Don't worry Axia, in space there is no up or down so there is no upside down.

In space no one can hear you scream. Stop Whining!

While we are on the subject of flip shots and the like, the flip shot of the supergunners from ANH is very annoying, this one (or is it the other way around?) :

supergun

other than getting someone else in costume to film a new element is there anything that can be done to make it look different (what about having the gun section pointing up or right at the screen)?

It's bad enough that the gunners are doing exactly the same thing in both movies but I guess they are roughly the same design so it makes sense that they would push the same buttons but those are the same guys (aren't they dead or are they clones?) shielding their eyes in exactly the same way.

Some other things that can be considered:

(1) as previously mentioned, sharpen their claws (or give them visible ones) and their teeth

(2) change the color correction along the lines of APOCALYPSE NOW, with the greens, oranges and yellows (as seen in some of Vaderios' earlier work) being enhanced.

(3) do not add more SCENES with Ewoks per se but more Ewoks into the shots of the final battle to better give the impression of the storm troopers being overwhelmed (such as when they come up over the log when they first attack the storm troopers, add another line of Ewoks behind the first).

(4) would there be any way to depict the Ewoks as capable of burrowing under the ground (again, more references to Vietnam) and maybe pulling some storm troopers underneath?

(5) change their language to something more gutteral and more along the lines of how Chewbacca speaks. Definitely make their war cries more frightening.

I don't think Ewoks with Wookee like voices would work, for one thing they are much smaller creatures so their voices would naturally be much higher, making them sound like annoying puppies.

Also Threepio's attempts to speak their language doesn't really match their current language so getting him to match puppy talking Ewoks would be more trouble and more silly.

We all have heard about adding things for the sake of adding things. I hardly think that ROTJ needs MORE ewoks. However, if it gives them a better purpose or makes them more fierce, someone should give it a try.

The ewok footage also needs to match the hues, so maybe some color correction is needed to make the two match.

Colour correction would have to be done by the editor (as would picture composition, cropping and the like, the two films are in different aspect ratios) ROTJ, in it's various forms needs colour correction anyway so whoever would make such an edit would have to clean up and colour match every insert, scene by scene and match them into a coherent whole.

Ady does this sort of thing every time he mixes an OUT element with an SE element and a new custom element (which is why he has my utter awe and respect).

It's not just the colour either as there are bound to be texture and lighting mismatches too.

The point though is to create more footage to edit from (you can't build a coffee table from a matchstick but you can get a large number of good quality matchsticks from a coffee table), the final sequence might not be longer, it might even be a lot shorter but the more you have the more you can take away without leaving huge holes.

While I think the nebulous almost cryptic nature of the website is part of and adds to the charm of the actual disc, it might stir up more interest if there was a more down to Earth description and maybe a few screenshots and clips so people can get a taste before they go for the full download (which is well worth the effort) .

Rather than explaining what you were trying to do and what the sources are at the front, perhaps you should explain what it is now that it's finished, in plain English (and have all the other details on seperate pages).

A few hints on how it might be found would be a plus too.

But I appreciate it might be a problem when some of the material sails very close and sometimes over the edge of the world of copywrite.

Here's a mash up of scenes from ROTJ and Ewoks 2 (remember these are full shots, parts of shots can also be sampled and inserted into existing shots or mashed in with existing shots to create new ones) :

don't bash me but if ady was ever planning of putting pt music in return of the jedi i like him to insert the anikin padme love theme when luke and leia are talking about their mother then it dissolves into the skywalker theme just my idea

It would make sense to place the Luke and Leia theme into ROTS (when the twins are born) but Across The Stars could only be used a very little bit in that scene as it's mainly about them and not about their parents.

Yeah I recently added the Ewok movies to my collection, just to have them you know. Then I made the mistake of watching them. I remember them being crap but oh man I wanted gouge out my eyes! Hey look I bashed something Star wars!!

It's not easy for me either I mean bashing anything with Sian Phillips in (from I Claudius to Ewoks II). It appears it was George's daughter than inspired that masterpiece after watching Heidi with her George decided to take the worst thing from the first film and make her an orphan with a grumpy hermit replacement Grandfather.

