HAHA!  That's great, Vaderios!  Much more logical.  Building the ladder might've been part of luke's Jedi training.  Like Mr. Miagi making Daniel paint the fence and "wax on, wax off" in the Karate Kid.  LOL!

Not even sure if something like that is possible in After Effects, but I sure hope Adywan at least gives it a try.

If there was some way of reconstructing the lost tube cutting scenes the ladder could be made from the metal left over from his training.

Yoda: "Your ladder, need it you will not"

Luke: "Master Yoda leaping out of harms way is one thing but jumping into a vehicle is just showing off"

Yoda: "No! Not showing off, ladder you do not need, besides many important Jedi Master magazines I have on top shelf and come in handy it would."

Luke: "Oh now I get it, the Force is powerful enough to lift an X-Wing but not powerful enough to lift your porn stash"

Yoda: "Too smart for his own good he is, just like his father"

Ben's ghost just rolls his eyes.

Cos it's shit!!

Why is it shit? The SE version is better than the original version.

C3P0: "Here we go again".

Adywan is attempting to completely redo the wampa scenes and he isn't a fan of the mash up of various wampa models and that's on record and it's his edit.

This debate has already been had many moons ago, you'll just have to trust in what he comes up with and if you prefer the SE Wampa to whatever ends up in ESB:R don't worry it hasn't been wiped from history, you still have your SE discs and someone out there (maybe you) will no doubt do a version with all of Ady's alterations you do like but with the SE Wampa put back in.

A lot of people prefer the less is more approach, some people don't mind the idea of more but didn't like the more they got and some people are very happy with how it turned out in SE.

People are different, welcome to the wonderful world of people.

I like the NuGalactica template.

Previously on...

Basic intro credit (which could be "A Long Time Ago" over a few shots from the whole sage of a mythological bent,"In A Galaxy Far Far Away" followed by a few shots from the whole saga of a science fiction bent).

Opening coda.

Main opening titles (followed by flashing out of context scenes from the coming episode).

Act 1 leading to a mini cliffhanger, ending with a advert break (eg for part one of TPM it could end with the Jedi being trapped in a room filling with gas).

Then three more longer acts also leading to a mini cliff hanger and a break.

Finally act five also ending on a cliff hanger followed by the end titles and a next week trail.

Gerry Anderson used a similar format in all of his shows and Farscape used to follow much the same line too.

^Nope, that's new to me. Pretty funny. :) I kinda doubt he would've known about this guy, though, as he was a 17 or 18-year-old Californian kid when he made up the character. Lord Buckethead does predate the guitarist by a year or two, though.

I'll have to mention him at the Buckethead forum and see if any of our UK friends know him. Is the movie any good?

I wouldn't call it a Z-Movie, I think we would have to invent quite a few letters after z to really describe how awful it is.

if bingowings alternative plot laout was to be used, what would the opening be? something significant? this is afterall the new BEGINNING of star wars. and would this alternative opening relate to a possible alternative closing for ROTJ? it would be good if TPM could relate to ROTJ, like a mirrored version of it, starting all sunny and rosy then getting darker towards the end. maybe the colours could so this. naboo and endor could have a similar palette perhaps.

i was also thinking, could we scrap the gungans completely? what if the army is still in theed, and amidala opts for having the majority of her gathered forces, form a blockade at the main entrance of the palace while a smaller group makes for the viceroy? its not like they are necessary for getting quigon and obiwan to theed in the firstplace anymore, and even if the original plotline were used, they could just land closer to there in the firstplace.

has anyone been watching clone wars? a few months ago we saw 'senate commandos', their captain was this guy (blue one on left)

maybe this could be a concept for a pre-clone republic trooper? i like the open faced helmet.

My idea for the beginning would be from the scroll down to a full Naboo hanging in space the Trade Federation ships surround the planet (does anyone have any more back views of the Trade Federation ships btw?).

Naboo 1

Then we see an edited version of Sidious (fully concealed as in many edits) telling Nute Gunray he can land his troops and the landing ships and fighters descend.

Fighting breaks out in Theed (some of the buildings are destroyed).

Then cut to Coruscant and Amidala's meeting with Palpatine (with the message from Sio Bibble edited in) and a altered Jedi Council meeting where Qui-Gon claims to sense the chosen one and he's discovery is linked to the Naboo crisis.

Then the Senate meeting which removes Valorium, then the Queen opts to go back to Naboo to end the crisis.

The Jedi are sent to protect her but they can not call for war against the Federation until the Blockade is confirmed to be unlawful.

Her ship is attacked on route and she has to land on Tatooine.

I'd keep the Gungans but dub them so that Jar-Jar is now the Gungan ambassador and represents his people just as much as Amidala.

He is a bit out of water but not the buffoon we see in the original cut.

As for balcony varients (and ben_danger I can not see yours for some reason) why not have them on Geonosis (which would give a nice lead into the next film, they could be there to plan their next addition into their insurrection).

Geonosis Balcony

I think Anakin should still turn...but leave out the name "Vader"...possibly.

Sorry but that seems pointless to me, either Episodes I to III are prequels (where we know he's Vader and we are finding out how and why) or they are the first three parts of a six part saga (in which case we shouldn't know Anakin is Vader until ESB).

Knowing he has fallen and burned up but not calling him Vader seems to be the worst of both worlds.

For future generations I think it makes sense to edit the so called prequels so they live up to the Episode bit in the title and keep the surprises until later (not that brighter viewers wouldn't be able to work it out for themselves).

Anakin still falls and becomes Vader in the suit (so his tragedy remains) but we don't know it for sure until Yoda tells Luke and us in the final part.

