You dont have to show that the ship is going to land in the dagobah.

Show it ender to the atmosphere like Bingo's mockups and then have a matte with maybe some elements. Besides Landing isnt nessesary becasause the action has to be quick with fast pacing.

In fact the scene can be similar to ROTJ when the rebels have jus landed to endor and we see the shuttle in the distance.

Also raining is a good mood (ESB like) so we can have some slight rain sound out of the windows and when padme dies some thunder sounded.

I added some lightning and rain to the landing shots if you scroll back a bit (adds a bit of atmosphere to an otherwise dull mockup).

Here are a couple of mockups showing Bail Organa's ship landing on Dagobah.

This would serve two purposes, now Yoda doesn't have to hide his escape pod in the swamp (he just walks down the ramp) and it explains why Luke finds the place so familiar (he was born there and not on some fancy asteroid base in the middle of nowhere):

Tantive Arrives

Tantive lands

Really cool! But if you can (if you or someone manages to make the scene) please do it similar to the Falcon approach to Yavin 4 (as in: we see it head to Dagobah, it flies over the shroud of fog and the following shot is it already landed above. Please, no more PT landing shots... <:( )

For you (and not as nice sadly, looks a bit like Lynch's Harkonnen ships going in for the kill) here's the ship half way for that full Millenium Falcon style sequence (yeah it's a landing but it takes out the asteroid sequence altogether and seeing as it's an element from the Alderaan landing and replaces the landing from the deleted scene it's one landing scene replacing three) :

Tantive Clouds 1

Tantive Clouds 2

Maybe Angel (or anyone) could enhance the landed shot with some Nostromo style floods?

wow, theyre well good bingowings! i was thinking of this the other day.

i guess the shot from the deleted scene of yoda exiting the pod could be modified to show yoda exiting an off ramp perhaps, followed by a shot of the ship leaving.

where did you get the background from?

The backgrounds are all from the deleted scene of Yoda landing (I just replaced the pod with the ship).

THE OT SOUNDTRACKS SALVAGE - SWESBROTJ -"remastered"(so far)+ LP's (Released)
Time

Please forgive my ignorance Jedi soundtrack fans (I only have ever had the one disc vinyl version that came out with the film) but has the piece that Max Reebo plays on the barge (and after Boussh) ever been released?

And if so what is it called?

(it sort of goes dum dee dee dee dee dee dee dum dum dee dee dee dum.... can you hear it yet?)

Perhaps you could restore gravitas to the Jabba reveal by remixing the Boussh and droid arrivals.

If Boussh is a bounty hunter delivering Chewie why does he come in guns blazing anyway?

You could still have the grenade method of price negotiation but just have him turn up to deliver his prey and things turn nasty when he doesn't get the agreed price.

The scuffles might be recycled as attempts to escape the new guy with the bomb once things get hairy rather than trying to stop him from getting into the room in the first place.

When the droids turn up it could be in the middle of Jabba's strip show and having Oola drop then would give the droids more of a reason to be fearful.

But that would mean that the droids must still turn up before Leia's failed attempt to revive Han which wouldn't fit in with the idea of Luke rescuing a failed rescue attempt (unless a clever lad or lady out there can work out a way of reconciling the two concepts).

no, i don't like the idea of adding a siren. the scene doesn't need it. he gave the announcement, which would have been heard city wide, so the need for a siren to signal the evacuation seems pointless.

I'm just worried about the shift workers who are having a kip while Lando delivers his announcement.

Bespin Worker 1: "Did I just hear the Baron warning us about the Imperials taking over the city?"

Bespin Worker 2: "Go back to sleep darling, it was just another one of those funky cheese nightmares"

Bespin Worker 1: "Did you put the cat out?"

Bespin Worker 2: "No! it's still burning in the oven

Bespin Worker 1: "I don't know I've got a bad feeling about this"

In every form of the Fan-O-Matic style reworking Luke is on Dagobah at the beginning of the story (his first scene is the death of Yoda) what order the scenes play out in is a matter of experimentation.

