looking forward to. If anyone wants their real names included then you'll need to email me with your real name along with your forum name so i can keep a track on things.

I wonder if the slightly 'lop-sided' ears of the 'puppet' version will be part of Ady's version or not?

I always liked them, myself. :)

I'm still debating about the ears but they'll probably end up included.

I noticed something interesting when i was watching SP FX: The making of the Empire Strikes Back today. They have a brief shot of the puppet and its slightly different than the one used in the movie. The film version has more hair added to its cheeks and this covers up the horns. so it was nice to see the puppet with its original horns.

For the head and claws I'd go for theatrical wig and beard hair suppliers (if I could go back in time to the early nineties I'd know just the place to get it too...darn).

The original puppet looks more like a shaggy misshaped human than a polar bear and the face is more hairy than furry, you might be able to massacre several out of season Santa wigs and beards, (a bit of spirit gum, morticians wax and razor blades can do wonders).

For the body, most of these suppliers are outside the UK but they might help.

http://www.andrewdavidson.com/links/faux-fur/

if it's horns you are after this might help too.

http://speyside-horn.co.uk/rawmaterial.html

They sell products made from horn but I'm sure if you contacted them they could get you some untouched samples.

Do you mean USC Roman or Berkeley Roman?

If you mean just plain University Roman (a very nasty letroset advertising typeface from 1972 designed by Bruce Rogers, the better half once knew him) I'd say you are the type of person who likes really tacky romantic novels or low price chocolate selection boxes (Terry's All Gold or Milk Tray).

Bingowings: Yes, I've got those tapes from the Executor set somewhere too. The simple lightsaber designs were certainly nicer than the new 'paintings' on the individual versions (I guess it was around this time that LFL decided they needed to reinvent the wheel for every goddamn release!)

No idea if that set is worth anything, though as an aside the documentaries - MOSW, SPFX, CC and FSTJ - look far better on those PAL tapes than anywhere else I've seen them...

Ziz: Unfortunately the other UK rental tapes were a lot less distinctive:

Photobucket

Photobucket

I don't even have these tapes any more, though I doubt they're rare if anyone was inclined to rewShork them...

Shit, this brings back some merories. I have all these vhs tapes. I paid (well I say I paid, my mother really) £56 for ESB bak in 84 when it was first released. Man I wathched that tape to death. Still have them, and all the other vhs released tapes too. I think I own the trilogy including dvd's about 8 times. What a mug!!! ha

And this is the Executor box set covers I modified for DVD

I love those, what sabres would you put on a prequel set?

I like the scene, everything looks very good. Very natural. However, I don't like the "lightning" effect on the ion cannon. It makes it pretty obvious what software you used and distracts from the scene.

Only if you know what software was being used (most people wouldn't), I'm sure the guys who work in the industry are incredible jades when it comes to viewing special effects shots but the majority of the paying audiences wouldn't give a monkey's as long as it looked good at helped propel the story.

Info: Filmmaker Looking For Star Wars Faneditors - The People Vs. George Lucas
Time
JasonN said:God, have people even bothered to LOOK at the content of this documentary first before forming an opinon on it? This is not a 100% "Bashing Lucas" film - it gives both sides of the George Lucas issue an equal share of film to discuss and give voice to their praises or condemnations of Lucas and his work, his decisions, and the path that he's decided on for the SW legacy.

Nobody on here has suggested that the documentary is Lucas bashing, I think it is reasonable for people not to want to be seen as such though, especially if it impacts on the creative work people are doing here (look what happened to Fanedit.org which went out of it's way to discourage piracy and encourage the purchase of the original source materials but still had to remove all of it's links).

So far Lucasfilm has encouraged fan films and not actively pursued fan editors (just people selling edits).

If this documentary puts what goes on here and on related sites under a Lucasentric spot light that attitude might change.