As for Padme dying and the Death Star being built, I suggested elsewhere that we see a timelapse style building of the Death Star and changing of Clone troopers to Stormtroopers, Republic Destroyers to Imperial Stardestroyers, and Padme's funeral could be worked into that and we could see Leia as a little girl on Alderaan rather than a baby covering the ROTJ memory angle in one swoop too.

I take it you've heard of Lord Buckethead who (I assume) predates Buckethead by some years? He stood for election in the UK up against Maggie Thatcher, got a record in the charts and even starred in his own movie.

UPDATE: I think it would have been the broadcast for Norfolk

Would that have been Yorkshire TV back then?

I found the yorkshire TV premier of Jedi BTW.

It might diminish it a bit but it would add a whack to the emotional impact of ESB and ROTJ for the first time viewer.

Remember (as George should have) years from now there will be generations who will see TPM as Episode One and not a prequel to Episode Four.

The way I would do it is change the reference to getting a new apprentice and merge it with the reference to Lord Vader taking care of the Seperatists from later in the film (Palpatine already knows he is going to call Anakin Vader when he turns and he knows he will succeed).

I'd then hide Vader behind a cowl or mask on the attacks on the Temple and on Mustafar (making a virtue of the previously silly Sith eyes, Vader now has them all the time until Luke saves him, to create the impression this is a new character and Anakin died trying to save Mace Windu).

Removing references to Anakin (in fact most of the Volcanic duel banter) would complete the trick.

The only problems are the lightsabre and the "former pupil of mine".

It might be possible to manipulate events and the picture so Padme is given Anakin's blue sabre as proof of his death and Vader uses a red blade doing his various dirty deeds.

It wouldn't be too much to expect Obi-Wan to have a new Padawan after Anakin is knighted but getting him into a scene would be hard work.

The point of the 30's serial cut though was to keep the movie episodes as seperated episodes.

A television miniseries cut could take all six films and mix them into one resource that can be edited into episodes that don't necessarily follow the sequence of events as shown in the films.

TPM might, for example sake form two episodes and bits of ROTS might be held back to the later episodes to maintain the surprise that television episodes depicting the events of ESB might cover.

The saga as a whole might be spread over 11 or 12 episodes (like Season One of Buffy or NuGalactica).

I had spotted those also and I don't recognise any of the adverts or how the ads where cut into the movie with the effect.

Does a full VHS rip of the first tv showing of ANH in 1982 with adverts exsist anywhere?

I certainly remember the adverts but in the TVS region they didn't use the starburst effect, the title card is the same.

Which region were you in when it was broadcast?

So, it turns out that I'm not as done with my EP1 edit as I thought.

In watching the edit last night, I noticed a scene which somehow just seemed "off", but I couldn't figure out why that was - it was the scene after the Pod Race where Qui-Gon brings the parts back to the ship, he says he's going back for Anakin, and Obi-Wan makes the comment of "picking up another pathetic lifeform". It wasn't until I closely examined the scene that I figured out what was wrong: Lucas and his editors flipped the footage horizontally so that the left side becomes the right side (or the right side becomes the left side) and LEFT IT IN THE FINAL FILM!

You can see this in the affected scenes in:
- the sun/lighting is facing the wrong direction
- Obi-Wan's "apprentice braid" is on the left side when it should be on the right side
- Qui-Gon's pack is on the right side when it should be on the left
- the pilot/attendent enters from the left side of the screen when he should have entered from the right side

So I've now "re-flipped" the shots back to the correct version and you can now see how the scene was intended to be in my finished fanedit. :)

To give a visual example of what I'm talking about, here's a preview:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WORC8cpvr3o

Scene 1 is the original version as seen in the theatrical and DVD version of SW: Episode 1.
Scene 2 is the re-flipped, corrected version that appears in my fanedit.

You can see why it was flipped though because Obi-Wan appears to be approaching Qui-Gon from one side but talks to him from another which is even more visually jarring (the Obi-Wan head shots are obviously from a different take and didn't match up well).

It might actually look better if you trimmed Obi-Wan looking up at Qui-Gon so you don't see his position relative to his master.

The other option is to just move the braid around but the lighting would still be out.

Hmm... as for "previously on", don't the radio dramas include a few audio clips like that?  It could be synched up with the corresponding movie footage.  Also: if you're interested in seeing a cut-down version like that, the 30's serial film edition by TMBTM cuts each movie to roughly 50 minutes.  That could be used as a reference to how the movies would flow at such a speed.

The idea I had was to forget the film duration and cut all the material into 40ish minute chunks, scenes deleted from the films could be put back too and like nuGalactica some of the material could be held back to reappear as flashbacks. The radio announcements are great for radio but don't really work in a television context (shame we can't get some of the real actors to say "previously on Star Wars" but as this is meant to be a fun edit maybe we could have fun recording imitations).

We would need a Star Wars theme that comes in at the 50sec to 1min mark and have a definite begin and end (there's work there for you music editors out there).

With all this talk of making fan trailers and the like I thought it might be a fun project to edit the six films as if they were an American television miniseries (about 40mins per episode excluding adverts but including the new titles).

Yep, that means a television title sequence, previously on and next time tails, advert pauses and cards and for added fun Star Wars themed ad breaks (Kenner Toys, the foods etc).

This project could be broken up into small doable chunks that anyone could handle.

All suggestions welcome, is this a modern series like NuGalactica or a seventies show like OldGalactica but with much better special effects?

It would need it’s own ad campaigns too and when (hopefully) the show is complete people can design DVD boxes (or VHS and Betamax boxes if it’s a period piece).

What should the screen format be?

We could even have different continuity announcers for different countries and regions.

It’s a bonkers idea but it might be fun.

Lets see Star Wars the way it should never be seen on a small screen with adverts.