It appears I might be getting my (long mythical) new computer this week so ASAP I will try different combinations.

My instincts point to the Vader scene coming after Yoda confirms who he is as it serves as a reminder of the end of ESB but it may work out differently in the wash.

The most important aspect of the story is the Emperor/Vader thing but it doesn't hurt to remind the viewers, save Han and then go back to it.

Aunt Beru, the Sand people etc have nothing to do with the Death Star but they fill in a story where the Death Star has already been flagged up in the beginning.

The Wampa, Han's tiffs with Leia etc have nothing to do with Vader tracking down Luke but they don't get in the way of a story where that was flagged up in the beginning.

Also I suggested a few ways where the Jabba scenes could be tied into the main story (Vader having the planet watched to see if anyone attempts to save Solo, Fett selling the plans to the Rebels, Fett tipping Vader off that the Rebels are in the Palace etc).

The key advantage with starting Luke's end of the story on Dagobah is he is a fully trained Jedi (all be it still a crash course of about a year) by the time he faces the Emperor and tries to save his friends.

In the current set up he has had about a days worth of training from Ben and a few days from Yoda (presumably everything else was done via Ouija board) and Yoda just hangs on and dies a few miniutes into Luke's return visit.

Something which someone may have said before or not, either way I think it's a good but nearly impossible idea. The stormtroopers on Endor, why are they in white clad armor? Shouldnt they have some camoflague on? I mean, the rebels have it, so should the empire. Also in ROTS they republic has camo, wouldn't they have brought to the empire? That was one of the only things I liked about ROTS, the camo armor, it accually made sense. They're not put into white clad armor suits in a jungle, they have camouflague. Now I know this is basically impossible to do, but it would be pretty cool to see in a mock-up or something. lol.

Angel did mockups of Stormies with clone style markings he might enjoy the challenge (hint, hint) ;-)

In that set up when Luke is saying "I can't do it alone" he is expressing doubts to Artoo over his ability to save everyone now that Leia has blown the plan rushing to save Han so Ben turns up to give him a bit of a pep talk but also to bring the story of his father's fall full circle.

The context changes the meaning of the line.

it has some clips in, but really bad quality. interesting material though!

For people mocking the mock ups on these threads just look at what Lucasfilm were using.

It's shows just how much commitment and skill is around here.

Now if only we could get hold of the original elements....

Actually this would have worked as a fine alternative explanation for the droid powerdown in TPM with Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon getting on the droid command ship (instead of Anakin accidentally blowing it up) and having them fight Maul on the ship instead of in the Naboo power station.

Further to my comment earlier I've amended the haunted hut scenerio a bit.

When Luke lands Threepio (who has been left with the Falcon) says something along the lines of "Master Luke, I tried to stop them...."

To which he says something like "Oh no...Leia!". (I'm sure something along those lines can be sampled from other sources).

The Hut scene plays out in the evening as he has been planning his rescue plan for the rescue plan that's already gone wrong and Ben turns up to deliver a bit of information which explains Leia's lack of patience....

This looks more promising!

But what do you mean: "Ben turns up to deliver a bit of information which explains Leia's lack of patience...." What dialouge?

He explains that Leia is his sister and Vader's daughter.

Anakin put his fear of losing Padme before his head and fell, Luke put his fear of losing his friends at Cloud City and almost falls, Leia is putting her fear of losing Han before everything and get's captured.

The family tree has more than strength in the Force running through it (something that is played up again when Vader uses it as a trigger to almost turn Luke).

What state would that be? Unreleased? It is terrible.

Indeed! Once in a while Hyperspace (the online commercial organ of Lucasfilm) puts out a still image (for which members have to pay a subscription) we have a few grainy frames of the sandstorm scene, a few images of the Jejerrod choke (usually unearthed and presented by fans).

For that scene to be used in ESB:SE suggests that there is more in the vaults that we aren't allowed to see for some reason.

Even the deleted scenes from ANH have been reburied now that Behind The Magic is out of print (why weren't they on the DVD sets?) it's a joke really.