How these can get a DVD release and the holiday special got shot into the bootleg remainder bin is baffling (they are easierly just as bad as each other).

It might however have some little elements that might come in handy if scaled down to fit into frames in ROTJ.

Cindel is a reporter on Coruscant now I believe (the EU rescued her but where's Bea Arthur?).

Changing Bobba's voice back to the original voice throws out the continuity which is the whole point of Ady doing his revist. Maybe I'll myself that Bobba had a cold or a sore throat when tracking down Han!!

Continuity isn't the whole point of Ady's Revisited projects, it's just part of the point (it's more about making Special Editions which are truly special and work as good as they can).

The continuity problem will be sorted out when the PT:R films come out and Jengo, Boba and the clones get a re-dub.

Where possible Ady is changing the PT to match the OT not the other way around and Boba sounded so much better with his original voice.

There might be some little bits of the VHS board game that we can slip in under Vader's mask (I'll have to watch that again too).

There are some very good Vader lines on that one! :)

Oh, and though I haven't seen the first Ewok movie in years, I did watch the second with my brother a while back. We still got a kick out of that little white fella that runs fast. Heh.

Just as a side note did I hear a rumour of a preservation DVD of the game tape?

I can't imagine my VHS tape lasting forever and it the game is actually fun when Vader orders the player with dice to stop and do something else (it reminds me of those Vic and Bob health and safety film sketches http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0AppFR0qUQ ).

Good work there Davnes007.

It might look even better if you had a couple of fighters hit the shield during the spin to turn the fleet around as well as head on. I'm assuming that the shield is tornado shaped (going by the Rebel briefing graphic) so having a big invisible column sticking up out of the planet would be a bit difficult to navigate around once you are right on top of it..

This might sound evil beyond words but there are some shots of Ewoks firing weapons in (I can't believe I'm typing this) the Ewok films (specifically the second one) that might be recycled and reworked as elements for new shots in a ROTJ redux.

I can't post examples because I don't have the DVD's (even I wouldn't buy those things especially after seeing Caravan Of Garbage in the cinema without a disguise to hide behind).

If we can make some good come from the agony of watching them would be be doing good or just adding more grit to the already contaminated intimate lubricant?

That sir, is a DAMN fine idea. I'll watch my copies tonight.

We believe you, even if we now have the opinion that you must seriously dislike your kids ;-)

Reading the Starkiller thread and liking Commander Courage's idea of sampling Threepio from the Radio drama (which I do have), when and where it makes sense.

There might be some little bits of the VHS board game that we can slip in under Vader's mask (I'll have to watch that again too).

For those of us lucky enough to have seen none's Thee Backslacpkping With Media project (and if you haven't do try to http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Thee-Backslacpkping-With-Media-next-transport-is-under-consideration-IDEAS-WANTED/topic/7758/) it would be fun to have that sort of media noise in the commercial break (from the three and a bit decades of the saga).

A doctor told me that a sure fire way to avoid a hangover is to drink one glass of water for every two of booze (it's a good way to keep the glass clean too, I'm such a slob!).

I lost one of my few good teeth to breakfast cereal too (I never got a full set of adult teeth for some bizarre genetic reason) so losing a tooth to healthy eating was a particular bind.

The two subjects dovetail perfectly because it was a bank holiday weekend and the only way I could numb the agony was by holding brandy in my mouth...oh the memories.

Preserving the...cringe...Star Wars Holiday Special (Released)

I'm not sure exactly when McQuarrie painted the original piece, but I believe it was well before production began on the Holiday Special, and served as an inspiration for the show. I'm guessing it was earlier in 1978, when ideas were being thrown around for the Special.

Yeah.... It's just that, given all the neat pre-production images he did, many wildly different from what actually made it into the film, there's the dream that it was a conception of the plan for Jedi: a planet of Wookiees.

Not unlike my first thoughts when I saw the partially built Death Star II. Wasn't a clear picture, and I didn't know a new one was being built, so my mind leapt to an interesting conclusion: it was the shell of the original station, the part opposite the direction of the blast that destroyed it. The Imperials had found it, were refurbishing it....

Neither dream true, of course. But pleasant alternate realities.

