The way I would do it is change the reference to getting a new apprentice and merge it with the reference to Lord Vader taking care of the Seperatists from later in the film (Palpatine already knows he is going to call Anakin Vader when he turns and he knows he will succeed).

I'd then hide Vader behind a cowl or mask on the attacks on the Temple and on Mustafar (making a virtue of the previously silly Sith eyes, Vader now has them all the time until Luke saves him, to create the impression this is a new character and Anakin died trying to save Mace Windu).

Removing references to Anakin (in fact most of the Volcanic duel banter) would complete the trick.

The only problems are the lightsabre and the "former pupil of mine".

It might be possible to manipulate events and the picture so Padme is given Anakin's blue sabre as proof of his death and Vader uses a red blade doing his various dirty deeds.

It wouldn't be too much to expect Obi-Wan to have a new Padawan after Anakin is knighted but getting him into a scene would be hard work.

The point of the 30's serial cut though was to keep the movie episodes as seperated episodes.

A television miniseries cut could take all six films and mix them into one resource that can be edited into episodes that don't necessarily follow the sequence of events as shown in the films.

TPM might, for example sake form two episodes and bits of ROTS might be held back to the later episodes to maintain the surprise that television episodes depicting the events of ESB might cover.

The saga as a whole might be spread over 11 or 12 episodes (like Season One of Buffy or NuGalactica).

I had spotted those also and I don't recognise any of the adverts or how the ads where cut into the movie with the effect.

Does a full VHS rip of the first tv showing of ANH in 1982 with adverts exsist anywhere?

I certainly remember the adverts but in the TVS region they didn't use the starburst effect, the title card is the same.

Which region were you in when it was broadcast?

So, it turns out that I'm not as done with my EP1 edit as I thought.

In watching the edit last night, I noticed a scene which somehow just seemed "off", but I couldn't figure out why that was - it was the scene after the Pod Race where Qui-Gon brings the parts back to the ship, he says he's going back for Anakin, and Obi-Wan makes the comment of "picking up another pathetic lifeform". It wasn't until I closely examined the scene that I figured out what was wrong: Lucas and his editors flipped the footage horizontally so that the left side becomes the right side (or the right side becomes the left side) and LEFT IT IN THE FINAL FILM!

You can see this in the affected scenes in:
- the sun/lighting is facing the wrong direction
- Obi-Wan's "apprentice braid" is on the left side when it should be on the right side
- Qui-Gon's pack is on the right side when it should be on the left
- the pilot/attendent enters from the left side of the screen when he should have entered from the right side

So I've now "re-flipped" the shots back to the correct version and you can now see how the scene was intended to be in my finished fanedit. :)

To give a visual example of what I'm talking about, here's a preview:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WORC8cpvr3o

Scene 1 is the original version as seen in the theatrical and DVD version of SW: Episode 1.
Scene 2 is the re-flipped, corrected version that appears in my fanedit.

You can see why it was flipped though because Obi-Wan appears to be approaching Qui-Gon from one side but talks to him from another which is even more visually jarring (the Obi-Wan head shots are obviously from a different take and didn't match up well).

It might actually look better if you trimmed Obi-Wan looking up at Qui-Gon so you don't see his position relative to his master.

The other option is to just move the braid around but the lighting would still be out.

Hmm... as for "previously on", don't the radio dramas include a few audio clips like that?  It could be synched up with the corresponding movie footage.  Also: if you're interested in seeing a cut-down version like that, the 30's serial film edition by TMBTM cuts each movie to roughly 50 minutes.  That could be used as a reference to how the movies would flow at such a speed.

The idea I had was to forget the film duration and cut all the material into 40ish minute chunks, scenes deleted from the films could be put back too and like nuGalactica some of the material could be held back to reappear as flashbacks. The radio announcements are great for radio but don't really work in a television context (shame we can't get some of the real actors to say "previously on Star Wars" but as this is meant to be a fun edit maybe we could have fun recording imitations).

We would need a Star Wars theme that comes in at the 50sec to 1min mark and have a definite begin and end (there's work there for you music editors out there).

With all this talk of making fan trailers and the like I thought it might be a fun project to edit the six films as if they were an American television miniseries (about 40mins per episode excluding adverts but including the new titles).

Yep, that means a television title sequence, previously on and next time tails, advert pauses and cards and for added fun Star Wars themed ad breaks (Kenner Toys, the foods etc).

This project could be broken up into small doable chunks that anyone could handle.

All suggestions welcome, is this a modern series like NuGalactica or a seventies show like OldGalactica but with much better special effects?

It would need it’s own ad campaigns too and when (hopefully) the show is complete people can design DVD boxes (or VHS and Betamax boxes if it’s a period piece).

What should the screen format be?

We could even have different continuity announcers for different countries and regions.

It’s a bonkers idea but it might be fun.

Lets see Star Wars the way it should never be seen on a small screen with adverts.

I taped it off ITV when it was first shown (onto Betamax no less) but that tape is lost too. It would have been useless to you anyway as I edited out all the adverts (I still expect the adver card to pop up at the right spot because I watch the thing literally hundreds of times).

Made a nice cover for it too out of possibly priceless now magazine articles.

I haven't grown up yet have I?

And welcome to the boards too, I hope you have fun here.

I quite like the idea of having the prequel ships looking very different from the OT ones (look at the difference between WWI and WWII) but I don't get why some of the Republic ships look so tatty (it make sense if you are a Rebel or a smuggler but this is meant to be the official government).

I actually like the idea of R2 being blue because he's one of blue group's astrodroids (Naboo seems to be obsessed with aesthetics).

Hey peoples!

I don't mean to take over here but I would love some imput on two of my new vidz.