Some of these edit projects and indeed this site were set up to try and retrieve, reconstruct and preserve materials we should be able to buy on an official release but can't.

I know this might be going back in the thread a bit but always remember Ady that if you're having any problems with the asteroid chase scene just film a couple of big ass spuds....that's what ILM did......lol

I think we can let ILM off the hook for that creative choice :

It's a stepping stone to bigger & better things. :)

wat would it look like if u used the shuttle from ROTS since that's wat the emperor flew in.

But...this is footage of the Rebels landing on Endor...not the Emperor. o_O

Extra Fun: Vader's arrival at the Deathstar, alternate cut. (not CGI)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6PeAlUmgYM

It looks good I suggested some time back that the ESB SE footage be used to reconstruct this scene (if someone can find or emulate the right footage of Mr Hamill):

94 EXT. BUNKER

Han sneaks up behind the remaining Imperial scout, taps him on the shoulder and lets the scout chase him behind the bunker into the arms of the waiting Rebel strike team. Han returns to the front, and taps out a pattern on the bunker door's control panel. Everyone stands out of sight, police-style, as the door opens. Han and Leia peek inside. No sign of life. The group enters the bunker silently, leaving one lookout, disguised in the armor of a stripped Imperial Scout, behind.

95 INT. DEATH STAR MAIN DOCKING BAY

Vader's shuttle settles onto the docking bay of the Death Star. Luke and the Dark Lord emerge from the landing ramp with a small escort of stormtroopers, and walk rapidly across the cavern.

Regarding this:

*PIC*

I actually like the GOUT one better because the buildings in the background actually look like they're in the background and make Cloud City look like a big city... or maybe it's just the difference i nlighting and more blue in the shadows. Is there any way to mix the refined backgrounds with the old ones to increase sense of perspective and size of Cloud City?

I said before that a daylight has slight yellow highlights and blue-cyan shadows. GOUT captures that perfectly and gives a weight to the scene.

Is just me or the CGI elements are not blending so well with the already mattes in the previous flyby shot?

-Angel

Could you give us a demonstration by adjusting the new version to these principles?

I'm always keen to learn new techniques and it may be useful for other people who read this thread.

Sevb32 said:

I don't see what you are saying at all. Those are the same background buildings from the original matte painting. The original has too much at the building left above Leia's window to have the skylights.

He's talking about the colour and texture balancing of the shot not the shape of Leia's building.

The original matte seemed more convincing because of the general merky quality of the whole film (as it was), now that it's cleaned up and colour corrected the matte's broad strokes are a bit more obvious which is sort of what I was trying to say with my earlier post, though I understand and accept the answer Ady gave me on this point.

Further to my comment earlier I've amended the haunted hut scenerio a bit.

To which he says something like "Oh no...Leia!". (I'm sure something along those lines can be sampled from other sources).

The Hut scene plays out in the evening as he has been planning his rescue plan for the rescue plan that's already gone wrong (he doubts if he can rescue them all alone now Leia has messed up the plan) and Ben turns up to deliver a bit of information which explains Leia's lack of patience....

Haunted house 2

This version would have to play now after Leia has been captured and Threepio wouldn't be able to warn Luke about the trapdoor because he hasn't seen it yet.

The basic idea may be a workable way of restoring certain elements of this lost scene :

Do we really need a siren? He already gave the evacuation order. People are fleeing. We get it already.

Put Ric Olie in the shot then for cryin' out loud.

"Look, it's an evacuation and the people are leaving!"

LOL... I vote ady put Ric Olie into every scene of ESB:R from this point onward.

-- "That's Darth Vader, Luke's father... and look, he just lopped off his right hand."

I love Ric Olie! I wish we could get that actor in to make an alternate audio track, like sometimes they have one for the blind. I can't believe that he also plays the drugged-out stage manager in Wayne's World 2 though...

His Wayne's World character was meant to be Danny from Withnail And I (can you imagine Danny surviving through the seventies, let alone the eighties? If he did he would have come full circle by the nineties so that no drug on Earth could effect him).