I think a lot of us thought that too but we did see the thing pretty much reduced to glitter in the first film which ruled that possibility out.

Unless you do this :

See this is the sort of thing I'm thinking of Davnes007 has just posted a bit of footage up on Youtube and we can now comment on it.

If this was done with complete edited scenes we could all comment on which scene fits best next to which other scene and a fan editor like Ady could then construct that into a new workprint.

Going on that particular clip it obvious that the motion of the trap is a nightmare to edit around.

I'd recommend isolating the close up shots where the traps motion is less obvious and keep the trap moving smoothly in the long shots but where possible shift the dialogue (when we don't see the actors lips moving) to run in the background of the more static inserts (like R2's saw).

But it's easy for me to type this podoo, it's not so easy to actually do it.

Your reordering and alteration of those scenes sounds intriguing.

Bingowings, do keep this in mind: I believe you know just as well as I do that if ROTJ is to be edited in a way that brings it up to the caliber of the previous two Star Wars films, your "radical redux" philosophy will need to be applied.

My thinking behind that configuration is that Yoda has just confirmed to Luke that Vader is his father, so enter Vader, later Ben says his feelings could be used by another, so enter the other.

But I can see how having Boussh turn up after Yoda's mention of the other would create a bit of foreshadowing before Ben confirms it but I'm finding it hard to square without the droids being in place.

I'm also thinking that Yoda shouldn't get a chance to mention that the other is a Skywalker before dying just to keep the surprise for a bit later so now he dies saying "There is..another" rather than "There is...another Skywalker".

As always how that turns out will come out in the wash.

Playing with the Boba Fett leaves to sell the Death Star location idea and the other other Death Star, the Executor attacking the Death Star 3 instead of bumping into the Death Star 2 are all radical ideas which are worth a try.

But it's important to get the basic story worked out in the right order before adding the big stuff.

I'm not Ady so this will really just be adding to the great leap that the Fan-O-Matic started (so still a rough sketch rather than a glorious fan edit) but it could serve as a guide to what is possible for more skilled film makers and editors out there.

I can see Chainsaw's point of view too so as I said before playing around with the order is the only way to be sure.

It might make sense to put each altered scene up a seperate mini film so everyone can fiddle about with which order they play it on Youtube or something like that and perhaps get a consensus opinion.

It was mentioned before about how the Ewoks could be made to be more menacing, so I made a quick little video of the "Dead Animal On A Stick" scene, with a StormTrooper helmet inserted. I know it's crude, but I only did it to see how it would look.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwOjAgaxE10

Don't hold back...be critical, and abusive...I can take it..... ;)

I know it's rough and ready but putting the roughness to one side the idea seems to work (though perhaps the music should be changed to something a bit more sinister (it is a bit jolly for a moment of potential peril...it works a lot better with the sound turned down).

The best way around the roughness would be film the helmet (or head) on a stick as a new element rather than trying to just plop the helmet on what's already there.

I'd cut Han trying to reach for Luke's lightsabre but keep the line in only in the background while R2 cuts the ropes (but cut Threepio's Capt Obvious line about the drop...we are about to find that out for ourselves).

Perhaps the trap could have some sort of bells on it to alert the Ewoks to it being sprung.

I copied this from the ESB:R thread where the mispositioned post aided by old age and just coming back from the shop lead to my brain melting into a pool of goo.

Could you remove the post from the ESB: R thread to avoid other dipsticks like me from falling into the same trap?

I like the idea of starting on Tatooine and just deleting the opening Death Star scene;

That was one of the few decent parts in this otherwise incipid mess of a film. It's the last time Vader still had that distinguishable vibe that made him so popular as a villain in ANH and ESB.

Once I have the new computer up and running I will be attempting variations on the Fan-O-Matic.

My instincts tell me that Dagobah (ending with Yoda's death) followed by Vader arriving at the Death Star 2 on the Executor with a redubbed Moff Jejerrod (he seems a bit too camp for a commandant) followed by Luke in Ben's Hut meeting Ben's ghost, followed by the Emperor arriving, followed by Droids on their way to Jabba is more the way to go.

But I won't be sure until I've tried out other combinations.