Without going into great detail I've had issues with the Yoda/Palps fight in ROTS.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WO_f39t8LGM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuZRgNsz4vA

So feel free to check them out and let me know you're thoughts...maybe type them here on this thread...

P.S. Look at both descriptions of the videos...I've gone into some details as to why the changes...

You are always welcome here, sadly your first video has already been taken down (perhaps you should remove all Star Wars references in the title of your youtube posting). I expect your second video will be taken down too once they get wind of it. Don't ask me why but Youtube is going bonkers deleting and blocking (not to mention splodging adverts all over the place).

love the ideas bingowings. i think your more linear storyline would be so much better. what do you think of these ideas? im sure your line of thought isnt too different.

one thing that bugged me about AOTC, is how camino not only supplied the endless swarms of troops under the nose of the republic, but also the starships and weaponry. i mean they could conquer the galaxy with those kinds of resources surely? im sure there is a legit EU explanation, but in the contex of stand alone films it seemed a bit extreme. it also seemed pretty quick how the jedi immediatly adjusted to their forces.

the point i am leading to, is could there somehow be a plot where a republic relief force, maybe with similarities to the star destroyers seen in AOTC show up? it would be good if this was the start of the clone wars, but just without the clones? the republic would have certainly 'crossed a line' like yoda discusses about the beginning of the clone wars at the end of AOTC.

maybe against the wishes of the Council, who opt not to get involved, dooku shows up with a fleet of stardestroyers, manned with non-clones? maybe sifo dias, could be aboard another ship that gets destroyed, so in AOTC, we may believe dooku ordered the clones creation?

it would be super hard to do, but who knows, 4-7 years time OT may be a bit more mobilised (one of us may win the lottery?:P)

The clones I don't have too much of a problem with as the Jedi themselves seem to be shocked to discover them, Sidious has obscured their creation via the Darkside.

I imagine that the initial batch would have been enough to defeat the droids on Geonosis but not enough to fight a pangalactic war.

As the war progressed more clones were commisioned (now legally thanks to Binks) and the Seperatists too would build more droids to fight them, setting up an arms race.

But I agree with you about the equipment.

These could 'borrowed' from the existing armoury of the Republic's small but well equipped standing army (they must have had some sort of armed forces or there would be attacks from the outside and civil wars all the time).

Showing some of this ordnance in the hands of Republican regulars in TPM would be a visual way of showing where this equipment came from without having to explain it on screen in AOTC.

ben_danger said:although it would require alot of work, i think getting rid of duel of the fates and having the lightsaber battle without music would help return it to an OT feeling. although i love alot of the PT scoring, the vocal parts did make the two trilogies sound completely different. another thing about the naboo battle, is that it is the only 4 levelled battle in the whole saga (gungans, space battle, lightsaber battle and padme taking throne room) do you think it should be toned down, or maybe split up? anyone got any ideas for alternative music in the PT? i loved the reborn clip using the ROTJ music in AOTC.

I'm going to play with the idea that instead of there being a single droid control ship the whole blockade is there (the Naboo have more fighters, squadrons added by changing the colours of the fighters to blue, red etc:

Red Group

but they are still greatly outnumbered because they have no capital ships or droid fighters)

Qui-Gon and Obi Wan have to get onto the fleet command ship to stop signal jamming so they can get a distress signal to the Republic to send for help (and they fight Maul there, also moving the droid battles on the ship from the beginning of the film to the end).

That way the sabre battle is more associated with space battle and the Gungan battle is more associated with the throne room.

Anakin doesn't destroy the command ship he just destroys a ship single handed and deliberatly (not by accident).

Once Nute Gunray is captured he orders the ships away (to save his skin) and the Droids power down on his command not because one ship is destroyed (which seemed a stupid way to run a war in the first place).

The PS1 game's sound effects and voices if I recall are of MUCH lower quality than the PC version.  I have both, fun - however tedious - game.

I just downloaded the sound files but they don't have the Maul dialogue I suppose they must be in the cut scenes, are they isolated?

When I've pinched from PC games of that vintage before (Resident Evil for example) the cut scenes were in an accessible folder and I could rip the sound with ease.

As you say the game is tedious so I haven't heard the dialogue yet to find out if it is useful (do you think it might be?).

Yaarel Poof! I'm so glad that stupid name was never mentioned on screen, only George would allow such a thing.

It's lucky that George didn't make him a major character, the idea of little kids lining up to buy Poof action figures and the fallout from that added to the racial caricature accusations would promote more facepalms than the human head could survive.

is there any way to incorporate some of the Bounty hunter games dialog into the prequels in some way?

(BTW: Its really annoying that you can't post on here with an iPhone! )

As I posted elsewhere I'm looking into the possibility of adding the extra Darth Maul dialogue from TPM game into the film footage, I can't see why not if it matches the footage.

Jengo is easier to do because he is behind a helmet (so no lipsyncing problems).

Slightly off topic here.

I can't open the TPM game sound files at the site you linked to Ady.

Does it have the extra Darth Maul (performed by Peter Serafinowicz) dialogue in there?

I have the PSone version of the game and I was going to investigate and possibly sample that for TPM edits but if someone has already done that I'd like to avoid duplication of effort.

I really can't stand the set as it is and seeing the designs in The Art Of Return Of The Jedi just made me want to see something more like them.

I can't find any uploaded images around and taking my scanner out in my current home is like trying to get the Ark Of The Covenant out of Area 51.

The only 'Art of' book I have is ESB, so I don't know if I've seen the designs you're referring to. Could you just take a picture of them with a digicam and post those? (I've done that a bunch of times since my old scanner won't work on my new[er] computer) Or maybe if someone else is reading this, could they do a quick scan for us?
